Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. *„* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for iusertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. FORGERY. Absconded from Melksham, Wilts, on the 31st ultimo, charged with forging and ottering a Cheque for £ 1i 8s., on the Wilts and Dorset Bank, at Trowbridge : a man, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, of good address, frequents first class hotels, and is very talkative ; supposed dressed in black frock coat, light trousers, and high- crowned black hat. Whoever will give sucb information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders shall receive £ 60 reward. Information to be given to Inspector Luffman, Melksham, Wilts.— Bow- street, January 22. INFORMATIONS. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 16th instant, from the person of a gentleman at the London and North Western Railway Station, Dudley: a gold double- bottom lever Watch, enamelled dial, gold hands, engine- turned back, maker Davis, Birmingham, No. 2081. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, January 18. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About l- 40 p. m. on the 14th instant, the dead Body of a - newly- born male child was found in a new building in' Bolton, wrapped iu a piece of brown paper and about a yard of grey calico, with narrow red striped border. On the 16th anstant, an inquest was held, and a verdict was returned ot BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 6 a, m. and 1 p. m. on the 19th instant the cot- tage of Henry Doleman, of Groby, near Leieester, was broken into and stolen therein : about £ TA in Gold and 20s. in Silver monies; a small silver Geneva Watch, silver dial, chased back, steel hands, cable pattern, with gold Guard attached ; and a Meerschaum Pipe, silver mounted, curved stem, in a carved oak Case. Information to be given to Chief About 6 p. m. on the 17th instant, a dwelling- house in Constable Beech, Borough Police Offices, Town Hall, Bolton- Middlesborough was entered by means of skeleton keys, and le- Moors, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 20. On the morning of the 15th instant, the dead body of a male child, about 14 days old, was found in the Manchester, Sheffield, and Lincolnshire Canal, in the township of Sutton, supposed to have been in the water 7 or 8 days. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder ' was returned . against some peison or persons unknown. Information tote given to Superintendent Dale, County Police Station, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 20. £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government - to any person giving such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of EMILY RICHARDS, alias ELLEN RAPSON, who is charged with the wilful, murder of her infant male child, by throwing him down a well or shaft at Cusvath Coom, near Chacewater, in the _ _ _ _ county of Cornwall, on the 10th ultimo. The office of Mr. Joseph Sankey, of Market- street, Bilston, was broken into during the night of the 9th instant, and an offioe Time- Piece, with the doors on eaah side broken, andj the name—' Stringer, Bilston,' on the face, was stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent McCrea, Police Station, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 15. Stolen by means of honsebreakiog, between 9 and 10 p. m. en the 8th inst., from a bedroom in the house of the Countess Morella, Wentworths, Virginia Water : 1 gold Bracelet, with iron crosses, and date ' 1670— 71.' 1 gold Bracelet, with black enamel locket, with monogram ' C.' and crown. 1 blue enamel Bracelet, with ' M.* and coronet in diamonds, containing miniature. 1 gold Locket, with double ' M.' engraved, and a photo- graph inside. 1 Locket, with ' GT' in enamel, containing photograph. 1 Locket, with Union Jack, and Ear- rings to match. 1 Locket, with bine enamel coronet and * M. 1 gold Locket with turquoises, 1 Brooch and Ear- rings gold, with ' A. E. I.' in dii..> onds on blue enameL 1 gold hunting Watch, by Chodel, Paris, with short Chain attached. 1 gold Watch, by Klaftenberger, Albert Chain and Seal, with ' M.' and coronet. 1 gold Bracelet, containing miniature, with ' M.' and coronet in diamonds and blue enameL 1 large blue enamel oval Locket, set round with diamonds, and coronet and ' M.' in diamonds. A reward of £ 200 will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to | the amount recovered. Stolen by means of housebreaking between 4 p. m. on the 6th and 12 noon on the 7th instant, at Squenaut fach, Llanfechan: a black cloth Waistcoat, with small white stripes ; a pair of old yellow framed Spectacles ; and a small cupboard Key. Supposed by two men, tramps — one about 53 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, swarthy com- plexion, heavily- pockpitted, dark hair, has lost the left eye, and the right forefinger from the second joint ; the other is about 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, and Roman nose, very re- ceding forehead, and round shoulders. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, or to Police Con- stable Lewis, Llansainttfraid, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, January 13. Constable Gilbert, Bodmin, or to Superintendent Marshall, Truro, Cornwall. - Bow- street, January 20. On the morning of the 7tli instant, the dead body of a newly- born female Child was found iu a garden in Bolton, wrapped in an old black and white striped cotton skirt. At the coroner's inquest a verdict was returned, ' That deceased died through the Wilful Neglect of some person or persons unknown.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 15. About 12 o'clock on the night of the 9th instant, BEN- JAMIN HUCKFEILD, of Sandbach, forgeman, was met on the railway biidge oil Wheelock- road, Sandbach, by four men, who threw him over the parapet upon the railway embankment, causing severe injuries to his back, breaking several of his ribs, and placing his life iu great danger: he describes one of the men as being vtry tall, and having a very long nose, aud dark whiskers under his chin ; dressed in a velveteen jacket ( who will probably be found to have - one of his ears injured, as Huckfield got hold of it as he was being thrown over the bridge). Information to be given to Superintendent Roubottom, Constabulary Station, Middle- wich, or to Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sand- bach, Cheshire.— Bow- street,, January 13. Absconded from Northwich, on the 5th instant, charged with wilful murder : MARK LEDWAED, labourer, native of Over, Cheshire, worked in North Wales, on railways, & c., about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, proportion- ately made, pale or sallow complexion, large broad nose, no whiskers or moustache, dark hair ; dressed iu a dark pilot cloth coat, moleskin trousers, black billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; may have a cut on one of his cheeks and other marks of recent violence, walks with a slouching gait, and is a dull looking man ; belongs to the 1st Cheshire Militia, and may therefore try to enlist. Stolen from a dsvelling- house in the borough of Ashton- under- Lyne, between 6 aud 7 a. m. on the IGUi instant : a silver lever Watch, with small seconds hand, No. 30209, had attached a heavy silver Albert Chain, snake pattern, with a locket and photograph of a young man iu one side ; a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 114 ; a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, two pockets outside, and one ditto inside left breast, blue plaid lining, part worn; a blue ribbed cloth Jacket, part worn ; a black cloth Vest, with a green spot therein ; a pair of men's cord Trousers, new ; a lady's dark blue stuff Skirt and Tunic, trimmed with black lace and velvet, and buttons down the front; a black aud white plaid woollen Shawl; a calico Chemise, a long calico Nightdress ; and a pair of Drawers. Suspicion is attached to a man who was seen near the house about 6 a. m. : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, and may be wearing some of the stolen clcthes, as a pair of old trousers aud au old jacket were left on the premises. Information to be given to Head Constable Dalgliesh, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Boie- st., Jan. 18. Stolen by means of shop- breaking, early on the morning of the 13th instant: a new gold Geneva" hunting Watch, white dial; four new gold Geneva '. ever Watches, gold dials ; a lady's new gold Geneva Watch, gold dial; six gold re- volving Seals, some with bloodstones, others white; and two HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the ISth instant, from Denmark- hill, Camber- well, a bay Horse, C years old, 10 hands high, half shoes behind, shaggy miue.— Metropolitan folic', P I){ vision, January 22. Stolen from a field at Bourton, Buckingham, on the 13th instant, a dark brown Cob, aged, about 14j hands high, io good condition, star on forehead, the legs have been trimmed, and tail cut short, scar on one hind leg, the below hock supposed nnw to be covered with hair. Information to be given to Superintendent Howe, Buckingham.— Bow- street, January 22. Stolen on the 13th instant, from Buxton- road, Mile- end : a bright bay Mare. 15 hands high, both hind aud near fore feet white, star on forehead, in good condition ; and a set of silver- plated Harness. By a man, 38 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, and large whisJcers ; dressed in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, January 20. Description of THOMAS WHITTINGHAM, char- ed ith stealing a Pony ( since recovered) : about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, brewn hair, aud small sandy whiskers ; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, brown trousers and vest, light coloured muffler, aud black hard hat ; he is a native of Priest- Weston, near Cleobury. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Williams, War then, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Botc- itreet, January 18. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen on the 18th instant, from the dwelling house of Mrs. Stirrup, of Smethwick : a man's black cloth Coat, velvet collar, double- breasted ; a pair of light cord Trousers, nearly new ; a gold- plated watch Guard, snake pattern ; a gold pencil Case ; a meerschaum Pipe ; and 5s. in Money. By a lodger who represented himself as au engine- fitter, and who slept in the house on the two previous nights : he is about 24 or 2o ve* rs of age, o feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark curly hair, long features, no whiskers or moustache, crooked or fiat nose, has a mark of an old wound on forehead ; dressed in a black tommy hat, round blue serge jacket, grey trousers, elastic- aide boots, or he may be wearing the stolen c'otfces ; 4 P O L I C E GAZETTE. Stolen during the night of the 18 th insteat, from an out- house at Gawsworth : fourteen black Hens; five pheasant Hens; a black and light- coloured breast Hen ; aud a pheasant Cock. Information to be given to Superintendent Dale, Cheshire Constabulary, County Police Station, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, January 22. Description of BENJAMIN LANGTON, alias BENJAMIN COLES, who is chained with stealing a quantity of clothing and household effects, which he- conveyed from Oxford in two boxes by the Great Western Railway at 2' 55 p. m. ou the 11th instant, and is supposed to have booked through from Oxford to Moorgate- street: he is about 45 years o£ age, 5 feet 4 inches high, pale complexion, has the apearauce of sore eyes, very Blight eyebrows aud lashes, very long face, large nxsuth, hair out short, and dark brown moustache, left leg contracted at the hip, causing him to wear a high heeled boot; dressed iu black coat mad waist- coat, light trousers, hard felt hat, aud carried a fishing rod which fs part of the stolen property ; he is a shoesiaker, and is supposed to be well acquainted with London, and stated that he has! been charged with the larceny of a watch at his lodgings, but wts discharged. Information to be given to Superintendent Head, Oxford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- stxetC, January 22. Absconded from Wolverhampton, on the 15th instant, charged with embezzling and stealing tke following property, belonging to Mr. Zusman Zusman : thirteen gold Chains and Guards, initialed ' J. M.'; eight gold Watches, Nos, 7M72 71170,71520, 30591, 3508, 72034, 44203, and 22704 ; an. eleven silver Watches, Nes. 43595, 11728, 38072, 31819, 34626, 3463C, 34988, 21752, 47348, 46376, and 34967: SOLOMON COHEN, a travelling jeweller and lioensed pedlar, formerly of SU feter's- road, Mile End, London, 25 years of age, looks younger, 5. feet 6 inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, ttorid complexion, and slightmoustach- e, upper lip projects, and slender build ; dressed iu a blue coat, with imitation far on callar, grey plaid trousers and vest, and black silk hat. £ 25 reward will be paid by Mr. Eusman Zusman, to any person- giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the said Solomon Cohen, and recovery of the property stolen, or a reward in proportion to tfae - value recovered. Information to be given to Chief Constable Segcave, Town Hall, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, who hokls a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, JaKwm 22. The two men advertised in the Police Gazette of the 20th instant, charged with stealing a Gun and two Coats at Breachley, Keait, are not to be apprehended.— Bow- street, Janvxtry- 3.2. Absconded : from Melksham. ' Wilts, on the 17th instant, charged with embezzlement: ERNEST AWDBY STILES, a bankers clerk, about 30 years of Age, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slight build, fair hair and complexion, small sandy whiskers, large tower jaw, delicate hande, long augers, and neatly dressed. Whoever will give such'information as shall lead to bis apprehension, Bhn 11 receive reward. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Sterna, Nunsteed Lodge, Devizes, or to Inspector Laffman, Melksham, Wilts, who hokis a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, January 22. Description of a man who calls himself JAMES BOYD, remaaded at Wick onach& rge of theft: 34 years of age, 5 feet llf iuohes high, very dtwrk brawn hair, whiskers shaved off, wears thick black moustache,• round full face, and dark complexion, out on lower lip, ami a sword wound on right side, jusrt. above the thigfo.; ' he is a travelling cutler, says he was ban at Liverpool, and now resides in tilasgow, was in the Scots Greys, in which regiment he served through the Crimean War, and wae discharged ou a pension of Is. 3d. per day ; dresses in dark tweed suit, black cloth eap with peak, and laced boots. Also ckarged in connection with Boyd, a pedlar named ANDREW MACDONALD, about 6H years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, bushy red hair and whiskers ; dressed in dark tweed coat, dark cloth trousers and vest, speaks a broad Yorkshire- dialeet, and is accompanied by his wife and three chldpsn ; he left Wick on bis way South, about 10 days ago. His osrtifieate was endorsed - at Wiek on the 20 th June last. He is to be apprehended and detaiG- ad. Information to be given to the Chief Constable. County Buildings, Wick, Caithness.— Bou- unet, January 22. Stolen from a lockfast drawer in a bed- room in Mrs. Linton's eating- house, fore- street, Hesiam, between 1 and 10 p. Q. on the 16th instant: a small wooden Cash Box. containing a £•> Bank of England Note.; £ 15 16s. in Gold ; 17s. Cd. in Silver; a lady's gold dress Ring, with ' W. Linton, died 20th May, 1874' engraved on tfee inside, an anchor, heart, and cross on the outside, and set with hair round the ceatre on the outside. Supposed by three men who were in the room where the cash box was afterwards found empty about 5 p. m. : one man was about £ 3 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, . slender make, fresh com- plexion, rather round face, light hair, slight whiskers down the cheeks, no . moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, aud high hat. Another from JO to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 ins. high, well made, dark complexion, dark hair, dark short whiskers round the face, no moustaehe; dressed in dark clothes, and high hat. And the other about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light complexion, pale face, light hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and long hat ; carried a mackintosh overcoat. It has been ascertained that the above men left Hexham by the 5' 49 p. m. train on tie 16th, for Carlisle, at which place they were in an eating- uouse about 10- 30 p. m. ; they there stated that they were going to London by the midnight train, but it has been found that no such persons took tickets for London by that train, but that a man answering the descrip- tion of the tallest of the three purchased 3 tickets for Manchester by the train which leaves Carlisle at 12 47 a. m. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Police Office, Hexham, Northumberland. — Bow - street, January 20. Absconded on the 11th instant, from Mitford- road, Holloway, embezzling £ 10 : a man, 55 years of age, 5 . feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, hair and whiskers turning grey; dressed in a black cloth coat, trousers, and vest, blue overcoat, and high hat, with mourning banil~ Jfet) V/> o! itan Police, Y Division, January 20. Description of WILLIAM WATSON, who ifl chafed with stealing, about the 30' uh October last, three saddler's Punches and a pair of leggings: about 33 years of age, 5 feet 6| inches high, bi\) W'j hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, has a scar under the righ'„ jaw, is a native of Lincoln, aud is a saddlei's collar maker ; he is married, and has four children, and when travelling in search of work has a peram- bulator, in whioh he cajries tiis children. Information to be given to Head Constable Horne, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 18, Stolen en the night of the 12th instant from a hut at Lazonby, tire property of a navvy : one nearly new doublet- breasted blue pilot cloth reefing Jacket, two side pockets with flaps, pocket inside left breast, black horn buttons, aud lined with blue and black striped winsey ; one large- size double- breasted blue pilot cloth Waistcoat, flaps to pockets, one pocket inside left breast, black horn buttons, white moleskin back, and lined with white flannel, and nearly new ; aud one pair of new white moleskin trousers, lined with twilled <*> tton. By JAMES BURNS, an Irish navvy, who was a odger in the same hut, and who has absconded ; he is 40 years ef age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather stout figure, dark hair, and brown whiskers ; dressed in the stolen' clothes, brown cloth cap with peak, and clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension, or at the- Co « nty Chief Constable's Ofice, Carlisle,' Cumberland.— Bow- street, January 18. Stolen on the 13th instant, the property of Mrs. Mary Roberts, Llanfair, Montgomeryshire: a copper tea Kettle, eiuce recovered, having been sold by a tramping tinker and umbrella repairer : he is 30 to 35 years of age, 5 leet 5 to 6 inches high, light hair and moustache, pale complexion ; dressed in grey or drab round jacket, old black trousers, and old boots-; he can speak Welsh and English, and had in his possession a pedlar's certificate, in the name of OWEN JONES.
