Description of THOMAS TIERNEY, who is charged • with causing the death of a man whilst lighting with him on the night of the 16th instant, in Sheffield : about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, very stoutly built, his nose has been broken, and has lost a portion of first right finger; he is a slater, and was dressed in dark coat and vest, cotton cord trousers, and low felt hat. He may be accompanied by a little woman, about £ 5 years of age. He is. a. native of Birmingham. Description of PATRICK McGOWAN, who absconded from the borough of Middlesborough on the 24th instant, charged with assaulting and inflicting grievous bodily harm oa one David Conway, labourer : he is 25 years of age, 5 feet 5f inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, small light whiskers and moustache, nose rather large and sharp at end, stoutly built, has a scar on left cheek, is a labourer, and a native of Leitrim, Ireland ; generally dressed in a suit of dark clothes and hard felt hat. Stolen from the person on the 23rd instant: a silver lever Watch, No. 10073, maker Metcalf, Preston, on dial. By a man, about 25 years of age, low set, swarthy com- plexion, small eyes, no whiskers, and is supposed to be a foreigner ; dressed in light grey suit, and light billycock hat. BURGLARY AMD HOUSE BREAKING. Between 6 p. m. on the 26th and 5' 30 a. m. on the 27th instant, the offices at Phoenix Mill, Blackburn, were broken and entered, and stolen therein, the property of Mr. William Shaw, manager : A silver lever Watch, chronometer balance, jewelled in every action, sunk seconds, No. 920. An American silver lever Watch, engine- turned case, white dial, blue steel fingers, makers V^ hittam and Moss ( Fogg's Patent), No. 741011 ( since recovered). A silver lever or Geneva Boston Watch, white dial, engine- turned case, blue steel fingers, sunk seconds, ; jewelled in eight holes ( since recovered). A gold Guard, open pattern, much worn. A gold Albert Guard, close pattern, 9 carats. 2 gold Seals, one with round cut glass in centre. 5 pairs of light steel Spectacles, dipped with white wax atj Constabulary, Aldershot. ends. 4 round steel Cutters. of the Chaplain of the County Gaol at Aylesbury, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of lace- up Boots, toe- capped and clumped ; four electro- plated Salt Spoons, and one Table ditto, beaded pattern ; a rump Steak, loaf of Bread, and a Bottle of Brandy. Supposed by an Irishman, a tramp, 30 years of age, 5 feet G or 7 inches high, light complexion, and small whiskers and beard ; dressed in a ragged greycoat, dirty light trousers, and billycock hat. He carries a short stick, and sings at beer- houses. Information to be given at the Police Station, Aylesbury, Bucks.— Bow- street. June 30. Stolen, on the 24th inst., by means of house- breaking : one pair of black cloth Trousers, man's size ; one pair of dark grey mixture Trousers; one pair of slate- coloured ditto, narrow stripes ; one dark mixture tweed Overcoat; one pair of Levant Boots, elastic sides, nearly new; two white felt Hats; one ladies'black velvet Jacket; one trimmed with beaver fur ; one large size silver plated Teapot; one small silver Cruet; two pairs of silver sugar Tongs, one quite new, the other part worn, marked I. S. R. ; two dozen silver Tea- spoons, one dozen marked I. S. R.; four Table Spoons ; two children's silver- plated Mugs ; two dozen plated Forks ; two Salt Spoons ; one small Telescope ; and a pair of Opera Glasses ; two dozen ivory- hafted Knives ; and one dozen with fluted handles. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Hunt, Central Police Office, Town Hall, Leeds.— Boio- street, June 28. The dwelling- house of James S. Gower, of Hook, near Odiharn, Hants, was entered between 2 and 4 p. m. on the 22ud iustant ( the race day), by means of picklock), and the following property stolen therein : a Cream Pot and two Table Spoons, silver, marked ' V.'; a Ladle, four Dessert and four Tea Spoons, silver; two large plated Brooches ; a small gold to"; a lady's gold Watch Chain ; a gold Locket, con- taining Hair, with a Guinea attached; two Necklaces; about £ 2 in Silver ; aud a pair of gold wire Bracelets, 1 inch wide, the snap of one broken and repaired with yellow thread. Two men of the following description wera - seen on the premises about the time the offence was committed : one about 40 years of age, tall, stoutly built, sandy whiskers, and dressed in dark cloth jacket and high- crowned hat; the other was 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, thin pale face, small light whiskers, and was wearing a dark speckled cloth jacket. Also stolen, during the afternoon of the same day, in the dwelling- house of George Wiudle, of North Warnborougb, | Odiham, which was entered by a skeleton key: two silver Table Spoons; six silver Tea Spoons, five marked ' G. M. L.', the other ' G. M. P.'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' G. M. L.'; and a gold Watch Chain, curb pattern. By THOMAS FIDDLER, who is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 3J inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, Description of CHARLES FIRTH, a butcher, charged blue eyes, proportionate make, tattooed on one wrist, ears uttering a forged Cheque, for £ 7 15s., and who has also: pierced; dressed in dirk ribbed cloth coat and vest, light uttered the following forged cheques : No. 128101, Leicester, I plain or tweed trousers, Scotch cap, and shoes ; has been a June 19, 1875, the Leicestershire Banking Company, pay soldier, and is a returned convict; has worked at ironworks, Mr. Nichols cr bearer £ 16, signed J. Information to be given to Superintendent Hughes, Holy- well, or to Inspector McLaren, Rhyl, Flintshire.— Bow- street, July 2, On the night of the 28 th ultimo the Sergison's Arms Inn, Stolen from the person by a fellow- lodger whilst sleeping Hayward's Heath, in the parish of Cuckfield, Sussex was ! rvntbnildinrr at Laceby Farm. Standedge 1* 1 ?^ red by means of unfastening the bar window and the following property stolen from the bar : 250 Habana and 105 Queen's Cigars, the property of Edward Fermor. Sup- posed by a man who was seen loitering about the neighbour- hood during the day, about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins. high, fair complexion, brown hair, whiskers and moustache ; dressed in brown suit with high black hat, and carried an umbrella. An umbrella was left under the bar window. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex.— Bow- street, July 2. in an outbuilding at Laceby Farm, Standedge, between 12 and 4 a. m. on the 25th instant ; a silver lever Watch, No. 4,010, maker's name Rodolph, London, had white dial, sunk seconds, and steel hands; attached was a gold plated Albert Guard, snake pattern, and a Locket, bible pattern; pair of watertight Boots, newly heeled, right boot toe- bitted and fastened on with clog nails, and the left one worn off at the toe. By a tramp, a winder in a cotton mill, who was hay- making on the farm, about 33 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, sallow complexion, pimpled nose, from drink, blue eyes, short dark hair, moustache, and slender build; dressed in dark cloth coat and vest, dirty moleskin trousers, all much worn, billycock hat, and wearing the stolen boots; has worked in mills in the neighbourhood of Oldham, Ashton, and Stalybridge. Information to be given to Inspector Whincup, West Riding Constabulary, Saddle worth, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 30. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, when in a railway - train between York and Thirsk, on the 18th instant : a gold Watch, N, o. 1804, with gold Albert attached. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire,— Bow- stwet, June 28, During the night of the 27th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William Goodyer, Station- street, West Bromwich, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a black velvet Jacket; a light brown cloth Jacket; a dark grey waterproof Cloak; a scarlet and black Table Cover ; two linen Table Cloths ; yards of grey dress Material ; a lady's Satchel, with Purse, containing 10s. ; a baby's drab cloth Cloak ; two pairs of Stockings ; three Chemises; and a blue Feather. Information to be given to Superintendent Woollaston, Police Office, West Bromwich, Staftordshire.— Bow- street, June 30. Early oa the morning of the 27th instant, the residence HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING: Found at Ditton Priors, Salop, on the 1st instant, and supposed to be stolen : a rough light blown mare Donkey, in foal, and unshod. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Police Constable Hughes, Ditton Priors, Salop.— Bow- street, July 5. Stolen from a field at Fenny Stratford, on the night of the 24th instant : a dark brown nag Mare, 14J hands high, 9 years old, a fast trotter, black legs, mane, and tail, white star on forehead, near fore shoe worn down ; an old- fashioned spring Gig, painted black with a little green intermixed, seat and two cushions, drab colour ; a brown- handled Gig Whip ; a set of black Harness, brown collar with brass terrets ; and a pair of Reins, much worn; the property of Mr. Thomas Hammond, farmer. Two men passed through Dunstable about 2' 30 a. m. on the 25th instant, with a horse and fgig corresponding with the above, and were going iu the direction of Loudon ; the men were of the following description : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, and dressed in dark clothes aud black billycock hat; the other about 21 years of age, thin, aud dressed in dark clothes and black billycock hat; the clothes of both men were shabby. £ 25 reward will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Hedley, Police Station, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.— Box- street, July 5. Stolen on the night of the 29th ultimo, from a stable and cart- house, at Whitley, near Reading : a handsome dark brown active cait Gelding, short legged, thick made, 12 or 13 years old, about 15 bauds 1 inch high, a white spot on the near shoulder, rubbed by the collar ; and a set of nearly new brass- mounted Harness, brass liames and rings on the same, and cart Saddle; also a nearly new large size Spring Cart, chocolate colour, lined with red, and the name of ' Henry B. Wren, Whitley, on the Cart behind, with the initials ' H. B. W.' in gilt letters on side pannels and Collin's patent axles. £ 15 reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the recovery and conviction ® f the offender or offenders. Supposed stolen and left at Horncastle on the 25th ult.: a light brown nag Mare, 7 years old, 14 hands 2 inches high, black legs, white off hind fetlock, plain head. Tunbridge Wells, Kent .- Bow- street, July 2. A man was seen riding the above mare towards Brindle, and is supposed to h ave gone in the direction of Ormskirk and Liverpool. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, County Police Office, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- sit eet, June 30. Stolen from a field in Middlesborough, on the night of the 27th instant : a light brown mare Pony, aged, 13| hands high, slack backed, both hind feet white, grey about face, and has a patch of grey just above the hock of right hind leg, long thin switch tail, and in fair condition. Iuformation to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middlesborough— Bow- street, June 30. Stolen from a field at Maidenwell, near Louth, the pro- perty of G. H. Browne, Esq. : five Lambs, marked ' B' 01} the near side, between the 19th and 26th instant. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Lambs, shall receive £ 7 7s. reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, County Police Station, Louth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 30. Stolen from a field in the borough of Walsall, during the night of the 22nd instant, a bright bay half- bred Horse, 15 hands high, aged, lame in right foot, and in good condi- tion ; and a dark brown Pony, 13 hands high, aged, in good condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Police Office, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., June 28. Stolen from Whitley Common, near Coventry, on the 10th instant: a dark brown Pony, about 12 hands higb, short bushy mane, black lpgs, bang tail, white mark on back, and two small white marks on back of fore legs. Whoever will give such information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the pony shall receive £ 2 reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Palmer, Kenilworth, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen on the 19th instant, from a field at Highbury Hill : a dark grey Russian mare Pony, 3 years old, 13 hands high, long tail, off hiud hock white, carries its head forward, and shore nose. Supposed by a man dressed in dark clothes. — Metropolitan Police, Y Division, June 28. Stolen from a stable at Stanhope Nursery, Cudham, during the night of the 24th instant : a grey Mare, 16 hands high, 6 years old, scar on near shoulder, bruised on both hocks, outside of near hoek- bone a little thick, and tail cut square. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, June 28.. Stolen from a fold on Poulton Farm, near Marlborough, the property of Mr. John Tanner, between the 8th and 18th instant: 33 Ewes, some four and six- tooth, and others full- mouthed, not shorn, marked ' T,' either on the near shoulder, side, or hip, and some on the off side ; also 39 Chilver Tegs, not shorn, marked ' T ' on the near hip. Whoever will ^ ive such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the sheep, shall receive £ 100 reward. Stolen on the 28 th ultimo, two Necklaces, one solitaire diamonds ( silver setting), one large Eastern amethysts ( round shaped, with diamonds, round plain gold setting) ; four pairs of Eardrops, one very large solitaire diamonds ( heavy gold setting, with moveable peudants, consiting of medium- sized diamonds, set in silver), one Eastern amethysts with diamonds ( to match second necklace), one pear- shaped pearls with small diamonds at top, one green enamel with pearl drops and dia- monds; two Brooches, one large diamond ( silver setting, rather oblong, with spray from the left, all diamonds, the leaves or roses having a diamond in centre), one large Eastern amethyst with diamonds ( to malich second necklace) ; a gold Bracelet, with several leaves, set with large diamonds ; a gentleman's gold Pin, one very large diamond, claw setting ; two large diamond Sslitaires, mounted in silver or white metal on long pins for the hair; a very large Locket or PeDdant, consisting of a cluster of large diamonds set iu silver, with drops of three, four, or five diamond pendants, from it one drop on left missing ; a quantity of black and white Lace, consisting of Shawls, Flounces, Mantillas, & c. By Pauline — , a Frerch lady's maid, between 45 and 50 years of age, 5 feet high, very thin, black hair turning grey, and dark eyes ; generally dressed in dark clothes ; She is very quiet in demeanour. Absconded, charged with embezzlement, ALFRED SUTTON, a miller's carter, late of Beyton : he is 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light complexion, light brown hair, and small whiskers ; dressed is light cord trousers, white fustian jacket and waistcoat, and cap. Information to be given to Inspector Vail, Woolpit, or to Police Constable Burrows, Beyton, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, July 2. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). Stolen about 10 p. m. the 19th instant, from the vault of a public- house in Deansgate, Manchester : a little Girl, named LIZZIE SMITH, 2f years of age ; dressed in brown stuff frock, trimmed at the bottom with puce and at the waist with fringe, a scarlet petticoat, a brown ditto, with red cloth at the bottom, a white flannel ditto with three tucks, faded red and puce striped socks and clogs, a link of red beads round the neck ; and has gold sleepers in her ears. By a man about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, promi- nent nose, with blue mark across it, a tuft of reddish hair on, the chin, rather weak eyes, has a mark on one side of neck, and stoops a little ; dressed in a black cloth suit, and cap with tassel at top. He belongs tc Oldham, and goes by the name of RAT. Information to be given to the Chief Con- stable, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, June 25, LAEC1IY AMD IMBJS221EMEIS. Absconded from Pontefract, charged with stealing £ 20 in Gold, at Castleford, on the 27th ultimo : WILLIAM WEBB, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark eyes, light brown hair, slender build, flat footed, and is a navvy; dressed in a new blue pilot cloth reefer jacket, moleskin trousers, and clogs or boots. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Boshier, West Riding Con- stabulary, Pontefract, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion,— Bow street, July 5. GEORGE TURNER, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 2nd inst., charged with larceny, has been apprehended at Chatham, and committed for trial at assizes at Winchester on the 8th inst. Information to be given to Head Con table Ross, Police Station, Newport, Isle of Wight.— Bow- street, July 5. MARTIN BROWN, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th ultimo, charged with larceny at Sandbach, has been sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. MARTIN GAVIN and JAMES LYNCH are still at large, and will probably be found working at iron forges in the north of England. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Roubottom, Con- stabulary Station, Middlewich, or to Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, July 5. Absconded from Burgess Hill, Keymer, Sussex, charged with stealing three Chickens, on the 23rd ultimo : JOHN KILLINGBACK, about 33 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, and clean shaved ; dressed in dirty white short slop, velveteen waistcoat, corduroy trousers, cap, and lace- up boots. He is a native of Cobham, Kent, was some time since in the Kent County Constabulary, but lately a gamekeeper. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendsnt Pocock, Cuckfield, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, July 5.
