Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, oi the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwiso the insertion will not be made. X MURDEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING- Absconded from Llangarren, Herefordshire, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Police Constable Charles Williams, at Llangarren, on the morning of the 26th ultimo : FREDERICK WHITE, alias WILLIAM WILLIAMS, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair and small whiskers; dressed in cord jacket and vest, drab or whits slop jacket, old dark tweed trousers, torn, at knees, black soft billycock hat, and strong boots ; is a native of Whiteshill, near Stroud. And JESSE DAVIES, alias HENRY RUSSELL, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 5 iuches high, light hair, whiskers, and small moustache, and large mouth; dressed in brown velveteen jacket, with large pockets inside, vest with velveteen sleeves and fustian back, moleskin trousers, turned up, black cap with peak and brass buttons at fides, and heavy nailed boots ; he had a black lurcher deg with him, and carried a small guano bag ; is a native of near Stroud. They are both labourers, have the appearance of navyies, and have been several times convicted of poaching, assaults on police, & c. ELLIS, late a farmer, of Daire Bank, charged ( on a warrant) with uttering a forged cheque for £ 15, drawn upon the North Eastern Bank, Banow- in- Furness : about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, dark browu hair, whiskers, and moustache, turning grey. Information to be given to Chief Constable Henderson, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 5. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the 7th iustant, at Chatham : a gold lever Watch, No. 9351 ; a silver lever ditto, sup possed No. 1427 ; a small silver lever ditto, maker Casper, Chatham ; a plain gold single- case Geneva ditto, with lever escapement ; and an old- fashioned gold ditto, with white face, engine- turnsd back, maker Samuel Allport, Birmingham. Stolen from a boy about 6 p. m. on the 7th instant, at Hill Ridware : a Coat ; a Satchel, containing several Books ; and 3d., the coat, satchel, and books have siuce been recovered By a tramp, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, long dark hair, short dark whiskers; dressed in an old brown coat, ragged brown trousers, and imitation seal- skin cap, no boots or stockings. Stolen from the person of Peter Sythgoe, in Crewe, between 6 and 10 a. m. on the 3rd instant : a silver lever Watch, plain case, No. 1116, maker Eckersley, and has ' Peter Sythgoe' engraved ou the same plate as the maker's name had a plated albert Chain attached. Stolen by means of shopbreaking, between the night of the 10th and the night of the 11th instant, in Leeds : 3 plain sealskin Mantles, quilted with browu satinet, g5 inches deep. 2 plain sealskin Mantles, quilted with brown satinet, 27 inches deep. 2 sealskin Mantles, trimmed with beaver satinet, quilted, 25 inches deep. 1 sealskin Mantle, trimmed with beaver satinet, 29 inches deep, shaped to figure. 1 sealskin Mantle, trimmed with beaver satinet, 20 ins. deep. 2 black astracan Jackets, black fringe at the bottom, lined with black quilted silk. 1 mock sealskin Jacket, trimmed with mock beaver satinet, lined. 4 Sealskins, about 36 inches long. 3 Sealskins, about 55 inches long. 1 seal Set, for jacket trimmings, about 8 inches deep. 2 beaver Sets, 9 inches deep, with large cuffs. 5 beaver Skins. 4 seal Tests, not made up. 1 beaver Vest. 2 astracan Vests. 1 mock seal Vest. » 1 Milner's Box, No. 139,720. Stolen on the 7th instant, about 3 p. m., from a cottage at Batheaston, by means of housebreaking : a rough blue cloth Overcoat, double- breasted, two pockets on the outside with flaps, and one inside, red and blue plaid lining ; a black Coat; two Vests ; a pair of Trousers; and a red cotton Handkerchief. By a man, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, small whiskers, dark complexion, and rather stontly built; dressed in soft bowler hat, short dirty slop, and light fustian trousers. All " the stolen Articles ( except the overcoat, which he is supposed to be wearing) have been recovered. Between 7' 30 p. m. 9th and 8- 30 a. m. on the 10th instant, the premises of Mr. Oliver Young, watchmaker and jeweller, 27, Sandhill, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, were broken and entered, and stolen therein : 500 gold Brooches, coloured and bright, various sizes and patterns. 500 silver Brooches, various sizes and patterns. lOC'O pairs of gold Ear- rings, various sizes aud patterns. 100 gold Keeper Rings. 100 sets of gold Studs, various patterns. 6 large gold Medals, shield pattern. 3 gold Bracelets. 1 dozen gold Lockets. 1 gentleman's gold Buckle Ring, with pieco of diamond shaped platina inside. 6 dozen silver Thimbles, various sizes. 4 silver Snuff Boxes, one large, three small. 1 silver gilt cupid Barrow. 6 dozen silver Pencil- cases. Several gold Pencil- cases. And various other articles of Jewellery. £ 50 reward will be paid by Mr. Young for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. During the night of the 7th instant, the offices of the Cannock and Wimblebury Colliery Company, Hednesford, were broken into, and an iron safe broken open, and about £ 8 in Gold and Silver stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, April 9. On the 7th inst. the house of the Rev. Jas. Harsent at New Brompton, Gillingham, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : a small frosted gold Brooch with red stone, a gold oval ditto with yellow stone, a small gold Watch chain with secret links, a plated ditto, round links, a ladies' gold Ring, set round with 4 torquoise stones and a small diamond in centre, 4 silver Table Spoons, marked ' S U H,' 10 silver Tea Spoons, 1 silver Gravy ditto, 3 silver Desert ditto, 1 silver Mustard ditto, 12 electro- plated Forks, and 19 Sovereigns in an old leather purse. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, April 9. Description of JOHN DEVANEY, a native of Mold, a labourer, charged ( on a warrant), with breaking into a colliery office in the parish of Nerquis, near Mold, at 3 a. m. on the 4th instant: he is 20| years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, rather long thin face, appears to have weak or sore eyes, and may have a small light moustache; dressed in a black cloth coat with pockets at the sides, old black silk vest, mixture cloth trousers, black soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; he has served 5 years penal servitude for horse stealing in Ireland. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, April 7. during the night of the 5th instant: from 100 to 600 yards of grey Calico, about 38 inches wide, with three cords running through the heading. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire. — Bow- street, April 7, Between 10 p. m. 31st ultimo and 5 30 a. m. on the lst instant, the house of Daniel Raisbrook, of Ashford, Kent, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a dark blue rough cloth Overcoat, pockets at hips, one outside left breast, and small change pocket right side, lined with black alpaca, black velvet collar, worn; a Tobacco Pouch, with dog's head upon it; five silver Tea Spoons, fiddle pattern; a pair o£ silver Sugar Tongs, ditto ; a round metal Tea Pot; £ 1 worth of bronze Coins, in 5s. packets ; and two silver Thimbles. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent County Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, April 5. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sheffield, by forcing open the dining- room window, between 12' 30 a. m. and 7 a. m. on the 4th instant: ten plain silver tea Spoons, marked ' G. T.'; six ditto, not marked ; a silver dessert Spoon, marked ' Trickett;' an engraved silver butter Knife, with pressed silver handle. Stolen during the night of the 10th ultimo, from a field at the Garig : a dark brown mare Pony, 4 years old, 12 hands high, white star on forehead, has been shod, the property of Mr. B. Poole. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, or to P. C. Thomas, Buttington, near Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 14. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Shrewsbury, on the 9th instant, charged with ttealing an English gold hunting, lever Watch, No. 4267, maker Botherhams, London, witli enamel dial, massive gold curb Chain, two gold Seals ( one with nag's head, and the other with three initial letters), gold Key, and a gold Coin the size of a 2s. piece attached ; a gold |- plate lever Watch, No. 16631, maker Ed. Romsey, Devonport, enamel dialj open face, and compensation balance ; a silver consular Watch, No. 10695, silver dial, and raised figures ; a set of Swiss Pivoting Tools, in stout blue paper box ; and about £ 4 iu gold. ARTHUR OLIVER, a native of Brighton, a watchmaker, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 5 ins. high, thick saudy hair, thin light whiskers, small moustache, chin shaved, and slight built; dressed iu brown olive over- coat, black frock ditto, black trousers, and high black hat. £ 5 reward will be paid by Mr. Hanny, his late employer, on conviction and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Borough Police Office, Shrewsbury, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, April 14. Absconded, charged on a warrant with embezzlement at Willington on the 5th instant: JOHN LISLE, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dar k hair, turning grey, brown eyes, aud large nose ; dressed in blue pilot jacket and round felt hat, carried with him a black leather satchel; he is a chemist, but has latterly been hawking jewellery. He is also charged with appropriating to his own use the following articles, which were entrusted to him to sell, viz. : one silver lever Watch, silver dial, No. 37,038 ; cne silver lever Watch, enamel dial, No. 13011 ; one ditto, ditto, with ' T. Wakefield, Wil- lington,' on dial, No. 5230 ; one ditto ditto ; one silver Boston Lever, silver dial, No. 898,241; one silver Geneva, silver dial, No. 109623 ; a second- hand verge Watch, No. 3340 ; one lady's gold Geneva; one silver Geneva; one Geneva, hard dial, No. 38,485; nine gold Wedding Rings ; six pairs of gold Ear- rings ; four silver Guards ; five silver Alberts ; seven gold Lockets ; three gold Seals ; ten gold Keeper Rings ; five plated Brooches ; six gold Keys; one pair of plated Ear- rings; and four gold Alberts. Description of a man charged at Nantwich with stealing 4s. 2d. in Stamps, on the 7th instant : about 2 6 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown complexion, full eyes, round features, and clean shaved ; dressed in short brown cloth coat, dark trousers and vest, red woollen scarf, and an old black cloth cap. He has also obtained several sums of money from bill posters, printers, and others, under the pretence of being agent in advance to Wombwell's Menagerie. Description of two men belonging to the 7th Company 22nd Brigade, Royal Artillery, stationed at Weymouth, who deserted on the night of the 8th iust., charged with stealing two pairs of new half- Wellington Boots from the barracks ; also with stealing from an outhouse on the Dorchester- road, where they left their uniform, a rough blue pilot cloth Coat, black horn buttons, dark lining, pockets broKen at the si^ e : JOHN DOBCHERBY, about 20 years of age, 5 feet % iias. high, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and rather fl-. it- footed, native of Londonderry; and SAMUEL SMITH, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7$ inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair, hazel eyes, and a native of Bury, Lincolnshire. It is supposed they will sell the boots and attempt to re- enlist. By a man, about 55 yrs. of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, grey hair, and whiskers meeting under chin, bald on top of head, and blind of left eye ; dressed in dark brown cloth jacket, moleskin vest, cord trousers, stained in the front, black soft high- crowned billy- cock hat, and strong boots ; he is a labourer, and is supposed to be a native of Hereford; and stated that he was a pen- sioner. Absconded from Linslade, on the 20th ultimo, charged with embezzling £ 50 : JAMES HAMITLON LINVELL, rate collector for the parish, 48 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in dark clothes; he is a superannuated inspector of Metropolitan Police, and supposed to be in or near London. Information to be given to Inspector Sapwell, Linslade, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 9. Charged ( on a warrant) with felony : ALEXANDER MORTEN, late of No. 11, Angel- court, Throgmorton- street, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, rather sandy whiskers, no moustache, shaved under chin, pale comlexion, and proportionate build ; dresses respectably. Stolen from a public- house in Birkenhead: one small gold Geneva Watch, enamelled case with ' D. B' on back, and long gold Chain, with gold Pencil- case, form of a cross, and set with turquoise, attached; one gold Brooch, carbuncle stone, and lady's Photo, at back ; one gold Brooch, set with three amethysts ; pair of gold sleeve Links ; one gold Bing with five opals; one imitation buckle mourning Bing, witn hair inside ; also pair of gold Eye- glasses, with black beaded Chain attached. By a man about 25 years of age, 5 ft. 7 ins. high, proportionately built, round face, black moustache, no whiskers ; dressed in a light mixed tweed coat, felt hat, and white muffler. Information to be given to Detective Inspector Moore, Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Bow- st., April 9. Stolen from a house at Swinton, about 1 p. m. on the 5th instant: a double- breasted black cloth Vest, a pair of brown woollen Stockings, a pair of blue Braces, a woollen Shirt, a pocket Knife, and £ 2 2s. lOd. By a youth who lodged at the house about three months : about 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, and has an impediment in his speech; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, light tweed trousers, lace- up boots, dark blue cap, and the stolen property ; he is a waggoner in a coal mine. Description of THOMAS BURNS, charged with stealing £ 17 and a pair of gold Ear- rings, from a house in Northwich, ou Jhe 3rd instant: he has been in the Army, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, thin light moustache, no whiskers, tattooed on arms, long features, and long straight nose ; dressed in a brown cloth coat, velvet collar, light corduroy trousers, sealskin cap, and clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Row- bottom, Middlewich, or to Inspector Duttan, Northwich, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 9. Absconded about the 20th December last, from No. 140, Strand, embezzling £ 50 : HENRY FANTON, 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers, and hair, aDd of respectable appearance. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, stealing £ 77, the monies of his employer, from North- street, Spitalfields: a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, beard, and moustache, pockmarked ; dressed in brown coat, cord trousers, white scarf with blue spots, fur cap, and lace- up boots ; it is supposed that he will endeavour to go to America.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 5. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, from Gun- street, Spital- fields, stealing 17 dozen Rabbit Skins, the property of his employer : a man, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark; dressed in light brown coat, dark trousers, and fur cap.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 5. Stolen from the Marlborough Tap common lodging- house, Ashford, Kent, on the night of the 30th ultimo: a blue Guernsey, two Stove Brushes, two white Scrubbing Brushes, and a piece of Clothes Line, about 24 yards long. By a man, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, stout built, and no whiskers or moustache; dressed in cord trousers, old dark cloth coat, with round hole in back, black billycock hat, with wire round brim, old lace- boots, cut up front, and no shirt. He is supposed to be a deserter from the Army. Information to be given to Super- intendent Noakes, Kent County Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, April 5. Absconded from Burbage, near Buxton, on the 22nd ultimo, charged with stealing £ 1 4s. 4d., the moneys of the Buxton Lime Company : THOMAS FINDLOW, late of Buxton, a messenger, 20 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight, swarthy complexion, nearly black hair, right arm taken off close to the shoulder ; dressed in a dirty grey suit and cap ; tramps about the country begging. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Shaw e, Chapel- en- le- Frith, or to Inspector Lownds, Buxton, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 5. Charged ( on a warrant) with embezzlement: CHARLES FRASER, late of No. 8, the Grove, Ealing, 42 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, bluish grey eyes, red hair, fresh complexion, sandy or red whiskers, and stout build ; dresses respectably. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C.— Bow- street, April 5. delivering parcels to several persons with Great Eastern Railway consignment notes, and charging various amounts for the carriage. Upon being opened, the parcels were found to contain only rubbish. Information to be given to Super- intendent Hediugton, Great Eastern Railway, Bishopsgate Station, E.— Bow- street, April 12. Description of a man giving the name of ALEXANDER McALLISTER, and states that he is a native of Ardrie, Lanarkshire, remauded until the 14th instant, charged ( with another man not in custody 1 with attempting to obtain money by falsely representing that he was to assist a poor lady to the sea- side to recruit her health. He is 56 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, grey hair and whiskers, blue eyes, large mole ou right side of nose, and walks with a stick. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of JAMES OCTAVIUS WARD, who is charged with obtain- ing the sum of £ 2,200 By false pretences, on the 4th February last: he is from 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, light hair, small whiskers, heavy light- coloured moustache, and downcast appearance ; well dressed. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension, by Chief Con- stable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 5. HISCEILMEOIIS INFORMATIONS. Between 5 and 6 a. m. on the 5th iustant, the dead Body of a newly- born Male Child, wrapped in a piece of brown paper, was found in Poynton Green- lane; at the coroner's inquest a verdict of ' Found dead' was returned.
