Kotlce.— It ia requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in • reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, at! Letters addressed to the Editor JUUSt be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Stolen on the 6th instant from the person, on the Ipswich Race Course : a silver single lever Watch, jewelled in four holes, No. 20705, with three links of Gold Chain attached, each link marked 18. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Station, Town Hall, Ipswich, Ik.— Bow- street, May 10. Medals, having the name ' Captain Luce, R, N.,' on them ; a Tablecover, red and white ; and a black cloth Overcoat, with velvet collar. Information to be given to Superintendent Pratt, West Sussex Constabulary, Chichester.— Bow- street, May 10. Farther information respecting the three men, charged with housebreaking at Knipton, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 26th ultimo : GEORGE SHAW and HENRY ANDERTON, alias SWIFT, alias DRUMMER, are committed for trial at the n^ xt Leicester General Quarter Sessions, charged with the above offences. The other man, JOHN ROBERTS, is still at large. Information to be given to Inspector Hinds, Constabulary Station, Bottesford, near Nottingham, Leicester, who holds two warrants for his apprehension.— Bow- street, May 10. Between 11 p. m. on the- 7th and 6 a. in. on the 8th inst., the residence of Octavius Shepherd, Green end House, Box- moor, was broken and entered, and the following property of the Rev. G. B. Rhind stolen therein : a dozen silver Tea Spoons, a silver Sugar Spoon, a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, a silver Tea Caddy Spoon, two silver Sugar Sifters, two silver Fruit Spoons, an electro- plated Soup Ladle, a Gravy Ladle, six Table Spoons, two Sauce Ladles, a dozen Dessert Spoons, a dozen large Forks, a dozen small Forks, a pair of Asparagus Tongs, a Crumb Trowel, a Toast Rack, a Fish Slice and Fork, a filigree Sugar Basin, and two Candlesticks, all marked ' It.' in old English and ' Elkinton.' Absconded on the 3rd instant, from Chasetown, stealing £ 6 10s. 2| d. from the dwelling- house of James Motteram, with whom he Ldged : a youth who gave the name of ALFRED PALMER, alias STEADMAN, 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 iuches high, pale face, brown hair, stammers, and is a labourer at coal pits ; dressed in old worsted cap with peak, black velvet jacket, dark brown cloth vest and trousers, and new lsce- up boots ; he was formerly a shoeblack at Walsall, and absconded from Fishponds, near Bristol, on the 8th ultimo, having stolen a watch. Absconded on the 16th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 5, the monies of his employers Messrs. Richards and Co., clock importers, 24, Cannon street: FREDERICK W. WARD, about 24 years of age, 5 ft. 4ins. high, light brown hair, cut short, small moustache, no whiskers, turn- up nose, large nostrils, large grey eyes, sallow complexion, high forehead, and slender make ; respectably dressed ; wears a silver watch and silver chain attached ; is a clerk, aud a native of Leicester. £ 5 reward will be paid for his aoprehension. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hemingway, City Police Office, Carlisle, Cumber- land.— Bow- st., May 10. hold flowers, and one a little higher up on the top of the stalk, to hold a larger glass dish, also to hold flowers, the glass dishes were all found broken close to the window, inside. Information to be given to Superintendent Prest, Guisborough, or to Acting Sergeant Alexander, Police Station, Redcar, North Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary.— Bern- street, May 5. Description of THOMAS STAINSBY, a travelling watch maker, who failed to surrender himself at Durham Quarter Sessions on the 4th instant, to answer an indictment fpund against him Tor larceny as a bailee; 38 years of age, 5 feet 5J inches high, fresh complexion, liazel eyes, rather full, brown hair", light whiskers all round the face, and pro- portionate figure ; he lately resided at Middlesbrough, from which place he absconded about the 2nd ultimo ; and travels about the country cleaning and repairing clocks and watches ; he is well known throughout the county of Durham. Stolen on the 30th ult. from a gentleman, at Massington Ledbury race- course, an English gold Hunting Watch, ' Maker Dent, London,' engraved on inside case. £ 10 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders and Stolen by means of housebreaking at Caterham, Surrey, Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from Fulham- road : 80 yards between 3 30 and 4 p. m. on the 3rd iustant : three ladies j of black Silk, with white and violet edge ; and 30 ditto ditto, gold Rings, one with large oval turquoise and a diamond on j with orange and violet ege. Stolen from persons at the Stratford- upon- Avon steeple- brown, the tire of near fore wheel is split and hangs over, cap of one hiud wheel off, ' W. T. Waring, Chelsfield, Kent,' scratched © n off side; and an old set of Harness. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen during the night of the 6th instant, from a field adjoining the River Thames, in the parish of Stone, near Greenhithe, Kent : a Dorset Sheep with horns, not shorn, chases on the 27th ultimo : a gentleman's gold lever Watch, i several pitch marks on back, and was killed and taken away iu a boat. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded from Thornbury, Herefordshire, on the 22nd ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing seven Sheep, at Burford, Salop : he gave the name of THOMAS DAVIS, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskers, aud rather E, tout built; dressed in a white cotton jacket, dirty cotton cord trousers, brown vest, black billycock hat, old laee- up boots, cut down the fronts. He stated that he was a native of Worcester, and had been in the Marines ; he had over £ 5, the proceeds of the sale of the sheep, and may buy fresh clothing. Had a letter in his possession addressed to Green Cottage, Great Malvern Chase, Worcestershire, has worked in Wolverhampton driving a scavenger cart. Information to be given to super- intendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Sergeant Collis, Cle'ibury Mortimer, Salop,— Bow- street, May 10. Stolen from a field at Rotherham, during the night of the 4th instant : a dark bay horse Pony, 14 hands high, 6 years old, dark eyes, short ears, and has had the right shoulder broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Gillett, West Riding Constabulary, Court House, Rotherham, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, May 7. white face, black hands, the glass is foreign and peculiar, having a flat cut in the inside, maker Grotie, Wigmore- street, London, No. 6360 ; a gentleman's gold Watch, French make ; and a silver lever hunting Watch, number marked on centre of dial. Stolen from the person, at the Steeplechases, Aldershot on the 27th ultimo : a gold Geneva hunting Watch, had a double row of figures on dial, maker Robert Bernand, Chaux- de- fonds, Neuchatel, No. 10014, crest— lion's head on a shield on outside of case. Also a plain gold hunting Watch, with crest on back— lion and eagle, maker Lufman, Bloomsbury, London. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, Aldershot.— Bow- stt eet, May 3. Stolen from the person, on the Henley Racecourse, on the 28th ultimo: a gold hunting Watch, names on dial ' Upjohn and Bright;' a silver open- face Watch, size No. 12, plain, hollow back, and steel balance, No. 44953 ; also a gold horseshoe Scarfpin, set with pearls and blue enamel. Dr. NORMANDIE, alias SHOTLANDER, advertised in the Police Gazette of tne 26th ultimo, was apprehended at Clifton, and is committed for three momths hard labour in Shrewsbury Gaol. Supposed to have committed offences elsewhere.) He is about 30 years of age ( not ' 40 ' as adver- tised. Absconded on the 26th ultimo, from bail, charged with embezzlement: THOMAS DANVERS, 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, fresh complexion, grey hair and whiskers, sharp nose, slight impediment in speech, turns his feet out in walking ; dressed in dark clothes. Warrant issued.— Metro- politan Police, R Division, May 3, Stolen from the dwelling house of Mrs. Marriott, of Stubbers Green, between 2 and 6 a. m. on the 30th ultimo : a black cloth Overcoat, pockets in each side and one in left breast ; a Suit of black cloth ; a Suit of plaided cloth, trousers and vest darker than jacket; a pair of elastic- side Boots, buttons down front; two Shirts, one white, the other white with red spots ; two Neckties, one blaek and red, the other black and white ; and a, silver Geneva Watch, glass cracked, and imitation gold Albert Chain, snake pattern. By a man, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender build, dark brown hair, small moustache, no whiskers, large features, his right hand has recently gathered and is not yet well, and he is a native of Stratford- on- Avon ; dressed in the stolen suit of black and boots, and blue cloth cap with peak. Description of a man who pledged some of the stolen Articles in Liverpool the following morning : about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, sandy complexion, sandy whiskers under chin, full face, stout built, and has the appearance of a joiner; dressed in dark shooting coat and billycock hat. Absconded from Tunbridge Wells, on the 19th instant, of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, hazel eyes, man- and woman and cross flags on both arms, and sailor on right leg; dressed in brown cloth jacket with pockets on hips, black vest, Scotch tweed trousers, hard felt hat, striped cotton shirt, and old boots. WILLIAM SMITH, of Belfast, farrier;' 25 years of age, 5 feet II5 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and moustache, hazel eyes, pockpitted, hasjost a tooth from front upper jaw ; dressed in dark coa*, white slop ' rneath, white cotton shirt, black vest, blue cloth trousers,' soft felt hat, and old spring- side boots ; he served seven years in the 67th Regi- ment, and was discharged in 1870. SARAH ANN SMITH, wife of above, of King's Cross, London, street singer, 23 years of age, 5 feet high, fresh com- plexion, dark brown hair, dark eyes ; dressed in black dress, cotton body, black bonnet, trimmed wid^. slate- coloured . v 1 f aIt ,1 ribbon and small black feathers, black shawl, and lace- up charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums ot Money - j ' received by him for his master, Mr. R. Boorman, baker and confectioner : ROBERT MOSS, 21 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, walks with a limp, fair complexion, and slight moustache. He is a journeyman baker, and worked some time since at Ashford, Kent, and is a native of Bridge, near Canterbury. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Tunbridge Wells, Kent .- Bow- street, April 30. Description of JAMES TANNER, alias MILLER, charged with stealing two Clipping Machines ( since recovered): 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark brown hair cut close, no whiskers, slight moustache ; dressed ia shabby dark clothes, and a coloured cotton pocket- handkerchief round his neck; he has an impediment in his speech, and is a stable- man. Information to be given to Head Constable Ross, Borough Police Station, Newport, Isle of Wight, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 30. FEAUDS AID A0& SAV 1 boots. MARY ANN COZENS, of Cardiff, street singer, travels with Carpenter, and has a child 2 years old ; is 19 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, grey eyes, and pockpitted ; dressed in light cottcn dress, white worsted jacket, trimmed with black braid, black hat, and lace- up boots. Information to be given to Inspector Hall, Newport Pagnell, Bucks.— Bow street, May 10. Committed to Mold Gaol on the 7th instant, for 7 days for vagrancy : a tramp, 34 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, black hair, sallow complexion, and proportionate build; dressed in brown clcth coat, with long flaps, pockets on hips, lavender tweed vest, dirty moleskin trousers, lace- up boots, and old straw hat; he declines to give any account of him- self. Had in his possession a nearly new check shirt, rough dried, a brown calico ditto, and a West Riding Constabulary Uniform Button. Information to be given to Superintendent Bolton, Hanmer, or to Sergeant Matthews, Overton, Flint- shire.-— Bow- street, May 10. Absconded from Northampton on the 22nd ultimo, charged, under the Fraudulent Debtors Act, with obtaining large quantities of goods by fraud : WILLIAM THOMAS, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair, sandy whiskers and moustache, whiskers rather long at sides, slight build, very clean, and good looking ; dressed when last seen in a black silk hat, black frock coat, and dark trousers, has three plain gold studs in front of shirt, and wears a heavy linked gold albert chain. And WILLIAM JAMES THOMAS, about 38 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair, light brown whiskers and moustache, stout build, good looking, and of good address; dressed when last seen in a black felt flat- crowned billycock hat and a suit of green mixture cloth clothes. They have only resided in Northampton for a short time, and the names are supposed to be fictitious. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person apprehending the said William Thomas and William James Thomas, or £ 5 for either of them. Absconded on the 27th instant, charged on a warrant with fraud : GEORGE MARSHALL, late of 127, Edgeware- road and Belle Vue Hotel, Gravesend, auctioneer : 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers ( trimmed close) and moustache turning grey, stout The dead Body of a male Child was found floating in in the river Ribble, Preston, on the 7th instant; it was naked, and appeared to have been in the water some time ; is in a state of decomposition, the right foot is nearly off at the ankle, and the head open. At the coroner's inquest an open verdict was returned. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Borough Police Station, Preston, Lan- cashire.— Bow- street, May 10. Left his heme on the 3rd instant, at Upper Penne, near Wolverhampton, and has not since been heard of : WM. BOWYER, 10 years of age, stout, brown hair, dark blue eyes, and fresh complexion; dressed in a tweed jacket and vest, woollen cord trousers, red and white scarf, low black hat, and lace- up boots. It is feared some ill has befallen him. Information to be given to Inspector Tomlinson, Police Office, Sedgley, or to Polioe Constable Wright, Upper Penne, Staf- fordshire.— Bow- street, May 10. on the 1st inst.: PHILLIP JAMES BARRY, of Bicester, Oxon, labourer, 45 years of age, 5 feet inches high, dark brown hair turning grey, whiskers round chin, full face, mark of burns on palms of both hands, and mark on right wrist from a cut; dressed in a brown alpaca coat, old blue cloth ( policeman's) trousers, marked ' C. Dearman' in black ink on. waistband, red and white plaid scarf, white shirt, fustiaa vest, old lace- up boots, and black glengary cap with black ribbon hanging behind; and JOHN HOPP, of Newhaven, America, labourer, 34 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair and whiskers meeting under the chin ; dressed in a dark brown alpaca coat, dark cloth trousers, grey waist- coat, grey cap with peak of same material, black silk necktie, and old lace- up boots. They were on their way to London. Information to be given to Superintendent Hedley, Police Office, Fenny Stratford, Bucks.— Bow- street, Hay 5. A. man who gave the name of THOMAS ANDERSON, is committed for trial for larceny : he is about 33 years o£ age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, no whiskers, tuft of hair on chin ; dressed in soft round hat, short white slop, old dark yeet and trousers, and strong lace- up boots ; he states that he has worked for a firm of com merchants, in Cardiff, and left that place in February last. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Upton- on- Severn, or to Acting Inspector Turner, Great Malvern. Worcestershire.— Brno- street. May 5.
