Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably neassary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, nil letters addressed to the Editor must l? e prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. Description of PATRICK McGOWAN, who absconded from the borough of Middlesborough on the 24th instant, charged with assaulting and inflicting grievous bodily harm j oa. one David Conway, labourer : he is 25 years of age, 5 feet • 6f inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, small light whiskers and moustache, nose rather large and sharp at end, stoutly huilt, has a scar on left cheek, is a labourer, and a native of Leitrim, Ireland; generally dressed in a suit of Stolen from the person on the' 21st instant, at Stourport Fete and Races : a silver open- face lever Watch, maker William Cooke, Stourport, No. 1126. Information to be given to Superintendent Raby, Stourport, Worcestershire.— Bw- street, June 25. Stolen from the person at Henley Regatta, on the 23rd instant: A black leather double Field Glass, maker' Elliot, Lon- don.' A reward of £ 1 will be paid on its recovery and conviction of the offender. A gold hunting Watch, engraved flowers on one side of case, a place for crest to be engraved, maker's name ' Catherwood, London.' Stolen from the person of Henry Sambrook, on the 15th instant, at the Talbot Inn, Hay, Breconshire : a small- sized silver lever Watch, nearly new, with seconds hand, No. 8724, open face, double back, engine- turned, capped and jewelled, and a silver guard Chain attached. Gower, oi Hook, near 9 inches high, swarthy complexion, rather hollow cheeks, long Odiham, Hants, was entered between 2 and 4 p. m. on the ' upper teeth, very prominent when he smiles, blue eyes, brown instant ( the race day), by means of picklock), and the hair, whiskers, and moustache, proportionate figure, married, residence— Foggy Furze, West Hartlepool; dressed in a grey cloth thooting coat, vest and trousers of tlie same material, and soft black hat; carried with him a brown leather port- manteau and a black satchel. £ 50 reward. Absconded on the 12th ultimo, charged on a warrant with forgery : ROBERT GORDON COLEMAN, late of No. 3, Ravensworth - terrace, Fulham, 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 iuches high, dark hair, sallow complexion, small moustache, and false front teeth; dressed respectably. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, when in a railway train between York and Thirsk, on the 18th instant : a gold Watch, No. 1804, with gold. Albert attached. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire.— Boio- street, June 28. Stolen from the person on the 23rd instant: a silver lever Watch, No. 10073, maker Metcalf, Preston, on dial. By a man, about 25 years of age, low set, swarthy com plexion, small eyes, no whiskers, and is supposed to be a foreigner ; dressed in light grey suit, and light billycock hat. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen from the person at Henley Railway Station, on the 23rd instant : a gold Watch, No. 376, maker Desbois, London. Information to be given to Superintendent Coates, Henley- on- Thames, Oxon.— Bow- street, June 28. following property stolen therein: a Cream Pot and two Table Spoons, silver, marked 1 V.'; a Ladle, four Dessert and four Tea Spoons, silver ; two large plated Brooches ; a small gold to; a lady's gold Watch Chain; a gold Locket, con- taining Hair, with a Guinea attached; two Necklaces; about £ 2 in Silver ; and a pair of gold wire Bracelets, 1 inch wide, the snap of one broken and repaired with yellow thread. Two men of the following description were seen ou the premises about the time the offence was committed : one about 40 years of age, tall, stoutly built, sandy whiskers, and dressed in dark cloth jacket and liigh- crowned. hat; the other was 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, thin pale face, small light whiskers, and was wearing a dark speckled cloth jacket. Also stolen, during the afternoon of the same day, in the dwelling- house of George Windle, of North Warnborougb, Odiham, which was entered by a skeleton key: two silver Table Spoons; six silver Tea Spoons, five marked ' G. M. L.', the other ' G. M. P.'; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, marked ' G. M. L.'; and a gold Watch Chain, curb pattern. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen between 12 midnight and 6 a. m., on the 17th inst., by means of burglary : two silver cups, viz. one large size with two handles, and inscription, as follows, " Presented to Edward Winship by a few friends for his honest and manly conduct as an oarsman, April 12, 1874"; the other, smaller size, with two handles, plain made, no inscription on it. The dwelling- house of Mr. Jarvis Shelton of Ettingshall, near Bilston, was entered by thieves during the night of the 13th inst., and the following property stolen therefrom : one pair of ladies' elastic side Boots, nearly new; two pairs of ditto, with toe caps, much worn ; • one pair of men's low Shoes, elastic sides nearly new ; one pair of ditto elastic side Boots, much worn ; one pair of boys' ditto ; one pair of ditto lace- up Boots with eyelet holes ( nearly new) ; one pair of men's light blucher Shoes, nearly new ; one pair of ehilds' HQBMB AMD CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field in the borough of Walsall, during the night of the 22nd instant, a bright bay half- bred Horse, 15 hands high, aged, lame in right foot, and in good condi- tion ; and a dark brown Pony, 13 hands high, aged, in good condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Police Office, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- st., June 28. Stolen from Whitley Common, near Coventry, on the 10th instant: a dark brown Pony, about 12 hands high, short bushy mane, black legs, bang tail, white mark on back, and two small white marks on back of fore legs. Whoever will give such information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the pony shall receive £ 2 reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Palmer, Kenilworth, Warwickshire.— J3ow- street, June 28. Stolen from a field at Aldwark Manor Farm, on the 23rd or 24th instant : a light roan- coloured Heifer, about 2 years old, of the pure short horn breed, the property of Major Cochrane. If stolen, a reward of £ 5 will be given to any person giving information to lead to the recovery of the beifer, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Informa- tion to be given to the Superintendent of Police, North Riding Constabulary, Heworth, or to Inspector Ellerby, Easingwold, - Yorkshire.— Bovi- street, June 28. Stolen on the 19th instant, from a field at Highbury Hill : a dark grey Russian mare Pony, 3 years old, 13 hands high, long tail, off hind hock white, carries it3 head forward, and shore nose. Supposed by a man dressed in dark clothes. — Metropolitan Police, Y Division, June 28. Stolen from a stable at Stanhope Nursery, Cudham, during the night of the 24th instant : a grey Mare, 16 hands high, 6 years old, scar on near shoulder, bruised on both hocks, outside of near hock- bone a little thick, and tail cut square. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen from a field at Fenny Stratford, on the night of the 24th instant : a dark brown nag Mare, 14J- hands high, 9 years old, a fast trotter, black legs, mane, and tail, white star on forehead, near fore shoe worn down; an old- fashioned spring Gig, painted black with a little green intermixed, seat and two cushions, drab colour ; a brown- bandied Gig Whip ; a set of black Harness, brown collar with brass terrets ; and a pair of Reins, much worn; the property of Mr. Thomas Hammond, farmer. Two men passed through Dunstable about 2' 30 a. m. on the 25th instant, with a horse and fgig corresponding with the above, and were going in the direction of London ; the men were of the followiag description : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout, and dressed in dark clothes at- d black billycock hat; the other about § 1 years of age, thin, and dressed in dark clothes and black billycock hat; the clothes of both men were shabby. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person who will give such infor- mation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Hedley, Police Station, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.— Bow- street, June 28, Stolen from a fold on Poulton Farm, near Marlborough, the property of Mr. John Tanner, between the 8th and 18th instant : 33 Ewes, some four and six- tooth, and others full- mouthed, not shorn, marked ' T,' either on the near shoulder, side, or hip, and some on the off side ; also 39 Chilver Tegs, not shorn, marked ' T' on the near hip. Whoever will ^ ive such information as shall lead to the apprehension and con- viction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the sheep, shall receive £ 100 reward. Information to be given to Mr. Tanner, or to Deputy Chief Constable Stretten, Marl- borough, Y, 7ilts.— Bow- street, June 25. Stolen from a field at East Moulsey, during the night of the 14th instant :* a bay Cob Horse, chipped knees, grey hairs on face, scar on left cheek, in good condition, and a mahogany villiage Cart, new shafts, wheels varaished, and a set of plated silver mounted Harness. By two mea, one 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, liair, whiskers, and moustache, and stoutly built; the other is 20 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion, small dark mous- tache. Both were dressed in ribbed coat and trousers, and soft felt hats, having the appearance of gipsey horse dealers. — Metropolitan Police, V Division, June 25. A red shorthorn Bullock, fat, worth £ 25, and having ' Lot 93 ' stuck on the rump, disappeared fi om the sale yard of Messrs. Rainbird and Son on the night of the 16th instant, and is supposed to have been stolen. Information to be given to Head Constable Hibberd, Basingstoke, Hants.— Bow- street, June 23. Description of a man charged with Cattle Stealing, at Sheffield, on the 17th instant, the Cattle since recovered ; he POLICE GAZETTE. Description o£ a man cVjj- ged with stealing a Mare ( since recovered) on the 9th infant:: about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, thvn face, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers, and small sore eyes; dressed in a dark cloth cap ( peak), dark cloth coat, and cord trousers. Information to be given to the County Police, Spittlegate, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 21. XAMEIY AMD EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a barn on the South Brink, Wisbech, early on the 16th instant: six fleeces of Lincoln Wool, which were sold at Boston the same day, and have been recovered. By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, little or no whiskers, full face, cheeks rather sunken; dressed in velveteen, or a rusty- coloured monkey cloth jacket, cotton cord trousers, and rough cap with straight peak; he appears to be well acquainted with the price of wool, and can be identified. Information to be given to Superintendent Sharpe, Borough Police, Wisbech, Cambs.— Bow- street, June 28. Stolen from the Northern Hotel, about 6 p. m. on the 22nd instant: a brown tweed dust Coat. By a man, about 20 years ® f age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, short dark brown hair, dark complexion; dressed in fustian jacket and trousers, wears a short white slop underneath the jacket, strong navvy boots, and carried a canvas bag, which appeared to contain clothes ; he was traced to Murrow, Cambridgeshire, thence to Wisbeach; it is believed that be is a native of near Wisbeach. Information to be given to Superintendent Leaper, County Police Station, Spalding, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, June 28. Description of GEORGE TURNER,, who absconded on the 15th instant, charged with stealing £ 2 Cash, four Pocket Handkerchiefs, and other articles, from a box iu a fellow- lodger's room : 27 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, dark hazel eyes, tattooed with the maiks— cross flags, ' C. T. 18,' underneath left arm, ' E. K.' on left wrist, anchor on left hand, five blue dots between finger and thumb, and rings on three fingers of left hand, scars on back of neck, and a hole in left cheek. He was discharged from Parkhurst Priscn on licence the 20th April last; was sentenced to 7 years penal servitude at Chelmsford on the 21st October, 1869, for burglary; has been a soldier, and will probably seek employment as a navvy on railways. Information to be given to Head Constable Ross, Borough Police Station, Newport, Isle of Wight, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 25. Absconded, charged with having, at Ely, on the 14th Jan. last, embezzled £ 79 18s. 6d., the monies of Cornell Fison, and others, merchants, of Thetford, Norfolk; CRANE GOLDSMITH, a merchant's clerk, beta een 45 and 50 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, short behind, bald on top of head, large brown whiskers and mous- tache, has two false front teeth fastened in with gold wire, which can be seen when he speaks ; he walks in a bustling manner, and swings his right arm very much. He took tiain at Brandon on the 18th instant, and passed through Ely, going towards London; he is likely to emigrate, having formerly lived in America; he has relatives at Clapham Common, Camberwell, and in Hertfordshire, and he is known in market towns in Herts, Essex, Cambs, Norfolk, and Suffolk. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person giving such information to Superintendent Snii: h, Ely, Cambridgeshire, as will lead to his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 25. Description of SAMUEL WELLDEN, a tailor, charged with stealing a silk Umbrella, two soft felt Hats. 18 yards of tweed Cloth, thirty- two pairs of kid Gloves, and a quantity Wearing Apparel ( since recovered) : he is about 27 yeara of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light complexion, light short hair and whi& kers, slight moustache, full eyes, slight make, talks quickly, and with a Yankee accent, having been in America; dressed in a dark morning coat and vest, light Cheviot tweed trousers, patent leather spring- side boots with ivory buttons, hard felt hat, striped Oxford shirt, and scarf, black ground with a small white spot; he may apply to first- class tailors for employment. £ 5 reward. Information to be given to Superintendent Lakin, Police Station, Chipping Norton, Oxon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, June 25. Description of ERNEST ENGLAND, who has absconded from Portsmouth, charged with felony : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, small light whiskers, full face ; dressed in black cloth walking coat, trimmed with black braid, dark grey vest and trousers, black felt hat with high crown, and blue silk necktie with white spots, all of which articles are stolen. He is also charged with stealing an open- faced silver Watch, with engine turned case and gold hands; a silver Albert Chain; and a gold Pin, set with blue stones and a red stone in the centre. He is a painter, and will doubtless seek employment at his trade. Information to be given to Head Constable Barber, Portsmouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.-— Bow- street, June 23. Description of a domestic servant wanted in this borough, charged with stealing £ 2, the property of her master, on the 21st instant: she is about 18 years of age, 4 feet 5| inches high, sallow complexion, brown eyes, dark hair, slender, and evil marks under each jaw; dresssd_, when last seen, in an old black dress. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Saggerson, Middlesbrough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 23, Stolen from the dwelling- house of Wm. Josiah Mitchell, at Dartford, on the 20th instant: two Sovereigns, a glazier's Diamond, and a dark blue ribbed cloth Coat, pockets at hips. By a man who had lodged in the house three or four da) s : he is about 33 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light sandy whiskers and moustache, has lost nearly ail his front teeth, andjis a painter; dressed in the stolen coat, nearly new light mixture cloth trousers, double- breasted black vest, black the front, except the top one Supposed by a tramping labeurer, who was in the shop the same day : about 40 years cf age, abou. 1 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, and sandy whiskers; dressed in dark coat, old corduroy trousers, round hard felt hat, and lace- up shoes tied with string. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement : CHRISTO- PHER BAINTON, clerk, late of 11, Camden- viilas, Grove- street, South Hackney, 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slender build, dark complexion, very dark hair, eyes, beard, aud moustache ; and THOMAS FELL, a clerk, late of No. 24, Coborn- street, Bow- road, from 30 to 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout, florid complexion, dark hair ( rather bald), beard, and moustache. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. — Bow- street, June 23. The whole o£ the property stolen from the house of Peter Bailey, of Sandbach, has been recovered.
