C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with tho Advertisement, forwarded to tho Editor for insertion. As no cliargo is made for the insertion of any article in tho POLICE GAZETTE, all Ijetters addressed to the Editor must lie prepaid, otherwise tie insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of ' Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, Bliould be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MUEDEB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. About 1' 40 p. m. on the 14th instant, the dead Body of a newly- born male child was found in a new building it Bolton, wrapped in a piece of brown paper and about a yard of grey calico, with narrow red striped border. On the 16th instant, an inquest was held, and a verdict was returned ot ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown, evidence having been given that the deceased had been strangled with a cord. Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Borough Police Offices, Town Ilall, Bolton- le- Moors, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 20. ROBBEEY AND IAECEIY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 16th instant, ' from the person of a gentleman at the London and North Western Railway Station, Dudley: a gold double- bottom lever Watch, enamelled dial, gold hands, engine- turned back, maker Davis, Birmingham, No. 2081. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Burton, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, January 18. On the morning of the 15th instant, the dead body o£ a male child, about 14 days old, was found in the Manchester. Sheffield, and Lincolnshire Canal, in the township of Sutton, supposed to have been in the water 7 or 8 days. At the coroner's inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to he given to Superintendent Dale, County Police Station. Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 20. .£ 50 reward will he paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person giving such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of EMILY RICHARDS, alias ELLEN RAPSON, who is charged with the wilful murder of her infant male child, by throwing him down a well or shaft at Cusvath Coom, near Chacewater, in the county of Cornwall, on the 10th ultimo. An inquest was held on the body of the said child on the lst instant, and a verdict of ' Wilful murder' returned against the said Emily Richards, who is a married woman, 29 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, rather stout, full black eyes, very dark hair, false upper and lower front teeth, and rather pleasing appearance ; dressed in black straw hat, black fall, dark seal- skin jacket, black silk dress, aud red woollen scarf round her neck and shoulders; some of her clothing is marked with the letters ' E. R.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Gilbert, Bodmin, or to Superintendent Marshall, Truro, Cornwall. - Bow- street, January 20. On the morning of the 7th instant, the dead body of newly- born female Child was fouud in a garden in Bolcon, wrapped in an old black and white striped cotton skirt. At the coronor's inquest a verdict was returned, ' That deceased died through the Wilful Neglect of some person or persons uuknown.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 15, About 12 o'clock on the night of the 9th instant, BEN- JAMIN HUCKFEILD, of Sandbach, forgeman, was met on the railway bridge on Wlieeloclc- road, Sandbacb, by four men, who threw him over the parapet upon the railway embankment, causing severe injuries to his back, breaking several of his ribs, and placing his life in great danger : he describes one of the men as being very tall, and having a very long nose, and dark whiskers under his chin; dressed in a velveteen jacket ( who will probably be fouud to have one of his ears injured, as Hucktield got hold of it as he was beiug thrown over the bridge). Information to be given to Superintendent Roubottom, Constabulary Station, Middle, vvicb, or to Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sand- bach, Cheshire. - Bow- street,, January 13. Absconded from Northwich, on the 5th instant, charged with wilful murder : MARK LEDWARD, labourer, native of Over, Cheshire, worked in Norih Wales, on railways, & c. iibout 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, proportion, ately made, pale or sallow complexion, large broad nose, no whiskers or moustache, dark hair; dressed in a dark pilot cloth coat, moleskin trousers, black billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; may have a cut on one of his cheeks and other marks of recent violence, walks with a slouching gait, and is a dull looking man ; belongs to the lst Cheshire Militia, and may therefore try to enlist. Information to be given to Chief Constable Smith, Chester, or to Inspector Dutton, Northwich Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 13, BUEGLAHY AID BREAKING. About G p. m. on tho 17th instant, a dwelling- house in Middlesborough was entered by means of skeleton keys, and stolen therein : 1 set of round geld Ear- rings aud Brooch, set with garnets. 1 gold Ring, set with three corals and six diamonds. 2 gold Rings, set with emeralds ° nd rubies. 1 set of plain gold Ear- rings and Brooch. 1 set of Australian gold Ear- rings and Brooch, set with white stones. 1 silver Brooch. 1 gold Locket, with the portrait of an elderly man and womau iu it. 1 lady's long gold Guard. 1 gold Neckchain, with small Locket attached. 1 pair of gold Sleeve Links, vine leaf pattern. 1 blue enamelled gold Locket. £ 5 or £ 6 in Gold, and £ 3 or ,£ 4 in Silver. The offender or offenders left behind them a skeleton key, a steel jemmy, two ordinary door keys, some wax matches, and a pair of thin- soled low shoes, with five brass lace- holes on each side, and worn out at toes. During the night of the 12th instant, the shop of John Mills, general dealer, Holborn Hill, Millom, was broken into, and stolen therein : a silver lever Watch, No. 16063 ; a gold lever Watch, No. 1785 ; a gold lever Watch, No. 21699 ; a silver hunting Watch, No. 26261 ; a silver Geneva Watch, No. 33541 ; a silver Watch, No. 1096 ; a silver lever Watch ; a silver Geneva Watch ; a gold Guard ; a silver Guard ^ a silver albert Chain ; two gold- plated albert Guards ; twelve gold wedding Rings ; seven gold keeper Rings ; eight plated Lockets; four electro- plated table Spoons; a glazier's Diamond; four sets of Knives and Forks, maker ' Butler and Co., Sheffield'; about 30s. worth- of Copper, and 3s. 6d. silver Money ; and several small Weights for weighing old ancl silver. Stolen from a dwelling- bouse in the borough of Ashton- under- Lyne, between 6 aud 7 a. m. on the 18th instant : a silver lever Watch, with small seconds hand, No. 30209, had attached a heavy silver Albert Chain, snake pattern, with locket aud photograph of a yquug man in one side; a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 114 ; a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, two pockets outside, and one ditto inside left breast, blue plaid lining, part worn; a blue ribbed cloth Jacket, part worn; a black cloth Yest, with a green spot therein; a pair of men's cord Trousers, new ; a lady's dark blue stuff Skirt and Tunic, trimmed with black lace and velvet, and buttons down the ifront; a black and white plaid woollen Shawl; a calico Chemise, a long calico Nightdress; and a pair of Drawers. Suspicion is attached to a man who was seen near the house about 6 a. m. : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, and may be wearing soma of the stolen clothes, as a pair of old trousers and an old jacket were left on the premises. Information to be given to Head Constable iDalgliesh, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow st., Jan. 18, Stolen by means of shop- breaking, early on the morning of the 13th instant: a new gold Geneva hunting Watch, white dial; four new gold Geneva lever Watches, gold dials ; lady's new gold Geneva Watch, gold dial ; six gold re volving Seals, some with bloodstones, others white ; and two 9- carat gold albert Guards, embossed links. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Newcastle- on- Tyne, Dur- ham.— Bow- street, January 15. The office of Mr. Joseph Sankey, of Market- street-, Bilston, was broken into during the night of the 9th instant, and an office Time- Piece, with the. doors on each side broken and] the name—' Stringer, Bilston,' on the face, was stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent McCrea, Police Station, Bilstou, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 15. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 9 and 10 p. m. on the 8th inst., from a bedroom in the house of the Countess Morella, Wentworths, Virginia Water : 1 gold Bracelet, with iron crosses, and date ' 1870— 71 1 gold Bracelet, with black enamel locket, with monogram ' C.' and crown. 1 blue enamel Bracelet, with ' M.' and coronet diamonds, containing miniature. 1 gold Locket, with double ' M.' engraved, and a photo- graph inside. 1 Locket, with 1 GT' in enamel, containing photograph. 1 Locket, with Union Jack, and Ear- rings to match, 1 Locket, with blue enamel coronet and ' M.' 1 gold Locket with turquoises, 1 Brooch and Ear- rings gold, with ' A. E. I.' in diamonds on blue enamel. 1 gold hunting Watch, by Chedel, Paris, with short Chain attached. 1 gold Watch, by Klaftenberger, Albert Chain and Seal, with ' M.' and coronet. 1 gold Bracelet, containing miniature, with ' M.' at d coronet in diamonds and blue enamel. 1 large blue tfhamel oval Locket, set round with diamonds, and coronet and ' M.' in diamonds. And a large quantity of other Jewellery. A reward of .£ 200 will be paid to any person who will give such iuformation as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to bo given to the Chief Constable of Surrey, Guildford, or to Superintendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chextsey— Bow- st-, Jan. 15. Stolen by means of housebreaking between 4 p. m. on the 6th and 12 noon on the 7th instant, at Squenant fach, Llanfechan: a black cloth Waistcoat, with small white stripes ; a pair of old yellow framed Spectacles ; and a small cupboard Key. Supposed by two men, tramps — one about 53 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, swarthy com- plexion, heavily pockpitted, dark hair, has lost the left eye, aud the right forefinger from the second joint; the other is about 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, and Roman nose, very re- ceding forehead, and rouurt shoulders. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, or to Police Con- stable Lewis, Llansaintffraid, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, January 13. Daring the night of the 4th instant the dwelling- house of Joseph Lees, of Cotton, near Cheadle, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a £ 10 Bank of England Note, £ 5 in Gold, and a silver verge Watch, No. 14, and has ' J. Lees' scratched on the inside case. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Phillips, Police Station, Cheadle, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Jan. 11. Between 7 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 8th instant, the cottage of John Butt, of Hanley Castle, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a blue pilot cloth Jacket, double- breasted, velvet collar, two pockets outside and one inside breast, nearly new; a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new ; a pair of cotton cord ditto, ditto ; a double- breasted black cloth Yest, two buttons inside, pink striped lining in iuside of front; a pair of lightly made lace- up Boots, sprigged bottoms ; a blue aud white check bundle Handkerchief; a blue aud white silk Handkerchief ; a soft round black billy- cock Hat; four Sovereigns, three Half- sovereigns, and four Half- crowns. There were left iu the house a jacket, a pair of Trousers, and a pair of Boots, all much worn. Two men of the following description, who slept in the tramp ward at the Upton- on- Severn Union on the previous night, are suspected : one about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair cut short, slight beard and moustache, of slender make, and is believed to have been then wearing the clothes left in Butt's cottage : the other is about 31 years of age, about 5 feet 5- lj inches high, light brown or sandy hair, and believed to have been then wearing a suit of grey clothes. They are probably now wearing the stolen clothes, and may have separated and gone in different directions. Information to be given to Superintendent Checketts, Police Office, Upton- on- Severn.— Bow- street, Jamiary 11. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING, Stolen on the 13th instant, from Buxton- road, Mile- end : a bright bay Mare, 15 hands high, both hind and near fore feet white, star on forehead, in good condition ; and a set of silver- plated Harness. By a man, 38 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, and large whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes.— Metropolitan Police, K Division, January 20. Description of THOMAS WHITTINGHAM, charged with stealing a Pony ( since recovered) : about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inchcs high, fair complexion, brown hair, aud small sandy whiskers ; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, brown trousers and vest, light coloured muffler, and black hard hat; he is a native of Priest- Weston, near Cleobury. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Williams, Worthen, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, January 18. Stolen during the night of the 10th instant, from South Lambeth- road : a brown Mare, 14 hands high, saddle marked, white star on forehead, hair rubbed oft' each shoulder, off hind fetlock swollen, root of nail sore from friction of crupper; a set of black Harness, plated mounts ; two Rugs, one light brown, one black railway ; and a blue and white check horse Roller.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, January 13. Stolen from a field at Penarth, on the night of the 4th instant: a rusty dark mare Pony, 6 years old, about 12 hands high, with a small white stripe on nose, small droopiug ears, and a switch tail. Also a black mare Pony iu Foal, 7 years old, about 13 hands high, black mane, switch tail, and on the near hip are the letters ' D. I.' burnt in, but only visibls ou close examination. ,£ 1 reward is offered for the recovery of either of the Ponies, and conviction of the offender or offenders. LEMEUT. Description of two men charged with stealing a Gun and two Coats, at Brenchley, oa the 13th instant: one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 0 or 7 inches high, sallow complexion, slark hair and moustache, and small whiskers on sides of face ; dressed in old dirty cord trousers, old dark coat, white slop underneath, black billycock hat, heavy lace boots, and carried a basket; the other about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 or <:> inches high, light complexion, no whiskers or moustache, light hair, cut short, and slight build ; dressed in old dirty cord trousers, old brown cap, flaps at sides, dirty white neckerchief, white slop, and probably wearing a brown coat, which has been stolen. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Dance, Police Court, Toubridge, Kent.— Boa- street, January 20. Stolen from a lockfast drawer iu a bed- room in Mrs. Linton's eating- house, Fore- street, Hexham, between 1 and 10 p. m. on the 16th instant : a small wooden Cash Box. contaiuiug a £ 5 Bank of England Note ; £ 15 10s. in Gold ; 17s. 6d. in Silver; a lady's gold dress Ring, with ' W. Linton, died 20th May, 1874' engraved on the inside, an anchor, heart, and cross on the outside, and set with hair round the centre on the outside. Supposed by three men • who were in the room where the cash box was afterwards found empty about 5 p. m. : one man was about 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slender make, fresh com- plexion, rather round face, light hair, slight whiskers down the cheeks, no moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and high ihat. Another from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 3 or 4 ins. high, well made, dark complexion, dark hair, dark short whiskers round the face, no moustache; dressed in dark clothes, and high hat. And the other about 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, light complexion, pale face, light h; « r, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, and long hat; carried a mackintosh overcoat. It has been ascertained that the above men left Hexham by the 5- 49 p. m. train on the 16th, for Carlisle, at which place they were in an eating- house about 10' 30 p. m. ; they there stated that they were going to London by the midnight train, but it has been found that no such persons took tickets for London by that train, but that a man answering the descrip- tion of the tallest of the three purchased 3 tickets for Manchester by the train which leaves Carlisle at 12' 47 a. m. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Police Office, Hexham, Northumberland. — Bow - street, January 20. instant, from Mitford- road, , man, 55 years of age, 5 feet Absconded on the 11th Holloway, embezzling £ 10 : < 6 inches high, fresh complexion, hair aud whiskers turning grey; dressed in a black cloth coat, trousers, and vest, blue overcoat, and high hat, with mourning band.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, January 20. Description of WILLIAM WATSON, who is charged with stealing, about the 30th October last, three saddler's Punches aud a pair of Leggings : about 33 years of age, 5 feet 6| inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, has a scar ur. der the right jaw, is a native of Lincoln, and is a saddler's collar maker ; he is married, and has four children, and when travelling in search of work has a peram- bulator, in which he carries his children. Information to be given to Head Constable Home, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, January 18. >•• Stolen on the night of the 12th iustant from a hut at Lazonby, the property of a navvy : one nearly new doublet- breasted blue pilot cloth reeting Jacket, two side pockets with ilaps, pocket inside left breast, black horn buttons, aud lined with blue aud black striped winsey ; one large size double- breasted blue pilot cloth Waistcoat, Haps to pockets, one pocket inside left breast, black horn buttons, white moleskin back, and lined with white flannel, and nearly uew ; and one pair of new white moleskin trousers, lined with twilled cotton. By JAMES BURNS, an Irish navvy, who was a lodger iu the same hut, and who has absconded ; he is 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather stout figure, dark hair, aud brown whiskers ; dresssd in the stolen clothes, brown cloth cap with poak, and clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension, or at the County Chief Constable's Oflice, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bmo- street, January 18. Stolen on the 13th instant, the property of Mrs. Mary Roberts, Llanfair, Montgomeryshire: a copper tea Kettle, since recovered, having been sold by a tramping tinker and umbrella repairer : he is 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 to 6 inches higb, light hair and moustache, pale complexion ; dressed in grey or drab round jacket, old black trousers, and old boots ; he can speak Welsh and English, and had in his possession a pedlar's certificate, in the name of OWEN JONES. Information to be given tn P. C. Breeze, Llanfair, or to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— — Bow- street, January 18. Description of ROBT. STAFFORD HEPTONSTALL, Agent and Traveller for the Leeds Patent Tube and Fire Brick Company, who is charged upon a warrant with em- bezzlement : from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, smart appearance, dark brown hair, beard, and moustache; dressed in dark clothes and generaliy wears a felt hat. Information to be given to the Chief Con- stable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- street, January 15. Further information recpectiDg HENRY alias HARRY HUNT, who absconded from Broome, Norfolk, charged with larceny, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 28tli ultimo : he is supposed to be wearing his beard and moustache, a lock of hsir inclined to curl each side of his head, prominent nose, sometimes wears a blue guernsey, and had with him a drab cloth overcoat. Information to be given to Inspector Foster, Police Station, Bungay, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bov; street, January 15. Description of two women who absconded from Rydal Villa, Eastbourne, Sussex, on the 19th ultimo, charged with stealing three now calico Chemises, which were sent to the house by Mr. N. Strange, draper, on approbation : One is about 42 years of age, middle height, fair com- plexion, grey eyes, light- brown or golden- coloured hair ( dyed dark), and medium figure. The other is about 20 years of age, rather tall, pale face dark eyes, black hair, and rather slight figure, both dressed ia mourning. They are supposed to be going from town to town, and are likely to be found in fashionable watering places. Informa- tion " to be given to Superintendent Newnham, Eastbourne, Sussex.- - Bow- street, January 15. Stolen from the workshop of Thomas Laugler, of the Crews Arms Inn, Ugborough, Devon : a tenon Saw, a 6- inch Square, a pair of cutting Pliers, a Stock, a- smoothiug Plane, and a carpenter's Tool Basket, lined with canvass and bound with web. By an Irish tramp, about 32, years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, dark hair, red whiskers, and generally clean shaved ; dressed iu a white slop, blue serge frock underneath, cord trousers, grey ditto underneath, and lace- up boots; ho said he was a wire worker, of Ply- mouth, anil was working for Thomas Langler for three days. He absconded early on the morning of the 4th instant, taking the stolen property with him. Information to be given to Superintendent Dore, G Division, Devon Constabulary, Kingsbridge.— Bow- street, January 15. Stolen on the morning fli & he 10th instant, from a dwelling- house in Penrith : an old blue cloth Coat, black covered buttons, two pockets outside, oue large pocket inside skirt, ticket pocket, and torn under each arm ; a pair of new Boots, with elastic sides ; a double- breasted tweed Waistcoat, three pockets outside and oue inside ; a red aud white cotton Pocket- handkerchief ; and a Scotch Cap. By a lodger, who absconded, a clogmaker, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, black hair, no whiskers, full face, large head, and is a native of Bradford; dressed in brown cloth coat, printed moleskin trousers, mended at the knees, and clogs, or he may be wearing the stolen boots and clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle.— Bow- itr< et, January 13. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Bridget Stables, of Dearham, in the county of Cumberland, on the 9th instant : a silver verge Watch, with albert hair Guard attached; a double- breasted grey tweed reefer Jacket, two pockets ancl ticket pocket outside, and pocket inside left breast, nearly new ; a double- breasted green tweed Vest, three buttons down each side, nearly new ; a double- bladed white- handled pocket Knife ; and a Shilling.
