C. Whenever it is desired that any person should bo appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. A lad, who gave the name of BROWN, from Worthing, about 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark brown hair, dark eyes, rather full, slight build, dressed in dark clothes, straw hat, and a pair of well- made half boots, and carrying a white cane in his hand, wejt to Mr. Herriott's yard, in West- street, Brighton, on the 23rd instant, and hired the above cob for two hours' ride, but has not returned. £ 2 reward. A man calling himself JOHN HUNT, a grocer's assistant, is remanded until the 1st proximo, charged with stealing a Donkey : he is 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3" inches high, light brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion ; dressed in blue ribbed cloth coat, dark trousers, with a light stripe, spring- side boots, and hard black felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Bridges, Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, March 31. lington, Tetswortb, Oxon.— Bow- street, April 2. upon it; five silver Tea Spoons, fiddle pattern ; a pair of silver Sugar Tongs, ditto ; a round metal Tea Pot; £ 1 worth of bronze Coins, in 5s. packets ; and two silver Thimbles. Information to be given to Superintendent Noakes, Kent Description of a box and contents booked from Ripon to the city of York, on the 18th instant, which on being opened County Constabulary, Ashford.— Bow- street, April 5. on the 24th instant, was found to contain the dead body of a fully developed male child, there were five marks on the face, where decomposition had set in, and which appeared to correspond with the fingers and thumb of a person's hand compressing the mouth, there were no marks on the body. The medical gentleman gave his opinion that the child had been suffocated, and had been dead about a fortnight, the inquest is adjourned until Friday the 3rd of April next. A new tin bonnet box painted oak colour, grained, iron handle on lid, painted black, light blue inside, bottom black, ' 5s. 3d.' Stolen from a dwelling- house in Sheffield, by forcing open the dining- room window, between 12' 30 a. m. and 7 a. m. on the 4th instant: ten plain silver tea Spoons, marked ' G. T.'; six ditto, not marked ; a silver dessert Spoon, i marked ' Tricket1-. ;' an engraved silver butter Knife, with pressed silver handle. Description of THOMAS SMITH, of Durley, Hants, charged with breaking into the house of George Deuham, at under lid, 12 ins. deep, 13 ins. by 14| ins. wide, locked with Horton Heath, in the parish of South Stoneham, on the hand lock, ' N. E. R, Ripon' on lid outside ; the body was 18th ultimo : 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light hair, dressed in a new flannel nightgown, with tape shoulder straps, and small light whiskers meeting under his chin ; a labourer, three pleats in front, herring- bone stitched, with white thread and will likely apply for work at farms. Information to be under the edges, two strings on each side, a new unbleached given to Superintendent Stannard, Hants Constabulary, Bit cotton nightgown, the end of the Bleeves roughly cut, not terne, near Southampton, who holds a warrant for his appre- finished, five strands of cotton through the slot., roughly; hension.— Bow- street, April 2, hennaed with mauve- colcured cotton, a new unbleached cotton shirt, roughly hemmed reund, the top sleeves and bottom not finished, new flannel hood, white glone strings, gimped round the front, not finished, an old napkin, patched in the corner, a linen pocket handkerchief, plain hem, an old cotton handkerchief, with striped border, one corner torn off, a small piece of old scarlet flannel hemmed on one side with black thread, very small flannel pillow, filled with saw- dust, a quantity of fine machine shavings in the bottom of the box, and a portion of the ' Manchester Daily Examiner and Times,' of Saturday, April 12th, 1873. On the night of the 21st instant, the body of a newly born male child was found in the Kennett and Avon Canal, near the ^ London Bridge, Devizes, tied up in a black alpaca apron, trimmed with four rows of narrow black velvet near the bottom, a white pocket handkerchief, machine hemmed, and a small hole bunt in it, and a piece of new calico, about half a yard long. At the inquest held on the 22nd instant, the medical evidence went to show that the cause of death was drowning, and the coroner's jury have returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by the government to any person who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers of the ehild, and Mr. Secretary Cross, will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon, to any accomplice not being the actual murderer, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. FORGERY. • Description of JOHN W. ELLIS, late a farmer, of Dacre Bank, charged ( on a warrant) with uttering a forged cheque for £ 15, drawn upon the North Eastern Bank, Bariow- in- Furness : about £ 0 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, turning grey. Information to be given to Chief Constable Henderson, Leeds, Yorkshire.— U'nc- street, April 5. Stolen in Newcastle- upon- Tyne, between the 28th and 29th instant, by means of housebreaking : a large- sized gold Geneva Watch, No. 2428, had a round loi, g- linked gold Albert attached ; a large- sized silver Geneva^ Watch, No. 2638, had a long silver Guard attached ; an Australian nugget finger Ring ; a suit of superfine black cloth Clothes, man's size, in good condition; a fine blue cloth shooting Coat, double- breasted, and one pocket outside, of each lap ; a pair of light striped cloth Trousers, aad a double- breasted Yest of same material ; a blue pilot cloth Jacket; a pair of dark striped tweed Trousers, and '<, single- breasted Vest of same material— all new, to fit a youth 10 years old, coat and jacket have ' George Senior, Tailor, Scotswood Road,' on strap inside of collars ; a baby's white satin Coat and Cape, trimmed with blue silk; and a man's black, puce, and yellow striped woollen Shirt, new. Information to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Tyne.— Bow- st., March 31. During the night of the 28th instant, the workshop of Thomas Wynne, shoemaker, of Barton, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a pair of old Wellington Boots, partly soled, with the lasts in them, tops inside lined with red leather ; a last Hook ; and two Awls. Supposed by a man, about 5 feet 7 inches high ; dressed in dark round jacket, and black cloth cap, with French peak, who was seen near the premises at 330 a. m. on the 29th instant. Stolen on the 29th ult., from Shrubland- road, Dalston : a light brown horse Pony, 12 hands high, in good condition. Absconded on the 30th ultimo, from Gun- street, Spital- fields, stealing 17 dozen Rabbit Skins, the property of his employer : a man, 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark ; dressed in light brown coat, dark trousers, and fur cap.— Metropolitan Police, H Division, April 5. Stolen from the Marlborough Tap common lodging- house, Ashford, Kent, on the night of the 30th ultimo: a l.' ue Guernsey, two Stove Brushes, two white Scrubbing I irusiiei', aad apiece of Clothes Line, about 24 yards long. By a man, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, stout built, and no whiskers or moustache; dressed in cord trousers, old dark cloth coat, with round hole in back, black billycock hat, with wire round brim, old lace- boots, cut up front, and no shirt. Absconded from Burbage, near Buxton, on the 22nd ultimo, charged with stealing £ 1 4s. 4d., the moneys of the Buxton Lime Company : THOMAS FINDLOW, late of Buxton, a messenger, 20 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight, swarthy complexion, nearly black hair, right arm taken off close to the shoulder ; dressed in a dirty grey suit and cap ; tramps about the country begging. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Shaw e, Chapel- en- le- Frith, or to Inspector Lowndu, Buxton, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Brno- street, April 5. Charged ( on a warraut) with embezzlement: CHARLES FRASER, late of No. 8, the Grove, Ealing, 42 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, bluish grey eyes, red hair, fresh complexion, sandy or red whiskers, and stout build ; dresses respectably. Charged on a warrant with stealing a Purse, containing 1 Sovereign in Gold, 8s. in Silver, 4 Farthings, and a watch Guard, on the 23rd ultimo, the property of John Auskland, tailor, his master, of Stow, near Gainsborough : SAMUEL MOORE, 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, brown eyes, black hair, and slim make ; dressed in dark clothes, and has a respectable appearance. He left Gainsborough on the 24th ultimo for Hull, he having friends in the East Riding of York. Description of HENRY LINGER, charged with em- bezzling a quantity of Canton Plait ( since recovered), of the value of about £ 7 : about 23 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair cut shyrt, very slight light m mstache, and has a red nose from a birth mark ; dressed when last seen in a dark overcoat, grey trousers and vest, spring- side boots, and a black felt billycock hat; he is likely to seek employmert as a clerk or porter in a hat or bonnet warehouse. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Pope, Luton, Beds, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, April 2. Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from a dwelling- house at Bulwell : a lady's gold horizontal keyless Watch, gold dial, and black figures, with a gold Albert Guard and Pendant attached, and £! 0 in Gold. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement : WILLIAM VANCE FEAST, formerly resided at Glen Cottage, Petersham, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, shaved under chin, full face, stoutly built ; dressed respectably, and of gentlemanly appearance. Absconded on the 24th instant, from Love- lane, Shad- well, stealing £ 80, the monies of his employer : a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair and moustache ; dressed in dark mixture loose overcoat, dark cloth trousers and vest, white wrapper, side- spring boots, round black felt hat, a clerk, supposed will emigrate from Liverpool.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, March 31. Abcconded from South Shields, on the 22nd instant, charged with embezzling £ 7, the property of the Directors of the Society for the Relief of Widows and Orphans of Shipwrecked Mariners : JOHN GREEN, shipbroker, a native of South Shields, 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate figure, dark complexion, rather curly black hair, long black bushy whiskers ( mixed with grey) and moustache, generally wears an eye- glass in right eye, holds his head forward when walking, of respectable appearance, very much addicted to drink, fond of horse racing, and may be found in company of betting men ; when last seen was dressed in blue witney overcoat, dark fancy vest, dark tweed trousers, black silk hat, elastic- side boots, and generally carries an umbrella. Information to be given to Head Constable Richardson, Borough Police Office, South Shields, Durham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 31. Absconded from Bristol, on or about the 2nd instant charged with embezzling £ 449, the monies of his masters, the Bristol Urban Sanitary Authority : HERBERT PALMER RIDDLE, rate collector, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, proportionate build, square shoulders, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, rather large moustache, whiskers and beard all round his face, beard freshly grown, heavy dark eyebrows and full eyes, has a nervous manner, active or quick in walking ; dressed when last seen in dark clothes, overcoat, high silk hat, and white muffler. A warrant is granted for his apprehension. £ 50 reward will be paid to any peison who will give such information to Mr. John G. Heaven, the Clerk to the Bristol Urban Sanitary Authority, or to Chief Superintendent Handcock, Bristol Police Force, as shall lead to his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 31. Stolen during the night of the 29 th instant, from the lodging- house of James Deeping, the property of George Ambrose, Sudbury, Suffolk : a dark blue double- breasted pilot Coat, with yellow buttons, anchor upon buttons ; a pair of dark blue pilot Trousers, mended on one knee, fly fronts; a pair of blucher Boots, one or two lace holes torn out ; a February last; he travels about selling whatnots and fancy tables. Charged with obtaining money by false pretences: JUBA KENNERLEY, a sea captain, 36 years of age, about about 5 feet 11 inches high, brown hair, thick and overhangs forehead, whiskers kept clipptd, and chin shaved, short face, lew forehead, high shouldered, and walks with a swaggering j gait, and i3 of medium build ; it- is supposed that lie_ will try [ to leave the couutry. £ 5 reward* at the Police Office, Town Hal£ Bow- strcet, March 31 Information to be given Birkenhead, Cheshire.— Description of JOSEPH SMITH, alias LOMAS SMITH, a tramping machinist or wire work mender, late of North Walsham, Norfolk, charged on a warrant with obtaining 8s. under false pretences from Jane, the wife of George Guyton, at Westfield, on the 13th instant: from 40 to 45 years of age, about 5 feet 11 inches high, dark hair and eyes, very dark complexion, dark whiskers round his face, walks erect, square shoulders, broad chest, and gipsy- looking ; he carries his tools in a small carpenter's basket; dressed in dark velvet coat, cord trousers, brown buskins, buckled with straps below knees, low hard black hat, scarlet and black scarf round his neck, a pin in front of scarf with some animal on it. He is accompanied by a dark gipsy- looking woman, who has a little girl with her, about 4 years of age. Stops at lodging- houses or low public- houses, where the woman and child generally stay during tne day, while he looks round the neighbourhood, calling on small shopkeepers. Information to be given to Superintendent Symonds, East Dereham, Norfolk. — Bow- street, March 25. Charged on a warrant at Dover, for beijog concerned with ANDREW SIDESMAN DANKS, in custody, remanded until the 30th instant, in obtaining money by means of false cheques, on the London and Westminster Bank : HENRY SYDNEY JONES, of 63, Grosvenor- road, Highbury New Park, London, 39 years of age, but looks younger, about 5 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, chin shaved, and whiskers cut rather close ; dressed in dark clothes, and black hat; is well known in the city, and frequents billiard rooms. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Sanders, Police Station, Dover.— Bow- street, March 25. Missing from Ludlow Union, since the 30th ultimo : SAMUEL JONES, 70 years of age, 5 feet inches high, round shouldered, and stoops very much ; dressed in pilot cloth jacket, cord trousers and vest, and soft hat. He is an idiot, known as Soft Sammy from the Bent. It is feared some ill has befallen liim. Information to be given Sergeant Lear, Bromfield, Salop.— Bow- street, April 5. Remanded to Montgomery Gaol until the 6th instant,, on a charge of picking pockets : JOHN GRIFFITHS, 55 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, pale complexion, dark, grey hair, whiskers round the chin, blue eyes, prominent nose, lost front teeth, and slightly built ; dressed in a dark cloth jacket, velvet collar, dark striped trousers, strong lace- up boots, and soft billycock hat; states that he belongs to Ireland, but has been in Eugland most of his time, at Liver- pool, Birkenhead, Wrexham, and Shrewsbury. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Newtown, Mont- gomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 2, Description of JOHN DENT, groom and gMcieiier to Joseph Parkinson, Esq., of Dodworth, who left his home at 8 a. m. on the 26th ultimo, for the purpose of going to Broom House, near Conisbro', by train ; he was last seen at the public- house near the railway station, Conisbro', the same morning, after alighting from the traiu, and it is supposed- some ill has befallen him : 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, sandy whiskers, slight moustache cut short, full face, proportionately built, and has two dimples on the forehead; dressed in black cloth jacket, dark rough vest, snuff- coloured trousers with brown stripes down the sides, and tight fitting, lace- up boots- with brass eyelet- holes, and hard black billycock hat ; has been subject to bleeding at the nose and dizziness. Description of a tran p committed to the Lindsey Prison for 21 days, under the Vagrant Act: CHARLES COLLINS,, a native of Spalding, 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache, blue eyes \ dressed in short drab slop, old cord trousers, stiff billy'hat, old lace boots, is of very dirty appearance; states he has tramped the counties of York, Nottingham, and Lincoln ; had in his possession a grey tweed Vest, supposed stolen. Remanded at Stony Stratford, charged with stealing a small silver Geneva Watch, sunk seconds, No. 650, maker H.
