Notice.— It ia requested that all communications lor the purpose . of obtaining or giving information reapecting aupposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre' bended, and the Name is gives, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not he made, t, TKe Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded War Office Eorms 8S and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Between 10 p. m. the 21th and 5 a. m. the 25th ultimo, a dwelling- house at High- lane, was broken and entered and stolen therein : a dark brown Overcoat, brown velvet collar, double- breasted, three pockets outside, two on the right side, one on the left, and one inside left breast, brown covered buttons, and much worn ; a boy's blue pilot Overcoat, black velvet collar, lined with bright scarlet plaid, and black bone buttons, nearly new ; a woollen scarf Shawl, black and white plaid, nearly new; 35 yards of black Silk; 3 girl's Jacket, imitation sealskin, lined with black satin, and much worn ; a Writing Desk, made of light brown polished wood, inlaid with brass round the edge of the lid, and a plate in centre about 14 inches by 7 inches ; two £ 5 Bank of England Notes; and about £ 5 in Gold and Silver. 20s. reward will be paid for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Lawton, County Police Station, Stockport, Cheshire.— Bow- sireet, June 2. on forehead, and red face ; a village Cart, with oak- coloured body and chocolate wheels, silver plated lamps, and the end of the near wing broken ; also a set of silver- plated Harness and Snaffle Bit. By a lad who hired the same for an hour and a half, and did not return it, and who is supposed to be the same person charged with similar offences at Worthing and Hastings : he is about 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark bushy hair, and sallow complexion ; dressed in black cloth suit and white straw hat with black band. In- formation to be given to Head Constable Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.— Bow- street, May 28. INFORMATIONS. V- FORGERY. Description of a man who on the 21st ultimo, under the pretence of purchasing a pianoforte, tendered a forged cheque for £ 50, drawn on Lacon's Bank, Haleswortb, and signed E. If. Lacon, and received a cheque for the balance, £ 25, from a pianoforte manufacturer in Oxford : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers, and hair, cut short; dressed in blaek clothes and silk hat. He represented himself to be the rector ® f a parish a few miles from Oxford, and is supposed to be the s^ me person as described in the Police Gazette of 27th March and 28th April last, charged with similar offences at Great Yarmouth and Cambridge. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Police Office, Oxford, who holds a warrant for his apprehensicn.— Bow- street, June 2. Charged on a sheriff's warrant with having on the 27th ultimo, at a bank in Glasgow, obtained £ 90, by means of a forged cheque : ANDREW NISBET, a clerk, about 25 yrs. of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark hair, small dark whiskers and moustache, chin clean shaved, and dark complexion; dressed in dark suit. He is of genteel appearance, speaks with' a Scotch accent, and talked about going abroad. . Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Brown, Glasgow.— Bow- street, June 2. BOBBERY AND LARCENY FEOM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of William Castree on the 18th instant, at Ludford Park: a silver lever Watch, No. 5735, maker's name Edwin Bolt, Becl3itch. Information to be given to Superintendent Dykes, Leominster, Herefordshire. — Bow- street, Mai/ 31. / Stolen from the person at Newport pleasure fair, about 8 p. m. on the 28th. inst., a patent silver lever Wateh, No. 57027, no maker's name, sunk Seconds, open face, and capped. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Itichardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen from the person of a gentleman in the borough of Macclesfield, on the 25th instant, while watching the Clown Cricketers : a gold lever Watch, gold dial, jewelled in four holes, maker George Corrall, Coagleton, No. 24506. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Sheasby, Borough Police Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, May 28. BU1G1A1Y AND HOUSE EREAKI1G. Stolen in the borough o£ Shrewsbury, by means of house- breaking, on the 31st ultimo : a lady's gold consular Geneva Watch, No. 30730, gold dial, aud gold Albert Chain attached; a sdver English lever Watch, open face ; a pair of gold Eye- glasses; an old silver Watch, No. 784, maker John Kirk, London ; a plated Albert; a steel ditto ; and about £ 50 in Gold. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrewsbury, Salop.— Bow- street, June 4. Early on the morning of the lst instant, a dwelling- house at Dunchurch, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a silver Geneva Watch, single case, white dial, no seconds hand, engraved back with plain shield in centre, had attached a brass Key, with ' Barilla Earnham,' thereon ; a pair of common black Ear- rings, have been repaired ; ten nickel silver Spoons, six Tea, four Table ; eight Pocket Knives, containing several Blades, Cork Screws, & c.; a Chemise, a Night Dress, a pair of Drawers, a Bodice, all marked ' M. Butler,' in front; two baby's white Petticoats; four white brilliant and three diaper Pinafores ; two Shirts and three Night Dresses, children's ; two white linen Aprons ; two white Table Cloths ; four Chamber Towels; and six Tea Cloths. Supposed by two tramps. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Jervis, Rugby, Warwick- shire.— Bow- street, June 2. HOUSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of two men charged with stealing a Cow ( recovered) from Handley, in the parish of Staveley, on the 22nd ultimo : one about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, slight dark whiskers, no moustache, fresh com- plexion, thin features, and slender built; dressed in black cloth jacket and vest, dirty grey cloth trousers, and black cloth cap ; had the appearance of a collier. The other about 20 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown or sandy hair, very slight sandy whiskers, no moustache, thin features, and slender build; dressed in a suit of brown cloth, with small white spots in it, and black billycock hat; had the appearance of a farmer or cattle dealer. Infoimation to be given to Superiutendent Carline, County Police Office, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.— Bow- sireet, June 4. Description of a man who gave the name of WILLIAM GULLY, of Clifton, Bristol, charged with obtaining by false pretences from George Goddard, a Horse, by givirg a fictitious cheque in payment at Binegar Pair, on the 19th instant: about 60 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexicn, and grey bushy whiskers; dressed in a suit of blaek, with black high hat, large pattern gold Guard, with large locket, wore gold Spectacles, and appears to be deaf. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Somerset Constabulary, Glastonbury, or to Sergeant Vowles, Wells, Somerset.— Bow- street, May 31. Further information and description of two men charged on fwarrants with stealing two Ponies from Lazenby and Yearby, near Redcar, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, on the night of the 13th instant, both natives of Essex, but have been at Marske- by- the- Sea, for a considerable time, working in the ironstone mines, and may seek similar employment, or in coal pits or public works. They have also been in the habit oi attending horse sales and dealing in old horses. The Trap they took away with them from Marske has since been returned: EDWARD HARTGROVE, alias PIGEON COTE NED, who left his wife behind, is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 J inches high, dark hair and whiskers, inclined to stoop, and turns his feet outwards, andis well known at Romford ; generally dressed in green checked trousers, black cloth coat, and cap with double peaks. He is a native of Ongar, near Romford, Essex. And WILLIAM ALLEN, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, or 5 feet 11 inches, slender build, fresh complexion, rather good- looking, light hair and moustache, and no whiskers ; generally dressed in dark blue coat and vest, and black trousers, or in a suit of black, and velvet cap. Left his wife at Marske. He is a native of Chadwell or Chadwellheath, Essex. A third man is supposed to be in their company about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, and light whiskers all round the chin; dressed in dark clothes and black hard felt hat. Hartgrove and Allen were seen at Rosley Hill Fair, Cum- berland, on the 17th instant, dealing with the two Ponies. The brown one was sold, and has since been recovered. The grey pony is still missing. It is 14 hands 2 inches high, ( not 13 hands high as before- stated.) Information to be given to Superintendent Priest, Guis- borough, or to Sergeat Kitching, South Eston, Middlesbro', Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 31. Further information respecting the Pony stolen from Vange Rectory ( as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26th instant) : the pony was 14 instead of 13 hands high, off hind foot white, and not the near hind foot, as previously stated, has a scar on near hind fetlock joint, and a scar on off fore fetlock joint,' cut by the shoe. Information to be given at the Police Station, Southend, Essex.— Bow- sireet, May 31. Stolen from a field near Crickhowel, on the night of the 24tli instant: a brown hackney Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, black legs, tail cut,' scar from halter under chin, sear under right fore leg, and white mark on back ; also a brown cob Mare, 6 years old, 14 hands high, white star on forehead, and one white hind fetlock. Information to be given to Superintendent Evans, Breconshire Constabulary, Crick- howell.— Bow- street, May 28. Stolen on the 25th instant, from Tunbridge Wells, the property of Mr. Thomas Waghorne, fly proprietor : a red and white Gelding, 13 hands 1 inch high, long white tail, star LARCENY AID EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from his lodging, Redhill, charged with stealing, two black cloth Coats with pockets on hips, two Waistcoats, a pair of light- coloured Trousers, and - a pair of side- spring Boots, recently clumped : a man about 20 yeara of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, dark hair and complexion, fate small and rather blotchy, and his upper teeth project when talking ; he worked as a plumber and painter's labourer, and has served 9 months in Petworth Gaol for stealing clothes from Horsham. All reasonable expenses will be paid. In- formation to be given to Head Constable Rogers, Redhill, Surrey.— P— • treet, June 4. Sto7._ . - on 8 and 9' 30 a. m. on the 29th ultimo, from a bedroom at the Duke of York public- house, Tunbridge Wells : a silver verge Watch, single case, has ' E. H.' marked on the back ; a dark blue Coat, three outside pockets, one a ticket pocket, and one inside left breast; a dark grey single- breasted Vest, three pockets ; a white and red Pocket- hand- kerchief ; and a briar- root Pipe; the property of George Eaves. By a man who lodged there one night: about 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, fair com- plexion, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in a black cloth suit, high black hat, and black necktie ; has the appearance of an hotel w<£ ° r b^ ots. Information to be given to Superinten4ent Embery, Town Hall, Tunbridge Walls, Kent. — Bow- stmt, June 4. , . v. Stolen about 2 a. m. on the 2nd instant, from a dwelling- house in Sandbaeh : a pair of lace- up Boots, a pair of water- tight ditto, a stuff Dress, a dark Skirt, a dark winsey Skirt, a blaek merino Jacket, a scarf Shawl, four pairs of Stockings, a wool Shawl, a puce ditto, a plaid ditto, two woollen Scarves, seven Aprons, a Nightgown, a window Blind, a Chemise, a Skirt, four Pillow Slip?, and a brown Umbrella, the property of Peter Bailey. By three forgemen who lodged in the house, and absconded at the time of the robbery : JAMES LYNCH, 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches higb, light hair and complexion, sandy moustache; dressed in moleskin trousers, blue coat, worsted cap, and strong boots. MARTIN GAVIN, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in moleskin trousers, grey cloth jacket, aud worsted cap. MARTIN BROWN, 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches higb, light hair and complexion, small sandy moustache ; dressed iu light grey clothes and cap. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Rowbottom, Con- stabulary Station, Middlewich, or to Inspector Hulme, Con- stabulary Station, Sandbach, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, June 4. Absconded on the 26th ultimo, embezzling £ 50 : a youth, 18 years of age, fair complexion and hair, and blotched face ; dressed in biue cutaway coat and vest, grey trousers, and high hat. He will probably emigrate,— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, June 2. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Middlesborough, on the 28th instant: a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 14735; a long plated gold Guard attached. By a man, who lodged in the house two nights and absconded : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 to 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and moustache, and slender figure ; he said he was a cabinetmaker, and came from Malton ; dressed in dark shooting coat, grey striped trousers and vest, aud a grey or drab hat, with a, button at the top. Information to be given to Chief Con-, stable Saggerson, Middlesborough.— Bow- street, May 31, Stolen from a dwelling- house at Milford, parish of Bas- chureh, on the morning of the 19th instant : a Brooch, set with three pebbles ; a muslin Dress, white ground with blue sprig; and a white corded Petticoat, supposed marked. ' E. Notseley' on the band; the property of Elizabeth Noneley, Milford. By a young woman, who lodged in the house the night before, about 25 years of age, about 4 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, and sallow complexion ; dressed in black jacket, trimmed with crape, black dress, black hat, trimmed with crape and a large plait of crape in front and black feather behind, grey skirt, trimmed with red braid. She gave the name of WILLIAMS, and said she had been nurse in several lunatic asylums. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, or to Police Constable Lyndon, Baschurch, CSalcp.— Bow- street, May 31. Description of HENRY WILLIAMSON, a tramping shoemaker, supposed to be a native of Newcastle, charged with stealing a pair of new elastic- side Boot Tops, a quantity of Leather for bottoms of same, and a pair of Wooden Lasts ( 7J size) at Whitby, on the 22nd instant, the property of John Beadnell; he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, rather long, which he combs to the front of his ears on both sides, thin features, and rather high cheek bones ; dressed in dark clothes and round hard black hat. He was accompanied by 2 POLICE GAZETTE. June 4 his wife, and will probably seek employment in some large town. Informaion to be given to Superintendent Ryder, North Riding Constabulary, Whitby, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 31. Description of WILLIAM BAKER, charged with stealing a quantity of Iron ( recovered) : about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, dark complexion, has lost his front teeth; dressed in a sleeved waistcoat, cord trousers, and hard jimcrow hat; hawks herrings and collects old iron ; has been living in Shrewsbury, with a woman, a native of Wrexham, of which place Baker is supposed to be a native. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Williams, Worthen, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen from the Weymouth Rowing Club boat- house. Lester ( not recovered) : ALFRED EDW. BURROWS, also ARTHUR EDWARDS, 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin sallow complexion, long dark hair, inclined to curl and parted in the middle, very slight dark moustache, ' A. B.' in ink on right fore arm, and scar on right chin ; dressed in black cloth oxonian coat ( pockets behind), vest, and trousers, and white straw hat with black band, linen marked ' A. A, E. Burrow.' He is supposed to have committed similar offences at Windsor, Brighton, Worthing, Tnnbridge Wells, & c. He gave as his address 22, Approach- road, Bethnal- green, Lon- don. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Hastings, Kent.— Bow- street, June 2, Remanded until the 7th instant, on a charge of house- breaking : PATRICK WILSH, says he is a native of Liverpool, a labourer, 28 years >£ age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sallow com- plexion, light hair and whiskers, and slight moustache, blue about 8 p. m. of the 28th instant : an open- face silver lever ht cil£ ekbone, also on outside of left leg, and Watch, No. 3327, maker J. Leechman, has the letter T. J '• •- - 8 ' • - s' - engraved on back of case, aud black figures; a gold albert Chain and gold Locket and Bar, both plain. By WILLIAM HAMMOND or HEMMINGS, about 35 years of age ( but looks younger), 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sallow complexion, high cheek, bones, rather stout build, full face, blue eyes, and light brown hair cut very short; shabbily dressed in a dark snuff- colour vest and trousers, dark cut- away coat, pockets on hips, and cap; he is in the habit of visiting boat clubs in different parts of the country, and has rowed in matches. He has just come out of Poole Prison. He offered the watch for sale at Portsham, and made enquiries for the road to Dartmouth. Information to be given to Superintendent Yickery, Police Office, Weymouth, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 31. Stolen, on the 28th inst,, from a workshop at Wom- bridge, Herefordshire : a double- backed white Slop, nearly new, with white bone and metal buttons ; a Square, marked J. Perkins; a spoke Shave, marked under the knife, J. Perkins; a -|- inch joiners' Chisel, marked on the handle, J. Perkins : supposed by an Irishman, a collier or iron- worker, 40 years of* age, slender make, 5 feet 9 inches high, browa hair and whiskers, small moustache; dressed in old brown jacket and grey vest, and old moleskin trousers, patched on knees, and a very large patch on the seat, black jimcrow hat, and large clogs ; he is supposed to have gone in the direction of Pontypool. Also stolen, on the 25th inst., from a hedge at Michael- church, Exley, Herefordshire, brown mixture cord Trousers, nearly new, fall front, lined with unbleached calico, and with 4 metal brace buttons, some blaek bone do. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Hereford, or Sergeant Phillips, Abbey Dore.— Bow- street, May 31. Absconded from Cardiff, on the 15th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling a large sum of money; ROBERT BAILEY WILLAVISE, a traveller, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout built, short neck, slightly pockmarked, rather dark hair, and whiskers turning grey, and moustache, florid complexion, grey eyes; ne has a peculiar gait, and walks badiy ; geneially dressed in pepper and salt coloured clothing, high silk hat, and carries a stick or an umbrella. It is supposed that he will try to leave the country. Any person giving such information as shall lead to his apprehension, shall receive £ 100 reward. Information to be given to Major Bond, Chief Constable, Cardiff, Glamor- ganshire.— Bow- sireet, May 28. rSAUBS AM ® AGGRAVATED Charged with obtaining Money by false pretences : THOMAS WATSON, 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair and moustache ; dressed in tall Alpine hat, and long Irish travelling coat, with belt round, much worn ; is going from town to town representing that he is one of the firm of Messrs. Watson and Bowman, auctioneers, Darlington. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, June 4. Description of J. C. SMITH, charged with obtaining £ 10 by false pretences, on the 17tli instant, at Canterbury : 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fair complexion, full round face, very light hair, short whiskers, has never shaved, stout build, large mole on left side of neck, which shows above the shirt collar ; dressed in rough cloth blue- black overcoat, rather long, dark grey vest, grey check trousers, blue or black necktie, white shirt and stand- up collar, new boots, and soft felt hat; had a brown silk um- brella, black handle, small black leather bag, and black leather portmanteau with straps across ; he is well known at Tunbridge Wells and Sandwich, represents himself as a solicitor, and has been clerk to a solicitor ; last seen at Sand- wich, Kent, on the 21st instant. Information to be given to Chief Constable Oavies, Canterbury, Kent— Bow- st, J/ AM/ 28. Committed for trial for attempting to pass counterfeit coin at Newmarket, during the races : HORACE BEAU- MONT, 18 years of age, 5 ft. 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, dark eyes, has lost a front tooth, and has a scar on front and one on right side of forehead ; dressed respectably ; he says he was born at Aldershot, and gave an address in London, which is false. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, Newmarket, Cambs.— Bow- sireet* M ay 31. Committed for trial at Carlisle Assizes on a charge of burglary : JUGI YELFRI, a German sailor, from 27 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, no whiskers, small moustache, much sunburnt, brown hair, wears a pair of gold. Ear- rings and gold keeper Ring on third left finger; dressed in dirty dark jean jacket, black and white check waistcoat, blue serge trousers, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Bertram, Constabulary Office, Whitehaven, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow street, May 31. Description of WILLIAM LEEDS, a railway labourer, committed for trial at the next Westmorland Quarter Sessions on a charge of larceny from the person ; he says he is a native* of Canterbury, and seived in the West Kent Militia, and was up with the regiment at Woolwich : 44 years of age, 5 feet 9J inches high, swarthy complexion, blue eyes, long brown hair, bushy whiskers all round, proportionate make, has lost part of the first joint of little finger of left hand, and is ruptured on right side ; dressed iu a slop, moleskin vest ancl trousers, watertight boots, and soft white hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Parks, Appleby, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland,— Bow- street, May 31. Description of EDWARD JOHNSON, late of Sheer- ness, charged on a warrant with assaulting Police Constable- Laker ( 198) in the execution of his duty at Minstar Sheppy, on the 26th March last; about 26 years of age, about 6 feet high, fresh complexion, and good- looking ; generally dressed in blue pilot jacket, bound with braid, black vest, light cord trousers, and hard felt bat. He is of respectable appearance. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police- Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow street, May 31.
