Notice.— It ia requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tile Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person Bhould be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion iu the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS. MUSDBB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of the 7th instant, the dead body of a newly- born female Child was found in a garden in Bolton, wrapped in an old black and white striped cotton skirt. At the coronor's inquest a verdict was returned, ' That deceased died through the Wilful Neglect of some person or persons unknown.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Beech, Bolton, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 15. A warrant has been issued for the apprehension of EMILY RICHARDS, of Carnon Downs, in the parish of Kenwyn, Cornwall, for the wilful murder of a child 1 month old, by throwing it down a shaft. At the inquest a verdict of Wilful Murder was returned. She is the wife of Thomas Richards, who has been abroad some years, and is 29 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, and has false upper and lower front teeth ; dressed in black hat with black fall, and dark sealskin jacket; is sup- posed to he in London, and will probably try to emigrate, representing herself to be a widow. Her Majesty's Govern- ment have offered a reward of £ 50 to any person who shall give evidence leading + o the discovery and conviction of the said Emily Richards. About 12 o'clock on the night of the 9th instant, BEN- JAMIN HUCKFEILD, of Sandbach, forgeman, was met on the railway bridge on Wheelock- road, Sandbach, by four men, who threw him over the parapet upon the railway embankment, causing severe injuries to his back, breaking several of his ribs, and placing his life in great danger : he describes one of the men as being very tall, and having a very long nose, and dark whiskers under his chin; dressed in a velveteen jacket ( who will probably be found to have one of his ears injured, as Huckfield got hold of it as he was being thrown over the bridge). Information to be given to Superintendent Roubottom, Constabulary Station, Middle- wich, or to Inspector Hulme, Constabulary Station, Sand- bach, Cheshire.— Bow- street,, January 13. Absconded from Northwich, on the 5th instant, charged with wilful murder : MARK LEDWARD, labourer, native Gf Over, Cheshire, worked iu North Wales, on railways, & c., about 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, proportion- ately made, pale or sallow complexion, large broad nose, no whiskers or moustache, dark hair ; dressed in a dark pilot cloth coat, moleskin trousers, black billycock hat, aud lace- up boots ; may have a cut on one of his cheeks and other marks of recent violence, walks with a slouching gait, and is a dull looking man ; belongs to the lst Cheshire Militia, and may therefore try to enlist. Information to be given to Chief Constable Smith, Chester, or to Inspector Dutton, Northwich, Cheshire.— Bow- straet, January 13. a silver Geneva Watch ; a gold Guard ; a silver Guard ; a silver albert Chain ; two gold- plated albert Guards ; twelve gold wedding Rings ; seven gold keeper Rings ; eight plated Lockets; four electro- plated table Spoons; a glazier's Diamond; four sets of Knives and Forks, maker ' Butler and Co., Sheffield'; about 30s. worth of Copper, and 3s. 6d. in silver Money; and several small Weights for weighing gold and silver. Information to be given to Superintendent Bertram, Whitehaven, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, January 18. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the borough of Ashton- under- Lyne, between 6 aud 7 a. m. on the 18th instant : a silver lever Watch, with small seconds hand, No. 30209, had attached a heavy silver Albert Chain, snake pattern, with a locket ancl photograph of a young man in one side; a small silver Geneva Watch, No. 114 ; a blue pilot cloth Overcoat, two pockets outside, and one ditto inside left breast, blue plaid lining, part worn; a blue ribbed cloth Jacket, part worn ; a black cloth Vest, with a green spot therein ; a pair of men's cord Trousers, new ; a lady's dark blue stuff Skirt and Tunic, trimmed with black lace and velvet, and buttons down the front; a black and white plaid woollen Shawl; a calico Chemise, a long calico Nightdress ; and a pair of Drawers. Suspicion is attached to a man who was seen near the house about 6 a. m. : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, and may be wearing some of the stolen clothes, as a pair of old trousers and au old jacket were left on the premises. Information to be given to Head Constable Dalgliesh, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashir e.— Bow- st., Jan. 18. Stolen by means of shop- breaking, early on the morning of , the 13th instant : a new gold Geneva hunting Watch, white dial; four new gold Geneva l. ever Watches, gold dials ; a lady's new gold Geneva Watch, gold dial ; six gold re- volving Seals, some with bloodstones, others white ; ancl two 9- carat gold albert Guards, embossed liuks. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Newcastle- on- Tyne, Dur- ham.— Bow- street, January 15. The office of Mr. Joseph Sankey, of Market- street, Bilston, was broken into during the night of the 9th instant, and an office Time- Piece, with the| doors on each side broken, and] the name—' Stringer, Bilston,' on the face, was stolen therefrom. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent McCrea, Police Station, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, January 15. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 9 and 10 p. m. on the 8th inst., from a bedroom iu the house of the Countess Morella, Wentworths, Virginia Water : 1 gold Bracelet, with iron crosses, and date ' 1870— 71.' 1 gold Bracelet, with black enamel locket, with monogram ' C.' and crown. 1 blue enamel Bracelet, with 1M.' and coronet in diamonds, containing miniature. 1 gold Locket, with double ' M.' engraved, and a photo- graph inside. 1 Locket, with 1GT' in enamel, containing photograph. 1 Locket, with Union Jacket, and Ear- rings to match. 1 Locket, with blue enamel coronet and ' M.' new ; a pair of cotton cord ditto, ditto ; a double- breasted black cloth Vest, two buttons inside, pink striped lining in inside of front; a pair of lightly made lace- up Boots, sprigged bottoms ; a blue and white check bundle Handkerchief; a blue and white silk Handkerchief; a soft round black billy- cock Hat; four Sovereigns, three Half- sovereigns, and four Half- crowns. There were left in the house a jacket, a pair of Trousers, and a pair of Boots, all much worn. Two men of the following description, who slept in the tramp ward at tho Upton- on- Severn Union on the previous night, are suspected : one about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair cut short, slight beard and moustache, of slender make, and is believed to have been then wearing the clothes left in Butt's cottage: the other is about 31 years of age, about 5 feet 5| inches high, light brown or sandy hair, and ia believed to have been then wearing a suit of grey clothes. They are probably now wearing the stolen clothes, and may have separated and gone in different directions. HORSE AMD CATTLE STKALIM'O, Description of THOMAS WHITTINGHAM, charged with stealing a Pony ( since recovered): about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, and small sandy whiskers ; dressed in a dark monkey jacket, brown trousers aud vest, light coloured muffler, and black hard hat ; he is a uative of Pr iest- Weston, near Cleobury. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, County Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Williams, Worthen, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension,— Bow- street, January 18. Stolen during the night of the 10th instant, from South Lambeth- road : a brown Mare, 14 hands higb, saddle marked, white star on forehead, hair rubbed off each shoulder, off hind fetlock swollen, root of nail sore from friction of crupper; a set of black Harness, plated mounts ; two Rugs, one light brown, Oue black railway ; and a blue and wlfite ehff-. k horse Roller.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, January 13. Stolen from a field at Penarth, on the night of the 4th instant: a rusty dark mare Pony, 6 years old, about 12 hands high, with a small white stripe on nose, small drooping ears, aud a switch tail. Also a black mare Pony iu Foal, 7 years old, about 13 hands high, black mane, switch tail, and on the near hip are the letters ' D. I.' burnt in, but only visible on close examination. £ 1 reward is offered for the recovery of either of the Ponies, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Sadler, Bridgend, or to Inspector Adams, Penarth, Glamorganshire. - Bow- street, January 13, Stolen between the 3id and 6th ultimo, from a field at Ousby, near Penrith, Cumberland : a 3- year- old black- faced fat wether Sheep, marked with the letter ' O' on the near hock, the letters ' IN' and the figure ' 1' burnt in the horns, and the letter ' O ' burnt in the face. During the night of the 12th instant, the shop of John Mills, general dealer, Holborn Hill, Millom, was broken into, and stolen therein : a silver lever Watch, No. 16063 ; a gold lever Watch, No. 1785 ; a gold lever Watch, No. 21699 ; a silver hunting Watch, No. 26261 ; a silver Geneva Watch, No. 33541; a silver Watch, No. 1096; a silver lever Watch ; about 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, and Roman nose, very re- ceding forehead, and round shoulders. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellis, Welshpool, or to Police Con- stable Lewis, Llansaintffraid, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, January 13. During the night of the 4th instant the dwelling- hou3e of Joseph Lees, of Cotton, near Cheadle, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a £ 10 Bank of England Note, £ 5 in Gold, and a silver verge Watch, No. 14, and has ' J. Lees' scratched on the inside case. Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Leek, or to Sergeant Phillips, Police Station, Cheadle, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Jan. 11. Between 7 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 8th instant, the cottage of John Butt, of Hanley Castle, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a hlue pilot cloth Jacket, double- breasted, velvet collar, two pockets outside afed one inside breast, nearly new; a pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of WILLIAM WATSON, who is charged with stealing, about the 30th October last, three saddler's Punches and a pair of I eggings : about 33 years of age, 5 feet 64- inches high, brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, has a scar under the right jaw, is a native of Lincoln, and is a saddler's collar maker ; he is married, and has four children, ancl when travelling in search of work has a peram- bulator, in which he carries his children. Information to be given to Head Constable Home, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Jauuary 18. Stolen on the night of the 12th instant from a hut at Lazonby, the property of a navvy : one nearly new doublet- breasted blue pilot cloth reefing Jacket, two side pockets with flaps, pocket iuside left breast, black horn buttons, aud lined with blue aud black striped winsey ; oue large size double- one pocket inside left breast, black horn buttons, white moleskin back, and lined with white flannel, and nearly new ; and one pair of new white moleskin trousers, lined with twilled cotton. By JAMES BURNS, an Irish navvy, who was a lodger in the same hut, and who has absconded ; he is 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, rather stout figure, dark hair, and brown whiskers ; dressed in the stolen clothes, brown cloth cap with peak, and clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, January 18. Stolen on the 13th instant, the property of Mrs. Mary Roberts, Llanfair, Montgomeryshire: a copper tea Kettle, since recovered, having been sold by a tramping tinker and umbrella repairer : he is 30 to 35 years of age, 5 teet 5 to 6 inches high, light hair and moustache, pale complexion ; dressed in grey or drab round jacket, old black trousers, and old boots ; be can speak Welsh and English, and had in his POLICE OA rZ E T T E, January 18 possession a pedlar's certificate, in the name © J OWEN JONES. STAFFORD HEPTONSTALL, Agent and Traveller for the Lseds Patent Tube and Fire Brick Company, - who is charged upon a warrant with em- bezzlement : from 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, smart appearance, dark brown hair, beard, and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes and generaliy wears a felt hat. Information to be given to the Chief Con- stable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bow- street, January 15. Further information recpecting HENRY alias HARRY" HUNT, who absconded from Broome, Norfolk, charged with larceny, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 28th ultimo : he is supposed to be wearing his beard and moustache, a lock of hair inclined to curl each side of his head, prominent nose, sometimes wears a blue guernsey, aud had with him a dr* b cloth overcoat. Information to be given to Inspector Foster, Police Station, Bungay, Suffolk, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, January 15. Description of two women who absconded from Rydal Villa, Eastbourne, Sussex, on the 19th ultimo, charged with stealing three new calico Chemises, which were sent to the house by Mr. N. Strange, draper, on approbation : One is about 42 years of age, middle height, fair com- plexion, grey eyes, light- brown or golden- coloured hair ( dyed dark), and medium figure. The other is about 20 years of age, rather tall, pale face dark eyes, black hair, and rather slight figure, both dressed in mourning. They are supposed to be going from town to town, and are likely to be found in fashionable watering places. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Newnham, Eastbourne, Sussex.— Bow- street, January 15. Stolen from the workshop of Thomas Langler, or the Crews Arms Inn, Ugborough, Devou : a tenon Saw, a G- inch Square, a pair of cutting Pliers, a Stock, a smoothing Plane, and a carpenter's Tool Basket, lined with canvass and bound with web. By an Irish tramp, about 32, years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches higb, fair complexion, dark hair, red whiskers, and generally clean shaved ; dressed in a white slop, blue serge frock underneath, cord trousers, grey ditto underneath, and lace- up hoots; he said he was a wire worker, of Ply- mouth, and was working for Thomas Langler for three days. He absconded early on the morning of the 4th instant, taking No. r803I, private isark ' 47 a lady's gold Chain, flat link ' name it has been ascertain he Was passing under ; he is also pattern, fastened with yellow silk near swivel; a grey alpaca chargsd with having committed similar offences in Stafford- Skirt ; a cashmere Cloak, trimmed with black lace ; a black 1 cloth double Cape, with sleeves : and a black silk Skirt. By two Frenchwomen ( mother and daughter) : the former 49 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, pale complexion, white hair ; dressed in black; and the latter 21 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, sallow complexion, light hair, wears spectacles ; dressed in black dress and hat.— Metropolitan Police, E Divi- sion,, Jemttary 8. Description of JOHN "^ HITTINGHAM, charged with stealing three Fowls ( recovered), the property of W. R. Norcop, Esq., of Betton House, Market Drayton, on the lst instant: about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, fair complexion, no beard or whiskers ; dressed in dark coat, light- coloured trousers, white tie, and low hard hat; he is a native of Stone, Staffordshire, and a tailor, but has lately been employed as cellarman at an hotel at Stoke- upon- Trent, and as footman at Betton House. Information to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchuich, or to Sergeant Howells, Market Drayton, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 8. Description of EDWARD YOUNG, alias GEORGE BROWN, a native of Bradford, Wilts, charged with stealing, on the 25th ultimo, at Radstock, a cloth Jacket, a black monkey Jacket, a pair of lace- up Boots with brass eyelets, and a new sealskin Cap, tied up at the side, the property of George Parfitt : 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight build, fresh complexion, and dark hair cut short ; he is a deserter from the 37th Brigade DepOt. Information to be given to Superintendent Deggan, Frome, or to Police Constable Lewis, Radstock, Somersetshire, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 8. Stolen from Market Drayton, on the 6th instant : a new double- breasted short pilot cloth Jacket, bound with braid, velvet collar, red and black plaid lining, horn buttons; a double- breasted Vest of same material, bound with braid ; and a pair of watertight Boots, No. 6 size, brass eyelets, double row of nails round outside, and three rows in centre, nearly new. By a tramping cooper, who gave his name GEORGE ALBERT SKELLEY, about 30jyears of age, about 5 feet 2 inches high, brown hair, pale swarthy com- plexion, no beard or whiskers, and dark moustache ; he has tramped about the country a good deal, but has resided in Drayton during the last five months. Information to be given to Superintendent Whieldon, Ashbourne, Derby, or to Inspector Taylor, Church Broughton, Derbyshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehension,— •— Bow- street, January 11. Description of EMMANUEL COHEN, a Jew, com- mitted for trial on the 24th October last, charged with obtaining £ 4 4s. by false pretences from Mary Cowley King, at Holbeaeh, and who has failed to surrender to his bail on the 7th instant : 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, black nair, cut short and frizzy, fresh complexion ; dressed in dark cloth clothes ; he is supposed to be travelling with marking, ink, and calls at fancy wool shops. Abseonded on the 30th ultimo, charged with obtaining- £ 2 by false pretences from John Naylor Warwick, of Lana- thorpe : JOHN PATRICK O'BRIEN, alias DUBLIN JACK, a tramping cooper, about 44 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, hair and whiskers turning grey, proportionate build, scar over left eye, and- 1 an old wound on one leg ; dressed in cotton cord trousers, brown or black coat and vest, and black cap, all old and very dirty. He is accompanied by his wife and a little boy : she is 25 yrs; of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, light hair, and stout buiid dressed in old cotton dress, grey shawl, aud old black bonnet: the boy is about 3 years old, and has light curly hair. Stolen on the morning of the 10th instant, from a dwelling- house in Penrith: an old blue cloth Coat, black covered buttons, two pockets outside, one large pocket inside skirt, ticket pocket, and torn under each arm ; a pair of new Boots, with elastic sides ; a double- breasted tweed Waistcoat, three packets outside and one inside ; a red and white cotton Pocket- handkerchief ; and a Scotch Cap. By a lodger, who absconded, a clogmaker, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, black hair, no whiskers, full face, large head, and is a native of Bradford; dressed in brown cloth coat, printed moleskin trousers, mended at the knees, aud clogs, or he may be wearing the stoleu boots and clogs. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Bridget Stables, of Dearham, in the county of Cumberland, on the 9th instant : a silver verge Watch, with albert hair Guard attached; a double- breasted grey tweed reefer . Description of JAMES TRAYNOR, alias CAPTAIN GEORGE TRAYNOR, who was on the 9th instant com- mitted for trial at the next North Riding Sessions, North- allerton, in April next, OD a charge of obtaining the following articles by false pretences, through the Exchange and Mart paper, on the 21st September last: a double- barrelled central fire breech- loading Gun, bright barrels aud locks ( 12 guage), the pin which fastens barrels to stock has half its head broken off, walnut stock with an iron- plate at each corner of butt- end; a double- barrelled muzzle- loading Gun, side bar locks' nipples in centre of breech, a small piece broken out of under side of muzzle, supposed right barrel, and stamped 15.
