Notice.— It ia requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the pereon requiring or sending the same, and all applicationa in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded en War Office Eorms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MURDEB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 1* 40 p. m. on the 14th instant, the dead Body of a newly- born male child was found iu a new building in Bolton, wrapped in a piece of brown paper and about a yard of grey calico, with narrow red striped border. On the 16th instant, an inquest was held, and a verdict was returned ot ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown, evidence having been given that the deceased had been strangled with a cord. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Borough Police Offices, Town Hall, Bolton- le- Moors, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 20. On the morning of the 15th instant, the dead body of a male child, about 14 days old, was found in the Manchester, Sheffield, and Lincolnshire Canal, in the township of Sutton, supposed to have been in the water 7 or 8 days. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to he given to Superintendent Dale, County Police Station, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 20, « £ 50 reward will he paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person giviDg such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of EMILY RICHARDS, alias ELLEN RAPSON, who is charged with the wilful murder of her infant male child, by throwing him down a well or shaft at Cusvath Coorn, near Chaciewater, in the county of Cornwall, on the 10th ultimo. An inquest was held on the body of the said child on the lst instant, and a verdict of ' Wilful murder' returned against the said Emily Richards, who is a married woman, 29 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, rather stout, full black eyes, very dark hair, false upper and lower front teeth, and rather pleasing appearance ; dressed in black straw hat, black fall, dark seal- skin jacket, black silk dress, and red woollen scarf round her neck and shoulders; some of her clothing is marked with the letters ' E. R.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Gilbert, Bodmin, or to Superintendent Marshall, Truro, Cornwall. - Bow- street, January 20. 5 gold- cased Lockets. 2 ditto Watch Seals. And from 10s. to 15s. in Copper Money. The property of Mr. Thomas Henry Lund, pawnbroker, 58, King- street. £ 5 reward will be given for information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders on application to Chief Constable Potts, Town Ilall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 25. Between 6 a. m. and 1 p. m. on the 19th instant the cot- tage of Henry Doleman, of Groby, near Leicester, was broken into and stolen therein : about £ 23 in Gold and 20s. in Silver monies; a small silver Geneva Watch, silver dial, chased back, steel hands, cable pattern, with gold Guard attached ; and a Meerschaum Pipe, silver mounted, curved stem, in a carved oak Case. Information to be given to Superintendent Moore, Belgrave, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, January 22. About 6 p. m. on the 17th instaut, a dwelling- house in Middlesborough was entered by means of skeleton keys, and stolen therein ; 1 set of round geld Ear- rings and Brooch, set with garnets. 1 gold Ring, set with three corals and six diamonds. 2 gold Eings, set with emeralds " nd rubies. 1 set of plain gold Ear- rings and Brooch. 1 set of Australian gold Ear- rings and Brooch, set with white stones. 1 silver Brooch. 1 gold Locket, with the portrait of an elderly man and woman iu it. 1 lady's long gold Guard. 1 gold Neckcfiaiii, with small Locket attached. 1 pair of gold Sleeve Links, vine leaf pattern. 1 blue enamelled gold Locket. £ o or £ Q in Gold, and £ 3 or £ 4 in Silver. The offender or offenders left behind them a skeleton key, a steel jemmy, two ordinary door keys, some wax matches, aud a pair of thin- soled low shoes, with five brass lace- holes on each side, and worn out at toes. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Police Office, Miadlesborough, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, January 20. During the night of the 12th instant, the shop of John Mills, general dealer, Holborn Hill, Millom, was broken into, and stolen therein : a silver lever Watch, No. 16063 ; a gold be given to Superintendent Howe, Buckingham.— Bow- street, January 22. Stolen on the 13th instant, from Buxton- road, Mile- end : a bright bay Mare, 15 hands high, both hind and near fore feet white, star on forehead, in good condition ; and a set of silver- plated Harness. By a man, 38 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, and large whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, January 20. Description of THOMAS WHITTINGHAM, charged with stealing a Pony ( since recovered): about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, ana small sandy whiskers ; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, brown trousers and vest, light coloured muffler, and black hard hat; he is a native of Priest- Weston, near Cleobury. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Williams, Worthen, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, January 18. LARCENY AM EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a hen- house in the'borough of Preston, on the 14th instant : eight Hens, of different colours. By JOHN HARDIKER, 24 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, dark hair cut short, stiffly built, broad round face ; dressed iu a black cloth coat, dark mixture trousers, striped cloth vest, cloth cap, clogs, aud black and white plaid scarf. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the borough of Preston, on the 20th instaut : a pair of military Wellington Boots, newly soled, marked at top ' 17 29 D. Descripton of HENRY RABSON, or RANSOM, lever Watch, No. 1785 ; a gold lever Watch, No. 21699"; a charged, ou warrant, with embezzling Money belonging to silver hunting Watch, No. 26261 ; a silver Geneva Watch, i Mr. George Gillam, fishmonger, of Brighton : about 30 years No. 33541 ; a silver Watch, No. 1096; a silver lever Watch ; i of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark a silver Geneva Watch ; a gold Guard ; a silver Guard ; a brown curly hair, dark brown whiskers and moustache, rather FORGERY. Absconded from Melksham, Wilts, on the 31st, ultimo, charged with forging and uttering a Cheque for £ 2i 8s., on the Wilts and Dorset Bank, at Trowbridge : a man, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, of good address, frequents first class hotels, and is very talkative ; supposed dressed in black frock coat, light trousers, and liigh- crowned black hat. Whoever will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 50 reward. Information to be given to Inspector Luffman, Melksham, Wilts.— Bow- street, January 22. silver albert Chain ; two gold- plated albert Guards ; twelve gold wedding Rings ; seven gold keeper Rings ; eight plated Lockets; four electro- plated table Spoons; a glazier's down- looking, proportionately made, has had a bad leg and walks rather badly, and is left handed ; generally wears a fur cap or round felt hat. He is supposed to have gone to Diamond; four sets of Knives and Forks, maker ' Butler | London, whore he will no doubt try for employment at- a fish- and Co., Sheffield'; about 30s. worth of Copper, and 3s. 6d. monger's ; ' in silver Money; and several, small Weights for weighing gold and silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Bertram, Whitehaven, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bm- street, January 18. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the borough of Ashton- under- Lyne, between 6 and 7 a. m. on the 18th instant : a silver lever Watch, with small seconds haud, No. 30209, had attached a heavy silver Albert Chain, suake pattern, with a locket and photograph of a young man in one side ; a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 114 ; a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, two pockets outside, and one ditto inside left breast, 5jlue plaid lining, pait worn; a blue ribbed cloth Jacket, part worn ; a black cloth Yest, with a green spot therein ; a pair of men's cord Trousers, new ; a lady's dark blue stuff Skirt and Tunic, trimmed with black lace and velvet, and buttons down the front; a black and white plaid woollen Shawl; a calico Chemise, a long calico Nightdress; aud a pair of Drawers. Suspicion is attached to a man who was seen near the house about 0 a. m. : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, and may be wearing some of the stolen clothes, as a pair of old trousers and an old jacket were left ou the premises. Stolen on the 16th instant-, from the person of gentleman at the London and North Western Railway Station, Dudley: a gold double- bottom lever Watch, enamelled dial, gold hands, engine- turned back, maker Davis, Birmingham, No. 2081. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, January 18. BURGLARY AMD HOUSE BREAKING. Between 8 and 10 p. m., on the 20tli iustant, a pawnshop in Blackburn was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : 6 or 7 plated hair 4- bugIe pendant Albert Chains, 8 plated, round and octagon, Albert Chains. CAfcTLE STEALI JH O. Stolen on the evening of the 2Ist instant, from the premises of Mr. Aaron Hibberd, at Handlev, Dorset: a brown Hackney Horse, 3 years old, 15 hands high, short tail, which has been clocked, white - stripe down the face, the off fore fetlock aud the two hind ones white, ring worms about the neck, and was unshod ; and a doubie- reined Bridle, with curb bit. A man about 30 years of age. 5 feet 7 inches high, and dark complexion; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, and black billycock hat, was seen with the horse a short distance from Handley, about 9 o'clock the same evening. Informa- tion to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, Dorset Con- siabulary, Wimborne.— Bovi- street, January 25. Stolen on the 18th instant, from Denmark- hill, Camber- well, a bay Horse, 6 years old, 16 hands high, half shoes behind, shaggy mane.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, January 22, Stolen from a field at Bourton, Buckingham, on the 13tli instant, a dark brown Cob, aged, about 14jt hands high, in good condition, star on forehead, the legs have been trimmed, and tail cut short, scar on one hind leg, tlie below hock supposed now to be covered with hair. Information to he worked at Richmond, Surrey, sometime ago. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, — Bovi- sti eet, January 25. Description of a man who gave the name of HARRY GOFF, charged ou a warrant with stealing .£ 11 8s. from his lodgings, 21, Trinity- place, Reading : 36 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, aud moustache, upper front teeth defieieut; dressed in blue serge jacket with brass buttons, dark trousers and vest, brown cloth cap with lappets aud peak ; he has occasionally worked aa a fitter, engine driver, or stoker. His right name is believed to be JOHN MILLS, against • whom a warrant was issued ( see Police Gazette of 13th April, 1866.) Information to be given to Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, Berks.— Bow- street, Jan. 25. Charged on a warrant, - with embezzlement in the City of London : SIDNEY COOKE, 45 years of age, medium height, stoutly built, thick black moustache, respectable appearance, is a clerk, and was for merly captain of a ship plying between Liverpool and New York. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Depart- ment, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, January 25. Description of JAMES MARTIN, a bricklayer's labourer, charged on a warrant with stealing at Stapenhill on the 16th instant a hen Fowl, the property of Mr. Henry Wardle: 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark brown hair, grey eyes, light complexion ; dressed in cord trousers, white slop, topcoat, bUck cloth cap, without peak, clegs with three rows of nails in the soles, his clothing is dirty from carrying bricks and mortar, and he will probably apply for work at builders or at brickyards. Information to be given to Superintendent Sharpe, Police Station, Woodville, Burton- on- Treut, Staffordshire. — Bovi- street, January 25. The tramping tinker and umbrella repairer advertised in the Police Gazette of the 18th instaui, charged with stealing a copper Kettle, the property of Miss Mary Roberts, Llanfair, Montgomeryshire, has been apprehended, and bound over to appear at Llanfair Petty Sessions on the 30th instant. — How- street, January 25. Further information respecting GEORGE ALBERT SKELLEY, charged with stealing a double- breasted pilot cloih Jacket and Vest and a pair of Boots froru Market Drayton ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th iustant) : he is about 28 years of age, but little over 5 feet high, has a long body, very short legs, and dark brown hair ; he has stated that his proper name is ALFRED GEORGE SHELLEY, that he is a native of Gloucestershire, and served his apprenticeship in London, that his father was in 9, POLICE GAZETTE. January engineer, and was killed by accident on a railway some years j ago, and that he has a sister living, and a relative, a cork- cutter, in Bristol. Information to be given to Superintended Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergt. Howells, Market Drayton, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 25. Absconded on the 21st instant, from Forest- road, Balston, embezzling £ 35 : a man, 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, ruddy complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, light brown beard, - whiskers, and moustache, inclined to be sandy, ring on fourth finger right hand, imitation of a dog's collar ; dressed in blue serge monkey jaeket, black cloth overcoat, trousers, and vest, black necktie, and high black hat, with mourning band.— Metropolitan Police, N Division, January 25. Stolen on the 20th instant, from Sutterton- street, Islington : a gold Watch ; a silver ditto ; a gold Neckchain ; four gold Lockets ; five gold ' Kings; a gold diamond Pin ; a pair of jet Ear- rings ; an eight- day mahogany Timepieee ; a Flute ; three Bank Books ; £ 7 10s. in cash ; a child's Money- box ; a Counterpane ; two Sheets ; six coarse Towels ; a fancy Workbox ; a silk Umbrella ; and a few Coins. By a man 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light hair and whiskers ; dressed in blue monkey jacket, plaid vest and trousers, and billycock hat; and a woman, 36 years of age, 5 feet high, fresh complexion, black hair ; dressed in black, blue rough jacket, and black bonnet.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, January 25. Absconded, charged with stealing a Watch and a con- siderable quantity of Jewellery ( consisting of Lockets, finger Rings, shirt Studs, Brooches, scarf Pins, Albert and Guard Chains, & c., of imitation gold and gold- plated), on the night of the 14th instant, from a shop in Dumblane : BERNARD M'GUIRE, alias JAS. MARTIN, alias DAVID MARTIN or WILKIE, & e., a travelling watchmaker or jeweller, who is about 33 years of age, 5 feet inches high, stout make, dark brown hair, thin dark whiskers and moustache, small ( lark imperial, round face, pale complexion, rather good- looking, hazel eyes, Roman nose, slightly bald on forehead, small mark of cut or burn ou top of head, slightly bow- legged, and stoops a little ; supposed to be a native of Ire- land, but speaks witha Scotch accent, and has a good address; dressed m a grey snooting coat and vest ( doubb- breasted), dark grey striped tweed trousers, blue pilot overcoat with dark velvet cellar and bound with black braid, magenta scarf, large soft blaek billycock hat, and elastic- side boots well • worn. He is known to the police in several counties of Scotland, and has been convicted of theft in Cupar, Fife, Inverness, Alloa, and Dumb. lane ; was liberated from the General Prison, Perth, on the 14th ultimo, after undergoing a sentence of twelve months for a similar theft. The watch and part of the stolen property has been recovered. Infor- mation to be given to the Chief Constable, Perth, or to Super- intendent Steuart, Dumblane, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 25. Stolen on the 18th instant, from the dwelling house of Description of a man who calls himself JAMES BOYD, remanded Wick on a charge of theft: 34 years of age, 5 feet llj-. inciies high, very dark brown hair, whiskers shaved off, wears thick black moustache, round full face, and dark complexion, cut on lower lip, and a - sword wound on right side, just above the thigh ; he is <& travelling cutler, says he was born at Liverpool, and now resides in Glasgow, was in the Scots Greys, in which regiment he served through the Crimean War, and was - discharged on a pension of Is. 3d. per day; dresses in dark tweed suit, black cloth cap - with peak, and laced boots. Also charged in connection with Boyd, a pedlar named ANDREW MACDONALD, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, bushy red hair and whiskers ; dressed m dark tweed coat, dark cloth trousers and vest, speaks a broad Yorkshire dialect, and is accompanied by hi3 wife and three chldren ; he left Wick on his way South, about 10 days ago. 1 His certificate was endorsed at Wick on the 20th June last. He is to be apprehended and detained. information to be given to the Chief Constable, County Buildings, Wick, Caithness.— Bou- sireet, January 22. Stolen from a lockfast drawer in a bed- room in Mrs. Linton's eating house, Fore- street, Hexham, between 1 and 10 p. m. on the 16th instant: a small wooden Cash Box. containing a £ 5 Bank of England Note ; £ 15 10s. in Gold ; 17s. 6d. in Silver; a lady's gold dress Ring, with ' W. Linton, died 20th May, 1874' engraved on the inside, an anchor, heart, and cross on the outside, and set with hair round the centre on the outside. Supposed by, three men who were in the room where the cash box was afterwards found empty about 5 p. m. : one man was about 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slender make, fresh com- plexion,, rather round face, light hair, slight whiskers down the cheeks, no moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and high hat. Another from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 ins. high, well made, dark complexion, dark hair, dark short whiskers round the face, no moustache; dressed in dark clothes, and high hat. And the other about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light complexion, pale face, light hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and long hat ; carried a mackintosh overcoat. It has been ascertained that the above men left Hexham by the 5' 49 p. m. train on the 16th, for Carlisle, at which place they were in an eating- house about 10' 30 p. m. ; they there stated that they were going to London by the midnight train, but it has been found that no such persons took tickets for London by that train, but that a man answering the descrip- tion of the tallest of the three purchased 3 tickets for Manchester by the train which leaves Carlisle at 12' 47 a. m. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Police Office, Hexham, Northumberland. — Bow - street, January 20. quantity of carpenter's Tools from Messrs. Matterson„ Huxley, and Watson, ironmongers, Coventry, by false pretences, on the 4th instant : he i3 about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, whiskers shaved off, brown hair and moustache, and full dark eyes ; he is a native of Sapcote, Leicestershire, and is well known at other places in that county. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Norris, Coventry, Warwickshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 20. Description of a man charged with obtaining three pairs- of hunting Boots, by false pretences from a shop in North- wicb, on the 11th instant: he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, brown hair and whiskers, turning grey, blind of left eye; he is a groom, and is well known at hunting and livery stables as a helper, he left Northwich on the 12th instant, in company with another tramping groom. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Middlewich, or to Inspector Dutton, Northwich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 20. Absconded from Sculthorpe, Norfolk, on the 29th ult. : WALTER HUGH KING, charged with converting to his own use £ 7 7s., belonging to a friendly society, of - which he was the secretary : he is 32 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, stout in proportion, fresh complexion, light brown hair, slight whiskers, pointing to His chin ; dressed in a blue pilot coat, light- coloured cord or cloth trousers, sealskin cap, and generally a comforter round his neck, he is a miller and stonsj. dresser, aud will probably seek employment at a Hour mill Information to be given to Superintendent Murrell, Walsingham, or to Sergeant Newlaud, Police Station, Fakenham, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, January 18. Absconded on the 11th instant, from Mitford- road, Holloway, embezzling £ 10 : a man, 55 years of age, 5 feet Mrs. Stirrup, of Smethwick : a man's black cloth cSat, velvet j 6 inchef Sigh, fresh complexion, hair and whiskers turning collar, double- breasted; a pair of light cord Trousers, nearly grey; dressed in a black cloth coat, trousers, and vest, blue new ; a gold- plated watch Guard, snake pattern; a gold pencil Case ; a meerschaum Pipe ; and 5s. in Money.
