The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marl^ of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. Notice.— It is requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or Btolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably ne^ sssary that an Information should be made and oworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor canst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded en War Office Forms 88 and 88a, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the borough of Bolton, on the evening of the 5th instant: a silver lever Watch, No. 39,636, engine turned cases, and had attached a gold Chain, diamond pattern. By two men, of whom no description can be given. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 9. Stolen from the person at Stafford Railway Station, at 12 noon on the 5th instant, a lady's silver Geneva Watch, silver dial, chased on back of case, with a 9- carat gold Ciiain, Locket, aud Seal attached. Stolen from the person by a fellow- lodger whilst sleeping in an outbuilding at Laceby Farm, Standedge, between 12 and 4 a. m. on the 25th instant : a silver lever Watch, No. 105 Queen's Cigars, the property of Edward Fermor. Sup- posed by a man who was seen loitering about the neighbour- hood during the day, about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins. high, fair c itnplexion, brown hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in brown suit with high black hat, and carried an umbrella. During the night of the 27th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William Goodyer, Station- street, West Bromwich, waa broken and entered, and stolen therein : a blajk velvet Jacket; a light brown cloth Jacket; a daik grey waterproof Cloak ; a scarlet and black Table Cover ; two linen Table Cloths ; 4^ yards of grey dress Material ; a lady's Satchel, with Purse, containing 10s. ; a baby's drab cloth Cloak ; two pairs of Stockings ; three Chemises; and a blue Feather. A silver lever Watch, chronometer balance, jewelled in FORGERY. Description of CHARLES KNOWSLEY, a commercial traveller, who absconded from Plymouth, about the 1st. inst.,; charged with forging a Bill of Exchange, for £ 57 12s. 6d. : he is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, the latter rather long, full bright eyes, and of smart appearance ; generally dressed in blue frock coat, with velvet collar, grey mixed trousers and vest, and black silk hat; he is well known in commercial hotels in the South Western counties. Description of CHARLES FIRTH, a butcher, charged uttering a forged Cheque, for £ 7 15s., aud who ha3 also uttered the following forged cheques : No. 128101, Leicester, June 19, 1875, the Leicestershire Banking Company, pay Mr. Nichols cr bearer £ 16, signed J. W. Smith, crossed Bassett & Co., Newport Pagnall, to Barclay & Co. ; Leicester, June 12, 1875, No. 128098, the Leicestershire Banking Company, pay J. Smart or bearer, £ 4 15s., signed R. Humphrey, crossed National Provincial Bank, East Dere ham ; a Cheque, paid into the pay office, Nottingham Cattle Market, and signed R. B. Humphrey, for £ 16 2s. He pro- cured a cheque book from the Leicestershire Banking Com- pany, containing 24 cheques, numbered from 128089 to 128112, and will probably try to put off other cheques at cattle markets, & c. : he is about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, thin face, sallow complexion, rather broad shoulders ; was dressed in dark blue coat, light vest, and stiff billycock hat. A gold Albert Guard, close pattern, 9 carats. 2 gold Seals, one with round cut glass in centre. 5 pairs of light steel Spectacles, clipped with white wax at ends. 4 round steel Cutters. About £ 2 15s. in Money. By THOMAS FIDDLER, who is about 32 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, proportionate make, tattooed on one wrist, ears pierced; dressed in d » rk ribbed cloth coat and vest, light plain or tweed trousers, Scotch cap, and shoes ; has been a soldier, and is a returned convict; has worked at ironworks, and lately worked for waste dealers. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 5. During the night of the 25th ultimo, the following places at Rhyl, were broken aud entered, and stolen : From the refreshment room on the pier : about 8s. in Silver, a box of Cigars, a box of Cheroots, four pint bottles of Champagne, and a small box of mixed Biscuits. From the cloak room on the pier : three glass Jars, each containing 4 lbs. of Sweets, one acid drops, one peppermint paradise, and the other mixed fruit, a quantity of brazil Nuts, six dozen Hat Guards, and 3s. 3£ d. in Silver and Copper. And from a butcher's shed : the hinder part of a Sheep. Information to be given to Superintendent Hughes, Holy- well, or to Inspector McLaren, Rhyl, Flintshire.— Bow- street, July 2. On the night of the 28th ultimo the Sergison's Arms Inn, Hayward's Heath, in the parish of Cuckfield, Sussex, was entered by means of unfastening the bar window, and the following property Btolen from the bar : 250 Ilabana and set of plated silver mounted Harness. By two men, oue 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers and moustache ; the other is 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, and small dark mous- tache ; both were dressed in ribbed coat and trousers and soft felt hats, and had the appearance of gipsy horse- dealers. £ 5 reward for the apprehension of the men and recovery of the property. Metropolitan Police, Y Division, July 7. Found at Ditton Priors, Salop, on the 1st instant, and supposed to be stolen : a rough light brown mare Donkey, in foal, and unshod. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Police Constable Hughes, Ditton Priors, Salop.— Bow- street, July 5. Stolen from a field at Fenny Stratford, ou the night of the 24th instant : a dark brown nag Mare, 14i hands high, 9 years old, a fast trotter, black legs, mane, and tail, white star on forehead, near fore shoe worn down ; an old- fashioned spring Gig, painted black with a little green intermixed, seat and two cushions, drab colour ; a brown- handled Gig Whip ; a set of black Harness, brown collar with brass terrets ; and a pair of Reins, much worn; the property of Mr. Thomas Hammond, farmer. Two meu passed through Dunstable about 2- 30 a. m. on the 25th instant, with a horse and ' gig corresponding with the above, and were going in the direction of Loudon ; the men were of the following description : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, and dressed iu dark clothes ai'd black billycock hat ; the other about 21 years of age, thin, and dressed in dark clothes aud black billycock hat; the clothes of both men were shabby. £ 25 reward will bo paid to any person who will give such infor- mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Stolen on the night of the 29tli ultimo, from a stable and cart- house, at Whitley, near Reading : a handsome dark brown active cait Gelding, short legged, thick made, 12 or 13 years old, about 15 hands 1 inch high, a white spot on the 232 . July 16 near shoulder, rubbed by the collar ; and a set of nearly new brass- monnted Harness, brass hames and rings on the same, and cart Saddle; also a nearly new large size Spring Cart, chocolate colour, lined with red, and the name of ' Henry B Wren, Whitley, on the Cart behind, with the initials ' H. B. W.' in gilt letters ou side pannels and Collin's patent axles. £ 15 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the recovery and conviction « . f the offender or offenders. Supposed stolen and left at Horncastle on the 25th ult.: a light brown nag Mare, 7 years old, 14 hands 2 inches high, black legs, white off hind fetlock, plain head, Collar and Saddle marked : also stolen a Saddle and Bridle with plated buckles. Information to be given to Superintendent Jarvis, Police Station, Horncastle, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, Jul// 2. Stolen from a stable at Livesey, about 4 a. m. on the 28th instant: a bright bay cart Mare, about 15 hauds 1 inch high, white face and hind legs, wall eye on light side, 4 years old, and in good condition ; also stolen a Saddle and Bridle. A man was seen riding the above mare towards Brindle, and is supposed to have gone in the direction of Ormskirk and Liverpool. Information to be given to Superintendent Bead, County Police Office, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bmo- slteet, June 30. Stolen from a field in Middlesborongh, on the night of the 27th instant: a light brown mare Pony, aged, 13^ hands high, slack backed, both hind feet white, grey about face, and has a patch of grey just above the hock of right hii. d leg, long tbin switch tail, and in fair condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough.— Bow- street, June 30. Stolen from a field at Maidenwell, near Louth, the pro- perty of G. H. Browne, Esq. : five Lambs, marked ' B' on the near side, between the 19th and 26th instant. Whoever will give s* ch information as shall lead to the apprehension and eouviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Lambs, shall receive £ 7 7s. reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, County Police Station, Louth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 30. LA1CENT AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of two men charged ( on a warrant) with felony: JAMES BRYANT, who resided at the ' Bull's Head,' Little Windmill- street, Haymarket, 45 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, brushed up in fiont and slightly bald at back of head, hazel eyes, and an upper front tooth deficient; and THOMAS STEVENS, who resided at No. 21, Sharwood- street, Regent- street, 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark com- plexion, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, thick lips, and lisps; both are dressed respectably. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, Detective Department, City of London Police, 26, Old Jewry.— Bow- street, July 9. On the 1st instant, at walpole, near Halesworth, a man named CHARLES HAWKE, a watchmaker, obtained a Watch, under the pretence that he would repair the same, and at once sold ' t. and converted it to his own use: he is abont 60 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches higb, grey hair and whiskera, full face ; dressed in light coat and vest, cord trousers, grey billycock hat, and old lace- up boots ; he is in the habit of blowing through his hand, representing a trumpet, and is a native of Wickham Market, and has tramped the country for several years past ; carries his tools in a rush basket. A warrant is issued foi his apprehension. Information to be given to P. C. Bootman, Walpole, or to the Police at Halesworth, Suffolk.— Bow- street, Jv. ly 9. Stolen from a painter's shop at Northwich, on one of the nights of the 3rd or 4th instant: a set of steel graining Combs, one Overgrainer, a quantity of painters Brushes of various sizes, three putty Knives, three painters Trowels, one box of camel hair Pencils, 1 lb. of scarlet Lake in a paper parcel, r. teel Compasses, Note Paper, one light grey Melton cloth summer Overcoat, with silk velvet collar to match, fore- parts silk lined, one dark grey waterproof tweed Summer Coat, silk lined and collar of same material ; and one dark brown tweed Overcoat, same style as above. All the Coats have side pockets, and very slightly stock soiled. Supposed by a man of the following description : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches hi^ h, light complexion, no whiskers or beard, has a very full chest and a hump back. He some- times works at painting, or as an ostler at public- houses. * Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Mid- dlewich, or to Inspector Dutton, Police Station, Northwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, July 9. Description of MADAME DE MARLEY, who absconded from Canton, near Cardiff, on the 26th ultimo, charged on a warrant with larceny : she represented herself to be lady companion to an invalid countess, and came there to prepare adequate lodgings; she is about 45 years of age, dark complexion, black hair, short and stout, fat face, and speaks English and French fluently ; dressed in grey cash- mere dress, trimmed with blue silk, large grey straw hat, with grey feather and trimmings, but may be dressed in black silk, velvet, or lustre skirt, and light hrowu tops to hei boots; she generally stays at first- class hotels, and engages cabs, & c., to take her to adjoining towns, when she is imme- diately missed, without settling her hills and cab fares. Information to be given to Superintendent Matthews, Ponty- pridd, Glamorganshire, who holds the warrant for her appre- hension.— Bow- street, July 9. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Coppull, about 6 20 a. m. on the 26th ult. : a Coat ( recovered) ; a black knotted witney or frieze cloth Overcoat, with blaek velvet collai, lined with black stuff, double- breasted; and a blue- grey woollen Shirt, with narrow blue and [ white stripes in it. By a man, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark com- plexion, moustache, and beard ( about a fortnight's growth), and stout build ; dressed in a black velvet cap, with a tassel or button on the top and hook on the peak in front, dark monkey jacket with velvet collar, dark ribbed imitation cloth trousers, and shoes ; he ia supposed to have a wound mark on left fore arm, and has stated that he served in the American army during the war. Has been in the habit of coajuring in public- houses and beer- houses, and sometimes pretends that he is deaf and dumb. Information to be given to Superintenden Beetham, County Police Office, Chorley, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 7. Absconded sfnee the 19th instanf, from Regent- street, embezzling £ 75 : OLDHAM CHARLES FAULKNER, late of 27, Wells- street, Oxford- street, 28 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. higb, dark complexion, hair, i. nd whiskers ( slight) ; dressed respectably, and his father resides at Walton- street, Oxford. Warrant Issued.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, Ju ly 7. Stolen about 5 p. m. on the 6th instant, from a smithy at stolen clothes and soft Bowler hat. He is a native of Pont- Cricklade- street, Swindon, the property of Eli Rowland : a vane near Brecon, a painter or stoker, or may be found silver Geneva Watch, seconds hand broken, minute hand working with plate- lasers, or firing boilers iu works.
