Police.— It is requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the SigiiKtore of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, lili letters addressed to the Editor must fce prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 8SA, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Description of a man who was entrusted with a brown mare Cob ( aged, 13| hands high, small white speck on fore- head, short tail, large head and ears, in good condition, and fore legs clipped) to take from Sittingbourne to Minster Shoppy on the 13th instant, aud has not since been heard of : about 24 years o: age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, fiesh com- plexion, cheesecutter cap, black coat, and old light shoes. Stolen during the night of the 10th ultimo, from a field at the Garig : a dark brown mare Pony, 4 years old, 12 hands high, white star on forehead, has beeu shod, the property of Mr. B. Poole. Thomas, Buttington, near Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bovi- slreet, April 14. heavy nailed boots; he had a black lurcher dog with him, and carried a small guano bag ; is a native of near Stroud. They are both labourers, have the appearance of navyies, and have been several times convicted of poaching, assaults on police, & c. Description of two men charged with highway robbery at Bungav, on the night of the 21st ultimo.:' FREE HARPER, alias HARBER, of Brooke, Norfolk, labourer, about 20 years of age, about. 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh com- plexion, and dark hair ; dressed iu a brown worsted vest, dark trousers, and cloth cap, with French peak. FREDK. MOORE, alias SKINGO, of Bungay, labourer, about 18 years of age, abont 5 feet 3 inches high, brown hair, and fresh complexion ; dressed in blue pilot cloth coat, blue cloth trousers, blue guernsey, aud black wideawake hat. They have both been in the herring fishing, and may be dressed as fishermen Information to be given to Inspector Foster, Police Station, Bungay, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, April 16. Stolen from the person on the 7th instant, at Chatham : a gold lever Watch, No. 9351 ; a silver lever ditto, sup- possed No. 1427 ; a small silver lever ditto, maker Casper, Chatham; a plain gold single- case Geneva ditto, with lever escapement ; and an old- fashioned gold ditto, with white face, engine- turned back, maker Samuel Allport, Birmingham. Stolen from a boy about G p. m. on the 7th instant, at Hill Ridware : a Coat ; a Satchel, containing several Books ; and 3d., the coat, satchel, and books have since been recovered. By a tramp, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, long dark liair, short dark whiskers; dressed in an old brown eoat, ragged brown trousers, and imitation seal- skin cap, no boots or stockings. During the night, of the 7th instant, the offices of the Cannock aud Wimblebury Colliery Company, Hednesford, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of shopbreaking, between the night of the 10th and the night of the 11th instant, in Leeds : 3 plain sealskin Mantles, quilted with brown satinet, 25 inches deep. 2 plain sealskin Mantles, quilted with brown satinet, 27 iuches deep. 2 sealskin Mantles, trimmed with beaver satinst, quilted, 25 inches deep. were broken into, and an iron ssie" broken open, and about £ 8 in Gold and Silver stolen therein. Gillingham, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : a small frosted gold Brooch with red stone, a gold oval ditto with yellow stone, a small gold Watch chain with secret links, a plated ditto, round links, a ladies' gold Ring, set round with 4 torquoise stones aud a small diamond in centre, 4 silver Table Spoons, marked ' S U 11,' 10 silver Tea Spoons, 1 silver Gravy ditto, 3 silver Desert ditto, 1 silver Mustard ditto, 12 electro- plated Forks, and 19 Sovereigns in an old leather purse. Description of JOHN DEVANEY, a native of Mold, a labourer, charged ( on a warrant), with breaking into a , colliery office in the parish of Nerquis, near Mold, at 3 a. m. I on the 4th instant: he is 20| years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, rather long thin face, appears to have weak or sore eyes, and may have a small light moustache; dressed in a black cloth coat with pockets at the sides, old black silk vest, mixture cloth trousers, black soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; he has served 5 years penal servitude for horse stealing in Ireland. Stolen from a mill in Bolton, by breaking into the same, during the night of the 5th instant: from 100 to 600 yards of grey Calico, about 38 inches wide, with three cords running through the heading. ARTHUR OLIVER, a native of Brighton, a watchmaker, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. high, thick sandy hair, thin light whiskers, small moustache, chin shaved, and slight built ; dressed in brown olive over- coat, black frocK ditto, black trousers, and high black hat. £ o reward will be paid by Mr. Hanny, his late employer, ou conviction and recovery of the property. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement at Williugton on the 5th instant : JOHN LISLE, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, turning grey, brown eyes, aud large nose ; dressed in blue pilot jacket and round felt hat, carried with him a black leather satchel; he is a chemist, but has latterly been hawking jewellery. He is also charged with appropriating to his owu use the following articles, which were entrusted to him to sell, viz. : one silver lever Watch, silver dial, No. 37,038 ; cue silver lever Watch, enamel dial, No. 13011 ; one ditto, ditto, with ' T. Wakefield, Wil- lington,' on dial, No. 5230; one ditto ditto ;- one silver Boston Lever, silver dial, No. 898,241; one silver Geneva, silver dial, No. 109623 ; a second- hand verge Watch, No. 3340 ; one lady's gold Geneva; one silver Geneva; one Geneva, hard dial, No. 38,485; nine gold Wedding Biugs ; six pairs of gold Ear- rings ; four silver Guards ; five silver A berts ; seven gold Lockets ; three gold Seals ; ten gold Keeper Rings ; five plated Brooches ; six gold Keys; one pair of plated Ear- rings; and four gold Alberts. He has also obtained several sums of money from bill posters, printers, and others, under the pretence of being agent in advance to Wombwell's Menagerie. APNI W Description of two men belonging to tbe 7tb Company 22nd Brigade, Boyal Artillery, stationed at Weymouth, who deserted on the night of the 8th inst., charged with stealing two pairs of new half- Wellington Boots from the barracks ; also with stealing from an outhouse on the Dorchester- road, where they left theif uniform, a rough blue pilot cloth Coat, black horn buttons, dark lining, pockets broken at the side : JOHN DORCHERBY, about 20 years of age, 5 feet ius. high, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and rather flat- footed, native of Londonderry; and SAMUEL SMITH, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 71 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, hazel eyes, and a native of Bury, Lincolnshire. It is supposed they will sell the boots and attempt to re- enlist. Information to be given to Superintendent Vickery, Police Office, Weymouth, Dorsetshire.— Bow- street, April 12. Stolen between the hours of 9 p m. on the 6th and 6 a. m. on the 7th instant, from Hill Farm, in the parish of Hope Mansell: one pair of dark cloth mixtnre Trousers, men's size, with small white spots ; one brown moleskin Vest, with three buttons off, single- breasted, stand- up collar, and watch pocket on left breast; one dark cloth Vest, with violet spots ; one white slop Jacket, torn under left arm ; one pair of new elastic Braces ; one new blue striped bundle Handkerchief, not hemmed; one old black Mackintosh, torn at bottom, behind ; one black soft high- crowned billycock Hat ; one white handle Pocket- knife with two blades, small blade broken through the middle; a black leather Purse with steel clasp ; and a pork Ham, weighing about 12 lbs., the property of Edwin Bailey and John Owen. By a mau, about 55 yrs. of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, grey hair, and whiskers meeting under chin, bald on top of head, and blind of left eye ; dressed in dark brown cloth jacket, moleskin vest, cord trousers, stained in the front, black soft high- crowned billy- cock hat, and strong boots ; he is a labourer, and is supposed to be a native of Hereford; and stated that he was a pen- sioner. Absconded from Linslade, on the 20th ultimo, charged with embezzling £ 50 : JAMES HAMITLON LINVELL, rate collector for the parish, 48 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in dark clothes ; he is a superannuated inspector of Metropolitan Police, and supposed to be in or near London. Informatiou to be given to Inspector Sapwell, Linslade, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 9. Charged ( on a warrant) with felony : ALEXANDER MORTEN, late of No. 11, Angel- court, Throgmorton- street, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, rather sandy whiskers, no moustache, shaved under chin, pale comlexiou, aud proportionate build ; dresses respectably. Stolen from a public- house in Birkenhead: one small gold Geneva Watch, enamelled case with ' D. B' on back, and long gold Chain, with gold Pencil- case, form of a cross, and set with turquoise, attached; one gold Brooch, carbuncle stone, and lady's flioto. at back ; one gold Brooch, set with three amethysts ; pair of gold sleeve Links ; one gold Bing with five opals ; one imitation buckle mourning Bing, with hair inside ; also pair of gold Eye- glasses, with black beaded Chain attached. By a man about 25 years of age, 5 ft. 7 in3. high, proportionately built, round face, black moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in a light mixed tweed coat, felt hat, and - white muffler. Description of two men remanded at Romford, until the 22nd instant, on a charge of uttering counterfeit coin, on the 14th instant: ROBERT WM. CAMBELL, supposed fictitious, about 34 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, no whiskers or moustache, high cheek bones, scar on nose, light brown hair ; dressed in old blue coat, mixture vest, cotton cord trousers, lace- up boots, with toe- caps, aud old serge cap, with button on top; says he is a native of Newcastle- on- Tyne, and employed at the North Eastern Railway Works, at New- castle, as a bricklayer. JOHN SLATER, supposed fictitious, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 iuches bigli, rather pale complexion, long black hair, whiskers and moustache of recent growth ; dressed in old black coat, vest, and dark mixture trousers, old low shoes, and black billycock hat ; he states that he is a native of Glasgow, Scotland, is a labourer, and has travelled the country in search of work. Alsc description of a woman who gives the name of EMMA SMITH, supposed fictitious, rem'anded, charged with uttering counterfeit coin, on the 14th instant : she is about 46 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, fresh complexion, a tramp ; dressed in dark bonnet, with red flowers, coloured shawl, aud dark dress ; she says she was born at Colchester, Essex, and left there about 6 years ago ; she has been travelling with a mau about 5 feet 9, or 10 inches high, 45 or £ 0 years of age, hair cut short, no whiskers or moustache; dressed iu old dark clothes ; states ho is an umbrella mender. Information to be given to Inspector Pepper, Police Station, Romfsrd, Essex,— Bow- street, April 16, Description of a tramp who gave the came of JOSEPH HATT, of Battersea, committed to Devizes Gaol for one month for vagrancy : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sletder build, dark brown hair, moustache, and of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, thin ' features, light coin> plexion, brown hair, and small light whiskers round the chin, which may be shaven off ; dressed in short white slop, black cloth trousers, elastic- side boots, and fur cap, or soft bowler hat ; he is well known on railways and other public works^ and has been employed driving a horse on the North Somerset Railway, and has also worked at Newport Docks. Informa- tion to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Somerset Constabulary, Glastonbury, or to Sergeant Vontes, Wells,, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, April 14. Further information respecting the boys — THOMAS COLES, EVAN THOMAS, and JOHN YOUNG, adver- tised in the Police Gazette of the 24th ultimo, as having: escaped from the Glamorganshire Reformatory School, Hufdre Ganol, near Neath, are still at large. COLES is supposed to have relatives in Wiltshire, and YOUNG in London. Thev are unaccustomed to any skilled labour, and may endeavour- to go to sea.
