Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or Btolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in referetHjg^ to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indisj^ nsably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise ti e insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and of Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, as above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDIIG. About 1 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, the dead body of a ful1 grown female child, was found in the vault of a privy, at Colne, Huntingdon, wrapped in a portion of the Peterboro' Advertiser. At the inquest, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown. Informaticn to be given to Superintendent Spencer, Police Station, St. Ives, Hunts.— Bow- street, January 4. About noon on the 21st instant the dead body of a full- grown female Child was found in a dike in Peterborough wrapped in new unbleached calico, black wadding and brown paper, a piece of black braid was found tied tightly round the child's neck. At the inquest a verdict was returned of Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Police Station, Peterborough, Northamptonshire.— Bow- st., Jan. 1. A reward of .£ 100 ( in addition to the ,£ 100 already offered, and to be paid by Her Majesty's government), will be paid by the family of the deceased James Beech, of Betchton, in the county of Chester, who was murdered in his house on the 23rd of September last, to any person or persons who will give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, such not being the person or persons who have actually com- mitted the murder. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Roubottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, or at any of the Police Stations in the county of Chester.— Bow- street, December 28. About 2 a. m. on the 19th instant, the dead Body of a full- grown female Child was found in an entry in Chancery- lane, in the borough of Bolton, wrapped in a portion of the ' Bolton Weekly Guardian ' newspaper, dated Nov. 15, 1874. At the inquest a verdict was returned of ' Wilful murder against some person or persona unknown.' Information to be given to Chief Constable Beecb, Bolton, Lancashire, Bow- street, Deiember 24. Description of JOHN MORAN, against whom a warrant has been issued, charging him with the wilful murder of Charles Langley, alias Rough Charlie, who died on the 2nd instant, from the effects of an assault committed upon him by Moran on the 26th ult., on which date Moran absconded : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, ruddy com- plexion, round features, brown hair, cut short, scar on left chcekbotfe, and clean shaved ; dressed usually as a horse dealer, which occupation he follows ; he is well known at the principal markets and fairs in the kingdom, and has also been engaged in England and Ireland as a trotting match rider. It is supposed that he will endeavour to emigrate. A reward of £ 50 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension of the said John Moran. Information to be given to Chief Constable Glossap, Police Office, Birming- ham.— Bow- street, December 23. old; an old black silk Jacket; two children's old cotton Frocks; four children's Petticoats, old: a brown silk Umbrella, with ivory handle ; a pair of man's old side- spring Boots ; a pair of woman's Goloshes ; a copper Kettle, without lid ; and a linen travelling Bag. By a man who pledged some of the stolen property at Hastings, on the 30th ultimo : about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout, a labourer; dressed in a dark jacket, with white slop under- neath, and a dark cap. Information to be given at the Constabulary Office, Lewes, to Superintendent . Tenner, Police Station, Court House, Battle, or any Police Station in East Sussex.— Bow- street, January 4. During the night of the 22nd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Carrills, Wollaton, near Nottingham, was broken and entered by two men, and it is believed that one or both of them was wounded wnile making their escape through the window by shots from a revolver : one is a stout man. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Palethorpe, County Police Station, Nottingham.— Bow- areeS, December 30. Stolen about 12 noon on the 22nd instant, from the dwelling- house of Thomas Cooper, of Kettleshulme, collier, by picking the lock of the front door : a black cloth Jacket and Vest, quite new ; a grey mixture Jacket and Yest ; a pair of light coloured Bedford cord Trousers ; and a pair of men's new lace- up Boots. Two men were seen near the place about the time, one wearing a billycock hat, the other a cap ; one of them is supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket. Information to be given to Superintendent Dale, County Police Office, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, December 28. Description of two men who absconded from South- ampton, on the 12th instant, charged with housebreaking, and stealing two gold Watches : NOAH LEE, 22 years of age, 5 feet 7J- inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion, sear on forehead near left eye, a gipsy, but has worked as a stoker in steam boats ; dressed in blue monkey jacket, blue cloth trousers, Scotch cap, with feather in it, and large muffler handkerchief, tied loosely round his neck. WILLIAM SULLIVAN, alias LEE, 19 years of ago, 5 feet 4i inches high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion ; dressed in blue cloth trousers, serge frock, has the appearance of a man- of- war's- man. They had in their possession a lady's gold Geneva Watch, plate glass, metal dome, and chased back. Information to be given to Head Constable Breary, Southampton, who holds a wairant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, December 23. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person on the 24th ultimo, at Barn- staple : an open- face silver lever Watch, maker John Gaydon, Barnstaple, No. 16515, capped; and gold Albert Chain, snake pattern, which has been mended in two places, and Key attached, with a white stone in it. Information to be given to Head Constable Songhurst, Barnstaple, Devon. — Bow- street, January 4. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from Chigwell Row : a bay Mare, a set of Harness, a Cart, a Coat, a Rug, and a Whip. — Metropolitan Police, N Division, January 4. Further information respecting the three Hereford Heifers, stolen from Morehampton Park, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 16th instant: they were missed on the 1st instant, and not on the 11th instant, as before stated. Any person giving such information tliat will lead to their recovery, and conviction of the offender or offenders, will be handsomly rewarded. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Tanner, Herefordshire Constabulary, Abbey Dore. — Bow- street, December 30. Stolen from a stable at Bradford Farm, Witheridge, about 6 p. m. on the 26th instant: a light bay cart Mare, 6 years old, lately clipped, in fair condition, 14- J hands high, hind legs white, one white forefoot, white face, and the fore feet turn out. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Wood, B Division, Devon Constabulary, South Molton.— Bow- street, December 30. Description of WILLIAM INGRAM, for whose appre- hension a warrant has been issued for stealing two Steers ( recovered), the property of George Redman, at Lullingstone : He is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, dark hair, and whiskers shaved off ; dressed in black frock or dark brown coat, cord trousers, brown woollen waistcoat, lace- up boots, dark brown dog skin cap, ia a drover aud a native of Ivy Hatch, Wroth am, Kent; has been convicted of felony, ia kL. own at the Spur public- house, Borough, London, and is supposed to be residing at or near to 4, King's- place, South- wirk, London. Information to be given to Superintendent Fread, Kent Constabulary, Dartford.— Bow- street, Dec. 28. dark blue pilot Jacket, with Mack horn buttons, double- breasted, and bound with black worsted braid, and a round hard black Hat. By a lodger named JOHN GAMBLE, of Wigston, Leicester, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair and moustache ; dressed in pepper- and- salt coloured jaeket, cord trousers, fly fronts, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen jacket over his own. He has travelled about the coantry with a shooting gallery. Information to be given to Superintendent Coope, Alfreton, Derbyshire, who balds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 30. Absconded from Browe, Norfolk, on the 15th instant, charged with larceny : HENRY, alias HARRY HUNT, a labourer, about 60 years of age, about 5 feet & inches high, slender build, dark complexion, dark short hair, turning grey, and no whiskers ; dressed in a brown velveteen coat, cord trousers, dark hairy cap, and lace- up boots. Informa- tion to be given to the Police, Bungay, Suffolk.— Bow- street, December 28. Stolen from a dwelling- house in Rochdale, on the 18th ultimo : a pair of dirty Bedford cord Trousers ; a pair of black cloth Trousers, lined ; a pair of black and white striped moleskin Trousers ; a black cloth shooting Coat, two pockets outside, one left breast; a dark brown plush Vest; a dark cloth Vest ; a pair of Wellington Boots, not much worn ; two white flannel Singlets ; a blaek and white plaid woollen Shirt ; three pairs of worsted Stockings ; a pair of lace- up Boots, in good repair; and a large blue and white coloured Handkerchief. By a lodger, giving the name of JOHN MORRIS, supposed to be a collier, and a native of Staffordshire : about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, very dark complexion, dark hair and moustache, round face, and hair cut short. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Rochdale, Lancashire.— Bow- street, December 28. Absconded on the 18th instant from Warran- street, Fitzroy- square, stealing— a gold Geneva Watch; a lady's gold neck Chain ( jack pattern). Locket attached ( portrait" of a child one side, hair reverse; a gold Brooch, oval shape : a Bonnet, trimmed with black and violet feathers; and a grey linsey Dress, trimmed with black velvet : a woman, 22 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, and blue eyes; e£ respectable appearance.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, December 24. Stolen from a watchmaker's workshop, in Manchester, during the ' ast ten days : a gold English lever Watch, No. 4110 ; a ditto, No. 1079, ' Wilkinson, Leeds,' on. cap ; a ditto, No. 26345, maker Ollivant, Manchester; a ditto, No. 82217, maker H. Batty, Manchester ; a ditto, No. 12092, maker G. Hammond, Manchester ; a ditto, No. 50906, maker Porthouse, London ; a ditto, No. 73440; a ditto, No. 42131 ; a ditto, No. 12462 ; a dit'ts, No. 6750, maker Goldstone, Manchester; a ditto, No. 20841 ; a ditto, No. 8117, maker John Ilall, Manchester; a ditto, No. 10265, maker Webb, London ; a ditto, f plate, No. 845, maker Spreat, Manchester; a gold Watch, No. 7011, maker Broadbank, London ; and a silver English Lever, No. 7511, maker W. By a watchmaker, named Henry Brown, who absconded at 8 p. m. on the 21st instant: he is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, rather slender, dark complexion, long moustache, twisted up at the ends ; dressed in a black cloth suit, trousers tight at knees, and loose bottoms, and black silk hat; he was formerly in buisness as a watchmaker iu Fownes- street, Dublin. A reward of £ 20 will be paid for his apprehension, and recovery of the property, or in propor- tion to the value recovered. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Cheapside, Manchester.— Bow- street, Dec. 24. Description of JOHN ROBERTS, a Welshman, charged upon a warrant with embezzlement : 29 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, rather stoutly built, fresh complexion, full face, black hair, dark brown whiskers and moustache ; dressed in black billycock hat, black pilot cloth monkey jacket, with velvet collar, white fustian double- breasted vest, two rowa of black buttons, new corduroy trousers, fall front, grey flannel shirt, with red stripes, coloured woollen muffler, strong lace- up boots, with tips on heels and toes. He can speak a little English, and was seen on the 18th instant at Criccieth, Carnarvonshire. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Hughes, Towyn, or to Sergeant Jones, Four Crosses, Festiniog, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, December 24. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking between the 23rd ult., and 1st instant, at Hollington, near Hastings : two Blankets; a cotton Sheet: four chamber Towels; a white jean Vest; two white marcella children's Jackets, old; an alpaca Polannaise, trimmed with blaek silk velvet; a grey Llama Skirt, trimmed with blue braid ; a lavender muslin Skirt, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. JOHN WAY, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 23rd ultimo, charged with larceny from Messrs. Abbot and Son, has been apprehended and sentenced to two months imprisonment. Information to be given to Head Constable Vanstone, Bideford, North Devon.— Bow- street, January 4. Absconded on the 18th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing two suits of Clothes, one black mixture, and one white check : WILLIAM SMITH, a groom, 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, small whiskers ; he ia a native of Reading, and haa been in service at Ryde, Isle of Wight. Information to be given to the Superintendent of Police, Town Hall, Folkestone, Kent.— Bow- street, Jan. 1. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Angus Griffiths, of Ironville, ia the county of Derby, on the 24th instant: a FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of JOHN WILKINSON, alias GEORGE SMITH, a groom or coachman, charged with obtaining two paira of Boots, by false pretences, from the boot- shop of Sarah Dew, at Ilitchiu, on the 15th ultimo : he is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, rather dark slight whiskers; dressed in black clothes, black high hat, and carries a cane; he has an active jockey- like appearance. Information to be given to Inspector Young, Hitchiu, Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow street, January 4. A warrant has been granted for the apprehension of a man named GEORGE CORRY, charged with obtaining a quantity of goods from several tradesmen in Leamington. Amongst the goods obtained were a gold Geneva Watch, with dial and dome, engraved back, No. 25221 ; a gold Geneva Watch, engine turned back, garter and shield, with gilt dome, No, 15642; and a gold Geneva Watch, engraved back, gilt 2 POLICE GAZETTE. January 4 dome and dial, No. 45411. The Watches are supposed to have been pledged or sold in the neighbourhood of Padding- ton or Islington. Corry is about 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fair complexion, light whiskers and moustache, and no beard. He is well known to the N Division of the Metropolitan Police. Information to be given to Superintendent Lund, Town Hall, Leamington, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, Dec. 28. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Remanded at Middlesborough, until the 9th instant, charged with larceny: JAMES McCANN, a holder- up in ship- yards, 28 years of age, 5 feet inches high, fresh com- plexion, sandy hair, no whiskers or moustache, dark grey eyes, has a white scar on his belly, arms much fawnfreckled, and brown marks on his breast; dressed in a black and green plaid suit, black billycock hat, and elastic boots ; he states that he is a native of Leeds, which place he left when about 5 years old, and went to reside in High- street, Poplar, London, and worked for an iron- ship builder as a rivet heater, about July and August last, he worked six weeks for a boilermaker, Holbeck- lane, Leeds, and was repairing some boilers for a sanitary pipe manufacturer, York- road, Leeds. Information to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Borough Police Station, Middlesborough. — Bow- street, January 4. Left his home at Cradley Heath, in the parish of Rowley Regis, Staffordshire ( for the purpose of going to Birmingham on business) at 2 p. m. on the 2nd ultimo, and has not since been heard of : SAMUEL BROMLEY, plumber and glazier, 32 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light hair and com- plexion ; dressed in rough dark overcoat, grey mixed trousers, plaid scarf, and Scotch cap. He had in his possession a silver watch with gold Albert guard attached, and £ 20 in cash. It is feared that some ill has befallen him, or that he has met with some foul treatment. Information to be given to Inspector Price, Police Station, Old , Hill, Dudley, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, January 4. Description of JAMES JOYCE, a tramping groom and gardener, a native of Fen Drayton, Cambridgeshire, who is remanded at Penrith, Cumberland, until the 5th instant, charged with larceny : 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout figure, fresh complexion, dark hair, and small dark whiskers ; dressed in old dark tweed jacket, light coloured small- ribbed cord waistcoat, knee breeches and gaiters, and black billycock hat. He states that he deserted from the 55th Regiment of Foot, in October, 1873, and that before he enlisted, he was summarily convicted of larceny at Cambridge. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Penrith, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumber- land.— Bow- street, January 4. About 2- 30 a. m. of the 1st instaut, the dead body of a newly- born full- grown female Child was found in a 3rd class railway carriage of the Great Northern Railway Company, which arrived at the Great Grimsby Town Station from London at 8' 55 p. m. on the 31st ultimo, wrapped up in a piece of old flannel petticoat, then made up like a parcel in a square of brown paper, and tied with a string. At the inquest an open verdict was returned. Information to be given to Head Constable Campbell, Town Hall, Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire..— Bow- street, January 4. Description of JOSEPH HEMMINGS, alias HENRY HEVINS, alias EYANS, in custody at Crewe Police Station, charged with stealing a gold Watch ( recovered) from the person of a geutlemau at Crewe Railway Station at 1 a. m. on the 31st ultimo : he first stated that he was a machinist but has since stated that he is a cotton spinner, 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, slender make, brown hair, grey eyes, fair complexion, round features, no whiskers or moustache, has a seal on back of right wrist, mole on right side of top lip, mole on right cheek, small seal on left side of neck, and a scar on right side of forehead; dressed in a ribbed blue cloth double- breasted jacket, bound with dark green braid, buttons covered with the same material, pocket outside each skirt, and one inside right breast, a pair of drab striped tweed trousers, double- breasted vest of same material, black horn buttons, a new puce and black woollen plaid shirt, white silk neckerchief, hard felt hat, white ribbed- cotton socks, light watertight boots, brass eyelet- holes, and a new double- breasted brown cloth oyercoat, buttons covered with same material, lined with dark alpaca, pocket outside each skirt, ticket pocket, and one inside left breast. Had in his possession a dark- handle Knife, has two blades, German silver shoulders, a small piece of German silver let in one side of handle, and ' W. Spooner' scratched on the handle ; a 9- carat gold Ring, set with a dark brown stone; two fancy imitation geld albert Chains ; and a brass Check, with' Allen, Everett, and Sons, Kingston Metal Works,' round it, and ' 149' in the middle, attached to a common brass albert Chain ; three Sovereigns, 2s. 6d. in Silver, and 7d. Copper. He states that he was born in Oxford, and that he and his relatives lodge with a cotton spinner at Water- side, Bacup, Lancashire; that he works at Water- side Mill, Bacup, and that he has worked at the Co- operative Mill, Bacup; he also states that he left Bacup on Christmas- eve and went to Birmingham on a visit to his uncle, a labourer, residing at Acorn Inn, Public- house- yard, Oxford- street, Birmingham. Information to be given to Superintendent Saxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Crewe, Cheshire, who will send a photograph on application.— Bow- street, January 4. Description of WILLIAM HELSEY, remanded at Worcester to the 6th instant on suspicion of having stolen an unfinished Night- dress, trimmed with tatting : about 19 yrs. of age, 5 feet inches high, dark hair, dark eyes, and fresh complexion, has lost third finger of right hand. In his pos- session were Pawn- tickets for the following Articles : a new reefer Jacket, bound with braid, sleeves lined with scarlet, and in the pocket was a piece of tobacco- paper marked ' R. Dixon, 35, High- street, Tewkesbury'; a worn reefer Jacket; a black cloth Jacket, with pockets on sides ; a pair of side- spring Boots, pegged ; a pair of brown kid Gloves; a black, white, and red Muffler. Information to be given to the Worcester City Police.— Bow- street, January 1. Remanded until the 6th proximo, charged with larceny at Donington on Bain, Lincolnshire : GEORGE WEBB, of Kencott, Oxfordshire,! 45 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow complexion, dark hair, turning grey, dark brown eyes, and a sear on back of left hand. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, Lincolnshire Constabulary, Louth. — Bow- street, December 30. Absconded on the 28th instant, while on license, from Ingleby Greenhow, North Riding of Yorkshire : No. 307 FREDERICK BATTY, 17 years of age, about 5 feet 2 ins. high, light brown hair, grey eyes, sharp features, clear com- plexion, and scar on left thumb; supposed to be dressed in dark mixture tweed cloth coat and vest, corduroy trousers, new - dark frieze topcoat, hard felt hat, and lace boots. £ 1 reward, with all reasonable expenses will be paid for his apprehension, by the Rev. R. G. Fish, Castle Howard Reformatory, Welburn, York.— Bow- street, December 30. Description of a man wlio is charged with obtaining board and lodgijfjg from the 19th to the 21st instant and 12s. 6d., by false pretences, at Sutton Heath, near Church Broughton : about- 65 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, ordinary make, stoops a little, almost white hair, grey whiskers or moustache, dark imperial, fresh complexion, is very talkative, and of shabby genteel appearance ; dressed in a dark great- coat, coat, and vest, narrow striped dark grey trousers, darned at the knee, red checked shirt, paper collar, no necktie, blue ribbed worsted stockings, lace- up boots, and high- erowned billycock hat. Had a Watch and Chain, which he represented to be gold, and carried a walking Stick in his hand. He spoke a good deal about Newcastle- under- Lyme, Stoke- on- Trent, Silverdale, Barlaston ( where he said he came from), and other pottery towns. Information to be given to Superintendent Whieldon, Ashbourne, or to Inspector Taylor, Church Broughton, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, December 30. Description ef HARRY HENDEN, watchmaker and jeweller, of Dartford, who left his home and proceeded to Birmingham on business on the 21st instant, since which nothing has been heard of him : 27 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, slight moustache, dark hair, and pale face ; dressed in black cloth trousers and vest ( double- breasted), black frock coat, black rough overcoat, velvet collar, right hand outside pocket torn, black silk hat, with very deep mourning band, carried a black billycock hat in his pocket, elastic- side boots, military fronts, striped socks, white cotton shirt, gold studs, with bluish stones, black knot tie, black sleeve links, hair albert, with gold mounts, gold Geneva lever watch, coloured gold locket, with child's photograph and ' In Memory of' engraved on it, brown india- rubber tobacco pouch, pocket- knife, and is supposed to have had a consider- able amount of money in his possession. He intended calling in Yyse- street and Richard- street, Birmingham, also at the Bell Foundry, Birmingham. It is feared that some ill has befallen him, or that he has met with some foul treatment. Absconded from Lusk Prison, Dublin, and was last seen at 11- 30 a. m. on the 15th inst. : JEREMIAH DOHERTY, 24 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, light brown hair, smal! dark whiskers under his chin, small dark moustache, brown eyes and eyebrows, small cocked nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, slender make, shamrock and anchor tattooed on left arm ; dressed in a dark frieze monkey jacket, barragan vest, cord trousers, jerry hat, and navvy boots, all marked ' L. P.' He was convicted on the 6th July, 1869, at Cork City, is a labourer, was born in Kiibenny, co. Limerick, resided before conviction at Upton Reformatory, and his friends reside at Kiibenny. A reward of from £ 3 to £ 5 will be paid to any person who may apprehend and deliver up a convict who shall have effected his escape from a govern- ment prison, on application to the Governor of the prison.
