C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and » worn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded en War Office Forres 88' and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. was drowning, and the coroner's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by the government to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the ehild, and Mr. Secretary Cross, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon, to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. ELLIS, late a farmer, of Da; re Bank, charged ( on a warrant) with uttering a forged cheque for £ 15, drawn upon the North Eastern Bank, Bariow- in- Furness : about 50 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, turning grey. Charged on a warrant with uttering forged Bonds of the Chicago and North Western Railway of America : HENRY CLIFFORD, late of 7, Mark- lane, and 20, Royal- aveuue, Sloane- square, Chelsea, 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, grey hair and moustache, no whiskers, grey eyes, very sallow complexion, delicate looking, slim build, wears false teeth, and is a vegetarian. Absconded from Llangarren, Herefordshire, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Police Constable • Charles Williams, at Llangarren, on the morning of the 26th ultimo : FREDERICK WHITE, alias WILLIAM WILLIAMS, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, light brown hair and small whiskers ; dressed in cord jacket and vest, drab or whits slop jacket, old dark tweed trousers, torn at knees, Black soft billycock hat, and strong boots; is a native of Whiteshill, near Stroud. And JESSE DAVIES, alias HENRY RUSSELL, about 28- years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, whiskers, and small moustache, and large mouth; dressed in brown ... een jacket, with large pockets inside, vest with velveteen sleeves and fustian back, moleskin trousers, turned up, black cap with peak aud brass buttons at sides, and heavy nailed boots; he had a black lurcher dog with him, . and carried a small guano bag ; is a native of near Stroud. They are both labourers, have the appearance of navyies, and have been several times convicted of poachiDg, assaults on police, & c. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sheffield, by forcing open the dining- room window, between 12' 30 a. m. and 7 a. m. on the 4th instant: ten plain silver tea Spoons, marked G. T.'; six ditto, not marked ; a silver dessert Spoon, marked ' Trickett ;' an engraved silver butter Knife, with pressed silver handle. Description of THOMAS SMITH, of Durley, Hants, charged with breaking into the house of George Denham, at Ilorton Heath, in the parish of South Stoneham, on the 18th ultimo : 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, and small light whiskers meeting under his chin ; a labourer, and will likely apply for work at farms. Information to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary, Bit- terne, near Southampton, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, April 2. Stolen in Newcastle- upon- Tyne, between the 28th and 29th instant, by means af housebreaking : a large- sized gold Geneva Watch, No. 2428, had a round loug- linked gold Albert attached ; a large- sized silver Geneva Watch, No. 2638, had a long silver Guard attached ; an Australian nugget finger Ring ; a suit of superfine black cloth Clothes, man's size, in good condition ; a fine blue cloth shooting Coat, double- breasted, and one pocket outside of each lap; a pair of light striped cloth Trousers, a>. d a double- breasted Vest of same material; a blue pilot cloth Jacket; a pair of dark striped tweed Trousers, aud « . single- breasted Vest of same material— all new, to fit a youth 10 years old, coat and jacket have ' George Senior, Tailor, Scotswood Road,' ou strap inside of collars ; a baby's white satin Coat and Cape, trimmed with blue silk ; and a man's black, puce, and yellow striped woollen Shirt, new. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- st., March 31. During the night of the 28th instant, the workshop of Thomas Wynne, shoemaker, of Barton, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of old Wellington Boots, partly' soled, with the lasts in them, tops inside lined with red leather ; a last Hook ; and two A wis. Supposed by a man, about 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in dark round jacket, and black cloth cap, with French peak, who was seen near the premises at 3' 30 a. m. on the 29th instant. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Wilson, Tattenhall, or to Sergeant Bethell, Police Station, Farndonj Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 31. where decomposition had set in, and which appeared to correspond with the fingers and thumb of a person's hand compressing the mouth, there were no marks on the body. The medical gentleman gave his opinion that the child had been suffocated, and had been dead about a fortnight, the inquest is adjoui* ned until Friday the 3rd of April next. A new tin bonnet box painted oak colour, grained, iron handle on lid, painted black, light blue inside, bottom black, ' 5s. 3d.' under lid, 12 ins. deep, 13 ins. by 14^ ins. wide, locked with hand lock, ' N. E. R., Ripon' on lid outside ; the body was dressed in a new flanuel nightgown, with tape shoulder straps, three pleats in front, herring- bone stitched, with white thread under the edges, two strings on each side, a new unbleached cotton nightgown, the end of the sleeves roughly cut, not finished, five strands of cotton through the slot, roughly hemmed with mauve- eolcured cotton, a new unbleached cotton shirt, roughly hemmed reund, the top sleeves aud bottom not finished, new flannel hood, white glone strings, gimped'round the front, not finished, an old napkin, patched in the corner, a linen pocket handkerchief, plain hem, an old cotton handkerchief, with striped border, one corner torn off, a small piece of old scarlet flannel hemmed on one side with black thread, very small flannel pillow, filled with saw- dust, a quantity of fine machine shavings iu the bottom of the box, and a portion of the ' Manchester Daily Examiner and Times,' Of Saturday, April 12tb, 1873. On the night of the 21st instant, the body of ai newly born male child was found in the Kennett and Avon Canal, near the/; London Bridge, Devizes, tied up in a black alpaca apron, trimmed with four rows of narrow black velvet near the bottom, a white pocket handkerchief, machine hemmed, and a small hole burrt in it, and a piece of new calico, about half a yard long. At the inquest hold on the 22nd instant, the medical evidence went to show that the cause of death Ring, set round with 4 torquoise stones and a small diamond in centre, 4 silver Table Spoons, marked ' S U H,' 10 silver Tea Spoons, 1 silver Gravy ditto, 3 silver Desert ditto, 1 silver Mustard ditto, 12 electro- plated Forks, and 19 Sovereigns in an old leather purse. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Kent Constabulary, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, April 9. Description of JOHN DEVANEY, a native of Mold, a labourer, charged ( on a warrant), with breaking into a colliery office in the parish of Nerquis, near Mold, at 3 a. m. ou the 4th instant: he is 20J years of age, 5 feet 8 iuches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, rather long thiu face, appears to have weak or sore eyes, aud may have a small light moustache; dressed in a black cloth coat with pockets at the sides, old black silk vest, mixture cloth trousers, black soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; he has served 5 years penal servitude for horse stealing in Ireland. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.—- Bow- street, April 7. Stolen from a mill in Bilton, by breaking into the same, during the night of the 5th instant : from 100 to 600 yards of grey Calico, about 38 inches wide, with three cords running through the heading. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire. — Bow- street, April 7. Between 10 p. m. 31st ultimo and 5' 30 a. m. on the lst instant, the house of Daniel Raisbrook, of Ashford, Kent, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a dark blue rough cloth Overcoat, pockets at hips, one outside left breast, and small change pocket right side, lined with black alpaca, black velvet collar, worn ; a Tobacco Pouch, with dog's head upon it ; five silver Tea Spoons, fiddle pattern ; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, ditto ; a round metal Tea Pot; £ L worth of brorze Coins, iu 5s. packets ; and two silver Thimbles. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 29th ult., from Shrubland- road, Dalston : a light browu horse Pony, 12 hands high, in good condition. By a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high; dressed in dark clothes aud felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, April 2. Stolen : a che.^ nut Cob, about 14 hands high, aged, two white hind joints, b'aziug white face, white chin, with a black spot on under lip, marked shoulders, and broken knees. A lad, who gave the name of BROWN, from Worthing, about 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown, hair, dark eyes, rather full, slight build, dressed in dark clothes, straw hat, and a pair of well- made half boots, and carrying a white cane in his baud, we at to Mr. Herriott's yard, in West- street, Brighton, on the 23rd instant, and hired the above cob for two hours' ride, but has not returned. £ 2 reward. Found ( supposed stolen) at Severn Stoke, on the 6th instant : eighteen daik- faced yearling Sheep. A man calling himself JOHN HUNT, a grocer's assistant, is remanded until the lst proximo, charged with stealing a Donkey : he is 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light brown hair, grey eye3, fresh complexion ; dressed in blue ribbed cloth coat, dark trousers, with a light stripe, spring- side boots, and hard black felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bridges, Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, March 31. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Linslade, on the 20th ultimo, charged with embezzling £ 50 : JAMES HAMITLON LINVELL, rfite collector for the parish, 48 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, full face, and fresh complexion ; dressed in dark clothes ; ho is a superannuated inspector of Metropolitan Police, and supposed to be iu or near London. Information to be given to Inspector Sapwell, Linslade, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 9. Charged ( on a warrant) with felony : ALEXANDER MORTEN, late of No. 11, Angel- court, Throgmorton- street, 40 years of age. 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark browu hair, rather sandy whiskers, no moustache, shaved under chin, pale comlexion, and proportionate build ; dresses respectably. By a man about 25 years of age, 5 ft. 7 ins. high, proportionately built, round face, black moustache, no wbLkers ; dressed in a light mixed tweed coat, felt hat, and white mi filer. Stolen from a house at Swinton, about 1 p. m. on the 5tli instant : a double - breasted black cloth Vest, a pair of brown woollen Stockings, a pair of blue Braces, a woollen Shirt, a pocket Knife, aud £ 2 2s. lOd. By a youth who lodged at the house about three months : about 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, and has an impediment in his speech ; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, light tweed trousers, lace- up boots, dark blue cap, and the stolen property ; he is a waggoner in a coal mine. Description of THOMAS BURNS, charged with stealing £ 17 and a pair of gold Ear- rings, from a house in Northwich, on the 3rd iustant: he has been in the Army, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, thin light moustache, no whiskers, tattooed oil arms, long features, and long straight nose; dressed in a brown cloth coat, velvet collar, light corduroy trousers, sealskin cap, and clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Bow- bottom, Middlewich, or to Inspector Duttau, Northwich, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 9. Absconded about the 20th December last, from No. 140, Strand, embezzling £ 50 : HENRY FANTON, 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers, and hair, and of respectable appearance. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, stealing £ 77, the monies of his employer, from North- street, Spitaltields: a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, beard, and moustache, pockmarked ; dressed in brown coat, cord truisers, white scarf with blue spots, fur cap, and lace- up boots ; it is supposed that he will eudeavour to go to America.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 5. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, from Gun- street, Spital- fields, stealing 17 dozen Babbit Skins, the property of his employer : a man, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark ; dressed in light brown coat, dark trousers, and fur cap.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 5. Stolen from the Marlborough Tap common lodging- house, Ashford, Kent, on the night of the 30th ultimo: a blue Guernsey, two Stove Brushes, two white Scrubbing Brushes, and a piece of Clothes Line, about 24 yards long. By a man, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, stout built, and no whiskers or moustache; dressed in cord trousers, old dark cloth coat, with round hole in back, black billycock hat, with wire round brim, old lace- boots, cut up front, and no shirt. He is supposed to be a deserter from the Army. Information to be given to Super- intendent Noakes, Kent County Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, April 5. Absconded from Burbage, near Buxton, on the 22nd ultimo, charged with stealing £ 1 4s. 4d., the moneys of the Buxton Lime Company: THOMAS FINDLOW, late of Buxton, a messenger, 20 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 iuches high, slight, swarthy complexion, nearly black hair, right arm taken otf close to the shoulder; dressed in a dirty grey suit and cap ; tramps about the country begging. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Shaw e, Chapel- en- le- Frith, or to Inspector Lownds, Buxton, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 5. Charged ( on a warrant) with embezzlement: CHARLES FRASER, late of No. 8, the Grove, Ealing, 42 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, bluish grey eyes, red hair, fresh complexion, sandy or red whiskers, and stout build ; dresses respectably. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C.— Bow- street, April 5. Charged on a wairant with stealing a Purse, containing 1 Sovereign in Gold, 8s. in Silver, 4 Farthings, and a watch Guard, on the 23rd ultimo, the property of John Auckland, tailor, his master, of Stow, near Gainsborough : SAMUEL MOORE, 16 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, fair com- plexion, brown eyes, black hair, aud slim make ; dressed in dark clothes, and has a respectable appearance. He left Gainsborough ou the 24th ultimo for Hull, he having friends in the East Riding of York.- Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, County Police Station, Lincoln.— Bow- street, April 2. Description of HENRY LINGER, charged with em- bezzling a quantity of Canton Plait ( since recovered), of the value of about £ 7 : about 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair cut short, very slight light moustache, and has a red nose from a birth mark ; dressed when last seen in a dark overcoat, grey trousers and vest, spring- side boots, and a black felt billycock hat; he is likely to seek employmert as a clerk or porter iu a hat or bonnet warehouse. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Pope, Luton, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 2. Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from a dwelling- house at Bulwell : a lady's gold horizontal keyless Watch, gold dial, and black figures, with a gold Albert Guard and Pendant attached, and £ 10 in Gold. By HENRY WIDDOWSON, alias WILLIAM PRINCE, a native of Bulwell, 24 years of age, about 5 feet 9£ inches high ; well dressed, in dark coat, light muffler, and round hard felt hat; he deserted from the 12t. h Lancers in 1874, from Leeds, where he is also wanted for felony ; he has been several times convicted of felony, and was released from Southwell House of Correction in November last. Abcconded fronp^ outu Shields, on the 22nd instant, charged with embezz'iitfg~- i7; the property of the Directors of tlie Society for the Belief of Widows and Orphans of Shipwrecked Mariners : JOHN GREEN, shipbroker, a native of South Shields, 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate figure, dark complexion, rather curly black hair, long black bushy whiskers ( mixed with grey) and nrsustache, generally wears au eye- glass in right eye, holds Ills head forward when walking, of respectable appearance, very much addicted to drink, fond of horse racing, and may be found in company of betting men ; when last seen was dressed iu blue witney overcoat, dark fancy veat, dark tweed trousers, black silk hut, ela3tic- side boots, and generally carries an umbrella.
