MUSBEE AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, On the 27ill ult., HANNAH WOOD, alias HANNAH MIDWOOD, deserted aud attempted to murder her female infant child, at Disley, iu the county of Chester, by leaving it on a wall and placing some stones over it: she is from 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet high, pale complexion, slender make, black hair, small dark eyes, a little bald ou top of head, and • rood teeth ; dreBsed in a yellow aud white striped silk dress, black velvet jacket fitting tight to the body, puce and black lace bonnet, with a piuk rose, and gilt ear- rings, with blue stones iu the rings, aud a blue stripe half- way iu the drop ; she is supposed to belong to Saddleworth, Yorkshire. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Lawton, County Police Station, Stockport, Cheshire.— Bow- street, ( September 7. On the 3rd ultimo, PETER CAMPBELL, alias MIDGE • or MIDGIE, in company with two other men now under remand, caused, by kicking, the death of Richard Morgan, at | Liverpool: he is 21 or 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, proportionate build, dark brown hair, cut short, no whiskers, beard, or moustache, blue or grey eyes, rather ( . prominent and well formed nose, pale complexion inclined to • fair, rather long oval face, good forehead, the first finger of the right hand or the second of the left hand bent and stiff from a cut inside ; dressed in an old shabby black frock coat, which was rather short for him. dirty striped moleskin trousers iu imitation of cloth, with black stripe down the side, aud a round Scotch or Bucco cap, with peak to match and knob on the top ; he is of low habits, frequenting the corners of streets and low public- houses, and has been in custody as a suspected character; has hitherto been employed in bottling stores. Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department, has authorized the payment of a reward of £ 100 to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the said Peter Camp- bell. Found in a pool in the parish of Holmer, within the , liberties of the city of Hereford, on the 30th ultimo : the body of a female Child, supposed to be from 12 to 15 months 1 old, dark brown hair, and quite naked, except a small white pinafore, with crochet work round the armholes, which was found round its head ; supposed to have been in the water from ten days to a fortnight. A coroner's inquest was held on the 31st ultimo, aud a verdict of ' Wilful murder' returned against some persou or persons unknown. A gold lever Watch, capped, ' Walker Kineton' in a mono- gram inside, ' N. B.' outside, seconds, gold dial and . figures, and black hands. Stolen from the person at Weymouth Races, on the 3rd instant: a plain open dial silver Watch, black figures, and gold hands, maker Cheltenham. Information to be given to Superintendent Batty, Dorchester.— Bow- s'. reet, September 9. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, at St. Leonards, on the 5th instant: a gold Geneva Watch, old- fashioned, engine- turned back, ' F. E.' engraved in centre, enamel face, maker Bautte; a plain gold Albert Chain attached. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Glenister, Town Hall, Hastings, Sussex.— Bow- street, September 9. Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from the person of a lady at Alton Towers, Staffordshire : a lady's small gold Geneva Watch, marked on the back, a small space left for initials, and a scratch on the figure seven. Information to be given to Inspector Hackney, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, Sept. 4. handle and three blades ; a pocket Knife, with black handle and two blades, one of which was broken ; a brown india rubber tobacco Pouch ; and a pair of elastic- side Boots, the right boot patched. Supposed by a tramp, about 30 years of age, about 5 feet G inches high ; dressed in daik clothes, black bowler hat, and the stolen boots, having left an old pair of ace- up's on the premises. Information to be given to Super- intendent Hughes, Holywell, Flintshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 7. Stolen from the person at Ferryhill on the 10th July last: a patent silver lever Watch, No. 89142, maker E. Fryde, Sunderland. By WILLIAM FLOCKHART, alias ROBINSON, 21 years of age, 0 feet 8 IncKco higii, frocli complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair, 1 ittle or no whiskers, slender figure, a coal miner, much given tc drink ; dressed in old dark coat, old dirty dark grey mixture trousers, and dark vest. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunn, Durham County Constabulary, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 2. Description of two men charged with highway robbery with violence, at Cheadle, Staffordshire : DAVID SHAW, alias KINGEY, 5 feet 7 inches high, thin face, sharp nose, light complexion, sandy whiskers, slender build ; dressed in black sammy hat, black cloth coat, and cotton cord trousers ; and HENRY MACE, alias RUT, 5 feet 7£ inches high, full] face, stout build, sandy complexion ; dressed in black cloth coat, woollen cord trousers, and black samjny hat. They are both notorious poachers, and natives of Cheadle, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Sergeant Peake, Cheadle, Staffard- shire^ who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, September 2. FORGERY. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery: JAMES WILLIAM THOMAS, late partner in the firm of Tilley and Thomas, public accountant, Victoria - buildings, Queen Victoria- street : he is about 34 years of age, 6 feet high, brown hair, heavy moustache, little whiskers at sides of face, clean chin, fair complexion, rather high forehead, has rather large feet, and generally wears a ring QU each little finger ; supposed to be now dressed in a tourist suit, and Scotch cap, often carries a stick, aud has with him a gold watch and small curb chain ; he may try to pass cheques, drawn in his own name, on the City Bank, London ; he is supposed to be accompanied by his wife, who is short and fair, with prominent eyes ; and three or four children, the eldest a boy about 7 years of age ; he may probably be in private lodgings at some watering place, his wife being in delicate health. Between 8 a. m. and 6 p. m. on the 7th instant, the dwelling- house of John Baker, of Frindsbury, was broken and entered, and the following property stolen therein : a dark blue double- breasted rough cloth Overcoat, green and red plaid lining, pocket each side with flaps ; a dark blue cloth monkey Jacket; a white felt billycock Hat; a pair of new light lace- up Shoes; a pair of dark mixture cloth Trousers, lined down to the bottom, whole fall fronts ; a silk Neckerchief, mixed colours ; a muffler Handkerchief, blue border ; a silver albert- linked Chain and Key, with stone attached. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Police Office, Chatham, Kent.— Bow- street, Sep- tember 11. Description of HENRY DAVIS, alias JOHN ELLTOTT, alias THE SHAH, charged with breaking into the dwelling- house of John Hinkley, at Rainham, on the 31st nliiiuo, and stealing therein the following articles, part of which have been found pledged at Strood : a black cloth Suit, men's size, nearly new, coat double- breasted, a dark pepper- and- salt- coloured ditto, a tweed ditto, a pair of light Trousers, a black cloth Vest, two pairs of cotton Drawers, an Undershirt, a silk Necktie, a Pocket- handkerchief, a pair of Braces, a pair of elastic- side Shoes, and a Sovereign. He is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, very dark complexion, little or no whiskers, and very black moustache ; dressed iu light trousers, blue guernsey, aud cheesecutter cap ; he is supposed to have been convicted a Woolwich Police Court on the fith January, 1874, for stealing £ 2 10s. from a fellow lodger's box at Eritli. Information to be given to Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent.— Bow- street, September 9. On the 3rd instant, the beerhouse of Samuel Blackhurst, of Pelsall, was burglariously entered by two men, who were disturbed : one tall, with small whiskers and moustache, and dressed in light clothes, with short jacket. The other short and stout, no whiskers, and dressed in dark clothes. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, September 7. Between 4 and 5 am. on the 4th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. William Williams, of West Parade, Rhyl, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : a brown leather Purse, containing about 2s. 6d. in Silver and Copper Monies; a pocket Knife, with buck horn HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Found at Leominster, in the horse fair, on the 4th inst. : and supposed to have been stolen : a brown cart Horse, 3 years old, 15$ hands high, blaze down the face, white fetlocks, long tail, small hoofs, not shod. Information to be given to Superintendent Johnson, Leominster, Herefordshire. — Bow- street, September 11. Stolen on the night of the 5th instant from Bishops Castle, Salop : a light brown gelding Donkey, front of hoofs on fore feet much cracked; and a Bridle, nailed together. Supposed by a youth, about 16 years of age, who travels the country as a chimney sweep, and a man, about 24 years of age, tall and slim, who wore a light slop. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, Salop.— Bono- street, September 9. Found at Wilton, near Marlborough, supposed to have been stolen : a dark iron- grey mare Pony, 2 years off, about 12i hands high, with long maue and tail, and branded with the letter ' D' on the off shoulder. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Stretten, Marlborough, " Wilts.— Bow- street, September 7. Stolen dnriug the month of August last : a chestnut Mare, 2 years old, 14 hands high, white mark on face and hind fetlocks, roiujh mane, tail cut level with hocks.— Mctix- potiian rolicc, X^ WWawu, September 7. Stolen from a fiel- 1 at the parish of Draycott, * near Oxford, on the 23rd ultimo : two down ewe Sheep, the property of Mr. William Latham. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby or Inspector Yates, County Police Station, Oxford.— Bow- rtred, September 2. Stolen from a field at Lawlev Farm, on the night of the 28t'u ultimo, iu the parish of Wellington, iu the county of Salop : a Shropshire down Lamb, the property of James Jones, farmer, which was slaughtered in the stack yard adjoining the field and house, and a part of it roasted in a pit cabin at Lawley. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, " Wellington, Salop. — Bow- street, September 2. Stolen from a field at Tynycoed, in the parish of Dol- gelley, during the night of the 26th ultimo, the property of Mr. Robert Griffiths : a black Pony, with black mane and tail, 10 years old, about 12 hauds high, broken wind, and enlarged belly. Information to be given to Inspector Jones, Police Office, Dolgelley, Merionethshire.— Bow- street, Sept. 2. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded on the 2nd instant, charged with embezzling £ 88, the monies of liis employer : WILLIAM MAIN- WARING FURNIVAL, traveller and bookkeeper, 21 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair, eyes, complexion, whiskers, and moustache, little fiuger of left hand partly cut off, and is a native of Retford, Nottingham- shire ; dressed iu dark clothes and silk hat. Information to be given to Chief Constable Chipstead, Borough Police Office, Wakefield, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, September 11. Description of WILLIAM FIELDING, charged with stealing several articles of Clothing ( recovered at Worthing), from a stable ill which be liad been working in Brighton : about 20 years of age, short and stont, dark complexion and hair, no whiskers, full face; dressed in black ribbed cloth jacket, pockets at sides with flaps, yest of the same material, dark tweed trousers, aud round Oxford hat; is a stableman, and has worked at stables in Edgware- road, Loudon. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, September 11. Description of SAMUEL PRIESTLEY, lately clerk and collector to the " Waterloo and Woodlesford Coal Company, at Leeds, charged upon a warrant with embezzlement: lie is about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slight built, fresh complexion, light brown hair; dress uncertain. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds.— Boio- street, September 11. Stolen from a new building at Henley- on- Thames, on the night of the 3rd instant : a brass- back tenon Saw and a Chisel, marked 1B. Hobbs a smoothing Plane and a Hammer, marked ' W. Shannon ;' and a small Axe. The axe and saw have been found pledged at High Wycombe, by a man about 60 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, grey beard, stoops a little ; dressed in dark coat with slit tip the back, supposed old black trousers, with holes in the knees, and black dudlev hat ; he states that some years ago he worked on the Railway at Slough. Information to be given to Superintendent Coates, Henley- on- Thames, Oxon.— Bow- street, September 9. Q P O L I C E GAZETTE. September 11 Description of a man charged with stealing, in the borough of Cambridge— a dark Overcoat, with curly collar and cuffs ; a pair of elastic- side Shoes ; and some Tools ( the tools have been recovered, but the coat and shoes he is sup- posed to be wearing) : he is about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, brown hair, small light • whiskers and moustache, small pimples on face, walks rather lame, can speak French, and has been a cavalry soldier ; dressed in a short dark coat, mixed vest, light trousers, and black felt hat. Information to be given to Chief Superin- tendent Turrall, Borough Polioe Office, Cambridge.— Bow- st., September !). Absconded from the borough of Ipswich, on the 7th instant, charged with stealing £ 20, consisting of a Cheque for £ 2 10s. on the Eye Bank, in the county of Suffolk, A' 15 in Gold, and £ 2 10s. in Silver, the property of Charles Jere- miah Hammond, grocer, his employer: FREDERICK JOSEPH SEAR, 15 years of age, light complexion, full face, prominent teeth, and small scar under left ear; dressed in a black cloth jacket, dark cloth trousers, light tweed vest, and cheesecutter cap. Information to bo given to Head Constable Mason, Poliee Office, Town Hall, Ipswich, who holds a warrant against him, and by whom a reward of £ 2 will be paid for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 9. Absconded from Cheltenham, on or about the 25th ult., charged with stealing a verge " Watch, with German silver movements : GEORGE F. BARNES, about 18 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, light hair, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in black soft, hat, black cloth coat, with stand- up collar, and dark mixture trousers. He is well educated, and will seek a situation as clerk, he professes to be a quaker, and calls upon persons o£ that persuasion, and asks for assistance. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucester, who holds a warrant for his apprehenion.— Bow- street, September 7. Description of a man charged at Ashton- under Lyne, charged with stealing a Purse, containing 13s. 7d. in Cash, from a shop in the market on the 22nd ultimo : he is about 34 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout make, fresh com- plexion, and dark brown hair ; dressed in a round white moleskin jacket and trousers, worsted cap with peak, and strong boots ; he is a labourer or navvy, and has also been an assistant in the vault of a public- house. Also description of a man, charged with stealing a Purse, containing £ 2 in Gold, and two gold Rings, from the person of a female in Ashton, on the 19th February last: he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender make, fresh complexion, large nose, dark brown hair, no whiskers ; dressed in a short blue linsey slop, cord trousers, old black billycock hat, and strong boots or clogs ; he is an out- door labourer or navvy, and a native of Cheshire. Information to be given to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, Ashton- under- Lyne, Lancashire.— Bow- street, September 7. Absconded from Southend on the 31st ultimo, stealing .£ 22, the property of Robert Northmore, his father : HENRY NORTHMORE, 12 years of age, tall for his age, fair com- plexion, light hair, cut very short, and scar on forehead ; dressed in dark tweed jacket and vest, and cord trousers. He took with him another suit of his own clothing of Bimilar material; is supposed to be accompanied by another boy, 14 years of age, and very light complexion ; dressed in greycoat and vest, dark trousers, and black cap. Description of HENRY REED, a tramping watch and clock maker, charged with larceny, and for whose apprehen- sion a warrant is issued : 26 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, pale complexion, dark hair and whiskers, walks lame, one leg being shorter than the other, and has a dent in his forehead ; dressed in dark clothes. Information to be given to Head Constable Songhurst, Barnstaple, Devonshire.— Bow- ttreet, September 7. Stolen from a house in Berwick- on- Tweed, about the 15th ultimo : a silver Medal, with ' Ralph Laidlam' on one side, and ' Lucknow' on the other side ; and two silver Clasps. By a man who said he came from Edinburgh, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout make, rather red hair and moustache, full face, he has been a soldier, and was in the Northumberland Artillery Militia, but was discharged, being subject to fits ; supposed to have gone South. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Garden, Berwick- on- Tweed,— Bow- street, September 7. Description of FREDERICK BACON, charged with stealing from a dwelling- house at Cockthorpe, Norfolk, on the 26th ultimo, two Sovereigns and two Florins, the pro- perty of William Ainger : about 19 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, rather small features, slight built, dark brown hair and eyes, no whiskers, scar from a cut inside right wrist, nearly two inches long ; dressed in an old black cloth coat, pockets outside, tight fittiug worsted cord trousers, mended at the knees, the material is new at at the bottom of the legs inside, black and white mixture waistcoat, mixed coloured striped linen shirt, light coloured necktie, old brown chummy hat, and lace- up boots. He was formerly employed with some steam roundabouts, and will probably be found attending fairs, & c. Information to be given to Superintendent Murrell, Walsingham, Norfolk, • who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 4. Absconded from Foulsham, charged with stealing two Chiekens, the property of Thomas Groom, of Foulsham, on the 27th ultimo : JAMES WYATT, 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, grey eyes, sandy hair, and florid complexion, one upper tooth out in front ; dressed in mixed cloth trousers, with stripes down the sides, old black billycock bat, torn in front, and lace- up boots ; a native of East Dereham, Norfolk. Information to be given to Inspector Sewter, Constabulary Station, Rcepham, Norfolk.— Bow- street, September 4. Absconded from the borough of Dudley on the 21st ult. : JAMES BATE, charged on a warrant with having stolen on the 18th ultimo : two Bags, and 210 lbs. of Nails : he is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate made, grey eyes, by trade a labourer, and formerly was a member of the Manchester Police For' 1". Information to be given to Chief Superintendent BurtoE, Borough Police Office, Dudley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, September 4. Stolen on the morning of the 3rd instant, from the dwelling- honse of Arthur James Baker, St. Alban's : a silver Geneva Watch. By a man, 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, sandy whiskers and moustache; dressed in datk clothes and black deerstalker hat; he was traced on the road to Dunstable. Information to be given to Superintendent Pike, St, Alton's, Hexfa— Bovbttreet, September 4, Stolen on the 31st ultimo, from the cottage of William Howes, labourer, of Coin St. Aldwyns : £ 1 7s. in Money, a green Necktie, and a white Pocket- handkerchief. By a man, an engine- fitter, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and moustache, no whiskers, and has a mark of cut over the left eye; dressed in a blue cloth jacket, bound with braid, much worn, the threads showing up the back, dark mixture vest aud trousers, elastic- side boots with buttons up the fronts, and bowler hat; supposed to be from the neighbourhood of New Cross, London, where he has a friend now residing. Information to be given to Superintendent Wocd, Constabulary Office, Cirencester, or to Sergeant Masou, Police Station, Fairford, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 4. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). On the night of the 2nd instant, the parish church of Oldswinford, was entered, and the Communion Cloth stolen therein, it is of the following description : marone coloured silk velvet, 9 feet 6 inches long, by 4 feet 6 inches wide, with the letters ' I. H. S.' worked with marone and white coloured silk in centre. Information to be given to Superintendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire. — Bow- street, Sept. 9. Description of JAMES SHEPHERD, who absconded from the Trench, Salop, on the 2Gth ultimo, charged with committing a rape at the pariah of Eyton, Salop, on the 19th ultimo : about 20 years of age, 5 feet C or 7 iuches high, dark hair and complexion, very little or no whiskers ; dressed in black or pilot monkey jacket, corduroy trousers, moleskin vest, and jimcrow hat; he is a puddler, and a native of the Trench, and was last seen at Wolverhampton, assisting boat- men up the locks. Information to be given to Chief Super-, intendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Merricks, Oakengates, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, September 7. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS.
