Notice.— It is requested that all communications lor the ipurpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tlae gfgsiatore of the person requiring or sending the Barne, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably n6Sssary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of tho Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. AB no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise tbe insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded en War Office Eorms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUIDIIG. PATRICK McGOWAN, charged with assaulting and inflicting grievous bodily harm at Middlesborough, as adver- tised in the Police Gazette of the 28th June last, is not to be apprehended.— Bow- street, August 11. The Body of a newly- born female Child was Jfound on the line of the Cornwall Railway, in the borough of Plymouth, on the 10th uit., and a verdict of ' Wilful murder' returned at the coroner's inquest against some person or persons unknown. Her Majesty's Government offer a reward of £ 50 to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery aud conviction of the murderer or murderers ; and Mr. Secretary Cross will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, • who will give such evidence as shall lead to the like result. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Wreford, Central Police Station, Plymouth, Devonshire.— Bow- street, August 4. Description of two men charged with murder at Southall, on the 29th uit. : one 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches higb, fair complexion and hair, grey eyes ; dressed in dark jacket, white slop ut. der, cricketing cap, aud Balmoral boots with toe caps ( new); tbe other 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion and hair ; dressed in dark jacket, cord trousers, dark felt hat ; both natives of Yeading, labourers, they are likely to tramp the couutry for reaping work, and were last seen at Iver, Bucks, on the morning of the 31st uit. — Metropolitan Police, X Division, August 4. PORGJSEY. Description of a man of gentlemanly appearance, dressed as a clergyman, who called at. the shop of Mr. Roberts, music- seller, High- street, Windsor, on the 29th ultimo, and obtained £ 23 by meaus of a forged Cheque for £ 50, on Gurney & Co., Halesworth Bank. He stated that he was a friend of, and staying at Mr. Pearl's, High- street, and represented himself to be the Rev. H. F. Gill, Vicar of Warfield. He purchased a pianoforte and a concertina, and received £- 23 as change. He is about 38 or 40 years of age, dark complexion, rouud face, very short nose, aud about 5 feet 9 inches high. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Cooper, Police Station, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, Auqust 11. Obtained on the 8th ultimo, by means of uttering a forged Cheque, £ 39. By THOMAS PAYNE, of Burbidge- road, Hinckley, Leicester, 26 years of age, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers aud beard shaved off; dressed in light plaid suit ; he is paralysed on one side. Stolen from the person in Brighton, from the 5th to the 9th instant: A pair of Field Glasses, French make, and have some writing in French on them. A gold plain duplex hunting Watch. A large open- face gold lever Watch, white dial, maker Gardener, Mauchester, ou inside plate, and a short piece of gold curb Chain, with four small gold Chubb lock Keys attached. A silver lever Watch, double cases, no glass, seconds hand raissing, maker Edward Hawkswortb, Grand Parade, Cork, Ireland. Information to he given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bm- street, August 11. Stolen from the person of Samuel Garton, on the 5th instant, in the ' White Horse Inn,' at Great Driffield : a wash leather Bag, containing £ 7 15s. in Gold and Silver. By three men, one who is in custody. In custody : THOS. FOSTER, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale com- plexion, grey eyes, brown hair, slender figure ; dressed in dark coat, grey trousers, light boots, and felt hat. At large : one 22 years of age, slender figure; dressed iu white smock, under dark coat, and felt hat; and the other 23 years of age, slender figure, and dark clothes. Stolen from the person of Mr. Wyatt Harlow, of Burslem, on the railway platform at Stoke, about 8- 30 p. m. on the 5th instant : a gold lever Watch, No. 40788, engine- turned, ' E. R. to J. R.' engraved, inside, maker ' H. Pidduck, Hanley.' Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Stoke- ou- Trent.— Bow- street, August 9. Stolen from the person, on the 2nd instant: a lady's small skeleton lever Watch, gold dial, No. 22790, had attached a gold Albert Chain, link and bar pattern. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Preston, Lancashire. — Bow- street, August 9. Stolen from the person in Brighton, between the 30th ultimo and the 3rd instant; A blue enamelled Locket, set with small brilliants and a large pearl in centre. £ 2 reward. A silver Geneva lever Watch, open face, with initials ' F. P.' on outside of case, maker Steward, Strand. A gold open- faced lever Watch, flowered gold face, black hands ard seconds hand, and has a yery slight bulge in outer case. A Russia leather Purse, with the initials ' W. J. B.' on it, containing £ 125 in Bank of England Notes, consisting of eleven £ 10 Notes and the remainder in £ 5 Notes ; ten of the £ 10 notes are numbered I | 24 85231 to 85240, and dated 22nd March, 1875 : stolen in the race stand. And a gold open- faee Watch, white face, gold hands and seconds hand, plain engine- turned back, maker Skelton, St. Martin's- lane : stolen in the race stand. Stolen from the person at Brighton, on the 4th instant: A gold English lever Watch, with a chased cross on back of outer case. A silver lever Watch, double case, gold hands, black seconds hand, maker Dann, Ramsey. A silver verge Watch, double case, ' T. R.' on outside and inside of back case, and a small neat pattern gold Albert Chain, with a new spade Guinea attached, each link of the chain stamped ' 18 carat.' A gold lever Watch, white face, gold hands and seconds hand, double case, shield on front case, and engine- turned on the other. £ 2 reward. A gold keyless stop Watch, open face, black hands, sunken seconds band, ' E. & E. Emanuel, Portsmouth,' on the face. A small gold Geneva Watch. A silver Geneva Watch, has been gold plated, gold face, No. 36407, marked on dome ' Exhibition Prize Medal.' A large gold oval Locket, with monogram ' TCM' on out- side, aud a lady's likeness inside. Information to be given to Superintendent Pratt, County- Police Station, Chichester, Sussex.— Bm- street, August 4. About 8 p. m. on the 29th ultimo, at Abbots Langley, Herts, John Rolfe was in a field digging potatoes, when he was attacked by a man and woman, who stole his Shoes from off his feet and left him insensible on the ground ( they are strong lace- up shoes, nearly new, tipped toe and heel) : the man is named JOSEPH SMITH, 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair, fresh complexion, and single ; dressed in a black jacket, black corduroy trousers with straps round the legs ; he is a tinker; the woman, who is supposed to he his sister, was dressed in an old light stuff dress, black jacket, and black straw hat; she carried a bundle tied iu an old blanket. Information to be given to Inspector Chapman, Police Station, Watford, Herts, who holds a warrant for the apprehension of the man Smith.— Bow- street, August 4. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 9 a. m. and 9 p. m. on the 5th instant, three dwelling- houses at Alrewas, near Lichfield, Staffordshire, were broken and entered, and stolen therein : £ 10 in Gold and Silver ; an old- fashioned German silver Watch, with steel Chain and three Watch Keys attached; five silver Tea Spoons, marked'A. S.;' ten Spoons, three Tea, four Table, one Mustard, one Salt, one Sugar, and a pair of Sugar Tongs, all metal; a gilt Bracelet, with a white stone in centre ; a dark Coat and Yest, boy's size ; a dark blue cashmere Shawl; a pair of kid Gloves ; a red Pocket- handkerchief, with white spots, border mended with white cotton. Supposed by a man, from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender build, thin face, light complexion, and small light whiskers ; dressed in dark coat and vest, cord trousers, and black billy- cock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Staffordshire Constabulary, Burton- on- Trent.— Bow- street, August 11. During the night of the 5th inst. the dwelling- house of the Rev. Doctor Bennett at Crudwell was broken into, and about £ 30, chiefly in gold, a £ 5 bank note ( supposed Bank of Engla:.. d), issued by Huddleston, Green & Co., Bury St. Ed- munds ; and two bottles of Tarragona Wine stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Superintendent Beauchamp, Malmesbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, August 11. Between 6 p. m. on the 29th ultimo and 10 a. m. on the 4th instant, the dwelling- house of Joseph Newsum, of Rotber- ham, timber merchant, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a £ 20 Note, a £ 10 Note, three £ 5 Notes, and two Sovereigns ; a gentleman's diamond Ring, diamond, fixed in claws ; a bright gold Brooch, set with three aqua- marine stones ; a lady's Hoop, set with pearls, one pearl very dark ; a strong silver Brooch, set with malachite; a gentleman's ha. ir Albert, with small Locket attached, with tbe likeness of a Female in it, and on the back the words ' In Memoriam'; and a white seal Ring, with the letters ' E. M. C. Y.' in red. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, West Riding Constabulary, Court House, Rotherham, Yorkshire. — Bow- street, August 9. Stolen from the person at Barnsley, on the 29th ultimo a silver lever Watch, No. 38998, jewelled in eight holes, com- pensation balance, white dial with blacit numerals, and a large oval- linked gold Albert attached ; and four Sovereigns in Gold and about 9s. in Silver, lnfoimation to be given to Superintendent Syltes, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, August 4. Stolen from the person at Goodwood Races : A gold Watch, _ 1617, monogram ' J. W. O. S.' on back, Between 6 p. m. on the 3rd, and 6 a. m. on the 4th inst., a weaving shed at Westhoughton, near Bolton- le- Moors, Lancashire, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : about 80 yards of blue Silk ; about 70 yards of crimson ditto; and 4 pieces of different shades of brown Silk, all suitable for dress pieces. Information to be given to Superintendent • Holland, County Police Office, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- st., August 6. Between 12.30 a. m. and 7 a. m. on the 3rd inst. the dwelling- house of Mr. Thos. J. Perry, architect of St. Peter's Road, Handsworth, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : one red aud black woollen Table Cover, vine leaves and large size; one green coloured Table Cover ( woollen, oval) ; one electro- plated Reel Stand, complete ( silver scissors, _ . & c. inside) ; 2 electro- plated Candlesticks ; one pearl covered maker Tifner and Co., New York, and horses head on front. Between 1 and 6 p. m. on the 29th uit., several cottages the parish of Salford, Warwickshire, were entered by gold double end Chain with cross bar ; and an 18- carat gold means of picklock keys, aud stolen therein : about £ 60 in snake Bing of three twists, with two small diamonds for the Gold and Silver ; a silver verge Watch, No. 10717, maker eyes. J. Eborall, Warwick ; a silver Geneva Watch, No. supposed And a pair of Opera Glasses, ivory handles, mounted with to be 9256, maker T. Supposed by a man about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, florid complexion, light hair, sandy moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in a loDg dark coat, dark mixture trousers, high- crowned hat, and carried an umbrella ; he can be identified. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunbar, Alcester, Warwickshire.— Bm- street, August 4. EOSSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the night of the 5th instant, from a stable in the East Park- road, Brighton : two French Mares, one very dark iron grey, 5 years old, about 16 hands high, long tail, rather full hocks, head rather lighter than the body, and has a small crack in front of near fore hoof; the other is light iron grey, 6 years old, about 15 hands 3 inches high, a very small wart on the near hind thigh, the hair slightly rubbed off at the place, long mane and foretop, dark tail, and the near f^ re knee is very slightly chipped. Als6. stolen on the same night, from a stable near the Brighton' race- course : a black Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, white hind fetlocks, long tail, off fore knee cut, but the hair has grown over it again, and very flat fore feet ; a light spring Cart, in a very dirty state, has not been painted for a very long time, ' Sarah Moppett' painted underneath the tailboard" and ' William Moppett' in large letters on the tailboard, and has a seat with leather straps at each end ; a'so a set of light Harness, in pretty good condition, except the back baud, which is cracked. Any person giving such information as shall lead to the appreheusioii aud conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the above property, shall receive a reward of £ 15 for each of the grey mares, and £ 10 for the black mare and cart. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton, Sussex.— Hem- street, August 11. Stolen on the 3rd instant from a field near Wood Green Common : a dark brown Gelding, 16 hands high. By a man dressed in a light coat and billycock hat, who was seen riding the horse in tbe direction of May's- road.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, August 9. Description of JAMES NIGHTINGALE, charged with stealing a Horse ( recovered) from a field at Oulton, in the township of Oulton- with- Woodlesford, during the night of 26th ultimo : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, rather plump face, ginger whiskers all round tbe face but not thick, aud walks erectly ; dressed in a dark coat and vest, light cord trousers, black hairy cap with peak of similar material, watertight boots, very short fronts, aud laced within one inch of the toes ; a labourer or horse keeper, and resided last at Brick- row, near the New- inn, Bradford. Information to be given to Superintendent Hall, Wakefield, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 9. Further information respecting . JOHN JARRAT, charged with stealing forty- six Sheep from William Overton, of Higgius Wood ( advertised in the Police Gazette of llth October, 1869) : £ 10 reward will be paid for his apprehension and conviction. He is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 iuches high, dark hair, and is a native of Corwen, North Wales, but has not been there for several years ; he has been a soldiers, and is generally employed as a drover and with horse dealers in Wales he is well known to cattle dealers in Hereford aud Worcester. Information to be given co Super- intendent Richardson, Wpllington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport. Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, August 9. Found at Leigh, on the 28th ultimo, and supposed to have been stolen : a light bay Mare, aged, 15 hands high, • white face, two hind legs white, no shoes on behind, aud lame. Information to be given to Superintendent Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking.— Bow- street, August 6. with the property.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, Auqust 11. Charged with stealing on the 25th ultimo : a silver lever Watch, No. .20098 ; a metal Chain ; two Medals; and a cloth Coat, the property of William Brown, at Tow Law : a man, 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or> 9 inches high, dark com- plexion, very dirty slovenly appearance, dark hair, small moustache, and whiskers round the chin, and proportionate figure ; he is a tramp, and sleeps about cinder ovens, brick works, & c. ; he is supposed to be wearing the stolen coat, and striped trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Thubron, Durham County Constabulary, Stanhope, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, August 11. Absconded on the 26th ultimo, from Southampton- row, embezzling £ 200 : a man, 45 years of age, 6 feet high, fair complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and of respectable appearance; he is supposed to have gone to Great Malvern.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, Auqust 11. Absconded on the llflfi May last, from NewtowD, Mont- gomeryshire, charged with stealing six Fowls ( recovered), the property of John Jones, of Saint Harmon, Radnorshire : LEWIS MORRIS, 34 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair, small whiskers, of dirty appearance, and has been a farmer near Rhayader, Radnorshire ; dressed in an old light brown jacket, with slop underneath, cord trousers, jim- crow hat, and lace- up boots. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, or to Sergeant Hudson, Newtown, Montgomeryshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, Auqust 11. The Scotchman, charged with embezzlement at Middles- borough, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4tli instant, is not to be apprehended.— Bow- street, August 11. Description of a man charged with stealing a quantity of Carpenter's Tool ( recovered), from Lower Stone, in the parish of Berkeley, during the night of the 3rd instant, about 55 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, ligbt whiskers round face, and cleaned shaved ; dressed iu brown jacket, dark trousers, and bowler hat. He says he is a carpenter, a native of the Isle of Man, and was making for Bristol. He wrote out several receipts at places where he called for mixing up paints. Information to be given to Superintendent Hewson, Dursley, or to Sergeant Taylor, Police Station, Berkeley, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, August 9. Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from a cottage in Ipswich : a new double- breasted black cloth Kensington Coat, black lining, stitched edges, sleeves lined with light twill ; a black cloth Vest; and a pair of black cloth Trousers, new. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, ruddy complexion, sandy hair, long behind, and bald on top of head, is a little lame of right foot, and the shoe is cut; dressed in a cloth jacket, cord trousers, old- fashioned waistcoat, with stripes, plaid scarf, and soft billycock hat, all much worn ; he carries with him a small black covered bible, and is frequently seen reading it; he generally seeks private lodgings. Also stolen in Ipswich: a quantity of Mathematical Instruments, consisting o£ a proportionate Compasser; Dividers ditto ; two Springs ; two Pens ; a lengthening Bar; a small Compasser, with pen and small ditto, with pencil on top. Also stolen from 106, Norwich- road, at an auction sale : a brown silk Umbrella, plain handle, with a small piece of ivory let iu. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk.- Bow- street, August 9. Desciiption of WILLIAM BIRD, alias BIRDIE, who is charged ou a warraut with stealing a double- cased silver Watch, glass broken, plated albert chain with three stones attached, at Sittingbourne, on the 28th ultimo : 20 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, thin face, sharp features, tattooed on oue arm a mail on a cross, and the other arm is. diseased; dressed in a dark mixture cloth cap with peak, hip jacket, dark cloth trousers, and grey waist- coat ; he plays o_ i a tin whistle, aud sings at public- houses ; was iu company with auother man who sings. Information to be given to superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sitting- bourne, Kent.— Bow- street, August 9.
