IVotice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed Offenders, or stolen property, may liear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and a worn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all letters addressed to the Editor must toe prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should he forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDIKG. Description of a man charged with causing the death of his daughter: WILLIAM CHORLEY, 45 years * t age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair and eyes, small and fair whiskers and moustache; dressed in dirty black suit and billycock hat; he frequents common lodging- houses, and may apply for admission to casual wards ; he is a natiye of Wellington, Somersetshire, and has a relative, a baker, in Bristol.- - Metropolitan Police, B Division, March 5, Charged with the murder of his wife Margaret J ones, at 37, Ben Johnson- street, Liverpool, on the 6th ultimo HENRY JONES, a tramping navvy, from 45 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 10J inches high, sandy hair and whiskers, fair complexion, strong made, broad shoulders, rather thin face, grey or blue eyes, rather long straight nose, and small mouth; dressed in drab shooting coat, large pockets with flaps, large whits pearl or bone buttons, double- breasted vest to match, with two rows of pearl buttons, dirty white slop over the vest, barrigan trousers, turned up at bottom of legs, short leggings underneath, heavy lace- up boots, and cap or billycock hat. He is a native of Shropshire or Welshpool. Has worked at Barrow- in- Furness and in Cheshire, and about a fortnight since was employed on a railway being made between Nottingham and Melton Mowbray ; he is well known to contractors and sub- contractors for the con- struction of new lines of railway. Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department, has authorised the pay- ment of a reward of .£ 50 to any person giving such information and evidence as will lead to his discovery and conviction. B. C.' in black cotton ; a pair of Drawing Compasses; a meerschaum Cigar Holder, iu red morocco case; a Box of Cigars, ' Prince of Wales' brand on box ; 2 lbs. Bacon, 1 lb. fresh Butter, 1 lb. Bell Tobacco in ounce packets, 1 lb. White's Black Boy ditto, in half- ounces; and 13s. in Money. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon.— Bow- street, March ~ On the evening of the 28th ultimo, a cottage at Burwell, near Newmarket, was broken and entered, and stolen : two silver table Spoons, marked ' 0. S. C.'; six silver tea Spoons, marked ' A. C.'; two silver salt Spoons; a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; 2s„ of the reign of Elizabeth ; and two gold Rings, one a wedding ring, the other a keeper, both old and broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Benson, Newmarket, Cambridge.— Bow- street, March 5. During the night of the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. JJames'„ Scott, jHigh House, Alnwick, was broken into, and th* e following articles stolen therein: twelve silver tea Spoons, marked ' J. S.'; nine silver dessert Spoons, marked * J. S.'; four silver tea_ Spoons, marked ' B.'; a silver soup Ladle; twelve electro- plated table Forks ; twelve table Knives, white handles, stamped on blade ' Jamison & Co., Newcastle'; five dessert Knives, scamped on blade ' Jamison and Co., Newcastle'; £ U 10s. in Gold ; and £ 2 5s. in Silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Harkes, Alnwick, Northumberland.— Bow- street, March 3. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person in the borough of Hanley, during the parliamentary election on the 16th ultimo : A gold lever centre seconds stop Watch, gold dial, maker David Talke, Market- street, Manchester, No. 26393. Also a silver lever hunting Watch, No. 4646, maker J. H. Jackson, Tunstall. Information to be given to Chief Constable Williams, Police Office, Hanley, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen from the person of Mr. John Granger, at Cotten- ham Steeplechase, on the 18th ult. : a gold Geneva Watch, No. 41522, having attached to it a gold Albert Chain, a plain gold Locket, a Ring without stoue, a Compass, and a Key. £ 10 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Absconded frcm Leeds, charged with assault and robbery on the 22nd ultimo : ANTHONY GROGAN, a private in the 25th Foot, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, rather stout build, fresh complexion, sandy hair cut short, no beard, slight moustache, long eyelashes, small eyes, supposed grey, and the lower lip hangs, down a little. Infor- mation to be given at the Central Police Office, Town Hall, Leeds, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, March 1. white muffler. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Handcock, Bristol, Gloucestershire. — Bow- streit, March 8. Stolen on the 5th instant, from the boot and shoe shop of John Round, of Albert- street, Smethwick : a pair of men's Boots, elastic sides, clumped, No. 6 size ; and a pair of lady's Boots, patent toecaps, kid let in tops. By a woman, from 45 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather thin features, several front teeth deficient, of respectable appear- ance and good address; dressed iu deep mourning, black crape bonnet with crape fall, and black velvet cape trimmed with black crape. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliams, Police Station, Smethwick, near Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, March 8. Description of two men who absconded from Smeth- wick, about the 22nd Jauuary last, charged with stealing a large quantity of Pig Lead from a siding on the London and North Western Railway, at Soho, near Birmingham : One about 20 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, no beard or whiskers, full face, high cheek bones, and has served in the 2ad Stafford Regiment of Militia ; dressed in a black billycock hat, brown cloth overcoat, light cloth trousers, and blucher boots. The other from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 10 ins. high, thin face, much freckled and pockmarked, tuft of sandy hair on chin, and no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in old black cloth jacket, moleskin trousers and vest, and old lace- up boots. Both men are labourers, and have been employed in iron- works. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliams, Police Station, Smethwick, near Birmingham, Warwickshire. — Bow- street, March 8. Absconded, on the 17th ultimo, from Mortimer- street, Cavendish- square, charged with embezzling various sums, of Money, and also for Forging an endorsement to a Cheque for ,£ 18 4i, : a man, 34 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair - and eyes, and stoutly built; dressed in black frock coat and vest, grey trousers, and high 37, Long- acre'; and a set of plated Harness, initials ' E. Description of a lad who gave the name of BUROW, who said that he came from a school at Maidenhead, about 16 years of age, tall for his age, pale thin face, long dark hair; dressed in dark clothes, college hat, light mackintosh, black velvet collar, and stated he was going to Hounsbw to fetch his mother, charged with stealiug a cob Horse and dog Cart, which he hired from the Bull Inn, Windsor : the cob is about 14 hands high, light cream colour, black mark from shoulders to tail, about 1 inch wide, mane on right side of neck, has been clipped some time since, under lip hangs low, tail about 2 feet long ; the dog cart is small, painted black pieked out with red, tail board marked ' Knowles & Son, Windsor,' which is covered with oilcloth, and is a small dice pattern. Five guineas reward will be paid on the apprehension and HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen during the night of the 2nd instant, at Cove, Hants, the property of Mr. Edward Nash, a valuable bay Mare, 5 years old, about 15 hands high, has good action, near hind leg white ; also a dark brown Dog^ Cart, picked out with red, raised splash rail, plated wheel caps, marked ' Rumball, lodger at the above inn. By a fellow lodger named JOHN PAYNE, alias GLORY PAYNE, alias LEICESTER JACK, _ 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair, clean shaved, rather fresh looking, and has a large scar by the side of one eye ; dressed in the stolen clothes, and a brown cloth cap, with a tassel on the top. He generally works at brickyaids or on railways, frequents low public or beer hcuses, and sings Irish and comic songs, and he seldom stays long in one place. Information to be given to Superintendent Platts, Leicestershire Constabulary, Melton Mowbray, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, March 5. Description of WALTER BULLIN GENT, charged on a warrant with embezzling several sums of Money ( he had been, up to the 25th ultimo, for four years a clerk in the conviction of the offender and recovery of the cob and dog - Custom- house at Sunderland) : about 25 years of age, 5 feet cart, by the treasurer of the Windsor Association. Charged with stealing a Bullock, the property of Mr. James Jones, of the Wells Farm, Cradley, near Malvern ( since recovered), on the 17th instant. A man, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light hair and whiskers, inclined to be sandy; dressed in dark grey coat or jacket, light coloured trousers, and new soft billycock hat. Has the appearance of a farm bailiff. Information to be given to Superintendent Har- wood, Bromyard, or to Sergeant Ovens, Cradley, near Malvern, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, February 26. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen, 27th ultimo, from Upper Charlton- street, Mary- lebone : four Watches, one gold I ever, maker Gemthony, Cheapside, No. 3096, one silver Lever, maker Arlis, No. 105, one / silver Geneva hunter, No. 45,007, and the other a silver Geneva Lever ; a gold albert Chain, curb pattern ; and three burnishing Tools, gilders'. By a woman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair and eyes, and dressed in a light stuff skirt, velvet jacket, and drab felt . hat trimmed with velvet. Supposed to be singing at the Shepherd and Shepherdess music- hall, Brompton, near Chatham, or at Barnett's music- hall, Chaham.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 8. Absconded from Bristol, charged under warrant for embezzling the sum of £ 449, the moneys of the Bristol Urban Sanatory Authorties: HERBERT PALMER RIDDLE, rate collector, late of Bishopston, Gloucestershire, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, proportionately- built, small brown whiskers all round his face, small mous- tache, dark brown hair, ruddy complexion, and lisps; he is BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. About 3 a. m. on the 6th instant, a cottage near the church at Stoke- by- Nayland, was broken into by two men, and a pair- case silver Watch, No. C 41205, London, with steel Chain and two brass Keys attached, and 8s. or 9s., stolen ; the property of. James Coleman. Information to be fiven to Superintendent Chapman, Suffolk Constabulary, ioxford.— Bow- street, March 8. Stolen, by means of housebreaking, between 10 p. m. on , , „„„ , „„ the 6th and 7 a. m. on the 7th instant, from No. 1, Thomas- of nervous temperament and addicted to drinking; dressed street, Eodborae Cheney, the property of Mr, Robert Carpenter when ' lust seen in dark cloth overcoat, high silk hat, and sallow complexion, small dark whiskers and moustache, and smart appearance, a native of King's- Lvnn, Norfolkshire ; dressed in a light drab overcoat, black felt hat, and check tweed suit; he is very fond of the company of music- hall singers ; when last seen he wore a valuable diamond ring, which he is likely to dispose of. Absconded on the 24th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: JAMES BARRY, about 38 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, rather curly, beard and moustache, bald from forehead to back of head, and the hair frorh side of head combed over bald part, stout build, nails of thumbs much bitten, and the fleshy part projecting over the nails ; well dressed, a clerk. £ 10 reward on apprehension. Description of CAROLINE MAY, charged with stealing £ 3 10s. at Tillington, on the 30th January : she is 18 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin face, fresh complexion, and light brown hair ; dressed in a brown dress, with light stripe, black cloth jacket, black bonnet, with blue trimming and strings, and elastic- side boots; she took a ticket at Petworth Railway Station for Victoria Station, and is supposed to be in London. Information to be given to Superintendent Kemmish, West Sussex Constabulary, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Bovi- street, March 3. Further information respecting GEORGE ALBERT SKELLEY, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th Jauuary last, charged with larceny at Market Drayton : he is a cooper, 25 to 30 years of age, brown hair, little over 5 feet high ; he is supposed to be living with a young woman who left Drayton to join him on the 22nd ultimo : she is 18 years of age, slender, dark brown hair, dark complexion ; he is supposed to be working for some cooper. Description of ALFRED GREGORY, a tramping tailor, charged on a warrant with stealing au unfinished Ooat, from a shop at Elland cum Greetland, near Halifax, Yorkshire : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark brown hair, and wears a moustache, a tailor by trade, native o£ London, last resided at Elland cum Greetland ; dressed iu black frock coat, dark cloth trousers, and low felt hat. 103. reward will be given on his apprehension. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Ormsby, West Riding Constabulary, Halifax.— Bow- street, March 3. Description of CHAS. MOORE FELLS, of Hitchin, Assistant Overseer, charged with embezzling divers sums of Monies, the property of the Overseers of Hitchin : 30 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, thin face, sickly appear- ance, face a little freckled, long nose, light brown hair, arid small whiskers. He absconded from Hitchin on the night of the 24th ultimo, by the G. N, Railway to London, and stopped at the G. N. R. Hotel, King's Cross, accompanied by a woman ; they left the hotel in a cab about 11' 30 a, m.. 25th ultimo. He gave the name of SUMMERS jit the hotel. .-£ 50 rewaid will be paid for information as will lead to his apprehension. Information to be given to Inspector Young, Hitchin, Herts, who holds a warrant for his arrest, or to Sergeant Lansdown, Detective Department, Scotland- yard. — Bow- street, March 3. Description of GEORGE STANLEY, charged with stealing the sum of £ 10, belonging to Charles Parsons, of Birmingham, his master : he is 21 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, sandy hair, oval face, and round shoulders ; dressed when he absconded in dark clothes and black billycock hat. It is said that he may give the name of CONFORD, instead of Stanley, the latter supposed to be fictitious. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 1. Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from the dwelling- house of Mrs. Whetton, of Pelsall, Staffordshire, tho property of George Rutter, a lodger : £ 2 10s. in Gold and Silver, a woollen Shirt, and a plaid woollen Scarf. By a man, who had been lodging at the house, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, round face, and slight sandy whiskers ; dressed in a blue pilot jacket, white. slop underneath, cord trousers, and old soft black billycock hat; supposed to be a native of Leamington, has a rough voice, and fond of siuging in public- houses. Description of two men charged with indecently assaulting a servant girl, about 17 years of age, on tho high- way at Packington, near Lichfield, on the 21st instant : both about 35 years of age, of medium height, dark brown hair, one had a small dark moustache, the other small dark whiskers round his face, both of slender build, and sallow complexion; dressed in drab slops, cord trousers, vary old shoes, out in the fronts, and black billycock hats. They had the appearance of tramping navvies. Information to be given to Sergeant Hammond, Police__ Office, Shenstone, near Lichfield.— Bow- street, Febmary 26. FEAUBS AMD AGGEAYAfSD MISBSMSAIfOUMS. Absconded from. Eton, Bucks, charged with obtaining Food and Money by false pretences on the 16th instant : HENRY WILLIAMS, a boilermaker, who tramps the country, about 42 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, very much pockmarked, blind of left eye, brown whiskers, shaved on chin, moustache clipped short, and of dirty appear ance ; dressed in dark clothes and felt hat. He has an impediment in his speech when excited, aud when in drink states that he is a member of the Beresford family and Lord Waterford's family, also states he is a member of the Carlton Club, and that he belongs to the Amalgamated Society of Boilermakers ; he lodges at public- houses uear iron foundries and smith's yards. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Dunbam, Police Court, Slough, Bucks, or to Inspector Pearman, Eton, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, February 26. Absconded, charged with conspiracy: J. BAXTER, 27, George street, Chelsea, 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, slight whiskers ( sometimes shaved off.) £ 5 reward. Warrant issued. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Depart- ment, Great Scotland Yard, London.— Bmo- street, Feb. 26. Absconded from Alfriston, Sussex, on the 19th ultimo, charged with stealing two bushels of Potatoes: JOHN GEAL, a labourer, 28 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion, blue eyes, light, brown hair, and stout figure ; dressed in dark trousers, dark slop, dark cap, with ear flaps, red scarf, and old boots. And JOHN KEMP, a labourer, 28 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches higb, light complexion, light brown hair, and stout figure ; dressed in dark cap, dirty light slop, dirty old cord trousers, and very old boots. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Waghorn, Hailsham, Sussex, who holds a warrant for their apprehensisn.— Bow- Street, March 1. Stolen on the 21th ult,, from Herbert- street, Hackney : 56^ pairs of boot Uppers, twelve ladies', marked ' Swiss, No. 576' inside ; twelve ditto plain, six ditto plain, scolloped toecaps, marked ' 553' inside, four and a half strap, toecaps, twelve plain, French toecaps, and ten girls' kid, buttoned, patent goloshed. By a man with dark complexion aud hair, no beard or whiskers, and dressed in'plaid overcoat, trousers, and vest, and black felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, N Divi- sion, March 1. Stolon from the dwelling- house of Hannah Wells, at New Holland, on the 22nd instant: a pair of black velvet Bracelets, gold clasps, set round with pearls ; a pair of Bracelets, either gold or plated beads, large clasps, with grey stones in centre ; a pair of Bracelets, jet round, and long beads strung on elastic ; a pair of silver sleeve Links; a gold finger Bing; and a gold scarf Ring. By JOSEPH WILLIAMS, a man who lodged in the house, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stoutly built, swarthy complexion, blown hair and whiskers, has a scar on forehead from right eyebrow to top of nose ; dressed in a cloth reefer jacket, cloth vest and trousers, black aud white scarf, blue serge shirt, soft billy hat, and laced boots ; was traced to Hull, where he pawned the sleeve links and scarf ring ; he is supposed to be well known at Retford, York, Boston, and London; stated he worked for a firm of patent signal erectors. Warrant issued. Information to be given to Superintendent Fuller, Barton- on- Humber, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, February 26. Description of HENRY THOMPSON, charged in the borough o£ Leeds, as a fraudulent bailee : he is from 40 to 50 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, thin build, no beard or moustache, ruddy complexion, smooth hair, turning gi- ey, wears spectacles, walks slightly lame of one foot; is a reader in a reporter's office. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow street, February 2.6. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Found on the 12th ultimo, in the ladies' water closet at the Midland Railway Station, Gloucester: a male Child, alive, about 5 weeks old, dressed in a calico roller round the body, 1J yard long, sewn and joined in centre, a fiue linen shirt, with chain crochet round sleeves, a cotton back roller, a back flannel made out of an old petticoat, lined partly up the back with calics, two large napkins, made of rough- sheeting, calico bedgown, marked with red cotton in pecuHar shaped letters or figures, the bedgown has edging round the neck and wrists, and in front is a piece of crochet, a lawn- cap, with two borders, and a skull cap underneath. The child was wrapped up in a large plaid apron, black ground and blue stripes, about § inch in pattern, black binding round the top and wide black strings.
