Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to tho Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. MUEDEE AND MALICIOUSLY W01JIBIIG, Description of a man charged with causing the death of his daughter: WILLIAM CHORLEY, 45 years of age, 5 feet C inches higb, fair complexion, dark hair and eyes, small and fair whiskers and moustache; dressed in dirty black suit and billycock hat; he frequents common lodging- houses, and may apply for admission to casual wards ; he is a natiye of Wellington, Somersetshire, and has a relative, a baker, in Bristol,— Metropolitan Police, B. Division, March 5. Charged with the murder of his wife Margaret Jones, at 37, Beu Johnson- street, Liverpool, on the 6th ultimo : HENRY JONES, a tramping navvy, from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 10^- inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, fair complexion, strong made, broad shoulders, rather thin face, grey or blue eyes, rather long straight nose, and small mouth; dressed in drab shooting coat, large pockets with flaps, large white pearl or bone buttons, double- breasted vest to match, with two rows of pearl buttons, dirty white slop over the vest, barrigan trousers, turned up at bottom of legs, short leggings underneath, heavy lace- up boots, and cap or billycock hat. He is a native of Shropshire or Welshpool. Has worked at Barrow- in- Furness and in Cheshire, and about a fortnight since was employed on a railway being made between Nottingham and Melton Mowbray; he is well known to contractors and sub- contractors for the con- struction of new lines of railway. Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department, has authorised the pay- ment of a reward of ,£ 50 to any person giving such information and evidence as will lead to his discovery and conviction. A pair of canary- coloured worsted cord Trousers, tight in legs, for a groom, fiy front, white metal buttons. Thirty- six tweed cloth Vests, men's and boys' sizes, assorted, striped and plain, some double- breasted with and without collars, some siDgle- breasted, all lined with cotton cloth. A piece of dark grey twilled tweed Cloth, with a raised thread in it, about 6 yards long. A piece of blue pilot Cloth, about 6 yards long. Two pieces of brown beaver Cloth, each yards long. About twelve woollen Shirts, men's size, assorted stripes and checks, lin'ed across shoulders with unbleached cotton cloth, all pearl buttons. Two check winsey Shirts, boys' size. Entrance effected by back door and door post being burned by some means, so as to expose the lock bolt, which had been then forced open by a piece of iron resembling an old plough coulter, and an inner door appears to have been forced open by the same weapon ; footprints of several parties were observed in the snow at the back of the premises, and a spring cart or other light machine is believed to have been employed in the removal of the property. About 12 p. m. on the 27th ultimo a man, dressed in dark clothes, and wearing a large muffler concealing his face, was seen in a close near shop back door, was casually spoken to, ancl replied with Irish accent. Between 7 and 9 p. m. on the 5th instant, the Railway Tavern, Higham, was entered and stolen about £ 46 ; double- easel silver Watch; a large- sized gold Brooch, formed four rings linked together: a pair of gold Ear- riDgs, to match brooch; a large gold Brooch, centre blank for photo ; one small gold Brooch, set round with rubies ; one plain Brooch, centre blank; and two gold Torquise Rings, ladies' size. About 3 a. m. on the 6th instant, a cottage near the church at Stoke- by- Nayland, was broken into by two men, and a pair- casej silver Watch, No. C 41205, London, with steel jChain and two brass Keys attached, and 8s. or 9s., stolen ; the'prepcrty of James Coleman. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, between 10 p. m. on the 6th and 7 a. m. on the 7th instant, from No. 1, Thomas- street, Rodborne Cheney, the property of Mr. Robert Car- penter, grocer : a Timepiece, in rosewood case, about 15 ins. high, English make ; a pair of dark cloth Riding Trousers, with strap buttons ; a Table Cover, green and black cloth ; a cotton Handkerchief, with red border ; a chamber Towel, marked ' No, 2, R. B. C.' in black cotton ; a pair of Drawing Compasses; a meerschaum Cigar - Holder, in red rr. orocco case; a Box of Cigars, ' Prince of Wales' brand on box ; 2 lbs. Bacon, 1 lb. fresh Butter, 1 lb. Bell Tobacco in ounce packets, 1 lb. White's Black Boy ditto, in half- ounces; and 13s. in Money. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, Mwch 8. On the evening of the 28th ultimo, a cottage at Burwell, near Newmarket, was broken and entered, and stolen : two silver table Spoons, marked ' O. S. C.'; six silver tea Spoons, marked ' A. C.'; two silver salt Spoons; a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; 2s., of the reign of Elizabeth ; and two gold RiDgs, one a redding ring, the other a keeper, both oil and broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, Newmarket, Cambridge.— Bow- street, March 5. During the night of the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr.? James Scott, High House, Alnwick, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therein : twelve silver tea Spoons, marked ' J. S.'; nine silver dessert Spoons, marked ' J. S.'; four silver tea Spoons, marked ' B.' ; a silver soup Ladle; twelve electro- plated table Forks; twelve table Knives, white handles, stamped on blade ' Jamison & Co., Newcastle'; five dessert Knives, scamped on blade ' Jamison and Co., Newcastle'; £ 14 10s. in Gold ; and £ 2 5s. in Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Harkes, Alnwick, Northumberland.— Bow- street, March 3. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 2nd instant, at Cove, Hants, the property of Mr. Edward Nash, a valuable bay- Mare, 5 years old, about 15 hauds high, has good action, near hind leg white ; also a dark brown Dog Cart, picked out with red, raised splash rail, plated wheel caps, marked ' Rumball, 37, Long- acre'; and a set of plated Harness, initials ' E. N.' £ 25 reward will be paid by Mr. Nash on recovery of tho stolen property and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabu- lary, Aldershot.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen on the 22nd ultimo, from Perry Hill, Lewisham : a dark bay half- bred Gelding, 6 years old, 15 hands high, black legs, mane, and tail, small saddle mark, slightly lame of off fore leg, and small chip on knees.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, March 5. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the 15th ultimo, from a gentleman's room, in New College,- Oxford : a meerschaum Pipe, in case, recovered. Also on the 17th ultimo : a gold English lever Watch, engine- turned back, white face, black figures, seconds hand, gold hands, and medium size, maker Charles Frodsham, No. 18058 ; a gold Chain, the end lost; and a plain gold Ring, bloodstone, uueugraved. By JAMES COLSTONE, 24 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, alight moustache, no beard or whiskers, walks straight, but weak in the knees ; he purchased his discharge from the 41st Regiment o£ Foot about August last, talks broadly, having served some time in Ireland. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Oxford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 10. Stolen from the borough of Blackburn : From No. 35, Henrietta- street, on the 28th January last: one pair of men's light striped cloth Trousers, brown horn buttons, fly fronts, with pocket behind ; one light cloth Vest to match; one dark blue twilled cloth shooting Coat, two outside pockets, one inside left breast, ticket pocket at right side, with ' J. Gallagher' on tab behind ; one black cloth Vest, double breasted, with blue and white striped lining ; one pair of men's elastic side Boots, plain block fronts, about half worn ; one woman's slate- coloured merino Dress; one ditto black cloth Jacket, with black fancy buttons ; one ditto white cotton Skirt; and one blue shambury Petticoat; the property of Mr. Ernest Bolton, mechanic. The Dress has been recovered. Absconded from Chatham, about the 6th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzling various sums of Money : STEPHEN STYLES, a warehouseman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, cut close, short light moustache and whiskers ; dressed in dark monkey jacket, grey tweed trousers, and black billy- cock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent OOppinger, Police Court, Chatham, Kent. — Bow- street, March 10. Stolen, 27th ultimo, from Upper Charlton- street, Mary- lebone : four Watches, one gold Lever, maker Gemthony, Cheapside, No. 3096, one silver Lever, maker Arlis, No. 105, one silver Geneva hunter. No. 45,007, and the other a silver Geneva Lever ; a gold albert Chain, curb pattern ; and three burnishing Tools, gilders'. By a woman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair and eyes, and dressed in a light stuff skirt, velvet jacket, and drab felt hat trimmed with velvet. Supposed to be singing at the Shepherd and Shepherdess music- hall, Brompton, near Chatham, or at Barnett's music- hall, Chaham,— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 8. Absconded from Bristol, charged under warrant for embezzling the sffm of £ 449, the moneys of the Bristol Urban Sanatory Authorties : HERBERT PALMER RIDDLE, rate collector, late of Bishopston, Gloucestershire, about 25 yea^ s of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, pi^ portionately built, small tirown whiskers all round his face, small mous- tache, dark brown hair, ruddy complexion, and lisps; he is of nervous temperament and addicted to drinking; dressed when jast seen in dark cloth overcoat, high silk hat, and white * muffler. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Handcock, Bristol, Gloucestershire. — Bow- street, March 8. Stolen on the 5th instant, from the boot and shoe shop of John Round, of Albert- street, Smethwick : a pair of men's Boots, elastic sides, clumped, No. 6 size ; and a pair of lady's Boots, patent'toecaps, kid let in tops. By a woman, from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather thin features, several front teeth deficient, of respectable appear- ance and good address; dressed in deep mourning, black crape bonnet with crape fall, and black velvet cape trimmed with black crape. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliams, Police Station, Smethwick, near Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Boio- strect, March 8. Description of two men who absconded from Smeth- wick, about the 22nd January last, charged with stealing a large quantity of Pig Lead from a siding on the London and North Western Railway, at Soho, near Birmingham : One about 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, no beard or whiskers, full face, high cheek bones, and has served in the 2ad Stafford Regiment of Militia ; dressed in a black billycock hat, brown cloth overcoat, light cloth trousers, aud blucher boots. The other from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 10 ins. high, thin face, much freckled aud pockmarked, tuft of sandy hair on chin, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in old black cloth jacket, moleskin trousers and vest, and old lace- up boots. Both men are labourers, and have been employed in iron- works. Iuformation to be given to Inspector McWilliams, Police Station, Smethwick, near Birmingham, Warwickshire. — Bow- street, March 8. Absconded, on the 17th ultimo, from Mortimer- street, Cavendish- square, charged with einbezzling various sums of Motley, and also for Forging an endorsement to a Cheque for £ 18 4s.: a man, 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair and eyes, and stoutly built; dressed in black frock coat and vest, grey trousers, and high black hat, a clerk, and of respectable appearance.— Metropo- litan Police, E Division, March 5. Stolen from the ' Granby' inn. Melton Mowbray, during the night of the 27th ultimo : a blue pilot Coat, nearly new, red and black check lining, black bone buttons, two outside and one inside pockets ; a pair of moleskin Trousers ; a cord Waistcoat, with white bone buttons ; a calico Shirt, mended OD shoulders ; a pair of blue worsted Stockings ; and a pair of brown leather Leggings ; the property of Richard Lee, a lodger at the above inn. By a fellow lodger named JOHN PAYNE, alius GLORY PAYNE, alias LEICESTER JACK, 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, clean shaved, rather fresh looking, and has a large scar by the side of one eye ; dressed in the stolen clothes, and a brown cloth cap, with a tassel on the top. . He generally works at brickyards or on railways, frequents low public or beer houses, and sings Irish and comic songs, and he seldom stays long in one place. Information to be given to Superintendent Platts, Leicestershire Constabulary, Melton Mowbray, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 5. Description of WALTER BULLIN GENT, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of Money ( he had been, up to the 25th ultimo, for four years a clerk in the Custom- house at Sunderland) : about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark hair parted down the front, dark sallow complexion, small dark whiskers and moustache, and smart appearance, a native of King's- Lynn, Norfolkshire ; dressed in a light drab overcoat, black felt hat, and check tweed suit; he is very fond of the company of music- hall singers ; when last seen he wore a valuable diamond ring, which he is likely to disposj of. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stainsby, Sunderland, Durham.— Bow- street, March 5. > Absconded on the 24 th ull imo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: JAMES BARRY, about 38 years o£ age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, rather curly, beard and moustache, bald from forehead to back of head, and the hair from side of head combed over bald part, stout build, nails of thumbs much bitten, and the fleshy part projecting over the nails ; well dressed, a clerk. £ 10 reward on apprehension. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, March 3. Description of CAROLINE MAY, charged with stealing £ 3 10s. at Tillington, on the 30th January : she is 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin face, fresh complexion, and light brown hair ; dressed in a brown dress, with light stripe, black cloth jacket, black bonnet, with blue trimming and strings, and elastic- side boots ; she took a ticket at Petworth Railway Station for Victoria Station, and is supposed to be in London. Information to be given to Superintendent Kemmish, West Sussex Constabulary, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bow- street, March 3. Further information respecting GEORGE ALBERT SKELLEY, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th Jauuary last, charged with larceny at Market Drayton : he is a cooper, 25 to 30 years of age, brown hair, little over 5 feet high ; he is supposed to be living with a young woman who left Drayton to join him on the 22nd ultimo : she is 18 years of age, slender, dark brown hair, dark complexion ; he is supposed to be working for some cooper. Information to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Ho wells, Market Drayton, Salop. — Bow- street, March 3. He absconded from Hitchin on the night of the 24th ultimo, by the G. N. Railway to London, and stopped at the G. N. R. Hotel, King's Cross, accompanied by a woman ; they left the hotel in a cab about 11' 30 a. m.. 25th ultimo. The dead body of a woman unknown, was found in the river Avon, at Saltford, near Bath, on the 27th ultimo : she is about 24 years of age, 4 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout built, black curly hair, good teeth ; dressed in a black lace bonnet, with May flowers, violet linsey dress, body with a brown skirt, a blue skirt underneath, a black pannier, part of an old striped horse cloth worn as an apron, brown stays, chemise, white stockings, and old elastic- side boots, all the clothing much worn. The body appeared to have been in the water from 10 to 14 days : on the forehead was a contused ragged wound, about 4^ inches in length, and another wound across the bridge of the nose. The coroners inquest is adjourned until the 9th instant. JAMES McCANN, stonemason, a native of Glasgow, 22 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light hair, no whiskers, fair complexion, aud small light moustache ; dressed in a blue pilot cloth jacket, tweed waistcoat, light tweed trousers, imitation sealskin cap, white slop under coat, and a pair of light shoes; states that he had resided all his life at Glasgow until July, 1874, when he obtained employment on the above railway at Armathwaite, where he has been working ever since. Found on the 12th ultimo, in the ladies' water closet at the Midland Railway Station, Gloucester: a male Child, alive, about 5 weeks old, dressed in a calico roller round the body, 1J yard long, sewn and joined in centre, a fine linen shirt, with chain crochet round sleeves, a cctton back roller, 11 back flannel made out of an old petticoat, lined partly up the back with calic ® , two large napkins, made of rough sheeting, calico bedgown, marked with red cotton in peculiar shaped letters or figures, the bedgown has edging round the neck and wrists, and in front is a piece of crochet, a lawn cap, with two borders, and a skull cap underneath. The child was wrapped up in a large plaid apron, black ground and blue stripes, about § inch in pattern, black binding round the top aud wide black strings. WOODVINE, or WOODFINE, farm labourer, a native of Welshampton, Salop, committed for trial for obtaining a pair of Boots, by false pretences : he is 23 years of age, but looks 2 or 3 years older, 5 feet inches high, brown eyes, black hair- and whiskers, rather thin moustache : was dressed in dark blue prison uniform, ankle shoes, coarse blue worsted socks, blue and white striped shirt, and braces, made one side of cloth, and the other of canvas, without leather at ends, down looking, and apparently of quiet disposition, he may very likely be now wearing the socks, shirt, and braces, and will probably have shaved off his whiskers and moustache ; has been several times convicted in Shropshire, has worked on board vessels as a coal trimmer, is said to be a deserter from Her Majesty's Service, and may have re- enlisted, it is also supposed that he is finding shelter in Brymbo, Minera,, Constable Sheasby, Macclesfield, Cheshire. — Bow- street, or at some place between here and his home ; has relatives living both in Manchester and Liverpool.
