Notice.— It is requested that all communications lor the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the SlgnatHre of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE maybe made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must l » e prepaid, otherwiso tie insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Eorms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, aa above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. was drowning, and the coroner's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. A reward of ,£ 50 will be paid by the government to any person who will give such information aud evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the ehild, and Mr. Secretary Cross, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon, to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Narsteed, Devizes, or to Superinten- dent Woodman, County Police Station, Devizes, Wilts.— Bow- street, March 27. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, Absconded from Llangarren, Herefordshire, charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Police Constable Charles Williams, at Llangarren, on the morning of the 26th ultimo : FBEDERICK WHITE, alias WILLIAM WILLIAMS, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light brown hair and small whiskers ; dressed in cord jacket and vest, drab or whita slop jacket, old dark tweed trousers, torn at knees, black soft billycock hat, and strong boots; is a native of Whitwhill, near Stroud. Aud JESSE DAVIES, alias HENRY RUSSELL, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light hair, whiskers, and small moustache, and large mouth; dressed in brown velveteen jacket, with large pockets inside, vest with velveteen sleeves and fustian back, moleskin trousers, turned up, black cap with peak and brass buttons at sides, and heavy nailed boots; he had a black lurcher dog with him, and carried a small guano bag ; is a native of near Stroud. They are both labourers, have the appearance of navyies, and have been several times convicted of poachiDg, assaults ou police, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Police Station, Boss, Herefordshire, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow street, April 7. On the morning of the 30th ultimo, the dead body of a newly- born female child, quite naked, was found in a ditch foy the road side near Watlington, Oxon. It appeared by the tuedical testimony at the coionor's inquest held the same day, that the child was born alive and was several days old, and. had died by strangulation. It was tightly compressed into j as small a parcel as possible. A verdict of ' Wilful murder; against some person unknown' was returned. Information to be given to Superintendent Seers, Police Station, Wat-! lington, Tetsworth, Oxov.— Bow street, April 2. Description of a box and contents booked from Ripon to the city of York, on the 18th instant, which on being opened ou the 24th instant, was found to contain the dead body of a fully developed male child, there were five marks on the face, where decomposition had set in, and which appeared to correspond with the lingers and thumb of a person's hand compressing the mouth, there were no marks on the body. The medical gentleman gave his opinion that the child had been suffocated, and had been dead about a fortnight, the inquest is adjourned until Friday the 3rd of April next. A new tin bonnet box painted oak colour, grained, iron handle ou lid, painted black, light blue inside, bottom black, ' 5s. 3d.' under lid, 12 ins. deep, 13 ins. by 14£ ins. wide, locked with hand lock, ' N. E. R., Ripon' on lid outside ; the body was dressed in a new flannel nightgown, with tape shoulder straps, three pleats in front, herring- bone stitched, with white thread under the edges, two strings on each side, a new unbleached cotton nightgown, the end of the sleeves roughly cut, not finished, Ave strands of cotton through the slot, roughly hemmed with mauve- colcured cotton, a new unbleached cotton shirt, roughly hemmed rsuud, the top sleeves and bottom not finished, new flannel hood, white glone strings, gimped round the front, not finished, an old napkin, patched in the corner, a linen pocket handkerchief, plain hem, an old cotton handkerchief, with striped border, one corner torn off, ' a small piece of old scarlet flannel hemmed on one side with black thread, very small flannel pillow, filled with saw- dust, a quantity of fine machine shavings iu the bottom of the box, aud a portion of the ' Manchester Daily Examiner and Times,' oE Saturday, April 12th, 1873. Information to be given at the Police Office, York.— Bow- street, March 27. On the night of the 21st instant, the body of a newly born male child was found in the Kennett and Avon Canal, near the ^ London Bridge, Devizes, tied up in a black alpaca apron, trimmed with four rows of narrow black velvet near the bottom, a white pocket handkerchief, machine hemmed, and a small hole burit in it, and a piece of new calico, about half a yard long. At the inquest held on the 22nd instant, FORGERY. Description of JOHN W. ELLIS, late a farmer, of Da; re Bank, charged ( on a warrant) with uttering a forged cheque for ,£ 15, drawn upon the North Eastern Bank, Banow- in- Furness : about £ 0 years of age, about 5 feet ' 10 inches high, medium build, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, turning grey. Information to be given to Chief Constable Henderson, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 5, Charged on a warrant with uttering forged Bonds of the Chicago aud North Western Railway of America : HENRY CLIFFORD, late of 7, Mark- lane, and 20, Royal- avenue, Slonne- square, Chelsea, 55 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, grey hair and moustache, no whiskers, grey eyes, very sallow complexion, delicate looking, slim build, wears false teeth, and is a vegetarian. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 31. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of Peter Sythgoe, in Crewe, between 6 and 10 a. m. on the 3rd instant: a silver lever Watch, plain case, No. 1116, maker Eckersley, and has ' Peter Sythgoe' eDgraved on the same plate as the maker's name had a plated albert Chain attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Saxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshire.— Bow- street, April 5. Stolen on the 22th ult., from tbe person of a gentleman on Bredon- hill race- course, a silver hunting Watch, No. 19784, with gold Albert Chain attached, makers ' J. R. Arnold and Charles Frodsham, 84, Strand, London.' Information to be given to Superintendent Stanton, Police Office, Pershore, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, April 2. Stolen in Newcastle- upon- Tyne, between the 28th and 29th instant, by means ® f housebreaking : a large- sized gold Geneva Watch, No. 2428, had a round long- linked gold Albert attached ; a large- sized silver Geneva Watch, No. 2638, had a long silver Guard attached ; an Australian nugget finger RiDg ; a suit of superfine black cloth Clothes, man's size, in good condition; a fine blue cloth shooting Coat, double breasted, and one pocket outside of each lap; a pair of light striped cloth Trousers, and a double- breasted Vest of same material; a blue pilot cloth Jacket; a pair of dark striped tweed Trousers, and ?. single- breasted Vest of same material— all new, to fit a youth 10 years old, coat and jacket have ' George Senior, Tailor, Scotswood Road,' on strap inside of collars; a baby's white satin Coat and Cape, trimmed with blue silk; and a man's black, puce, and yellow striped woollen Shirt, new. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- st., March 31. During the night of the 28th instant, the workshop of Thomas Wynne, shoemaker, of Barton, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of old Wellington Boots, partly soled, with the lasts in them, tops inside lined with red leather ; a last Hook ; and two Awls. Supposed by a man, about 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in dark round jacket, and black cloth cap, with French peak, who was seen near the premises at 3' 30 a. m. on the 29th instant. Informal tion to be given to Superintendent Wilson, Tattenhall, or to Sergeaut Bethell, Police Station, Faradon., Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 31. ' the medical evidence went to show that the cause of death BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of JOHN DEVANEY, a native of Mold, a labourer, charged ( on a warrant), with breaking into a colliery office in the parish of Nerquis, near Mold, at 3 a. m. on the 4th instant: he is 20| years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion,, light brown hair, rather long thin face, appears to have weak or sore eyes, and may have a small light moustache; dressed in a black cloth coat with pockets at the sides, old black silk vest, mixture cloth trousers, black soft billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; he has served 5 years penal servitude for horse stealing in Ireland. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or Inspector Minshull, Mold, Flintshire.— Bow- street, April 7. Stolen from a mill in Balton, by breaking into the same, during the night of the 5th instant : from 100 to 600 yards of grey Calico, about 38 iuches wide, with three cords running through the heading. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, April 7. Between 10 p. m. 31st ultimo and 5' 30 a. m. on the lst instant, the house of Daniel Raisbrook, of Ashford, Kent, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a dark blue rough cloth Overcoat, pockets at hips, one outside left breast, and small change pocket right side, lined with black alpaca, black velvet collar, worn ; a Tobacco Pouch, with dog's head upon it; five silver Tea Spoons, fiddle pattern; a pair of , silver Sugar Tongs, ditto ; a round metal Tea Pot; £ 1 worth of bronze Coins, in 5s. packets ; and two silver Thimbles. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent County Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, April 5. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sheffield, by forcing open the dining- room window, between 12' 30 a. m. and 7 a. m. on the 4th instant: ten plain silver tea Spoons, marked ' G. T.'; six ditto, not marked ; a silver dessert Spoon, marked ' Trickett ;' an engraved silver butter Knife, with pressed silver handle. Description of THOMAS SMITH, of Durley, Hants, charged with breaking into the house of George Denham, at Horton Heath, in the parish of South Stoneham, on the 18th ultimo : 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, and small light whiskers meeting under his chin ; a labourer, and will likely apply for work at farms. Information to be given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary, Bit- terne, near Southampton, who holds a warrant for his appre hension,— Boio- street, April 2, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 29th ult., from Shrubland- road, Dalston : a light brown horse Pony, 12 hands high, in good condition. By a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high; dressed in dark clothes and felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, April 2. Stolen : a cliesnut Cob, about 14 hands high, aged, two white hind joints, blazing white face, white chin, with a black spot on under lip, marked shoulders, and broken knees. A lad, who gave the iiame of BROWN, from Worthing, about 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, dark eyes, rather full, slight build, dressed in dark clothes, straw hat, and a pair of well- made half boots, and carrying a white cane in his hand, weat to Mr. Herriott's yard, in West- street, Brighton, on the 23rd instant, and hired the above cob for two hours' ride, but has not returned. £ 2 reward. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 31. Found ( supposed stolen) at Severn Stoke, on the 6llr instant : eighteen dark- faced yearling Sheep. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Police Oflice, Upton- on- Severn, Worcestershire.— Bow street, ilarch 31. A man calling himself JOHN HUNT, a grocer's assistaut, is remanded until the lst proximo, charged with stealing a Donkey : he is 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, light brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion ; dressed in blue ribbed cloth coat, dark trousers, with a light stripe, spring- side boots, and hard black felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bridges, Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, March 31. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded about the 20th December last, from No. 140, Strand, embezzling .£ 50 : HENBY FANTON, 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, whiskers, and hair, and of respectable appearance. Warrant . issued. — Metropolitan Police, E Division, April 7. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, stealing £ 77, the monies of his employer, from North- street, Spitalfields: a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, brown hair, beard, and moustache, pockmarked ; dressed in brown coat, cord trousers, white scarf with blue spots, fur cap, and lace- up boots ; it is supposed that he will endeavour to go to America.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 5. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, from Gun- street, Spital- fields, stealing 17 dozen Rabbit Skins, the property of his employer : a man, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark ; dressed in light brown coat, dark trousers, and fur cap,— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 5. Stolen from the Marlborough Tap common lodging- house, Ashford, Kent, on the night of the 30th ultimo : a blue Guernsey, two Stove Brushes, two white Scrubbing Brushes, and a piece of Clothes Line, about 24 yards long. By a man, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, stout built, and no whiskers or moustache; dressed in cord trousers, old dark cloth coat, with round hole in back, black billycock hat, with wire round brim, old lace- boots, cut up front, and no shirt. He is supposed to be a deserter from the Army. Information to be given to Super- intendent Noakes, Kent County Constabulary, Ashford. Bow- street, April 5., Absconded from Burbage, near Buxton, on the 22nd ultimo, charged with stealing £ 1 4s. 4d., the moneys of the Buxton Lime Company : THOMAS FINDLOW, late of Buxton, a messenger, 20 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight, swarthy complexion, nearly black hair, right arm taken off close to the shoulder ; dressed in a dirty « rey 2 POLICE GAZETTE. Charged ( on a warrant) with embezzlement: CHABLES FRASER, late of No. 8, the Grove, Ealing, 42 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, bluish grey eyes, red hair, fresh complexion, sandy or red whiskers, and stout build ; dresses respectably. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C.— Bow- street, April 5. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Purse, containing 1 Sovereign in Gold, 8s. in Silver, 4 Farthings, and a watch Guard, on the 23rd ultimo, the property of John Auckland, 1 tailor, his master, of Stow, near Gainsborough : SAMUEL MOORE, 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, brown eyes, black hair, and slim make ; dressed in dark clothes, and has a respectable appearance. He left Gainsborough on the 24th ultimo for Hull, he having friends in the East Riding of York. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, County Police Station, Lincoln.— Bow- street, April 2. Description of HENRY LINGER, charged with em- bezzling a quantity of Canton Plait ( since recovered), of the value of about £ 7 : about 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair cut short, very slight light moustache, and has a red nose from a birth mark ; dressed when last seen in a dark overcoat, grey trousers and vest, spring- side boots, and a black felt billycock hat; he is likely to seek employment as a clerk or porter in a hat or bonnet warehouse. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Pope, Luton, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 2. Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from a dwelling- house at Bulwell : a lady's gold horizontal keyless Watch, gold dial, and black figures, with a gold Albert Guard and Pendant attached, and £ 10 in Gold. By HENRY WIDDOWSON, alias WILLIAM PRINCE, a native of Bulwell, 24 years of age, about 5 feet 9J inches high ; well dressed, in dark coat, light muffler, and round hard felt hat; he deserted from the 12th Lancers in 1874, from Leeds, where he is also wantprl for felony ; he has been several times convicted of felony, and was released from Southwell House of Correction in November last. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Palethorpe, County Police Office, Nottingham.— Bow- street, April 2. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement : WILLIAM VANCE FEAST, formerly resided at Glen Cottage, Petersham, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, shaved under chin, full face, stoutly built; dressed respectably, and of gentlemanly appearance. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 31. Absconded on the 24th instant, from Love- lane, Shad- well, stealing £ 80, the monies of his employer : a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair and moustache ; dressed iu dark mixture loose overcoat, dark cloth trousers and vest, white wrapper, side- spring boots, round black felt hat, a clerk, supposed will emigrate from Liverpool.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, March 31. Abcconded from South Shields, on the 22ud instant, charged with embezzling £ 7, the property of the Directors of the Society for the Belief of Widows, and Orphans of Shipwrecked Mariners : JOHN" GREEN, shipbroker, a native of South Shields, 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate figure, dark complexion, rather curly black hair, long black bushy whiskers ( mixed with grey) and moustache, generally wears an eye- glass in right eye, holds his head forward when walking, of respectable appearance, very much addicted to drink, fond of horse racing, and may be found iu company of betting men ; when last seen, was dressed in blue wilney overcoat, dark fancy vest, dark tweed trousers, black silk hat, elastic- side boots, and generally carries an umbrella. Information to be given to Head Constable Richardson, Borough Police Office, South Shields, Durham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 31. - Absconded from Bristol, on or about the 2nd instant charged with embezzling ,£ 449, tlie monies of his masters, the Bristol Urban Sanitary Authority : HERBERT PALMER RIDDLE, rate collector, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, proportionate build, square shoulders, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, rather large moustache, whiskers and beard all round his face, beard freshly grown, heavy dark eyebrows and full eyes, has a nervous manner, active or quick in walking ; dressed when last seen in dark clothes, overcoat, high silk hat, and white muffler. A warrant is granted for his apprehension. £ 50 reward will be paid to any peison who will give such information to Mr. John G. Heaven, the Clerk to the Bristol Urban Sanitary Authority, or to Chief Superintendent Handcock, Bristol Police Force, as shall lead to his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 31. Stolen during the night of the 29th instant, from the lodging- house of James Deeping, the property of George Ambrose, Sudbury, Suffolk : a dark blue double- breasted pilot Coat, with yellow buttons, anchor upon buttons ; a pair of dark blue pilot Trousers, mended on one knee, fly fronts ; a pair of blucher Boots, one or two lace holes torn out; a blue Guernsey ; and a brown Guernsey, with red stripe . By a lodger, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, grey hair and whiskers, and dark complexion ; supposed to be wearing the stolen clothes and a black billycock hat, as he'left an old pair of trousers, a short drab slop, and a pair of old lace boots behind. He is supposed to be carrying an old black Coat. Information te be given to Superintendent Pidgeon, Bourn, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 31. Description of a man who absconded from Spittlegate, on the 24th inst., charged with stealing a watch ( since re- covered), a fitter by trade : 35 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, rather stout made, very bald, right hand contracted, dark whiskers, rather bushy, dressed in cap, pilot jacket, and dark trousers; talks of having been at sea. Information to be given to Superintendent Wynne, Police Station, Spittlegate, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 27. Stolen on the 22nd instant, from a dwelling- house in Ripon : a dark brown mixture cloth stable Jacket, buttons up to the neck with wood or bone buttons, nearly new ; a pair of drab fancy figured Trousers, made in groom's style, to fit tight to the legs. Supposed by a man, a lodger, who stayed in the house three nights, and absconded on the above date without paying for his board or lodging : about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair, sallow complexion, has the appearance of a foreigner, and is of good address ; well dressed, in a light grey overcoat, black cloth undercoat, dark cloth plaid trousers, low shoes with military heels and worsted laces, and high- crowned narrow- brimmed black bat; he stated he was an artist, and boasted of having travelled through America and on the continent. Information to be given to Superintendent Burniston, City Police, Ripon, York- shire.— Bow- street, March 27. FRAUDS AMD AGGRAVATED \ MISDEMEANOURS. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of JAMES OCTAVIUS WARD, who is charged with obtain- ing the sum of £ 2,200 by false pretences, on the 4th February last: he is from 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale complexion, light hair, small whiskers, heavy light- coloured moustache, and downcast appearance ; well dressed. £ 100 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension, by Chief Con- stable Cook, Hull, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, April 5. Charged on a warrant at Thame, Oxon, with obtaining £ 2 by false pretences from Sarah Newitt, at Thame, on the 27th of February last: THOMAS ALLIN, a pedlar, of Peterborough, 3& years of age ; he had his licence erdorsed for the borough' & High Wycombe, Bucks, on the 23rd of February last; he travels about selling whatnots and fancy tables. Information to be given to Inspector Hawtin, Thame, Oxon.— Bow- street, April 2. Charged with obtaining money by false pretences: JUBA KENNERLEY, a sea captaiu, 36 years of age, about about 5 feet 11 inches high, brown hair, thick and overhangs forehead, whiskers kept clipped, and chin shaved, short face, law forehead, high shouldered, and walks with a swaggering gait, and is of medium build; it is supposed that he will try to leave the country. £ 5 reward.
