WHEREAS, on the evening of the 5th September last, about the hour of half past 6 o'clock, an affray took place at Derryland, in the parish cf Tartaraghan, in the county of Armagh, during which James Donnelly was knocked down and severely assaulted : And whereas shortly after the above occurrence, six men, from the county of Tyrone, viz., Peter and Patrick Heffernan, John and George M'Grath, and James and Cornelius O'Neill, when passing in carts through the above- named townland, were also attacked at. d very severely beaten with sticks by a large party of persons unknown: I hereby offer a reward of £ 50 to any person who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as will lead to the bringing to justice the principal offenders in the outrages in question. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Cunningham, native of town of Cavan, who stands committed for having, on the night of the 28rd or morning of 24th instant, in the barony of Ikeathy and Oughterany, parish of Kilcock, robbed James Reilly, of Summerhill and county of Meath, of 6s. in a lodging- house :— Slight hollow like a dimple near left eye; light gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, oval face, slight make, 5 feet high, about 13 or 14 years of age, light brown hair; wore a soft low hat, dark coat and trowsers, dark tweed vest, old striped flannel shirt, and was barefooted. A plain silver lever watch was also found in his possession, which he could not account for, supposed to be stolen, and not yet identified. Description of watch:— A new plain silver patent lever watch, No. 18816 ; maker's name " Joseph W. Bennett, King's- bridge," on the dial inside plate. DESCRIPTION of William ROSS, native of Ballina- muck, who stands charged with having, on the 6th day of July, 1874, in the barony of Longford, parish of Killoe, and county of Longford, seriously assaulted Michael Cassedy, by kicking him in the abdomen, from the effects of which he died on the 8th instant:— Right leg bowed at the knee, caused by a fracture ; holds his head to one side, has a peculiar expres- sion about the eyes ; regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, very black hair; wore a low hat, gray frieze coat, dark trowsers, frieze vest. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Cunningham alias M'Guire, native place not known, who was arrested in Carrickmacross on the 26th instant, and is mspected of having committed off nces elsewhere : Has an old mark jrom the bite of a dog cm. the bridge of the nose ; gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, dark com- plexion, common face, medium make, 6 feet 3 inches high, about 29 years of age, black hair, small black whiskers round chin; wore a brown coat, corduroy trowsers and vest. He pawned a shirt in Newry, under the name of P. Cunningham, and also a trowsers and a pair of boots. In Dundalk he pawned a black vest, giving his name as John M'Guire. DUBLIN CASTLE, 6th November, 1874. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, on or about the evening of the 23rd or morning of the 24th ultimo, a man named Edward Ferguson was murdered in his house near Sligo: And whereas there is reason to suspect that this murder was committed by a tramp, named John M'Daid, who had been discharged from the Sligo Workhouse, on the 22nd ultimo: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrator of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the said John M'Daid. By His Grace's Command, M. E. HICKS BEACH. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by T. W. French, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Sligo, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. £ 50 REWARD. WHEREAS, on the night of the 23rd or morning of the 24th ultimo, the under- mentioned articles were stolen out of the house of Edward Ferguson, when he was murdered, near Sligo:— A silver watch, hunting case, large size, Geneva make, with bars on works, set with jewels, case strong and not much worn, number of watch supposed on dial- plate; silk guard; brass key, having the name " Wilkins" on it; a snuff box, black shiny wood, a bit of ivory on the lid ; a blue pilot frock coat, double- breasted, large silk buttons, two pockets outside with flaps, oco inside, lined with gray tweed, calico lining in sleeves; dark tweed vest; a pair of new Wellington boot's; a new silk hat; a black silk necktie; a sum of money, supposed about £ 40; a drab leather purse, having a rim of iron round mouth and a'spring; also a case of razors: I hereby offer a reward of £ 50 to any person who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the recovery of the above stolen property, or a proportionate part of the above reward for any portion of the property referred to, according to its value. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following descriptions, and Pawn- offices should be searched for the stolen articles referred to: DESCRIPTION of John M'Daid alias DIgnan, supposed to be a native of county Tyrone, who stands charged with having, on the 28rd ultimo, in the barony of Carbury, parish of Calry, burglariously entered the house of and murdered Edward Ferguson, and stolen therefrom the following articles, as de- scribed, which he maybe wearing:— Mark of a firing iron on left hip, received in hospital for disease, 6 inches long, across the hip in scores, causing a slight halt when walking; a military bearing; hangs- down his head when speaking ; a dangerous scowl on counteiM^ L THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, N O V E M B E R 17, 1 8 7 4 . a; fk desperate- looking; square shoulders, long thin • f jers; draws his under lip into his mouth between his teeth; piercing dark hazel eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, ill- looking face, sore feet, stout make, 6 feet 9J inches high, about 32 years of age, reddish fair curly hair; wore a moustache and whiskers, which he may cut off; wore a fustian jacket* like a painter's, dark tweed trowsers, dark vest; bare- footed; speaks with a slight English accent; was a tramp in Sligo Workhouse; said be came from Glasgow, where he had been working in a shipyard, served in the army, 65th Regiment; had sun- strcke in India. Workhouses, should be looked after. Description of the under- mentioned articles, stolen out of the house of Edward Ferguson, when he was murdered, near Sligo :— A silver watch, hunting cases, large size, Geneva make, with bars on works set with jewels, cases strong and not much worn, num- ber of watch supposed on dial- plate; silk guard ; brass key, having the name " Wilkins" on it; a snuff box, black shiny wood, a bit of ivory on the lid; a blue pilot frock coat, double breasted, large silk buttons, two pockets outside with flaps, one inside, lined with gray tweed, calico lining in sleeves; dark tweed vest; a pair of new Wellington boots ; a new silk hat; a black silk necktie ; a sum of money, supposed about £ 40 ; a drab leather purse, having a rim of iron round mouth and a spring; also a case of razors.
