DUBLIN, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1874. ENGLISH POLICE. WILFUL MURDER. £ 100 REWARD. A verdict of wilful murder has been recorded by the Coroner's Jury against Robert Caveney, for having violently kicked George Edwards on the head and body, from the effects of which he died on the 30th ult. ~ Caveney is a private in the 5th Lancashire Militia, and until recently resided with his father in Rochdale, and is of the following description, viz.:— About 20 years of age, 5 feet 5f inches high, stout build, thick lips, full face, fresh complexion, brown hair cut short, and blue eyes; dressed in blue pilot cloth jacket, mole- skin vest and trowsers, rough cloth cap with a knob on top, and clogs ; is by trade a cardroom jobber, but has been employed as a bricklayer's labourer. He absconded from this borough on the 18th ultimo. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer. DESCRIPTION of James Jones, alias Bernard M'Loughlin, native of Armagh, who stands charged with having, on the morning of 19th November, 1874, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankill, entered the house of Valentine Norton, No. 2, Joy- street, in the town of Belfast, stolen a coat therefrom and grievously assaulted Norton and his wife, from the effects of which their lives are in danger: — Cut- mark on bend of right arm, sore- mark on right shin; gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plenion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 80 years of age; erect carriage, very sharp eye, speaks like a Northern business man, hands not like a labourer'^, square shoulders ; wore a cloth cap with " cheesecutter" peak, short black coat, perhaps drab trowsers with dark stripe down side; he may instead of thi* dress wears flat soft hat, long dark gray coat, no buttons behind but small slit behind, turr- down collar; is a returned convict. He is supposed to h ive left Belfast with a returned convict named Alexander Brown, na'ive of Port- stewart, county Londonderry, about 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 36 years of age, pale complexion, blue eyes, rather large nose, flat between the eyes, narrow high cheek- bones, very slightly pockmarked— the most conspicuous spot being near the point of the nose— brown hair; right arm a little contracted, has lost first joint of small finger of right hand— the finger contracted— small cut- mark on left temple, brown whiskers— the point of chin only being shaved— no moustache, walks in a slovenly manner like a c untryman; an : nt, elligent man; wears a light- coloured coarse tweed office coat, dark tweed trowsers with black stripe, dark single- breasted vest, either a soft hat Or an imitation sealskin cap ; is a pickpocket. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, on or about the evening of the 23rd or morning of the 24th ultimo, a man named Edward Ferguson was murdered in his house near Sligo: And whereas there is reason to suspect that this murder was committed by a tramp, named John M'Daid, who had been discharged from the Sligo Workhouse, on thp 22nd ultimo: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrator of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the said John M'Daid. By His Grace's Command, M. E. HICKS BEACH. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by T. W. French, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Sligo, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. £ 50 REWARD. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following descriptions, and Pawn- offices should be searched for the stolen articles referred to: DESCRIPTION of John M'Daid alias Dignan, supposed to be a native of counly Tyrone, who stands charged with having, on the 28rd ultimo, in the barony of Carbury. parish of Calry, burglariously entered the house of and murdered Edward Ferguson, and stolen therefrom the following articles, as de- scribed, which he may be wearing:— Mark of a firing iron on left hip, received in hospital for disease, 0 inches long, across the hip in scores, causing a slight halt when walking; a military bearing; hangs down his head when speaking ; a dangerous scowl on countenance, and desperate- looking; square shoulders, long thin fingers ; drams his under lip into his mouth betweeh his teeth ; piercing dark hazel eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, ill- looking face, sore feet, stout make, 5 feet 9£ inches high, about 32 years of age, reddish fair cuily hair; wore a moustache and whiskers, which he may cut off; wore a fustian jacket like a painter's, dark tweed trowsers, dark vest; bare- footed; speaks with a slight English accent; was a tramp in Sligo Workhouse; said he oame from Glasgow, where he had been working in a shipyard, served in the army, 65th Regiment; had sun- stroke in India. Description of the under- mentioned articles, stolen out of the house of Edward Ferguson, when he was n urdered, near Sligo :— A silver watch, hunting cases, large size, Geneva make, with bars on works set with jewels, cases strong and not much worn, num ber of watch supposed on dial- plate ; silk guard; brass key, having the name " Wilkins" on it; a snuff box, black shiny wocd, a bit of ivory on the lid; a blue pilot frock coat, double breasted, large silk buttons, two pockets outside with flaps, one inside, lined with gray tweed, calico lining in sleeves; dark tweed vest; a pair of new W; llington boots ; a new silk hat; a black silk necktie ; a sum of money, supposed about £ 40 ; a drab leather purse, having a rim of iron round mouth and a spring; also a case of razors.
