Kotlce.— It ia requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the SSgssature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may he made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should ho appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably neassary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, al! tetters addressed to the Editor BiSHSt lie prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and . of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for Insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. AND MALICIOUSLY WOUIBIIG. Between i! p. m. on the 15th and 8 a. m. on the 18 th inat., the house of Thomas Phillips, in the village of Madley, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a Suit of Clothes ( since recovered). By a man, who had the appearance of a stableman or colt breaker, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and dressed in a dark suit, and carried a grey overcoat on his arm. Information to be given to the Superin- tendent Cope, Shire Ilall, Hereford.— Bow- street, July 21. Description of GEORGE STRONNELLS, a shoemaker, charged with brealiiug into the premises of Messrs. Reynolds, shoe manufacturers, Chesham, on the morning of the 6th inst., and stealing several pairs of Boots, since recovered ; he was discharged on licence on the 12th ultimo : he is 44 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, bald top of head, light hazel eyes, cut on forehead, burn on temple, moles on each cheek, moles and scars on each arm, scar on left thumb, and has lost nearly all the upper teeth ; dressed in dark clothes, and black hard felt hat; his photo- graph can be seen on application. Information to be given to Inspector Moore, Police Station, Chesham, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 19. Description of a man charged ( with two other men in custody) with theft by housebreaking at Kingswell, Eenwick, Ayrshire, N. B. on the 6th instant: about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, ruddy complexion and sunburnt, dark hair, no whiskers, and ordinary figure ; dressed in dark trousers and vest, brown tweed coat, ( faded and marked with grease), and Balmoral cap. Speaks with a broad Irish accent, gives the name of JOSEPH STEWART, and has the appearance of an iron moulder or engineering workman, on tramp. He has been traced southwards. Information to be Her' given Superintendent Menzies, County Constabulary, Kilmarnock, Webb, Police Station, Stony Stafford, Backs.— Boio- street, July 19. Found in the possession of a man named WILLIAM SUTTON, a horse coper, who is remanded and charged with horse stealing at South Weald, near Brentwood, on the night of the 4th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark bay Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, white star on forehead, off hind foot white, short tail cut square, and low in condi- tion. He states that lie bought the Mare at Bow Common on the 4th instant. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Bridges, Brentwood, or to Inspector Pepper, Romford, Essex.— Bow- street, July 16. Stolen during the niglit^ of the 13th instant, from Merton: a dark bay Horse, aged, 15| hands high, black points, star on forehead, with Bridle and Bearing Rein, L. B. B. in monogram on blinkers ; also a dark bay Mare, aged, one hind foot white, star on forehead, and black points.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, July 16. - Bow- street, July 16. The Body of Edward Howell, aged 13 years, was found in the Anfield Cemetery, WaltoD, on the 19th ultimo, and a verdict of ' Wilful murder' returned at the coroner' inquest against some person or persons unknown. Stamps, 10s. worth of 2d. ditto, 5s. worth of 3d. ditto, and 7s. worth of ^ d. ditto : he is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow complexion, thin face, sharp features, dark eyes, black hair cut short, slight beard on chin, no whiskers or moustache, slender figure, and walks rather lame with right leg ; he is a solicitor's clerk, late of No. 72, St. George's- road, Southwark, London, and, had previously been employed in New Kent- road. Information to be given to Superintendent Booth, Durham County Constabulary, Stockton- on- Tees, who holds a warrant for his appiehension.— Bow- street, July 23. Between 1 and 4 p. m. on the 12th instant, the house of James Ratcliffe, Denstone- lane, Alton, was entered by means / of skeleton keys,. and thirty Sovereigns and an old leather Purse stolen from a box in the bedroom. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Leek, Staffordshire,— Mow- street, July 21, Thsse men were m company with two women dressed in shepherd's plaid shawls, and they left the men about a month ago. A reward of £ 2 10 for each offender will bo paid to any persons who shall give such, information as shall lead to their apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Barker, Norman Cross, Peterborough.— Bow- street, July 23. Description of JOHN LOWE, charged with stealing two Sheep ( recovered) at Great Rollright on the 7th instant : about 40 years of age 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, high cheek bones, slightly made, and- very talkative when in drink; dressed in a black cloth coat and trousers, light tweeel vest, white calico shirt, black satiu scarf with green spots, black billycock hat, aud new lace- up boots or shoes. Attends cattle markets aud fairs as a drover, and cuts ash sticks which he offers for sale in the fairs, and is well known at Cirencester aud Gloucester. Information to be given to Superintendent Lakin, County Police Station, Chip- ping Norton, Oxon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, July 19. Remanded at Stony Stratford Polics Station till the 22nd instant, charged with horse stealing : ALFRED BELL, of the Greyhound Inn, 72, Ball's Pond- road, London, 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, hazel eyes, light brown hair, and proportionate build ; dressed in a blue serge suit, black round hat, and low shoes; he has lately been working on the Grand Junction Canal with the steam tug ' Pioneer.' DIXON, charged with stealing £ 3 from his lodgings at New Brighton, on the 18th instant: 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, red hair, blue eyes, sunburnt, very straight, and good figure; dressed in dark coat and vest, dark tweed trousers, cap with French peak, and lace- up boots ; he will probably seek employment as an assistant photographer; he talked about St. Bees, Cumberland, and he has also been in Woolwich. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Police Station, Abbey- street, Birkenhead, or to Inspector Hindlay, Sessions House, Egremont, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 26. Absconded from Easington, on the 19lh instant, charged with stealing « £ 3from his lodgings : WILLIAM WALKER, a tramping shoemaker, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, slender make, has a large red birth mark on right cheek, extending to his neck, and is a native of Malton, Yorkshire ; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, dark vest, grey mixture trousers, felt hat, elastic- side boots, and black and white necktie. Information to be given to Superintendent Scott, Police Station, Castle Eden, Durham.— Bozo- street, July 26. Charged with stealing twenty- four sash Weights, recovered; a bricklayer's labourer, 30 years of age, 5 feet C or 7 inches high, proportionate build, sallow complexion, thick lips, slight brown whiskers, and walks lame of right foot ; dressed in an old grey coat, dirty fustian trousers, laced boots, and woollen Scotch cap, with a peak. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middiesboro', Yorkshire.-^ July 26. Description of WILLIAM ISHERWOOD, a tramping watchmaker and native of Bolton, charged with stealing a Watch and the Movements of a Watch, which was entrusted to him to be cleaned and repaired; about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches hign, slightly pockpitted, and red noses and face. He wears a long brown tweed coat and billycock hat, and is supposed to have gone to Liverpool. Information to be given to Superintendent Owen, Holyhead, Anglesey.—• Bow- street, July 26. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Middlesborough, about 7 a. m. on the 24th inst. : a silver lever Watch, ' P. Kelledy' engraved outside of inner case, had a- loDg gold neck Chain attached, with rour. d and square links. By a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet .9 inches high, rather stout build, dark whiskers, a tailor, and a native of Ireland ; dressed in black cloth cutaway coat, dark tweed trousers, black felt billycock hat, and elastic- side boots, one of which has a hole in tha side. Description of GEORGE WRIGGLESWORTH, who ia charged with embezzlement: about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, thin dark hair, and slight dark whiskers ; generally wears a frock coat and a silk hat; he is a commercial traveller. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Stalybridge, on the 20th. instant: a leather Purse, containing two Sovereigns and a Half- sovereign. By JAMES WRIGHT, a, carpenter, a native of Leicester, 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light hair aud complexion, pug nose ; dressed in black cloth vest and trousers, and gray tweed monkey jacket. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cbadwick, Stalybridge, Lan- cashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 23. Absconded on the 5th instant, charged with embezzle- ment : HENRY ELLIOTT, about - 10 years of age, about 5 feet 7- jr inches high, dark complexion, eyes, and hair, whiskers and moustache, prominent nose, good teeth, walka with a long step and a short one, bald head, but the hair long on one side to comb over the crown. Stolen from a bedroom at Lisle Castle Inn, Chalk, Kent: a'pair of Trousers and Vest ( recovere J); a pair of grey cotton Socks, red ring round tops; a coloured woollen Shirt; a white 2 POLICE GAZETTE. July 26 cotton Handkerchief, blue stripe rouud border; a blue Scarf; and a blue and white striped Necktie. By a man ( who lodged at the house), about 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, and black whiskers and moustache ; dressed in a dark coat and vest, dark striped trousers, black felt hat, and lace- up shoes. Information to be given to Super- i intendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham.— Bow- street, July 19. Description of THOMAS OLIVER EWINGS, alias HARDY, alias JONEWSON, who is charged with stealing £ 1 4s. from his lodgings : he is a tramping tailor and native of Oakham, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, combed back behind the ears, light isoustache and small light whiskers, pale complexion, and feminine voice ; dressed in soft felt hat, black cloth coat, trimmed with black silk braid, double- breasted black cloth vest, dark grey trousers, worn at bottoms, and side- spring boots, with false button fronts. He has been convicted of similar charges at Oakham, London, Leicester, and Derbyshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Palmer, Kenilworth, Warwick- shire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July- 19. Description of JAMES REED, a native of Isleham, Cambridgeshire, charged on a warrant with stealing thirty- four Fleeces of Wool, the property of Mr. George Skelton, of Lutton Marsh, which were disposed of at Lynn about the 1st instant: he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light brown hair, rather sandy whiskers, high cheek- bones, and sunken cheeks ; dressed in a light suit, light billy- cock hat, ankle shoes, and red and black check woollen shirt, all appealed to be new ; he carried a watch in his waistcoat pocket, with an imitation gold albert chain, also a long new unbleached calico Bag, containing wearing apparel. He was traced from March to York, where he was convicted of felony. Has been for several years at Middlesborough, Stockton,, and other towns in the north, employed as a labourer in repairing telegraph wires, & c, and it is supposed that he will seek employment in the same capacity. Information to be given to Inspector Crawford, Holbeacb, or to Sergeant Biggadike, Long Sutton, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, July 19. Stolen from a barn in Wisbeacb, on the 16th ultimo: six Fleeces of Wool, w hich were sold the same day at Boston, at a public- house, by a man who gave the name of JAMES REED, 30 years of age, 5 feet' 5 inches high, fresh com- plexion, brown hair, very little whiskers, full face, and cheeks rather sunken; dressed when he sold the wool in a velveteen coat ( he also had a rust- colour cloth monkey coat), cotton cord trousers, rough cap with straight peak ; he was seen on the 7th inst., dressed in light clothes. Information to be given to Head Constable Sharpe, Borough Police, Wisbeach, Lin- colnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 19. Stolen from a lodging- honse at New Brighton, OH the 10th instant : a drab rep Dress, trimmed with brown, and waistbelt left behind. By a servant girl, 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark brown hair, and fresh com- plexion. She is supposed to be at South port, or some bathing place, wealing the stolen dress, and left her skirt behind. She also engaged apartments for a week and left them unpaid. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Police, Abby- street, Birkenhead, or to Inspector Hindler, Sessions House, Egremont, Cheshire.— Bow- street, July 19. Stolen, on the 9th inst., frcm 34, Albert- street: a brown vest, soft biffiyesck hat, and kce- up boots ^ he generally carries with him a small alarum clock, and. has a relative living at Bishops Castle, Salop. Information to be given to j Keeper of Hereford City Prison. Sergeant Stevenson, Kinver, or to Police Constable Ledbury, larceny, and it is supposed she has been convicted at Canter- bury and other places since. Charged ( on a warrant) with felony : ARTHUR THOMAS BUTTERSS, of Addison Villa, Holly Bush Hill, Snaresbrook, late clerk to Messrs. Bolt and Co., 10, Mark- lane : 19 or 20 years of . age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, light bro- rf; a hair, worn ' very short and with a fringe over his forehead, rather prominent cheek bones and nose, has two piomiuent teeth in upper jaw ( one on each side), and voice rather deep and indistinct utterance. He had a slight rash on his hands, and wore two large rings on left, band, one cilver and one gold, quite plain; dressed respecta- bly, the waistcoat buttons being high up. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, July 19. On the 21st instant, the Body of a woman, apparently from 30 to 40 years of age, medium size, little dark hair on top of head, was found in the River Aire, at Airmyn. The body had been in the water several months, the left hand,, left foot, and the fingers of the right hand were missing, and the features could not be recognised. There was only a pair of old stockings, a chemise, and a piece of coarse harden, upon, the body. Information to be given to Inspector Goodalij. Court House, Goole, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, July 23. Remanded at Hastings until the 29 th instant, upon s, charge of uttering Counterfeit Coin : ELIZA BAYLEY, 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fresh complexion, brown curly hair, scar from cut inside right wrist, left wrist has- been broken and imperfectly set; dressed in a white pigne- dress, black polonaise with beaded body, black straw hat trimmed with crape, black flowers, and beads. She was iff company with a man and another woman, who has escaped ; she gave her address, 9, Bath Street, City Road, London, which is false. Information to be given to Chuf Superin- tendent Glenister, Town Hall, Hastings.— Bow- st., July 23'. Charged with malicious damage to the amount of .£ 10 : Description of THOMAS DIXON ( supposed to be GEORGE WASS, 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fictitious) a native of Ireland, committed to Carlisle Gaol for light complexion, stout build, and very lame in the left knee, 14 days : 40 years of age ( but looks younger), 5 feet S^ inchea the sinews of which are so contracted that he can only place high, no whiskers or moustache, dark complexion, slender the toe on the ground ; dressed in a black felt hat, dark figure, large cross tattooed on right side, and brown curly monkey jacket, and light coloured trousers ; he is a shoe- j hair ; dressed in an old brown tweed coat and vest, black maker, and a native of Stoke- by- Nayland, Suffolk. He may : tweed trousers, soft hat, and strong boo's. He states that probably be found either at No. 25, Hyde park- gardens, or . he has been at sea on board a ship called the ' Surrey,' and. No. 28, Chippenham- mews, Harrow- road, Paddinton, Londor. was lately employed at Darlington, where he lost the first Information to be given to Superintendent Chapman, Box- joint of the third finger of left hand. Description of THOMAS PAGE and RUTH PAGE, charged ( with JESSE PAGE MERYCK, who is in custody), with conspiring and defrauding a lady named Westbrook of j> 911, at Knowle, in the county of Warwick : Thomas Page is frem 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, black hair and bushy whiskers turning grey, rather ruddy face, square build, walks very erect, is ' well educated, and of gentlemanly appearance ; wears a gold ring on each little finger, one with a green stone, and the other a red one, also a gold watch and albert chain, the watch bears the following inscription : ' Presented to Mr. Arthur by a few of his commercial friends, August 1st, 1865.' Page and the woman Ruth Page, who passes as his wife, have been living at Broadstairs up to the 1st instant, prior to that at Southsea ; he has been employed at the Educational Department, Whitehall. Ruth Page is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, thin figure, very dark complexion, and black hair, worn low on the forehead and very frizzy. He was convicted at Maidstone on the 13th March, 1871, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude for uttering Counterfeit Coin at Bromley, and was discharged from Woking Prison on the 6th instant.
