Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tile Signature of the/ person requiring or sending tlie same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, ef the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Eorms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. About 3 a. m. on the 9th instant some person or persons attempted to break and enter the dwelling- house of Mrs. James Chamberlain, of Old Catton, Norwich, by cutting a hole in a shutter with a centre bit, marks of a chisel were also seen on the shutter. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Pigott, or to Detective Sergeant Hudson, County Police Station, Norwich— Bow- st., March 12. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Description of a man charged with causing the death of his daughter: WILLIAM CHORLEY, 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair and eyes, small and fair whiskers and moustache; dressed in dirty black suit and billycock hat; he frequents common lodging- houses, and may apply for admission to casual wards ; he is a natiye of Wellington, Somersetshire, aud has a relative, a baker, in Bristol.— Metropolitan Police, 11 Division, March 5. Charged with the murder of his wife Margaret Jones, at 37, Ben Johnson- street, Liverpool, on the 6th ultimo : HENRY JONES, a tramping navvy, from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 10^ inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, fair complexion, strong made, broad shoulders, rather thiu face, grey or blue eyes, rather long straight nose, and small mouth; dressed in drab shooting coat, large pockets with llaps, large white pearl or bone buttons, double- breasted vest to match, with two, rows of pearl buttons, dirty white slop over the vest, barrigan trousers, turned up at bottom of legs, short leggings underneath, heavy lace- up boots, and cap or billycock hat. He is a native of Shropshire or Welshpool. Has worked at Barrow- in- Furness and in Cheshire, and about a fortnight since was employed on a railway being made between Nottingham aud Melton Mowbray ; he is well known to contractors and sub- contractors for the con- struction of new lines of railway. Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department, has authorised the pay- ment of a reward of £ 50 to any person giving such information and evidence as will lead to his discovery and conviction. Stolen from the person iu Berwick- upon- Tweed, during the hiring fair on the 6th inst. : a double- cased silver verge Watch, white dial, cracked near vii, very old cases, much worn, maker Thomas Gibson, Berwick. Stolen from the person in the borough of Hanley, during the parliamentary election on the 10th ultimo : A gold lever centre seconds stop Watch, gold dial, maker David Talke, Market- street, Manchester, No. 26393. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Description of JAMES WARD, charged with bur- glariously breaking and entering the dwelliug- house of James Kings, of Cradley, on the night of the 11th ultimo, and stealing a quantity of Articles, since recovered : about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches higb, stoutly built, curly hair, and whiskers meeting under the chiu ; dressed in grey coat and vest, cord trousers, and white hat; generally works as a mason's labourer, and is a native of Worcester. Information to be given to Superintendent Harwood, Bromyard, Here- fordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension ; aud his photograph can be had on application.— Bow- street, March 12. During the night of the loth iustant, the dwelling- house of Mr. David French, Chatham, was broken and entered, und stolen therein: an electro- plated cruet Stand, with seven compartments; two Tops of bottles ; two silver tea Spoons, marked ' J. M. P.'; a meerschaum Pipe; and a pair of Wellington Boots, lately clumped, marked ' No. 3' inside of tops, which the offender is supposed to be wearing. Thirty- three pairs of tweed cloth Trousers, assorted, stripes of various colours, about an equal number of men's and boys' sizes, all fly fronts. A first- sized boy's knickerbocker Suit of blue diagonal cloth, trimmed with tracing braid. A double- breasted fancy black diagonal worsted shooting Coat, fancy black cloth buttons. A single- breasted Yest, same cloth as above, three pockets in breast, lined with slate- coloured cotton. A pair of canary- coloured worsted cord Trousers, tight in legs, for a groom, fly front, white metal buttons. Thirty- six tweed cloth Vests, men's and boys' sizes, assorted, striped and plain, some double- breasted with and without collars, some single- breasted, all lined with cotton cloth. A piece of dark grey twilled tweed Cloth, with a raised thread in it, about 6 yards long. A piece of blue pilot Cloth, about 6 yards long. Two pieces of brown beaver Cloth, each yards long. About twelve woollen Shirts, men's size, assorted stripes, ami checks, lined across shoulders with unbleached cotton cloth, all pearl buttoa ® .. Two check wiusey Shirts, boys' size. Entrance effected by back door and door post being burned, by some means, so as to expose the lock bolt, which had been then forced open by a piece of iron resembling an old plough coulter, and an inner door appears to have been forced open- by the same weapon ; footprints of several parties were observed in the snow at the back of the premises, and a spring; cart or other light machine is believed to have been employed in the removal of the property. About 12 p. m. on the 27th ultimo a man, dressed in dark clothes, and wearing a largo muffler concealing his face, was seen in a close near shop back door, was casually spokeu to, and replied with Irish accent. Between 7 and 9 p. m. on the 5th instant, the Railway- Tavern, Higham, was eutered and stolen about £ 46 ; a double- case 1 silver Watch ; a large- sized gold Brooch, formed four rings linked together : a pair of gold Ear- rings, to match brooch; a large gold Brooch, centre blank for photo ; one small gold Brooch, set round with rubies ; one plain Brooch, centre blank ; and two gold Torquise Rings, ladies' size. Information to be given to Superintendent Glasier, Milden- hall, Suffolk.— Bow- street, Match 10. About 3 a. m. on the 6th instant, a cottage near the church at Stoke- by- Nayland, was broken into by two men, and a pair- case* silver Watch, No. C 41205, London, with steel [ Chain and two brass Keys attached, and 8s. or 9s., stolen ; the property of James Coleman. Information to be given to Superintendent Chapman, Suffolk Constabulary, Boxford.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, between 10 p. m. 0 ® %, the 6th and 7' a. m. on the 7th instant, from No. 1, Thomas- street, Rodborne Cheney, the property of Mr. Robert Car- penter, grocer : a Timepiece, in rosewood case, about 15 ins. high, English make ; a pair of dark cloth Riding Trousers, with strap buttons ; a Table Cover, green and black cloth ; a cotton Haudkerchief, with red border ; a chamber Towel, marked ' No, 2, R. B. C.' iu black cotton ; a pair of Drawing Compasses; a meerschaum Cigar Holder, in red morocco case; a Box of Cigars, ' Prince of Wales' brand on box ; 2 lbs. Bacon, 1 lb. fresh Butter, 1 lb. Bell Tobacco in ounce packets, 1 lb. White's Black Boy ditto, in half- ounces; and 13s. iu Money. Iuformation to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, March 8. On the evening of the 28th ultimo, a cottage at Burwell, near Newmarket, was broken and entered, and stolen : two silver table Spocns, marked ' O. S. C.'; six silver tea Spoons, marked ' A. C.'; two silver salt Spoons; a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; 2s„ of the reign of Elizabeth ; and two gold Rings, one a weddiug ring, the other a keeper, both old and broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, Newmarket, Cambridge.— Bow- street, March 5. A IB CATTLE STEALING, Description of a man who is charged with stealing a Bullock, since recovered, the property of J. Jones, of the Wells Farm, Cradley, near Malvern, on the 17th ult.: about 40 yrs. of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches higb, stoutly built, fair com- plexion, light hair and whiskers, and inclined to be sandy ; dressed in dark grey coat or jacket, light- coloured trousers, and new soft billycock hat. lias the appearance of a farm bailiff. Information to be given to Superintendent Harwood, Bromyard, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, March~ 12. Stolen duriug the night of the 2nd instant, at Cove, Hants, the property of Mr. Edward Nash, a valuable bay Mare, 5 years old, about 15 hauds high, has good action, near hind leg white ; also a dark brown Dogcart, picked out with red, raised splash rail, plated wheel caps, marked ' Rumball, 37, Long- acre'; and a set of plated Harness, initials ' E. N.' £ 25 reward will be paid by Mr. Nash on recovery of the stolen property and conviction of the offenders. Stolen on the 22nd ultimo, from Perry Hill, Lewisham : a dark bay half- bred Gelding, 6 years old, 15 hands high, black leg3, mane, and tail, small saddle mark, slightly lame of off fore leg, and small chip on knees,— Metropolitan Police, P Division, March 5. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLE! Charged on a warrant with larceny : LOUIS PHILIP CROSS, late of 2, Derby Cottages, London- road, Plaistow, Essex, 36 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown- grey hair, blown whiskers and moustache, grey eyes, fair complexion, slightly high shouldered, a somewhat stooping gait, front top tooth deficient, rather slender build, and is a commercial traveller. JOHN KEMP, late of 224, Euston- road, 33 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, shadow complexion, brown eyes, thin dark straight hair aud whiskers, small moustache, large high square shoulders, broad chest, a deep scar left forefinger, warts on right hand, a swaggering gait, aud a clerk. JOHN ROBERTS, 1, Catmore- buildings, Buckingham- Ipalace- road, Pimlico, a Welshman, 32 years of age, 5 ft. 5 ins, high, stumpy figure, thick dark red hair, beard and moustache, POLICE GAZETTE. March 12 rather fresh colour, restless maimer, and snuffles after speak- ing, and is a warehouseman. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 12. Stolen on the 5th instant, from the dwelling- house of John Hindmarch, at Sunderland Bridge : a silver lever Watch, No. 15603, maker E. Fryde, Sunderland, had a gold plated Albert Guard, short round links, aud small round Locket attached. By JOSEPH BENT, alias BERRARD, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, grey eyes ancl hair, slight moustache and whiskers round the face ; dressed in blue coat, fustian trousers and vest, hard felt hat, and elastic- side boots ; he is generally employed as blacksmith or striker about collieries. Also stolen, on the 6th instant, at Willingtou, the property of Miles Newton : a silver lever Watch, No. 18065, has ' Thomas Wakefield' on dial and works. Absconded from Windsor, en the 8th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling large sums of Money : THOS. HOLDMAY, a solicitor's clerk, about 40 years of age, looks younger, about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark complexion, very dark hair, cut short, moustache, stout make, small feet and hands ; he is very fond of singing, has left a wife and eight children destitute, and has friends living at Bedford. Information to be given to Superintendent Hayes, Police Office, Windsor, Berks.— Bow- street, March 12. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Mr. William Davis, engineer, High- street, Wednesfield, about 11 a. m., on the 9th instant: two £ 5 Notes, which were afterwards cashed by a man, who has absconded, named JOSEPH TILLETT, labourer and a lodger, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair, small dark moustache, fair complexion, grey eyes, upper lid of left eye partly cut away, and e3' e blood- shot, marked with letter ' D' on left side, and end of left thumb cut off; dressed in blue- black ribbed cloth coat, plaid vest, black cloth trousers, white and dark red muffler, hard bVick billycock hat, and watertight boots, with brass hooks at top. He was discharged from the Royal Horse Artillery E Battery C Brigade about three years ago, and has relatives at Molden- ro;- td, Colchester, Essex. Information to be given to Sergeant Goodall, Police Station, New Cross, Wednesfield Heatb, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 12. Description of a woman who absconded from Weymouth on the 22nd December last, charged with stealing : a Dress, a Bonnett, aud 5s., the property of one Mary Norster :— MARGARET COBBETT, 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, light hair, rather slight build, and very much given to drink; she is a tailoress, and native of London. Information to be given to Superintendent Vickery, Weymouth, Dorsetshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, March 12. Stolen on the 15th ultimo, from a gentleman's room, in New College, Oxford : a meerschaum Pipe, in case, recovered. Also on the 17th ultimo : a gold English lever Watch, engine- turned back, white face, black figures, seconds hand, gold hands, and medium size, maker Charles Frodsham, No. 18058 ; a gold Chain, the end lost; and a plain gold Ring, bloodstone, unengraved. By JAMES COLSTONE, 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, slight moustache, no beard or whiskers, walks straight, but weak in the knees ; he purchased his discharge from the 41st Regiment of Foot about August last, talks broadly, having served some time in Ireland. Stolen from the borough of Blackburn : From No. 35, Henrietta- street, on the 28th January last: one pair of men's light striped cloth Trousers, brown horn buttons, fly fronts, with pocket behind ; one light cloth Yest to match; one dark blue twilled cloth shooting Coat, two outside pockets, one inside left breast, ticket pocket at right side, with ' J. Gallagher' on tab behiad ; oue black cloth Vest, double breasted, with blue and white striped lining ; one pair of men's elastic side Boots, plain block fronts, about half worn ; one woman's slate- coloured merino Dress; one ditto black cloth Jacket, with black fancy buttons ; one ditto white cotton Skirt; and one blue sham bury Petticoat ; the property of Mr. Ernest Bolton, mechanic. The Dress has been recovered. By MARY SMITH, School- street, ( which is false); she is about 30 years, about 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, swarthy complexion, and dark hair ; dressed in a brown stuff dress, dark shaw 1, dirty appearance, and had a child with her about twelve months old. From a pawnshop in Great Bolton- street, on the 5th ult. : one printed Frock, the property of Mr. Daniel Holme Parkinson. The Frock is recovered. By MARIA DEAN, alias MARIA ASPIN ; she is about 28 years of age, fresh complexion, brown hair, round face, very prominent front teeth ; dressed in a black and red shawl, dark dress, and clogs, no bonnet, aud has previously resided at Accrington. From 84, Chapel- street, on the 24th ultimo : a man's blue rough pilot Suit; one pair of men's dark tweed Trousers, with hole in knee and seat; one black cloth Cap, with soft peak ; one woman's French merino Dress, five flounces in skirt behind, 15 rows of black velvet in front, and silk velvet buttons up each side ; one red French merino Dress, trimmed on breast with black lace, and three flounces in skirt; two women's black cloth Jackets ; one Paisley Shawl, nearly new; one black aud red Shawl, nearly new ; one woman's red cloth Skirt; one ditto red stuff Skirt; three women's light printed Skiits ; two white Skirts ; three cotton Sheets ; one Blanket; two pairs of women's elastic side Boots ; two women's diaper Aprons ; one worsted puce spotted Dress ; one light- blown flounced Petticoat ; and two linen flowered Table Covers; the property of Mr. Patrick Linskey aud Miss M. Coolaghan. And his wife, MARY KEENAN, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet high, fresh complexion, and brown hair ; dressed in black dress, shawl, and bonnet, and old boots. They had lodgings in the house about a fortnight. The Sheets and Blankets are pledged at Mr. Lund's pawnshop, King- street, by the female prisoner, in the name of MARY KELLY. X ' Stolen, 27th ultimo, from ' Upper Charlton- street, Mary- lebone : four Watches, one gold I ever, maker Gemthony, Cheapside, No. 3096, one silver Lever, maker Arlis, No. 105, one silver Geneva hunter, No. 45,007, aud the other a silver Geneva Lever ; a gold albert Chain, curb pattern ; and three burnishing Tools, gilders'. By a woman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair and eyes, and drsssed in a light stuff skirt, velvet jacket, and drab felt hat trimmed with velvet. Supposed to be singing at the Shepherd and Shepherdess music- hall, Brompton, near Chatham, or at Barnett's music- hall, Chaham.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 8. Absconded from Bristol, charged under warrant for embezzling the sum of £ 449, the moneys of the Bristol Urban Sanatory Authorties : HERBERT PALMER RIDDLE, rate collector, late of Bishopston, Gloucestershire, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, proportionately built, small brown whiskers all round his face, small mous- tache, dark brown hair, ruddy complexion, and lisps ; he is of nervous temperament and addicted to drinking; dressed when last seen in dark cloth overcoat, high silk hat, and white muffler. Information to be given to Chief Superinten- dent Handcock, Bristol, Gloucestershire.— Bow- st., March 8. Stolen on the 5th instant, from the boot and shoe shop of John Round, of Albert- street, Smethwick : a pair of men's Boots, elastic sides, clumped, No. 6 size ; and a pair of lady's Boots, patent toecaps, kid let in tops. By a woman, from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather thin features, several front teeth deficient, of respectable appear- ance and good address; dressed in deep mourning, black crape bonnet with crape fall, and black velvet cape trimmed with black crape. Description of two men who absconded from Smeth- wick, about the 22nd January last, charged with stealing a large quantity of Pig Lead from a siding on the London and North Western Railway, at Soho, near Birmingham : One about 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, no beard or whiskers, full face, high cheek bones, and has served in the 2nd Stafford Regiment of Militia ; dressed in a black billycock hat, brown cloth overcoat, light cloth trousers, and blucher boots. The other from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 10 ins. high, thin face, much freckled and pockmarked, tuft of sandy hair on chin, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in old black cloth jackct, moleskin trousers and vest, and old lace- up boots. He generally works at brickyaids or on railwayb, frequents low public or beer houses, and sings Irish and comic songs, and lie seldom stays long in one place. P. Ward, of Teignmouth. The parties at the time were located at Andover, and had procured a cheque' book from the Andover Branoh of the Hampshire Banking Company, where they had a small deposit, and forwarded one cheque to Mr. Ward, which was honored, but a second cheque was returned marked ' not provided for.' It has been ascer- tained that the parties had been living at a public- house in Andover for about ten days, aud that on receiving the fish, re- consigned one portion to Mr. Smith, at Salisbury, and quitted Andover themselves for Salisbury the same daj.
