B.' on it, containing £ 125 in Bank of England Ndtes, consisting of eleven £ 10 Notes and the remainder in £ 5 Notes; ten of the £ 10 notes aie numbered I | 24 85231 to 85240, and dated 22nd March, 1875 : stolen in the race stand. Description of JAMES NIGHTINGALE, charged with stealing a Horse ( recovered) from a field at Oulton, in the township of Oulton- with- Woodlesford, during the night of 26th ultimo : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, rather plump face, ginger whiskers all round the face but not thick, and walks erectly ; dressed in a dark coat and vest, light cord trousers, black hairy cap with peak of similar material, watertight boots, very short fronts, and laced within one inch of the toes ; a labourer or horse keeper, and resided last at Brick- row, near the New- inn, Bradford. Information to be given to Superintendent Hall, Wakefield, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for hia apprehensiin.— Bow- street, August 9. Further information respecting JOHN JARRAT, charged with stealing forty- six Sheep from William Overton, of Higgins Wood ( advertised in ths Police Gazette of 11th October, 1869) : £ 10 reward will be paid for his apprehension and conviction. He is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, and is a native of Corwen, North Wales, but has not been there for several years ; he has been a soldiers, and is generally employed as a drover and with horse dealers in Wales ; he is well known to cattle dealers in Hereford and Worcester. Information to be given to Super- intendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, August 9. Found at Leigh, on the 28th ultimo, and supposed to have been stolen : a light bay Mare, aged, 15 hands high, white face two hind legs white, no shoes on behind, and ( honeycomb pattern), black felt billycock hat, and elastic- side lame Information to be given to Superintendent Lambert, boots. Absconded, on the 31st ult., from Purfleet Wharf, Chalk th". 14th ultimo, supposed to have been stolen from Walsall, Farm Road, stealing £ 70, the monies of his employer : a man, has been found, and restored to the owner. Stolen from a field iu the borough of Sheffield, during the night of the 27th ultimo : a dark chestnut Pony, 6 years old, 13i hands high, white far hind leg, white spot on forehead, and a small white spot on the back. Stolen from a field at Pontrilas, in the parish of Ewyas Harold, Herefordshire, between 8 p. m. on the 27 th, and 6 a. m. on the 28th ultimo : five half- bred Southdown Lambs, in wool, grey faced, long tails, freshly marked on necks with blue, and pitch marked with ' M.' on right side, the property of Mr. Thomas Morgan. Information to be given to Super- intendent. Cope, Hereford, or to P. S. Phillips, Abbey Dore, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, August 4. Obtained, on the 30th ult,, by fraud, from Havelock street, Islington : a dark brown gelding Pony, 13 hands high : a set of brass- mounted Harness, and a dark green Gig : by two men, one 32 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches hig! s, dark com- plexion, hair, and whiskers ; dressed iu dark cloth jacket, and cap, and cord trousers, and had the appearance of a " horse coper"; the other, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in grey suit, and black felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, August 4. - Metropolitan Police, It Division, LARCENY AND E1EBEZZX. EMEKT. Description of a man charged with stealing a quantity of Carpenter's Tool ( recovered), from Lower Stone, in the parish of Berkeley, during the night of the 3rd instant, about 55 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light whiskers round face, and cleaned shaved ; dressed in brown jacket, dark trousers, and bowler hat. He says he is a carpenter, a native of the Isle of Man, and was making for Bristol. lie wrote out several receipts at places where he called for mixing up paints. Information to be given to Superintendent Hewson, Dursley, or to Sergeant Taylor, Police Station, Berkeley, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, August 9. Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from a cottage in Ipswich : a new double- breasted black cloth Kensington Coat, black lining, stitched edges, sleeves lined with light twill ; a black cloth Vest; and a pair of black cloth Trousers, new. By a man, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, ruddy complexion, sandy bair, long behind, and bald on top of head, is a little lame of right foot, and the shoe is cut; dressed in a cloth jacket, cord trousers, old- fashioned waistcoat, with stripes, plaid scarf, and soft billycock hat, all much worn ; he carries with him a small black covered bible, and is frequently seen reading it; he generally seeks private lodgings. Also stolen in Ipswich : a quantity of Mathematical Instruments, consisting of a proportionate Compasser; Dividers ditto ; two Springs ; two Pens ; a lengthening Bar; a small Compasser, with pen and small ditto, with pencil on top. Also stolen from 106, Norwich- road, at an auction sale : a brown silk Umbrella, plain handle, with a small piece of ivory let in. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk.— Bow- street, August 9. Description of WILLIAM BIRD, alias BIRDIE, who is charged on a warrant with stealing a double- cased silver Watch, glass broken, plated albert chain with three stones attached, at Sittingbourne, on the 28th ultimo : 20 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, thin face, sharp features, tattooed on one arm a man on a cross, and the other arm is diseased; dressed in a dark mixture cloth cap with peak, hip jacket, dark cloth trousers, and grey waist- coat ; he plays oa a tin whistle, and sings at public- houses ; was in company with another man who sings. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sitting- bourne, Kent.— Bow- street, August 9. Description of ALFRED PAULL, charged with stealing a silver Geneva Watch ( recovered), on the 18th ultimo, the property of Ann Hayward at Dorchester : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, slight sandy whiskers, hair cut short, nose slightly bent, and supposed to have a mark on forehead ; dressed in a black monkey jacket, with very large buttons, black trousers and vest, dark coloured striped shirt, blue and white necktie, Dorset militia braces and boots, and black round- top felt hat. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Coward, Borough Police Office, Guildhall, Dorchester, Dorset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, August 6. Description of ROBERT A. BOWEN, late of Great Clacton, Essex, a draper's assistant, charged with stealing a Book of Common Prayer from his late employer : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair and com- plexion, small moustache, oval face, rather foreign appearance, thick set, and occasionally wears glasses ; dressed in a blue coat, blue serge or black trousers, sometimes wears a light melton overcoat, velvet skull cap or deerstalker hat. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Daunt, County Police Station, Colchester, or to Inspector Lennon, Thorpe, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 6.
