Absconded from Hedley Hill, in the parish of Lanchester, on the night of jjhe 10th instant, charged with cutting and wounding Williaii Henry Robinson, whilst in the execution of his duty as a police constable, of the Durham County Con- stabulary : BENJAMIN ALLISON, 35 or 36 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fair complexion, full face, grey eyes, light brown hair, cut short, and whiskers shaved off, stout figure ; dressed in dark clothes; he is a pitman, and a native of Durham. Information to be given to Superintendent Oliver, Consett, Durham, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, July 16. Ou the 9th ultimo, the body of a Male Child about 10 days old was found in a pond in the parish of Compton Pauncefoot, Somersetshire, and at a Coroner's inquest a ver- dict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. The body had wrapped round it two calico napkins ( much worn), and a white cashmere muffler, and in its mouth was a piece of white dimity, tied up into what is called a ' Sugar teat,' and a cord round its neck, with a large stone at the end for the purpose of sinking the body, which is supposed to have been in the water for seversl weeks. £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to BURGLARY ABB HOUSE BREAKING. Description of a man charged ( with two other ' men in custody) with theft by housebreaking at Kingswell, Fenwick, Ayrshire, N. B. on the 6th instant: about 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, ruddy complexion and sunburnt, dark hair, no whiskers, and ordinary figure ; dressed in dark trousers and vest, brown tweed coat, ( faded and marked with grease), and Balmoral cap. Speaks with a broad Irish accent, gives the name of JOSEPH STEWART, and has the appearance of an iron moulder or engineering workman, on tramp. He has been traced southwards. Information to be be given to Superintendent Menzies, County Constabulary, Kilmarnock.— Bow- street, July 16. • HH Stolen from Weybridge, about 4 p. m. on the 8th instant, by means of skeleton keys: six Table Spoons, marked ' G. J. B.;' eighteen Tea Spoons ; a Dessert Spoon, crest— a stag's head ; two Spoons, marked ' E. T.;' all silver ; a small gold Geneva Watch ; a very old double- eased silver Watch ; a gold Guard Chain; and three gold Rings. By two men, driving a light chestnut horse and light dogcart : one from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark com- plexion, black moustache, no whiskers, stout build, and of gentlemanly appearance ; dressfed in dark clothes, and high black hat. The other about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ins. high, light complexion, stout build, and had the appearance of a coachman ; dressed in light drab clothes, and high black hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, July 14. During the night o£ the 9th instant, the shop of Mr. Robert Bell, Market- street, Hyde, was broken into and stolen therein : four pieces of black Gros- Grain Silk, containing about 40 yards each, three of which have purple aud white borders, £ 3 10s. in Copper, £ 1- iu Silver, and 10s. in Stamps. Stolen on the 5th instant, by means of housebreaking, the property of Mr. Muggeridge Copsale, Nuthurst, Horsham: four electro- plated table Spoons ; two salt Spoons; two mustard Spoons ; a pair of sugar Tongs ; two jet Brooches ; two gold twist Brooches ; a gold Brooch, with green setting ; a gold Brooch, with forget- me not; three pairs oi gold Ear- rings ; a pair of jet Ear- rings ; two gold Rings, one with hair inlaid, and marked with the initials ' S. M.', the other set with small white stone and a red one in the middle ; a any person who shall give such information and evidence as g° l< l Locket, containing hair ; a silver Thimble; an old silver shall lead to the discovery aud conviction of the murderer or pair- case verge Watch,_ maker John Nicholls, No. 6418 - — murderess of the Child, and the Secretary of State for th Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any . accomplice, not being the actual mur- derer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Supposed by a man, about 30 years o£ age, 5 feet 5 inches high ; dressed in a dark jacket and trousers, elastic- side boots, and black high hat, carrying with him a black bug, and goes about hawking pills. Information to be giveir to Superintendent Henderson, West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- rtreet, July 9. rORGERY. Absconded from Paris in September last, charged with forgery : PAUL MARIE HONCRE SEGUIN, a clerk, 26 years of age, middle height, small black whiskers, bends his head down when walking, usually carries a cane which he flourishes, and was in the franc- tireurs. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard, London.— Bow- street, July 12. Description of CHARLES KNOWSLEY, a commercial traveller, who abscondsd from Plymouth, about the 1st. inst., charged with forging a Bill of Exchange, for £ 57 12s. 6d. : he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, the latter rather long, full bright eyes, and of smart appearance ; generally dressed in blue frock coat, with velvet collar, grey mixed trousers and vest, and black silk hat; he is well known in commercial hotels iu the South Western counties. Information to be given to Chief Super- intendent Wreford, Central Police Station, Plymouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 9. Charged on a warrant with forgery in the city of London, WILLIAM JOHN GENTIL BARRETT, late of Elmstone- eourt, Wingham, near Canterbury : about 39 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, prominent nose, slender build, and Jewish appearance. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, July 7. 15 hands 2 inches high, aged, star on forehead, in very good condition, and had a head collar on. A black horse" Pony, 3 years old, 12 hands high, in good condition, ears split. A black horse Cob, 6 years old, 15 hands 2 inches high, and mark on right side of shoulder from the collar. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire. — Bow- street, Julv 14. Stolen from the Foss Farm at Brokenborough, on the night of the 10th instant, the property of Mr. Henry Telling: eleven 2- year old Heifers, one roan- coloured, seven red and white, two red, and one brown. Information to be given to Superintendent Beauchamp, Malmesbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, July 12. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Walsall, during the night of the 3rd instant, a light brown cart Mare, aged, 14J hands high, off hind foot white, and star on fore- head. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 9. Stolen during the night of the 4th instant, from a field at Southweald, the property of Harry Fox, farmer : a bright bay horse Cob, 12 years old, about 14ahands high, black mane, tail, and legs, with small white mark on inside of off hind foot, and very fat.' Also stolen during the night of the 7th instant, from a field in Spit- lane, Southweald, the property of James Manning : a bay nag Mare, 8 years old, 10 hands higb, small white mark on near fore leg above the knee, black mane and tail, chipped knees, wart on inside of off hind quarter, and near hind fetlock a little swollen. Information to be given to Superintendent Bridges, Brent- wood, Essex.— Bow- street, July 9. Stolen from a stable in Preston, between 10 p. m. of the 7th and 6 a. m. of the 8th instant: a dark grey Cob, 15 hands high, 4 years old, tail uncut, a small mark above knee of right forelig, had a grey rug on with pink, white, aud yellow stripes on one side, and a leather halter. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the borough of Bolton, on the evening of the 5th instant: & silver lever Watch, No. 39,636, engine turned cases, and had attached a gold Chain, diamond pattern. By two men, of whom no description can be given. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 9. Stolen from the person at Stafford Railway Station, at 12 noon on the 5th instant, a lady's silver Geneva Watch, silver dial, chased on back of case, with a 9- carat gold Chain, HOSEU AIB < DA1TL£ STEALING. Found in the possession of a man named WILLIAM SUTTON, a horse coper, who is reminded and charged with horse stealing at South Weald, near . Brentwood, on the night o£ the 4th instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark bay Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, white star on forehead, off hind foot white, short tail cut square, and low in condi- tion. He states that he bought the Mare at Bow Common on the 4th iustant. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Bridges, Brentwood, or to Inspector Pepper, Romford, Essex.— Bow- street, July 16. Stolen during the night- of the 13th instant, from Merton: a dark bay Horse, aged, 15i hands high, black points, star on forehead, with Bridle and Bearing Reiu, L. B. B. in monogram on blinkers ; also a dark bay Mare, aged, one hind foot white, Btar on forehead, and black points.— Metropolitan Police, V Division, July 16. Stolen from Orton Longville, during the night of the 10th instant: an aged black cart Horse, about 16 hands high, face partly white, and hair partly rubbed off the upper part of the tail ; and an aged bay half- bred harness Mare, about 16 hands high, switch tail, carries her head very high when going, and has chipped knees. Two men of the follow- ing description are supposed to have stolen the same, and two Bridles and Saddles from Thorpe, where they had been hay- making : one is about 22 years of age, 5 feet high, stout build, fair complexion, and dressed in a sleeved waistcoat and dark cap; the other is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, very dark complexion, large nose, and dressed in an old coat and trousers, and black billycock hat. They had. the appearance of gipsies, and are tattooed on one arm. These men, with the horses, saddles, and bridles, were seen near Royston, Cambs, on the 11th instant, enquiring the nearest road to Whitechapel, London, saying they bad come from Grantham. Information to be given to Superintendent Barker, Normancross, Peterborough, Northampton.— Bow- street, July 14. Supposed to have been stolen from a field at Walsall, during the night of the 11th instant; a bay cart Horse, M1CMY AID EMBEZlIEMElf. Stolen, on the 9th inst., frcm 34, Albert- street: a brown sealskin Jacket, worn ; a black French merino Cape, trimmed Yak lace and bugles ; a blue waterproof Cloak ; a silk Shirt, peach colour; a silk Umbrella, ivory handle, let in with pearls; a black velvet sleeveless Jacket, trimmed with Yak lace ; a black and blue silk net Bonnet ; a brown leather luggage Strap ; a black quilted alpaca Skirt; two pairs of cream coloured Balbriggan Stockings ( women's) ; & c. : by a woman, 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, fair complexion, pimpled, light hair, blue eyes, and stout build; supposed dressed iu stolen clothes, aud to have gone to Soham, C^ mbs. She has travelled in the provinces with a music hall singer. — Metropolitan Police, S Division, July 10. CATHERINE COYLE, late o£ Wrexham, was com- mitted for trial at the Denbighshire Quarter Sessions held on the 1st instant; for larceny ; she was admitted to bail, but did not surrender, aud a true bill having been found against her, her bail wa3 estreated, and a bench warrant was issued for her apprehension : she is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stoutly built, swarthy complexion, auburn hair tinged with grey, and face slightly pockmarked. She travels with a man about 40 years of age, light complexion, light hair, and sandy tuft on chin ; he. hawks oraDges, nut?, and occasionally fish, attending country fairs and markets. The woman stated that she was a native of Hull, and that she left there about six months ago. Information to be given to Superintendent Hammonds, Constabulary Office, Llanrwst, Denbighshire, who holds the warrant.— Bow street, July 16. Charged with stealing four Sheep Skins ( recovered) at Glynfach, Llanigon, Breconshire, on the 20th ultimo : THOMAS KENT, a maker and hawker of cabbage nets at fairs and markets, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, light brown hair, blue eyes, small tuft of hair on chin, very much sunburnt, looks sickly and is hollow in the cheeks, has a sluggish gait, and speaks with a Stafford- shire accent; supposed dressed in an old cloth monkey jacket or slop, corduroy or fustian trousers, and dark bowler hat. His wife is now employed as a picker in some gardens near London ; he received a letter from her to say she will leave about the third week in August, and will meet him to go to pick hops ( supposed) in Herefordshire. His wife obtained a pedlar's certificate, in September, 1874, for the city of Hereford, and is endorsed for the county of Hereford, but the man has now got the certificate in his possession. Information to be given to Superintendent Evans, Crick- howell, or to Sergeant Jones, Hay, Breconshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bmn- strest, July IS, 2 POLICE GAZETTE. July 16 Absconded on the 14th instant, stealing a 2- wheel Hand Truck, painted dark chocolate, with new handle— painted black, and 10s. 5d., the property of his master > a youth, 1.6 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, rather dark complexion, and full face; dressed in pilot jacket, vest, and trousers, and cheesecutter cap.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, July 16. Charged with stealing Silk : a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slim, fair hair and complexion, one upper front tooth broken ; dressed in black cloth coat, light vest and trousers, and black billycock hat.— Metropolitan Police, G Division, July 16. Stolen at Great Driffield, on the 11th instant: a blue cloth reefing Jacket, black velvet collar, and bone buttons, lined with magenta and black flannel: and a blue and white Scarf. By a woman, about 24 years of age, and small figure ; dressed in dark stuff dress, small dark shawl, black hat, and wore long ear- rings. She was accompanied by a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion, and dark moustache ; dressed in black velvet cap, light scarf, and dark coat. Both have the appearance of tramps. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Harper, East Riding Constabulary, Driffield.— Bow- street, July 14. Description of a tramp charged with stealing a Shovel ( since recovered) at Greenham, on the 4th instait: about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, has been a soldier, and sometimes hawks earthenware ; dressed in round bowler hat, dark coat, and old cord trousers, mended at the knees. When at Newbury, he was accompanied by a female, who was possessed of a pedlar's certificate. Supposed gone to Aider- shot. Information to be given to Superintendent Bennett, Newbury, Berks.— Bow street, July 14. Description of JOHN WOOD, alias GEORGE CLIFFORD, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 2 Is. lid.: about 20 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, and speaks very softly; dressed in a dark cloth coat and vest, mixture trousers, high round crowned felt hat, and is a native of Bridge, near Canterbury. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Compton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 12. Stolen from Greenhithe, at 7 a m. on the 10th instant: a white duck Jacket and a Scotch Cap, by a boy who has ab- sconded from the Training Ship ' Arethusa'; he is about 18 years of age, 5 feeikhigb, and of fresh complexion ; dressed m black trousers, and the stolen Jacket and Cap. iuforma- tion to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, July 12. Description of two men charged ( on a warrant) with felony: JAMES BRYANT, who resided at the ' Bull's Head,' Little Windmill- street, Haymarket, 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, brushed up in fiont and slightly bald at back of head, hazel eyes, and an upper front tooth deficient; and THOMAS STEVENS, who resided at No. 21, Sharwood- street, Regent- street, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, thick lips, and lisps; both are dressed respectably. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry.— Bow- street, July 9. On the 1st iustant, at Walpole, near Halesworth, a man named CHARLES HAWKE, a watchmaker, obtained a Watch, under the pretence that ho would repair the same, and at once sold it, and converted it to his own use : he is about 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, grey hair and whiskers, full face ; dressed in light coat and vest, cord trousers, grey billycock hat, aud old lace- up boots ; he is in the habit of blowing through his hand, representing a trumpet, and is a native of Wickham Market, and has tramped the country for several years past ; carries bis tools in a rush basket. A warrant is issued foi his apprehension. Information to be given to P. C. Bootman, Walpole, or to the Police at Halesworth, Suffolk.— Brno- street, July 9. Stolen from a painter's shop at Northwich, on one of the nights of the 3rd or 4th instant: a set of steel graining Combs, one Overgrainer, a quantity of painters Brushes of various sizes, three putty Knives, three painters Trowels, one box of camel hair Pencils, 1 lb. of scarlet Lake in a paper parcel, steel Compasses, Note Paper, one light grey Melton cloth summer Overcoat, with silk velvet collar to match, fore- parts silk lined, one dark grey waterproof tweed Summer Coat, silk lined and collar of same material; and one dark brown tweed Overcoat, same style as above. All the Coats have side pockets, and very slightly stock soiled. Supposed by a man of the following description : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches hiyh, light complexion, no whiskers or beard, has a very full chest and a hump back. He some- times works at painting, or aa an ostler' at public- houses. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Mid- dlewich, or to Inspector Dutton, Police Station, Northwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, July 9. Description of MADAME DE MARLEY, who absconded from Canton, near Cardiff, on the 26th ultimo, charged on a warrant with larceny : she represented herself to be lady companion to an invalid countess, and came there to prepare adequate lodgings; she is about 45 years of age, dark complexion, black hair, short and stout, fat face, and speaks English and French fluently ; dressed in grey cash- mere dress, trimmed with blue silk, large grey straw hat, with grey feather and trimmings, but may be dressed in black silk, velvet, or lustre skirt, and light biown tops to hei boots; she generally stays at first- class hotels, and engages cabs, & c., to take her to adjoining towns, when she is imme- diately missed, without settling her bills and cab fares. Information to be given to Superintendent Matthews, Ponty- pridd, Glamorganshire, who holds the warrant for her appre- hension.— Bow- street, July 9. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Coppull, about 6- 30 a. m. on the 26th ult. : a Coat ( recovered) ; a black knotted witney or frieze cloth Overcoat, with black velvet collai, lined with black stuff, double- breasted; and a blue- grey woollen Shirt, with narrow blue and [ white stripes in it. By a man, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark com- plexion, moustache, and beard ( about a fortnight's growthl, and stout build ; dressed in a black velvet cap, with a tassel or button on the top and hook on the peak in front, dark monkey jacket with velvet collar, dark ribbed imitation cloth trousers, and shoes ; he is supposed to have a wound mark on left fore arm, and has stated that he served in the American army during the war. Has been in the habit of eoajuring in public- houses and beer- houses, aud sometimes pretends that he is deaf and dumb. Information to be given to Superintenden Beetham, County Police Office, Chorley, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 7. Absconded sfnce the 19th instant, from Regent- street, embezzling £ 75 ; OLDHAM CHAELES FAULKNER, late of 27, Wells- street, Oxford- street, 28 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ( slight) ; dressed respectably, and his father resides at Walton- street, Oxford. Warrant Issued.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, July 7. Stolen about 5 p. m. on the Cth instant, from a smithy at Cricklade- street, Swindon, the property of Eli Rowland : a silver Geneva Watch, seconds hand broken, minute hand loose ; and a common long guard Chain attached. By a man, abou1. 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, and whiskers ; dressed in a black cloth jacket and vest, dark trousers, print necktie, and soft bowler hat; had the appearance of a mechanic. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, July 7. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). Description of a man who gives his name as ' HENRY SMITH, committed for a felonious assault on a girl under 10 years of age, at Brynmawr, for trial at the Assizes, on the 19th instant: he is about 45 years of age, says he is only 35, 5 feet 1| inch high, dark brown hair, dark eye, blind of the left, sallow complexion, rather long face, thin beard and moustache, proportionate build, shuffling gait, small scar over right temple, scars between eyebrows, and a wart on back of neck ; he is well acquainted with the names of Egyptian, Syrian, Rtd Sea Ports, 1 the Suez Canal, & c ; says he has been a dragoman in charge of camel drivers at the Canal and in Arabia ; he has also been a gardener and a sailor, and was born in Bermondsey, London.
