No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, e. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1874. ENGLISH POLICE. WILFUL MURDER. £ 100 REWARD. A verdict of wilful murder has been recorded by the Coroner's Jury against Robert Caveney, for having violently kicked George Edwards on the head and body, from the effects of which he died on the 30th ult. Caveney is a private in the 5th Lancashire Militia, and until recently resided with his father in Rochdale, and is of the following description, viz.:— About 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 J inches high, stout build, thick lips, full face, fresh complexion, brown hair cut short, and blue eyes ; dressed in blue pilot cloth jacket, mole- skin vest and trowsers, rough cloth cap with a knob on top, and clogs ; is by trade a cardroom jobber, but has been employed as a bricklayer's labourer. He absconded from this borough on the 18th ultimo. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who shall give such infor- mation and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Oldham. Town Hall, Oldham, November 8, 1874. A. 0 TIIE following is a description of property stolen on the 7th instant, during the visit of their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales to this city:— ' A lady's silver lever watch, open face, basket of flowers engraved on case and " Elizabeth Lenton" on plate, number unknown; 3 old- fashioned double- cased verge watches, numbers unknown lady's plain gold ring, set with 6 or 7 turquoises; a Tsuly's plain gold ring, set with 2 red stones, 2 emeralds-, and 2 pearls ; a lady's gold ring, set with 3 red stones and 6 crystals, 1 crystal missing j 2 plated neck- chains, lockets attached, one large size, blue enamel one side, the other\> ne plain ; a gold and cameo scarf- pin ; a small gold engraved pencil case; a pair plain gold earrings; a silver thimble; a pocket- book contain- ing memoranda and receipts; a briar- root pipe and case, cracked bowl; an old- fashioned silver lever watch, open face, much worn, number unknown ; a long gold guard, cable pattern ; a long gold guard, twisted pattern; a lady's gold ring, " Mizpali" in raised letters ; a lady's fancy ring, set with 2 small diamonds and a ruby ; a lady's plain keeper ; a pair silver gravy spoons, plain pattern, not marked ; 3 silver tea spoons, small size, very old, chased handles; 2 scarf pins— one solid gold head round and cut— the other, gold ball in centre of two gold rings; a pair flat gold solitaires, chased, pearl backs; about £ 4 in " lion shillings ;" a silver lever watch, open face, gold hands, cream coloured dial slightly cracked, supposed to have date of make inside; a silver lever watch, 10 size, open face, white dial, steel hands, engine- turned cases, supposed to have date of make inside; a twisted pattern silver guard; 2 silver thimbles; 2 pair earrings— one pair jet, rose pattern— one pair gilt, acorn pattern; a brooch and earrings to match, gilt, with steel studs; a cameo brooch ( woman's head); a seal- skin purse, lined blue corded silk; a Geneva hunter watch, white dial, steel hands, nearly new, " J. W. Groom, 8, Hill Cross, Coventry," scratched on case; a gold lever watch, engine- turned case, open face, gold dial, landscape subject— shepherd and flock— engraved on dial, on back on inner case " J. Sibree, 1845," maker's name " John Flinn'' on works ; a silver lever watch, 14 size, open face, consular cases, No. 12311 ; a nicklc- silver watch, lever movement, flat bezil glass; a silver lever watch, " J. h. Fennell" on plate, sprung above, in one pair, railway bezil, No. 1872 ; a French watch, gold plate, " M. A. C." engraved on back. It is respectfully requested that information will be circulated at jewellers', silversmiths', and pawnbrokers', and any information received in respect thereof for- arded to John Norris, Chief of Police. DESCRIPTION of jewellery, the property of F. N. Burton, esq., J. P., of Carrownelly, which was stolen from his house, at Carrownelly, parish of Clare Abbey, barony of Islands, viz.:— A single- case watch, about the size of a shilling, blue enamelled back with a cluster of diamonds in the shape of a pansy in the centre, white dial. Three rings, half- hoop diamonds, half- hoop ruby, and a small cluster of dia- monds. A bunch of charms, consisting of 3 lockets, 2 of them plain gold and 1 green enamelled gold, all double- cased. A gun. A silver fish. A Turk enamelled in various colours. A gold tipsey key belonging to the watch above mentioned, and other keys. A circular Scotch brooch, believed to be gold ; this brooch is a circlet of gold about J inch wide, in the centre is set a large cairngorm, and round the circlet are 6 pebb'es raised on small gold stems. DESCRIPTION of 4 men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of the 5th November, 1874, in the barony of Upper Kells, parish of Kilskeer, entered the house of Anthony Flood, of Ballinagun, Upper, and having demanded and searched for arms, which they failed to find, assaulted him by striking him on the head and arms with sticks loaded with lead :— 1. Unknown— Dark complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 80 years of age, black hair, black whiskers worn round under chin, upper lip shaved; wore a soft black felt hat, dark frieze frock coat, corduroy trowsers. 2. Unknown— Sallow complexion, very stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 28 years of age, black hair; wore a black cloth cap, white frieze thread bare frock coat, corduroy trowsers. 8. Unknown— Red complexion, stout make, fi fe t 5 inches high, about 26 years of age, black hair; wore a black soft felt hat, white frieze threadbaro frock coat, corduroy trows erg. 4. Unknown— Fair complexion, is much freckled, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair, no hair 011 face ; wore a soft felt hat, dark frieze frock coat, corduroy trowsers. A WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord!^ Lieutenant, that, at the hour of ten o'clock, on the night of the 17th ultimo, three men, named THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, DE3EMBE5, 18, 1874. respectively James Weaver, Luke Weaver and Thomas Connolly, were waylaid and assaulted in Pound- street, in the town of Sligo, and Luke Weaver was seriously injured: 1 lis Grace, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Grace's Command, M. E. HICKS BEACH. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by T. W. French, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Sligo, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. The special attention of the Constabulary is directed to the following descriptions, and Pawn- offices should be searched for the stolen articles referred to: DESCRIPTION of John M'Daid alias Dignan, supposed to be a native of county Tyrone, who st nds charged with having, on the 23rd ultimo, in the barony of Carbury, parish of Calry, burglariously entered the house of and murdered Edward Ferguson, and stolen therefrom the following articles, as de- scribed, which he may be wearing i— Marle of a firing iron on left liip, received in hospital for disease, 6 inches long. across the hip in scores, causing a slight halt when walking; a military bearing; hangs down his head when speaking; a dangerous scowl on countenance, and desperate- looking; square shoulders, long thin fingers ; draws his tender lip into his mouth between his teeth ; piercing dark hazel eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, ill- looking face, sore feet, stout make, 6 feet 9J inches high, about 32 years of age, reddish fair curly hair; wore a moustache and whiskers, which he may cut off; wore a fustian jacket like a painter's, dark tweed trowsers, dark vest; bare- footed; speaks with a slight English accent; was a tramp in Sligo Workhouse; said he came from Glasgow, where he had been working in a shipyard, served in the army, 65th Regiment; had sun- strcke in India. Workhouses should be looked after. Description of the under- mentioned articles, stolen out of the house of Edward Ferguson, when he was t: urdered, near Sligo :— A silver watch, hunting cases, large size, Geneva make, with bars on works, set with jewels, cases strong and not much worn, num- ber of watch supposed on dial- plate; silk guard ; brass key, having the name " Wilkins" on it; a snuff box, black shiny wood, a bit of ivory on the lid; a blue pilot frock coat, double breasted, large silk buttons, two pockets outside with flaps, one inside, lined with gray tweed, calico lining in sleeves; dark tweed vest; a pa r of new Wellington boots ; a new silk hat; a black silk necktie ; a sum of money, supposed about £ 40 ; a drab leather purse, having a rim of iron round mouth and a spring; also a case of razors. DESCRIPTION of a woman, name and native place unknown, who stands charged, on suspicion, with having, on the night of 4th November, 1874, about 10 o'clock, in the barony cf Scarawalsh, parish of St. Mary, deserted a male child bout 3 months old, at the outer gate of Enniscorthy Workhouse, thereby exposing his life to danger :— A large dimple in her chin ; tidy appearance; small eyes, fresh complexion, small face:, s i ht make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 25 or 30 years of age, brown hair ; wore a turned- .-' down summer hat, with blue ribbons, an old shawl, dark Wit cey dress with braid round the bottom of it, pair of new laced boots f shd came to Enniscorthy, by the 9 P. M. train, on 4th instant, and had then an infant in her arms, entered a lodging- house without a child, about 11 o'clock, P. M., remained for the night, and left about 7 o'clock tho next morning ; she was observed to have gone the road leading to Newtownbarry and Gorey; she stated that she came from Ballycannow, county Wexford, where she lived with an aunt, and had purposed, when leaving home, to have returned, by train, on 4th instant.
