Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. Stolen from the person on the Eastbourne Racecourse on the 10th instant : a gold Geneva Watch, with seconds hand, maker's name Wilson ; also a gold English Watch. Stolen on the 6th instant from the person, on the Ipswich Race Course : a silver single lever Watch, jewelled in four holes, No. 20705, with three links of Gold Chain attached, each link marked 18. Stolen on the 30th ult. from a gentleman, at Massington Ledbury race- course, an English gold Hunting Watch, ' Maker Dent, London,' engraved on inside case. £ 10 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the watch. T Stolen from the person at the Oxford Steeple Chases, on the 1st instant: a gold lever Watch, gold Albert curb Chain and I ocket attached, the Locket containing Photograph of a Lady and Gentleman, ' Stephen Morrison' engraved on inside of outer case of Watch. Also a f- plate gold hunting lever Watch, enamel dial, maker's name, ' Bowman, Goswell- street,' with a Photograph of a Lady inside. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, May 7. Between 10 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 10th instant, the dwelling- house of Charles Mulley, of the parish of Hadleigh, j labourer, was entered, and the following property stolen : an old silver pair- case Watch, cases very thin, Roman figures, a piece chipped off the face between the X and XI, steel Chain, brass Key and Seal attached ; also a rough grey Overcoat, half worn, single- breasted, dark buttons, pockets on the hips, and is lined with red and black plaid. A tramp is suspected of having committed the above offence : he is about 5 feet 11 inches high, thin build; dressed in long dark coat and leggings ; was seen in the afternoon of the 11th instant, on the Coggeshall road near Colchester, going in the direction of Braintee. Stolen by means of housebreaking at the parish of Hartfield, on the 11th instant: an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, figures on dial, no glass ; a gold wedding Ring, has been repaired; a small gold wire Ear- ring; a Half Sovereign; and 6s. in Silver. Also from the house of Stephen Jenner : an old silver verge Watch, with brass guard Chain attached ; and an old silver • Geneva Watch, roman letters on dial, steel curb Chain j attached. W.' in mono- gram), two Table ( one ' H.'), ( the other ' W.' in old English, aud one Gravy (' W.' in old English). 3 silver shut- up Fruit Knives, mother- o'- pearl handles. 16 electro- plated Forks, marked ' W.' in old English, eight dinner, and eight dessert. 1 lady's morocco hand Bag, much worn, containing about £ 4 in Gold. 1 gold Set, Brooch and Ear- rings, oblong, white shell. i 3 gold Lockets, one horse- pattern, one set in pearls, the other, containing portraits cf a Lady and Gentleman. 1 pair of gold Ear- rings, Grecian vase pattern. 1 plain gold buckle Bracelet, weighing about lj oz. 3 plain gold Pencil- cases. 1 gold Brooch, set in light garnets and pearls, with Ring to match. | 1 pair of jet Bracelets, with carved flower Medallion and jet Chain. 1 gold engine- turned Geneva Watch, cleaned by Steward, 406, Strands, Lordon, about twelve months ago. 1 gold curb Albert Chain, with snake- head Hook. 1 lady's gold Watch, engine- turned, with book- shaped shield. 2 gold Rings, one with green and white stones, the other had a red stone. A leather Purse, containing about £ 2 5s. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, County Police Station, Aldershot, Hants.— Bow- it., May 12. EHEGLAHY AND MOUSE BREAKING. Early on the morning of the 12th instant, the booking office at the Bagillt Railway Station was broken and entered, and there was stolen therefrom : 7s. 6d. in Copper, 5s. in Silver, a paper Parcel containing 3 lbs. lOozs. of Tobacco, and a paper Parcel supposed to contain newly- made Clothing. Information to be given to Superintendent Hughes, Holywell, Flintshire.— Bow- Ureet, May 14, Stolen from Crocker Hill, near Chichester, on the night of the 3rd instant, by means of housebreaking : six or eight Medals, having the name ' Captain Luce, R. N.,' on them ; a Tablecover, red and white ; and a black cloth Overcoat, with velvet collar. Information to be given to Superintendent Pratt, West Sussex Constabulary, Chichester.— Bow- street, May 10. Further information respecting the three men, charged with housebreaking at Knipton, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26tb ultimo : GEORGE SHAW and HENRY ANDERTON, alias SWIFT, alias DRUMMER, are committed for trial at the next Leicester General Quarter Sessions, charged with the above offences. The other man, JOHN ROBERTS, is still at large. Information to be given to Inspector Hinds, Constabulary Station, Bottesford, near Nottingham, Leicester, who holds two warrants for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 10. r Between 11 p. m. on the"_ 7th and 6 a. m. on the 8th inst., the residence of Octavius Shepherd, Green- end House, Box- moor, was broken and entered, aud the following property of the Rev. G. B. Rhind stolen therein : a dozen silver Tea Spoons, a silver Sugar Spoon, a pair of silvev Sugar Tongs, a silver Tea Caddy Spoon, two silver Sugar Sifters, two silver Fruit Spoons, an electro- plated Soup Ladle, a Gravy Ladle, six Table Spoons, two Sauce Ladle?, a dozen Dessert Spoons, a dozen large Forks, a dozen small Forks, a pair of Asparagus Tongs, a Crumb Trowel, a Toast Back, a Fish Slice and Fork, a filigree Sugar Basiu, aud two Caudlesticks, all marked ' R.' in old English and ' Elkinton.' Information to be given to Superintendent Isgate, Hemel Hampstead, Heits.— Bow- st., May 10. Between 11 p. m. on the 1st, and 5 30 a. m. on the 2nd instant, an entrance was effected into the house of Mrs. McKean, a widow, at Redcar, by means of breaking a square of glass in the front dining- room wiudow, and unfastening the latch, there was stolen from the dining- room table, the Stalk of a Flower Vase, silver plated, the bottom being left standing on the table, the stalk stood on three feet, resembling dogs feet, from which three branches extended about 18 inches high, on top of each was a small glass dish to hold flowers, and one a little higher up on the top of the stalk, to hold a larger glass dish, also to hold flowers, the glass dishes were all found broken close to the window, inside. Information to be given to Superintendent Pi est, Guisborougb, or to Acting Sergeant Alexander, Police Station, Redcai, North Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary.— Bow- street, May 5. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Caterham, Surrey, between 3' 30 and 4 p. m. on the 3rd instant : three ladie3 gold Rings, one with large oval turquoise and a diamond on each side, and four red roses round the edge ; another a garnet and chrysolite, two chrysolites and three garnets, but one garnet deficient ; and the other a wedding ring, altered to a dress ring, with five turquoise aud a small pearl in centre, and ' eaves forming a forget- me- not. Information to be given to Superintendent Murtell, Surrey Constabulary, Godatone — Bow- street, May 5. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from a field at Wing, during the night of tie 9th inst. : one ewe Sheep, black face and legs, one half- bred Ewe, one long- woolled Ewe, and seven Lambs, in store condition : by a young man, dressed in dark clothes, and of respactable appearance, who was seen, on the morning of the 10th iust, driving the stolen sheep at 5 a. m., and he is supposed to have disposed of them at some fairormaiket in the neighbour- hood. Information to be given to Inspector Supwell, Police Station, Linslade, Bucks.— Bow- st: eet, May 14. Description of J. J. ELSEY, supposed of Beverley, Yorkshire, charged with converting to his own use a Pony and Cart, of which he was the bailee, the property of Mr. John Cheek, of Little Dunmow : he is about 55 years of age, 9 feet 7 or 8 inches high, grey hair, grey bushy whiskers, chn- it con£ plexion ; generally dressed in dark gray clothes ; has travelled the country for many years as an improver of corn dressing machines. Information to be given to Superintendent Elsey, Police Station, Great Dunmow, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- slreet, May 14. Description of a man who, on tLe 5th instant, obtained seven Cattle from two auctioneers in the Cattle Market, Hereford, by presenting in payment two cheques drawn on the Imperial Bank, Westminster Branch, London, which he signed ' Alfred Henry Walker,' but had no account at the bank; the cheques were froai a chtque- book taken out of a portmanteau stolen on the railway between Bristol and London iu March last ; the cattle were forwarded from Hereford to Islington Market, consigned ' Biswick to Bond,' sold on the 6th instant, and a cheque given by Mr. Bond to Biswick, payable at Bacon and Cobbold's Bank, Ipswich, which was cashed ou the 7th instant, he receiving fourteen £ 10 Notes of Bacon and Cobbold's Bank, Ipswich, Nos. 5070, 5230, 5112, 5231, 5503, 5451, 5449, 5172, 5239, 5392, 5338, 5265, 4719, and 5287. He is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, gentlemanly appearance, daik complexion, heavy dark moustache, centre of chin shaved, daik whiskers and beard ; dressed in a light suit and bowler hat. Informa- tion to be given to Head Constable Davies, city of Hereford. — Bow- street, May 14. Stolen from a field at Oaken Gates, Salop, between the 10th and 12th instant: a dark bay mare Pony, aged, about 14 hands high, white star on forehead, and supposed to be iu foal, the property of Mr. John Peplon. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Merricks, Oaken Gates, Salop-— Bow- sireet, May 14. Supposed to have been stolen, from a field at Tibberton, Salop, on the night of the 24th ultimo : four yearling Sheep, marked with the letters ' W. L.,' which have btcome very faint. £ 10 reward will be paid ou the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the sheep ( if stolen). Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop.— Bow- stree', May 12. Stolen from a stable at Green- street Green, near Bromley, Kent, duricg the night of the 6th instant : a dark brown cart Mare, 5 years old, 15 hands 2 iuches high, star in fore- head, near fore foot white ; a light spring Van, painted brown, the tire of rear fore wheel is split aud hangs over, cap of one hind whee oil', ' W. T. Waring, Chelsfield, Kent,' scratched on off side ; and an old set of Harness. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen during the night of the 6th instant, from a field adjoining the River Thames, iu the parish of Stone, near Greenhithe, Kent : a Dorset Sheep with horns, not thorn, several pitch marks on back, and was killtd and takeu away iu a boat. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded from Thornbury, Herefordshire, ou the 22nd ultimo, charged on a warrant w ith stealing seven Sheep, at Burford, Salop : he gave the name of THOMAS DAVIS, 40 years of age, 5 f? vt 5 or 6 iuches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskers, and rather Ltout built ; dressed in a white cotton jacket, dirty cotton cjrd trousers, brown vest, black billycock hat, old lace- up boots, cut down the fronts. ; 2 May 14 He stated that he was a native of Worcester, and had been in the Marines ; he had over £ 5, the proceeds of the sale of the sheep, aud may buy fresh clothing. Had a letter in his possession addressed to Green Cottage, Great Malvern Chase, Worcestershire, has worked iu Wolverhampton driving a scavenger cart. Information to be given to Super- intendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Collis, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen from a field at Rotherham, during the night of the 4th instant : a dark bay horse Bony, 14 hands high, C years old, dark eyes, short ears, and has had the right shoulder broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, West Riding Constabulary, Court House, Rotherham, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 7. Stolen during the night of the 30th ultimo, from a stable in Wincott- street, Kennington- road, a heavy cart bay Mare, a<* e 0, 17 hands high, hind feet and star on forehead white, slight splinter on near fore leg, and in good condition.— — Metropolitan Poice, L Divisiton, May 5. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from Fulham- road : 80 yards of blajk Silk, with white and violet edge ; and 30 ditto ditto, with orange and violet ego. By two men : 1st, 31 years of age, 5 feet 0 inches high, sallow complexion, and dark brown hair and whiskers ( short); dressed in a dirk suit and felt hat; 2nd, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, aud fair hair and complexion ; and a woman, 25 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, and dark hair aud complexion ; dressed in dark clothes, and of respectable appearance.— Metropolitan Police B Divi- sion, May 5. LARCENY AND SKBEZZLSMES'T. Stolen from the house of Mrs. Eleanor Cowan, in the borough of Berwick- on- Tweed, on the 10th instant : A lady's gold Watch, maker ' William Dixon, chrono- meter maker to the Admiralty, London, No. 18939.' A gold Guard, secret link pattern. 2 gold Lockets, one small and the other large, Portrait of a gentleman in large one. A small gold Seal and a common brass Key. By a man who gave the name of H. MARTIN, alias WILLIAMS, who lodged in the house on the nights of the 8th and 9th, and stated he was employed putting up telegraph wires, and had worked at Darlington and Newcastle. He is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stoutly made, dark brown hair, whiskers and beard rather large, supposed slightly grey, aud the nose appears to have been injured ; dressed in a blue reefing jacket, blue vest, greasy at bottom, dark trousers, cloth cap with cheesecutter peak and brass buttons, strong lace- up boots, well worn on soles, and was wearing the stolen watch and guard. He gives himself out as a railway official from Newcastle, aud has obtained several small sums of money by representing to people that there was a parcel lying for them at the left luggage office, Newcastle, and if they would give him the money to pay the carriage he would send it to them ; he has the appearance of a working man, and evidently knows about telegraph and railway work. Information to be given to Head Constable Garden, Berwick- on- Tweed, Northumberland, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, and will pay 20s. reward for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Ma}/ 14. Absconded from Soham, Cambs, on the 1st instant, stealing two Watches, recovered : CHARLES STEEL, a watchmaker, supposed to belong to Norfolk, about 35 years of ? ge, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, and moustache lately grown ; dressed in dark blue coat, with fur round the collar and wrist, blue vest, black trousers, side- spring boats, and black round hat ; he carries a bag of tools. Information to be given to Sergeant Jackson, Soham, Cambs, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, May 14. Absconded from Eastbourne, Sussex, on the 8th instant, charged with stealing an india rubber Macintosh and a pair of Leggings, Is. 6d., and fifty- two Newspapers, the property of his employer : a lad, about 1G years of age, about 4 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, and medium make ; dressed in a low- crowned hat, light grey short jacket, dark trousers, and lace- up bcots. Information to be given to Superintendent Newnham, Eastbourne, Sussex. - Bow- st., May 14. Description of two men charged, on a warrant, with stealing 120 Pigeons, during the night of the 13th ultimo, at Ecclesfield, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, which have since been recovered : JAMES CROSSLAND, labourer, of Ireland- street, Not- tingham, 29 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark com- plexion, small dark eyes, which are very tender, dark hair, no whiskers or moustache, but sometimes wears a heavy moustache ; dressed when last seen in Sheffield in long dark coat and vest, cord trouser.-, and rough cap. GEORGE BYROM, bricklayer, belongs to Nottingham, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark com- plexion and hair ; mostly dressed as a mason. They are notorious pigeon stealers and poachers, and frequent Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, aud Yorkshire. Ir. foimation to be given to Superintendent Kershaw, West Riding Constabulary, Sheffield.— Bow- street, May 12. Absconded on the 3rd instant, from Chasetown, stealing £ 6 10s. 2id. from the dwelling- house of James Motteram, with whom he l" dged : a youth who gave the name of ALFRED PALMER, alias STEADMAN, 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale face, brown hair, stammers, and is a labourer at coal pits; dressed in old worsted cap with peak, black velvet jacket, dark brown cloth vest and trousers, and new lace- up boots ; he was formerly a shoeblack at Walsall, and absconded from Fishponds, near Bristol, on the 8th ultimo, having stolen a watch. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhilis Station, near Walsall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded on the 16th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 5, the monies of his employers Messrs. Richards and Co., clock importers, 24, Cannon- street : FREDERICK W. WARD, about 24 years of age, 5 ft. 4ins. high, light brown hair, cut short, small moustache, no whiskers, turn- up nose, large nostrils, large grey eyes, sallow complexion, high forehead, and Blender make ; respectably dressed ; wears a silver watch and silver chain attached ; is a clerk, and a native of Leicester. £ 5 reward will be paid for his apprehension. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, May 10. Description of THOMAS STAINSBY, a travelling watch maker, who failed to surrender himself at Durham Quarter Sessions on the 4th instant, to answer an indictment found against him for larceny as a - bailee ; 38 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, fresh complexion, hazel eyes, rather full, brown hair, light whiskers all round the face, and pro- portionate figure ; he lately resided at Middlesbrough, from which place he absconded about the 2nd ultimo ; and travels about the country cleaning and repairing clocks and watches ; he is well known throughout the county of Durham. Information to be piven to Superintendent Thubron Durham County Constabulary, Stanhope, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, May 7. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Absconded on the morning of the 8th instant, charged with an assault occasioning actual bodily harm to Jas. Parry, Ynyaforgan Lledrod, Cardiganshire, farmer: MORGAN MORGANS, of Brynissa, in the same parish, labourer, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, very slim, swarthy complexion, brown hair aud small whiskers, very large nose and feet, and walks with an awkward swinging gait ; dressed iu dark cloth coat and vest, brown corduroy trousers, and jimerow hat; can speak English fluently, having worked some years in the north of England. Information to be given to Superintendent Lloyd, County Constabulary Office, Aberystwith, Cardiganshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 14. Absconded from Eastbourne, on the 8th instant, charged with obtaining the sum of 13s. by false pretences : a man about 45 years of age, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, and small whiskers, turning grey ; dressed in dark cloth suit, and high black hat ; he is a printer, but represents himself to be an agent for soliciting advertisements for newspaper proprietors, and was accom- panied by his wife and two boys, one about 16 and the other about 8 years of age. Description of a convict licence- holder who has failed to report herself at the Police Station, West Broniwich, as required by the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871 : SARAH WILLIAMS, No. 922, 41 years of age, 4 feet 11£ inches high, dark complexion, brown hair and eves, cut back of each hand, on upper lip, nose, left cheek, and left eyobrow; she was convicted at Stafford, 27ih June, 1870, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervision, for felony, and liberated on license, 23rd March, 1875.
