DUBLIN, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1874. SCOTTISH POLICE. ON ihe afternoon of Wednesday, the 28th instant, a young man, of respectable appearance, whose de- scription is annexed, went into a jeweller's shop here, and personated a spirit merchant in this town, and induced the jeweller to sell him a gold lever keyless watch. No. 36,910, and a gold seal of the Bhape of a shield, with blood stone, and which by opening makes a locket, at. the price of £ 22, which sum he undertook to pay to the jeweller's assistant, who, by arrangement, accompanied him to a house in Brougham- street to get the cash. On arriving at the house, the jeweller's assistant was shown into the dining- room by the purchaser of the watch, who promised to bring the money immediately. The patience of the jeweller's assistant soon became ex- hausted, and, on inquiring of the tenant of the house for the purchaser, it was found that he had quitted the house as soon as he had left the assistant in the dining- room. The tenant could give no clue to h; s whereabouts. It appears that he had only engaged rooms at the house in question on the same afternoon. When on his way from the jeweller's shop to the house. sin Brougham- street, he stopped in West Blackhall- street and had some conversation with a young man whose description I have been unable to ascertain. The watch and seal were probably handed to this person, who, it is suspected, was a confederate. It has been discovered that a similar attempt was made here this afternoon upon another jeweller by the same party without success. The watch has been recovered in Glasgow, where it was pledged for £ 10. The Police are requested to have a careful search made for the missing seal, and, if possible, to have the accused apprehended. Any information which may b* of use in tracing the accused will bo gladly received by- the subscriber. Description of accused :— Between 24 and 30 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, black hair parted in centre, slender make, pale and thin face, speaks with a slight Irish accent; dressed in a dress hat, black frock coat, gray trowsers, black sailor's knot necktie, a new gold Albert chain and a gold finger ring.
