Police.— It ia requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed • Offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in • reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may he made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably nesssary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mn& t be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Eorms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 9th ultimo, the body of a Male Child about 10 ways old was found in a pond in the parish of Compton Pauncefoot, Somersetshire, and at a Coroner's inquest a ver- dict of ' Wilful Murder1 was returned against some person or persons unknown. The body had wrapped round it two < csilico napkins ( much worn), and a white cashmere muffler, • and in its mouth was a piece of white dimity, tied up into - j-' What is called a ' Sugar teat,' and a cord round its neck, with • a. large stone at the end for the purpose of sinking the body, which ia supposed to have been in the water for seversl weeks. £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Maje'st/ s Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery aud conviction of the murderer or murderess of the Child, and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the actual mur- derer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Description of THOMAS TIERNEY, who is charged with causing the death of a man whilst fighting with him on the night of the lGtli instant, in Sheffield : about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown liair, very stoutly built, his nose has lx<. U broken, and has lost a portion of first right finger; he is a slater, and was dressed in dark coat and vest, cotton cord trousers, and low felt hat. He may be accompanied by a little woman, about 25 years of age. He is a native of Birmingham. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Central Police Office, Sheffield.— Bou- sireet, June 30. Description of PATRICK McGOWAN, who absconded from the borough of Middlesborough on the 24th instant, charged with assaulting and inflicting grievous bodily harm on one David Conway, labourer : he is 25 years of age, 5 feet 5f inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, small light whiskers and moustache, nose rather large and sharp at end, stoutly huilt, has a scar oh left cheek, is a labourer, and a native of Leitrim, Ireland; generally dressed in a suit of dark clothes and hard felt hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Yorkshire, who holds a worrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 28. ROBBEEY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at Stafford Railway Station, at 12 noon on the 5th instant, a lady's silver Geneva Watch, silver dial, chased on back of case, with a 9- carat gold Chain, Locket, and Seal attached. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, July 7. Stolen from the person by a fellow- lodger whilst sleeping in an outbuilding at Laceby Farm, Standedge, between 12 and 4 a. m. on the 25th instant : a silver lever Watch, No. 4,010, maker's name Rodolph, London, had white dial, sunk seconds, and steel hands ; attached was a gold plated Albert Guard, snake pattern, and a Locket, bible pattern; pair of watertight Boots, newly heeled, right boot toe- bitted and fastened on with clog nails, and the left one worn off at the toe. By a tramp, a winder in a cotton mill, who was hay- making on the farm, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, sallow complexion, pimpled nose, from drink, blue eyes, short dark hair, moustache, and slender build; dressed in dark cloth coat and vest, dirty moleskin trousers, all much worn, billycock hat, and wearing the stolen boots; has worked in mills in the neighbourhood of Oldham, Aehton, and Stalybridge. Information to be given to Inspector Whincup, West Riding Constabulary, Saddle worth, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 30. and a Bottle of Brandy. Supposed by an Irishman, a tramp, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inehes high, light complexion, and small whiskers and beard ; dressed in a ragged grey coat, dirty light trousers, and billycock hat. He carries a short stick, and sings at beer- houses. Information to be given at the Police Station, Aylesbury, Bucks.— Bow- street. June 30. HORSE AND CATTLE STBALIifG: Stolen during the night of the 14th ultimo, from a field at East Mousley : a bay cob Horse, chipped knees, grey hairs on face, scar on left cheek, and in good condition ; also a mahogany village Cart, new shafts, wheels varnished, and a set of plated silver mouhted Harness. By two men, one 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers and moustache ; the other is 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, and small dark mous- tache ; both were dressed in ribbed coat and trousers and soft felt hats, and had the appearance of gipsy horse- dealers. £ 5 reward for the apprehension of the men and recovery of the property. Metropolitan Police, V Division, July 7. Found at Ditton Priors, Salop, on the 1st instant, and supposed to be stolen : a rough light brown mare Donkey, in foal, and unshod. Charged on a warrant with forgery in the city of London, WILLIAM JOHN GENTIL BARRETT, late of Elmstone- court, Wingham, near Canterbury : about 39 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache, prominent nose, slender build, and Jewish appearance. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, July 7. Description of CHARLES FIRTH, a butcher, charged uttering a forged Cheque, for £ 7 15s., and who has also uttered the following forged cheques : No. 128101, Leicester, June 19, 1875, the Leicestershire Banking Company, pay Mr. Nichols cr bearer £ 16, signed J. W. Smith, crossed Bassett & Co., Newport Pagnall, to Barclay & Co.; Leicester, June 12, 1875, No. 128098, the Leicestershire Banking Company, pay J. Smart or bearer, £ 4 15s., signed R. Humphrey, crossed National Provincial Bank, East Dere- ham ; a Cheque, paid into the pay office, Nottingham Cattle Market, and Bigned R. B. Humphrey, for £ 16 2s. He pro- cured a cheque book from the Leicestershire Banking Com- pany, containing 24 cheques, numbered from 128089 to 128112, and will probably try to put © if other cheques at ce^ le markets, & c. : he is about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, thin face, sallow complexion, rather broad shoulders ; was dressed in dark blue coat, light vest, and stiff billycock hat. Between 6 p. m. on the 26th and 5' 30 a. m. on the 27th instant, the offices at Phoenix Mill, Blackburn, were broken and entered, and stolen therein, the property of Mr. William Shaw, manager : A silver lever Watch, chronometer balance, jewelled in every action, sunk seconds, No. 920. An American Bilver lever Watch, engine- turned case, white dial, blue steel fingers, makers Whittam and Moss ( Fogg's Patent), No. 741011 ( since recovered). A silver lever or Geneva Boston Watch, white dial, engine- turned case, blue steel fingers, sunk seconds, jewelled in eight holes ( since recovered). A gold Guard, open pattern, much warn. A gold Albert Guard, close pattern, 9 carats. 2 gold Seals, one with round cut glass in centre. 5 pairs of light steel Spectacles, dipped with white wax at ends. 4 round steel Cutters. About £ 2 15s. in Money. By THOMAS FIDDLER, who is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 3j inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, proportionate make, tattooed on one wrist, ears pierced; dressed in dirk ribbed cloth coat and vest, light plain or tweed trousers, Scotch cap, and shoes ; has been a soldier, and is a returned convict; has worked at ironworks, and lately worked for waste dealers. A warrant is issued for his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 5. During the night of the 25th ultimo, the following places at Rhyl, were broken and entered, and stolen : From the refreshment room on the pier : about 8s. in Silver, a box of Cigars, a box of Cheroots, four pint bottles of Champagne, and a small box of mixed Biscuits. From the cloak room on the pier : three glass Jars, each containing 4 lbs. of Sweets, one acid drops, one peppermint paradise, and the other mixed fruit, a quantity of brazil tfuts, six dozen Hat Guards, and 3s. 3| d. in Silver and Copper. And from a butcher's shed : the hinder part of a Sheep. Information to be given to Superintendent Hughes, Holy- well, or to Inspector McLaren, Rhyl, Flintshire.— Bow- street, July 2. On the night of the 28th ultimo the Sergison's Arms Inn, Hayward's Heath, in the parish of Cuckfield, Sussex, was entered by means of unfastening the bar window, and the following property stolen from the bar : 250 Habana and 105 Queen's Cigars, the property of Edward Fermor. Sup- posed by a man who was seen loitering about the neighbour- hood during the day, about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins. high, fair complexion, brown hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in brown suit with high black hat, and carried an umbrella. An umbrella was left under the bar window. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, July 2. Stolen from a field at Fenny Stratford, on the night of the 24th instant: a dark brown nag Mare, 14J hands high, 9 years old, a fast trotter, black legs, mane, and tail, white star on forehead, near fore shoe worn down; an old- fashioned spring Gig, painted black with a little green intermixed, seat and two cushions, drab colour ; a brown- handled Gig Whip ; a set of black Harness, brown collar with brass terrets ; and a pair of Reins, much worn; the property of Mr. Thomas Hammond, farmer. Two men passed through D. ustable about 2' 30 aUn. on the 25th imstrrot,- with a horse.' and Igig corresponding with the above, and were going in the direction of London; the men were of the following description : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, and dressed in dark clothes aud black billycock hat; the other about 21 years of age, thin, and dressed in dark clothes and black billycock hat; the clothes of both men were shabby. £ 25 reward will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Iledley, Police Station, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.— Bow- street, July 5. Stolen on the night of the 29th ultimo, from a stable and cart- house, at Whitley, near Reading : a handsome dark brown active cait Gelding, short legged, thick made, 12 or 13 years old, about 15 hands 1 inch high, a white spot on the near shoulder, rubbed by the collar ; and a set of nearly new brass- mounted Harness, brass hames and rings on the same, and cart Saddle; also a nearly new large size Spring Cart, chocolate colour, lined with red, and the name of ' Henry B. Wren, Whitley, ; on the Cart behind, with the initials ' H. B. W.' in gilt letters on side pannels and Collin's patent axles. £ 15 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the recovery and conviction « f the offender or offenders. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Berkshire, Reading.— Bow- street, July 2. Supposed stolen and left at Horncastle on the 25th ult.: a light brown nag Mare, 7 years old, 14 hands 2 inches high, black legs, white off hind fetlock, plain head, Collar and Saddle marked : also stolen a Saddle and Bridle with plated buckles. Information to be given to Superintendent Jarvis, Police Station, Horocastle, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, July 2. Stolen from a stable at Livesey, about 4 a. m. on the 28th instant: a bright bay cart Mare, about 15 hands 1 inch high, white face and hind legs, wall eye on right side, 4 years old, and in good condition ; aiao stolen a Saddle and Bridle. A man was seen riding the above mare towards Brindle, and is supposed to have gone in the direction of Ormskirk and Liverpool. Information to be given to Superintendent Read, County Police Office, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 30. Stolen from a field in Middlesborough, on the night of the 27th instant: a light brown mare Pony, aged, 13i hands high, slack backed, both hind feet white, grey about face, and has a patch of grey just above the hock of right hind leg, long thin switch tail, and in fair condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough.— Bow- street, June 30. During the night of the 27th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William Goodyer, Station- street, West Bromwich, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black velvet Jacket; a light brown cloth Jacket; a dark grey waterproof Cloak; a scarlet and black Table Cover ; two linen Table Cloths ; 4- j yards of grey dress Material ; a lady's Satchel, with Purse, containing 10s, ; a baby's drab cloth Cloak ; two pairs of Stockings ; three Chemises; and a blue Feather. Information to be given to Superintendent Woollaston, Police Office, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, June 30. Early on the morning of the 27th instant, the residence of the Chaplain of the County Gaol at Aylesbury, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of lace- up Boots, toe- capped and clumped ; four electro- plated Salt Spoons, and one Table ditto, beaded pattern ; a rump Steak, loaf of Bread, Stolen from a field at Maidenwell, near Louth, the pro- perty of G. H. Browne, Esq. : five Lambs, marked ' B' on the near side, between the 19th and 26th instant. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Lambs, shall receive £ 7 7s. reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, County Police Station, Louth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 30. LAB. CENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Coppull, about 6' 30a. m. on the 26th ult. : a Coat ( recovered) ; a black knotted witney or frieze cloth Overcoat, with black velvet collai, lined with black stuff, double- breasted; and a blue- grey woollen' Shirt, with narrow blue and | white stripes in it. By a man, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark c ® ra 2 POLICE GAZETTE. July 7 plexion, moustache, and beard ( about a fortnight's growths, and stout build ; dressed in a black velvet cap, with a tassel or button on the top and hook on the peak in front, dark monkey jacket with velvet collar, dark ribbed imitation cloth trousers, and shoes ; he is supposed to have a wound mark on left fore arm, and has stated that he served in the American army during the war. Has been in the habit of conjuring in public- houses and beer- houses, and sometimes pretends that he is deaf and dumb. Information to be given to Superintenden Beetham, County Police Office, Chorley, Lancashire.— Bow- street, July 7. Absconded sfnee the 19th instant, from Regent- street, embezzling £ 75 : OLDHAM CHARLES FAULKNER, late of 27, Weils- street, Oxford- street, 28 years of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ( slight) ; dressed respectably, and his father resides at Walton- street, Oxford. Warrant Issued,— Metropolitan Police, C Division, July 7. Stolen about 5 p. m. on the 6th instant, from a smithy at Cricklade- street, Swindon, the property of Eli Rowland : a silver Geneva Watch, seconds hand broken, minute hand loose ; and a common long guard Chain attached. By a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark com- plexion, hair, and whiskers ; dressed in a black cloth jacket and vest, dark trousers, print neektie, and soft bowler hat; had the appearance of a mechanic. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, July 7. Absconded from Pontefract, charged with stealing £ 20 in Gold, at Castleford, on the 27th ultimo : WILLIAM WEBB, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark eyes, light brown hair, slender build, flat footed, and is a navvy; dressed in a new blue pilot cloth reefer jacket, moleskin trousers, and clogs or boots. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Boshier, West Riding Con- stabulary, Pontefract, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow street, July 5. GEORGE TURNER, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd inst., charged with larceny, has been apprehended at Chatham, and committed for trfal at assizes at Winchester on the 8th inst. Information to be given to Head Constable Ross, Police Station, Newport, Isle of Wight,— Bow- street, July 5. MARTIN BROWN, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th ultimo, charged with larceny at Sandbach, has been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. MARTIN GAVIN and JAMES LYNCH are still at large, and will probably be found forking at iron forges in the north of England. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Roubottom, Con- stabulary Station, Middlewich, or to Inspector Hulrne, Constabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, July 5. Absconded from Burgess Hill, Keymer, Sussex, charged with stealing three Chickens, on the 23rd ultimo : JOHN KILLINGBACK, about 33 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, and clean shaved; dressed in dirty white short slop, velveteen waistcoat, corduroy trousers, cap, and lace- up boots. He is a native of Cobham, Kent, was some time since in the Kent County Constabulary, but lately a gamekeeper. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendsnt Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, July 5. Charged with embezzling £ 9, the monies of Henry Cooper : GEORGE SPENCER, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light complexion, light hair and whiskers, turning grey ; a baker, and dressed as such ; he is a native of Worcester. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion — Bow- street, July 5. Absconded on the 28th ultimo, charged with stealing three fleeces of Wool and a Bag, the property of his master, Mr. Charles Brown, at Mildenhall, near Marlborough: JOHN BRIGHT, a shepherd, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, thin visage, darfe hair, dirty appearance; dressed in old dark coat and vest, round felt hatj and old cord trousers, ragged at bottom ; was traced towards London on the same day. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension and conviction to Deputy Chief Constable Stretten, Marlborough, Wilis, who holds a warrant, shall be handsomely rewarded.— Bow- street, July 2. Stolen, during the night of the 28th ult., from a tailor's workshop at Tunbridge Wells : thirteen pairs of tailor's Scissors, belonging to eleven different workmen, one large pair nearly new, maker Plumb, has 3 or 4 notches on the small blade, one small pair, maker Plumb, one pair Bryan, Malton, one ditto Hurst, Brighton, and some Tidmarsh, and other makers : supposed by a tramping tailor who may dispose of them at shops where he may call for work. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, July 2. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, two Necklaces, one solitaire diamonds ( silver setting), one large Eastern amethysts ( round shaped, with diamonds, round plain gold setting); four pairs of Eardrops, one very large solitaire diamonds ( heavy gold setting, with moveable pendants, consiting of medium- sized diamonds, set in silver), one Eastern amethysts with diamonds ( to match second necklace), one pear- shaped pearls with small diamonds at top, one green enamel with pearl drops and dia- monds; two Brooches, one large diamond ( silver setting, rather oblong, with spray from the left, all diamonds, the leaves or roses having a diamond in centre), one large Eastern amethyst with diamonds ( to match second necklace); a gold Bracelet, with several leaves, set with large diamonds; a gentleman' 3 gold Pin, one very large diamond, claw setting; two large diamond Salitaires, mounted in silver or white metal on long pins for the hair; a very large Locket or Pendant, consisting of a cluster of large diamonds set in silver, with drops of three, four, or five diamond pendants, from it one drop on left missing ; a quantity of black and white Lace, consisting of Shawls, Flounces, Mantillas, & c. By Pauline a French lady's maid, between 45 and 50 years of age, 5 feet high, very thin, black hair turning grey, and dark eyes; generally dressed in dark clothes ; she is very quiet in demeanour. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Office, Metropolitan Police.— Metropolitan Police, July 2. Absconded, charged with embezzlement, ALFRED SUTTON, a miller's carter, late of Beyton : he is 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, and small whiskers ; dressed is light cord trousers, white fustian jacket and waistcoat, and cap. Information to be given to Inspector Vail, Woolpit, or to Police Constable Burrows, Beyton, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension,— Bow- street, July 2, Absconded from his lodging at Blaina, between the hours of 7 and 8 a. m. on the 23rd ultimo, charged with stealing an open face silver Geneva Watch, gold numbers on dial, No. 68,767 ; one black coat, pockets on hips, one pocket inside left breast, and velvet collar ; a black cloth Vest, no collar, taken in a little at back of neck ; black cloth Trousers, full fall, the linings opened on the seat; one light striped cloth Vest, double- breasted : two Welsh plaid flannel Shirts, © ne red ground with red and black stripes forming a square, the other, grey ground with red, black, and white stripes forming a square ; 5s. in Money ; one black bowler Hat; and a pair of elastic- side Boots ; the property of John Monkley and William Monkley : GEORGE DAVIES, alias GEORGE WILLIAMS, 23 or 24 years of age, 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins. high, proportionate makg'pale sallow complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, sinii^ gr looking; dressed in a dark cloth monkey jacket, old fight striped cloth trousers, black hard bowler hat, and elastic- side boots ; may be wearing the stolen clothes and soft Bowler hat. He is a native of Pont- vane near Brecon, a painter or stoker, or may be found working with plate- layers, or firing boilers in works. He was discharged from Usk Gaol on the 4th ultimo, having been convicted of a burglary in August, 1874, at Monmouth. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Aber- gavenny, to Superintendent Fowler, Tredegar, er to Sergeant Williams, Police Station, Blaina, Monmouthshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 2. Description of a man who has given his name RICHARD DAVIES of Lincoln, dealer, who is remanded for passing several counterfeit half- sovereigns in the neighbourhood of Wrexham : he endeavoured to make his escape when appre- hended, and in doing so threw away two other counterfeit half sovereigns : he is about 5 feet 8jr inches high, states he is 56 years of age, stoutly made, close shaven, grey hair, cut short and parted down the middle, slight scar on left side of nose ; dressed in a dark grey, small pattern check cloth suit ( when passing the coin he was dressed in a light suit), woollen plaid check shirt, elastic side boots, and hard billy- cock hat, had on him a silver watch with gold Albert chain ; he has lost two first joints of middle finger of the left hand, he has given other names, and stated that he resided at 16, Weliington- road, Liverpool.
