Wotice.— It ia requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. Stolen from the person at Newport pleasure fair, about p. m. on the 28th. inst., a patent silver lever Watch, No. 57027, no maker's name, sunk Seconds, open face, and capped. £ 1 reward will be paid on its recovery and con- viction of the offender or offenders. Stolen from the perscn of William Castree on the 18th instant, at Ludford Park: a silver lever Watch, No. 5735, maker's name Edwin Bolt, Redditch. Information to be given to Superintendent Dykes, Leominster, Herefordshire. — Bow- street, May 31. FORGERY. Description of a man who on the 21st ultimo, under the pretence of purchasing a pianoforte, tendered a forged cheque for £ 50, drawn on Lacon's Bank, Halesworth, and signed E. K. Lacon, and received a cheque for the balance, ,£ 25, from a pianoforte manufacturer in Oxford : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers, and hair, cut short; dressed in blaek clothes and silk hat. He represented himself to be the rector < sf a parish a few miles from Oxford, and is supposed to be the same person as described in the Police Gazette of 27th March and 28th April last, charged with similar offences at Great Yarmouth and Cambridge. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Police Office, Oxford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, June 2. Charged on a sheriff's warrant with having on the 27th ultimo, at a bank in Glasgow, obtained £ 90, by means of a forged cheque : ANDREW NISBET, a clerk, about 25 yrs. of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair, small dark whiskers and moustache, chin clean shaved, and dark complexion; dressed in dark suit. He is of genteel appearance, speaks with a Scotch accent, and talked about going abroad. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Brown, Glasgow.— Bow- street, June 2. FELOHIES. ( Not otherwise described). Description' o£ GEORGE GRAHAM, charged on a warrant with having on the 17th November, 1874, feloniously forged a certain acceptance of a certain Bill of Exchange for the payment of £ 175 10s. : he is from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 to 6 inches high, dark brown Jhair, inclined to curl, dark brown whiskers all round his face, no moustache, hazel eyes, has a peculiarity Tabout his eyes as i£ an operation had been performed upon him for squinting, fresh complexion, and ordinary nose and mouth; generally dresses in black frock coat, coloured trousers, and high blaek hat, and had a slovenly appearance; is a native of Felling, county of Durham, and up to last December was a ship- broker in New- castle. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Detective Department, Newcastle- on- Tyne. — Bow- street, June 7. Absconded on the 24th ultimo, charged a warrant with forgery of Bills, amounting to £ 2,475, BENJ. ARCHER POTTER, lately a drysalter in Queen- street, Glasgow : he is 31 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 iuches high, ordinary make, fair complexion and hair, rather red whiskers, beard, and mous- tache ( full grown), and bald forehead ; dresses generally in a black surtout coat and dress hat; he is a native of Batley, Yorkshire. Information to be given to Chief Constable McCall, or to Deputy Chief Constable Brown, Glasgow, Lan- arkshire.— Bm- slreet, June 7. BURGLARY AID HOUSE BREAKING. Between 3 and 5' 30 a. m. on the 3rd inst., the dwelling- house of Mr. James Rothwell, licensed victualler, Crown Inn, Copy Nook, Blackburn, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a lady's gold lever Watch, gold dial, seconds hand, No. 16555, had a gold Guard, small chain pattern, attached ; a silver lever Watch, white dial, seconds hand, maker J. Ainsworth, Blackburn, No. 54582, with a fine silver Guard attached ; also 8s. or 9s. in silver and copper Money. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Police Office, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- it., June 7, Stolen in the borough of Shrewsbury, by means of house- breaking, on the 31st ultimo : a lady's gold consular Geneva Watch, No. 30736, gold dial, and gold Albert Chain attached; a silver English lever Watch, open face ; a p^ r of gold. Eye- glasses ; an old silver Watch, No. 784, m^ er John Kirk, London ; a plated Albert; a steel ditto ; and about £ 50 in Gold. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, June 4. Early on the morning of the lst instant, a dwelling- house at Dunchurch, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver Geneva Watch, single case, white dial, no seconds hand, engraved back with plain shield in centre, had attached a brass Key, with ' Barilla Farnham,' thereon ; a pair of common black Ear- rings, have been repaired ; ten nickel silver Spoons, six Tea, four Table ; eight Pocket Knives, containing several Blades, Cork Screws, & c.; a Chemise, a Night Dress, a pair of Drawers, a Bodice, all marked ' M. Butler,' in front; two baby's white Petticoats ; four white brilliant and three diaper Pinafore3 ; two Shirts and three Night Dresses, children's ; two white linen Aprons ; two white Table Cloths ; four Chamber Towels; and six Tea Cloths. Supposed by two tramps. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Jervis, Rugby, Warwick- shire.— Bow- street, June 2. Between 10 p. m. the 21th and 5 a. m. the 25th ultimo, a dwelling- house at High- lane, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a dark brown Overcoat, brown velvet collar, double- breasted, three pockets outside, two on the right side, one on the left, and one inside left breast, brown covered buttons, and much worn ; a boy's blue pilot Overcoat, black velvet collar, lined with bright scarlet plaid, and black bone buttons, nearly new ; a woollen scarf Shawl, black and white plaid, nearly new; 35 yards of black Silk; a ftii'l's Jacket, imitation sealskin, lined with black satin, and much worn ; a Writing Desk, made of light brown polished wood, inlaid with brass round the edge of the lid, and a plate iu centre about 14 inches by 7 inches ; two £ 5 Bank of England Notes ; and about £ 5 in Gold and Silver. 203. reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Lawton, County Police Station, Stockport, Cheshire.— Bow- street, June 2. hat, aud clogs; he passed through the Barnsdale toll- bar with the horse, at 1 a. m on the 31st ultimo. Information to be given to Superintendent Astwood, West Riding Consta- bulary, Doncaster.— Bow- street, June 7. Stolen during the night of the 26th ultimo, from a field at Greenford- green : a black Gelding, 5 years old, 16 hands high, long mane, bang tail, and no hind shoes.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, June 7. Description of two men charged with stealing a Cow ( recovered) from Handley, in the parish of Staveley, on the 22ud ultimo : one about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, dark hair, slight dark whiskers, no moustache, fresh com- plexion, thin features, and slender built; dressed in black cloth jacket and vest, dirty grey cloth trousers, and black cloth cap ; had the appearance of a collier. The other about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown or sandy hair, very slight sandy whiskers, no moustache, thin features, and slender build; dressed in a suit of brown cloth, with small white spots in it, and black billycock hat; had the appearance of a farmer or cattle dealer. Infoimation to be given to Superiutendent Carline, County Police Office, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, June 4. Description of a man who gave the name of WILLIAM GULLY, of Clifton, Bristol, charged with obtaining by false pretences from George Goddard, a Horse, by givirg a fictitious cheque in paywnent at Binegar Fair, on the 19th instant: about 60 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, and grey bushy whiskers; dressed in a suit of black, with black high hat, large pattern gold Guard, with large locket, wore gold Spectacles, and appears to be deaf. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Somerset Constabulary, Glastonbury, or to Sergeant Vowles, Wells, Somerset.— Bow- street, May 31. Further information and description of two men charged on - warrants with stealing t A'o Ponies from Lazenby and Yearby, near Redcar, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, on the night of the 13th instant, both natives of Essex, but have been at Marske- by- the- Sea, for a considerable time, working in the ironstone mines, and may seek similar employment, or in coal pits or public works. They have a'iso been in the habit of attending horse sales and dealing in old horses. The Trap they took away with them from Marske has since been returned : EDWARD HARTGROVE, alias PIGEON COTE NED, who left his wife behind, is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8j inches high, dark hair and whiskers, inclined to stoop, and turns his feet outwards, andis well known at Romford ; generally dressed in green checked trousers, black cloth coat, and cap with double peaks. He is a native of Ongar, near Romford, Essex. And WILLIAM ALLEN, about 30 years of age, 5 feet io inches liigb, or 5 feet 11 inches, slender build, fresh complexion, rather good - looking, light hair and moustache, and no whiskers; generally dressed in dark blue coat and vest, and black trousers, or in a suit of black, and velvet cap. Left his wife at Marske. He is a native o£ Chad well or Chadwellheath, Essex. A third man is supposed to be in their company about 30 years of age," 5 feet C or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, and light whiskers all round the chin; dressed in dark clothes and black hard felt hat. Hartgrove and Allen were seen at Rosley Hill Fair, Cum- berland, on the 17th instant, dealing with the two Ponies, The brown one was sold, and has since been recovered. The grey pony is still missing. It is 14 hands 2 inches high, ( mot 13 hands high as before- stated.) Information to be given to Superintendent Priest, Guis- borough, or to Sergeat Kitching, South Eston, Middlesbro', Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 31. ROBBERY MB LARCEK'Y FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the 4th instant, at Eton : ' a silver Geneva Watch, maker Benson, Bond- street, London, coloured figures on face ; a small gold Geneva hunting Watch, marked on back ' A. L. N.'; a silver half hunting Watch, keyless, crest on back, and engine- turned ; a gold Watch, maker Le Roy and Fils, marked ' E. L.' on back, No. 47678, and gold Chain attached, Locket, with portrait, and marked ' A. J. E.'; and a silver hunting Wateh, with initials on front ' R. P.,' silver Chain, and silver Compass attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or to Inspector Pearman, Eton College, Bucks.— Bow- street, June 7, Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the borough of Sunderland, on the night of the 2nd instant : a gold lever HORSE AID CATTLE STEALING. Description of CHARLES MOLE, a labourer, who has absconded from Portsmouth, charged with horse- stealing. He is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes with a cast in both, dark complexiou, head inclines to one side ; dressed in black billycock hat, white slop, cord trousers, and heavy lace- up boots. Information to be given to Head Constable Barber, Portsmouth, Hants, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boio- street, June 7. Stolen from a stable on the Burford- road, near Chipping Norton, Oxon, on the night of the 28th ultimo : a brown mare Pony, about 13 hands high, aged, has a cut in one ear, long tail, and walks a little stiff behind. The property of Edward Skey, dealer, Chipping Norton, Oxon. Information to be given to Superintendent Lakin, County Police Station, Chipping Norton, Oxon.— Bow- street, June 7. Stolen between 9' 30 p. m. on the 30th, and 3' 30 a. m. on the 3- lst ultimo, from a field at Bentley- with- Arksey, near Dencaster, the property of Thomas Clark, cattle dealer : a brown Gelding, about 14 hands high, aged, black legs, tuft of hair on both knees, from being down, switch tail, rather slack backed, and in low condition. By a man, about 35 years of Further information respecting the Pony stolen from Yange Rectory ( as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26th instant) : the pony was 14 instead of 13 hands high, off hind foot white, and not the near hind foot, as previously stated, lias a scar on near hind fetlock joint, and a scar on off fore fetlock joint, cut by the shoe. Information to be given at the Police Station, Southend, Essex,— Bow- street, May 31. Watch, No. 42120, has a small piece chipped off the dial near, age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, and stoat built; the figure ' 12,' had attached a gold albert curb Chain and a j dressed in black cloth coat, cord trousers, black soft billycock LARGELY AMD EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement: BERESFORD LOVETT JONES, late of 35, St. Mary- square, Kennington, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, stoops a little, fresh colour, hair turning grey, small whiskefs, no moustache, and wears spectacles ; generally dressed in shabby dark clotiies, and high hat. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, June 7. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. Jennison Hopper, Great Kelk, East Riding, York, on the 21th ultimo, between 7 a. m. and 7 p. m. : two cotton Sheets, two Table Cloths, one red and white and one white, some Towelling, an Anti- macassar, and on e metal Teapot. By a man of the followino- description: JACOB alias WILLIAM ASKAM, ( a lodger with Mr. Hopper) 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and stout figure ; dressed in fustian jacket, cork trousers, black vest, and cap ; and a native of Sutton St. James, Lincolnshire. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent Harper, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, June 7. Stolen on the 3rd instant, between 2 and 3, from the 2 POLICE GAZETTE. June 7 drawing- room of the house of D. A. Taylor, Esq., Linkfield* street, in the borough of Eeigate : one silver champagne Challenge Cup, with inscription—' Won by Edward Nolan in J- mile University Race' ; and three small silver round old- fashioned Tea Caddies. By two young men, one about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high; dressed in a light loose tweed coat with tweed trousers and vest, dark com- plexion, no whiskers, very slightly built. The second is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high; dressed in dark tweed clothes, both wearing hard felt hats, dark sallow com- plexion, flat face with a small tuft of hair on chin. Both were respectably dressed. These men were stopped by the Police on the main road to Croydon, near the Caterham Railway Junction, and made their escape upon being followed by the Police. The short one was seen to throw a portion of the property away, which was recovered, broken up. They can be identified. Information to be given to Head Con- stable Rogers, Redhill, Surrey.— Bow- street, June 7. Absconded on the 22nd ultimo, from Margaret- street, Marylebone, stealing a gold Geneva open- face Watch, gold dial, with gold Chain and Locket attached; and £ Z 7s. 8d., the property of his employer : a youth, 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, fresh complexion, and brown hair ; dressed in a dark mixture suit, and has a respectable appear- ance. Has some friends at Leicester, and is supposed to have gone there.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, June 7. Absconded from his lodging, Redhill, charged, with stealing two black cloth Coats with pockets on hips, two Waistcoats, a pair of light- coloured Trousers, and a pair of side- spring Boots, recently clumped : a man about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches higb, dark hair and complexion, face small and rather blotchy, and his upper teeth project when talking; he worked as a plumber and painter's labourer, and has served 9 months in Petworth Gaol for stealing dothes from Horsham. All reasonable expenses will. be paid. In- formation to be given to Head Constable Rogers, Redhill, Surrey.— Bow- sireet, June 4. Stolen between 8 and 9' 30 a. m. on the 29th ultimo, from a bedroom at the Duke of York public- house, Tunbridge Wells : a silver verge Watch, single case, has ' E. H.' marked on the back ; a dark blue Coat, three outside pockets, one a ticket pocket, and one inside left breast; a dark grey single- breasted Yest, three pockets ; a white and red Pocket- hand kerchief ; and a briar- root Pipe ; the property of George Eaves. By a man who lodged there one night : about 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, fair com- plexion, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in a black cloth suit, high black hat, and black necktie ; has the appearance of an hotel waiter or boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. — Bow- street, June 4. Stolen about 2 a. m. on the 2nd instant, from a dwelling- house in Sandbach : a pair of lace- up Boots, a pair of water- tight ditto, a stuff Dress, a dark Skirt, a dark winsey Skirt, a Description of a man who gave the name of ROBERT black merino Jacket, a scarf Shawl, four pairs of Stockings, SEYMOUR ( supposed fictitious), of Preston, no occupation, a wool Shawl, a puce ditto, a plaid ditto, two woollen Scarves, j who is committed for trial at the Devon Quarter Sessions seven Aprons, a Nightgown, a window Blind, a Chemise, a; held at Exeter on the 29th instant, for picking pockets at Skirt, four Pillow Slips, and a brown Umbrella, the property , Totnes Railway Station on the evening of the fair • from 36 of Peter Bailey. By three forgemen who lodged in the house, j to 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, grey eyes, light and absconded at the time of the robbery : I brown hair, fair complexion, slight whiskers and moustache, JAMES LYNCH, 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high,; inclined to be^ ed, enlargement of left thumb, middle size, light hair and complexion, sandy moustache ; dressed m an( j. 0f military appearance ; dressed in dark brown overcoat moleskin trousers, blue coat, worsted cap, and strong boots, j dark speckled coat and vest, dark tweed trousers, elastic- side MARTIN GAVIN, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, | boots, bard felt hat, and carried a reversible overcoat, black dark hair and complexion ; dressed m moleskin trousers, grey and light ( mackintosh). It is supposed that this man is well cloth jacket, and worsted cap. ! known in Plymouth and Cornwall, where he may have been MARTIN BROWN, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, I previously convicted for felony. Information to be given to Salop, Who holds a warrant for his apDrehension.— Bow- street, May 31. • Stolen from the Weymouth Rowing Club boat- house, about 8 p. m. of the 28th instant : an open- face silver lever Watch, No. 3327, maker J. Leechman, has the letter ' T.' engraved on back of case, and black figures; a gold albert Chain and gold Locket and Bar, both plain. By WILLIAM HAMMOND or HEMMINGS, about 35 years of age ( but looks younger), 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sallow complexion, high cheek bones, rather" stout build, full face, blue eyes, and light brown hair cut very short; shabbily dressed in a dark snuff- colour vest and trousers, dark cut- away coat, pockets on hips, and cap; he is in the habit of visiting boat clubs in different parts of the count^ i. and has rowed in matches. He has just come out o£ Pool? Prison. He offered the watch for sale at Portsham, and made enquiries for the road to Dartmouth. Information to be given to Superintendent Vickery, Police Office, Weymouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 31, Stolen, on the 28th inst., from a workshop at Wom- bridge, Herefordshire : a double- backed white Slop, nearly new, with white bone and metal buttons; a Square, marked J. Perkins; a spoke Shave, marked under the knife, J. Perkins; a f- iuch joiners' Chisel, marked on the handle, J. Perkins : supposed by an Irishman, a collier or iron- worker, 40 years of age, slender make, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair and whiskers, small moustache; dressed in old brown jacket and grey vest, and old moleskin trousers, patched on knees, and a very large patch on the seat, black jimcrow hat, and farge clogs ; he is supposed to have gone in the direction of Pontypool. Also stolen, on the 25th inst., from a hedge at Michael- church, Exley, Herefordshire, brown mixture cord Trousers, nearly new, fall front, lined with unbleached calico, and with 4 metal brace buttons, some black bona do. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Hereford, or Sergeant Phillips, Abbey Dore.— Bow- street, May 31. FRAUDS AMD AGGRAVATED MISDEMEAHOUSjS. Charged with obtaining Money by false pretences : THOMAS WATSON, 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair and moustache ; dressed in tall Alpine hat, and long Irish travelling coat, with belt round, much worn ; is going from town to town representing that he is one of the firm of Messrs. Watson and Bowman, auctioneers, Darlington. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- sireet, June 4. MISCELLANEOUS ffiFCEMIKOOT. light hair and complexion, small sandy moustache ; dressed in light grey clothes and cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Con- stabulary Station, Middlewich, or to Inspector Hulme, Con- stabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, June 4. Superintendent Dore, G Division, Kingsbridge.— Eov.- sir. eet, June 7. Devon Constabulary, Description of ANN CHAMBERS, a hawker of lace, committed to Dorchester Gaol on the 31st ultimo, for one j month, for larceny : 45 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, dark , , brown hair, hazel eyes, swarthy complexion, and several cuts Absconded on the 26th ultimo, embezzling JoO : a youth, I on face . dressed in black. She has a pedlar's certificate for 18 years of age, fair complexion and hair, and blotched face ; ! the borough of Arundel, which expired on the Ist of April dressed m blue cutaway coat aud vest, grey trousers, and last, and the above offence endorsed on same. Iuformation high hat. He will probably emigrate.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, June 2. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Middlesborough, on the 28th instant: a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 14735 ; a long plated gold Guard attached. No. 4083, 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, sallow complexion, a labourer, blue mark on right arm, scar on left side. He was convicted at Leeds on the lst January, 1874, and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment; discharged 31st Dec. 1874. ' Reg. No. 9025, ALFRED GREENWOOD, 41 years of age, 5 feet 4f inches high, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, cut mark on forehead, two moles on back, and scar on right thumb ; was convicted at Halifax of house- breaking, & c., on the 4th March, 1869, and sentenced to seven years penal servitude; was discharged from Portland on the 20th October. 1874.
