Absconded from Portsmouth, charged with man- slaughter: JOHN KINCHLEA, about 60 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, dark hair, eyes, whiskers, and complexion, large mouth, and has lost third linger on right hand ; dressed in blue cloth monkey jacket, cord trousers, round crowned black felt hat, lace- up boots, tipped and nailed, and black silk neckerchief. He is a native of Ireland, and speaks with Irish accent. Information to be given to Head Constable Barber, Portsmouth, Hants, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 17. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of ELIJAH GOSS, late of Whitechapel, London, charged with stealing eleven Cows and Heifers, of the value of £ 250, from a field at Bitton, in the county of Gloucester, on the night of the 10th instant, the property of Mr. John Caple, farmer : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slender make, dark hair, no whiskers or moustache, nose rather hooked, and bow- legged ; is well known to all dealers and cattle drovers round London. £ 2 reward will be paid for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, near Bristol. — Bow- street, August 21. Stolen from a field near Burslem, Staffordshire, on the 6th instant: a light grey Colt, 2 years old, 13£ hands high, white star on forehead. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the horse. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Longden, Police Office, Burslem, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Auqust 21. Stolen from a field at the Mumbles, near Swansea, on the night of the 4th instant, a brown Mare, aged, from 14 to 15 hands high, long switch tail, small lump on her back, and marks of collar galls on the shoulders. Information to be given to Superintendent Howlett, Neath, or to Sergeant Baker, Mumbles, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, August 19. Stolen on the 11th or 12th instant, from a stable in Wharf- yard, Canning Town, West Ham : a black Mare, 6 years old, 15 hands high, mark on near side from a kick, in good condition ; also an old Saddle with no girth. By a man 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, full face, long nose, sandy beard and whiskers ; dressed in grey jacket, dark trousers, and billycock hat; had the appearance of a groom .— Metropolitan Police, K Division, August 19. An inquest was held on the 13th instant, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' returned against some person or persons unknown; the body was wrapped in part of an old shirt, and appeared to have been in the water more than a month. Information to be given to Superintendent Hedger, Berks Constabulary, Abingdon.— Bow- street, August 17. ROBBERY AND LAECE1Y FROM THE PERSON. On the 7th instant, Anne Braithwaite, domestic servant with Mr. Stanley, of Sibthorpe, was stopped on the highway, near Eastburn, in the parish of Kirkburn, by two men, and robbed of Five Shillings. Information to be given to Super- intendent Harper, East Biding Constabulary, Bainton Beacon.— Bow- street, August 21. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the 14th instant, the dwelling- house of Chas. Jerom, of Risely Common, was entered, and the following money and articles stolen therein : eight Sovereigns, four Half- sovereigns, a pair of black cloth Trousers, and a woollen Shawl. A man of the following description is suspected : 36 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion, hazel eyes ; dressed in a suit of dark clothes and cap with peak. Information to be given to Superintendent Crook, Berks Constabulary Station, Reading.— Bow- street, August 21. Description of a youth charged with housebreaking at Selby, and stealing £ 4 in Gold, some Silver, and an old silver verge Watch, with some shoemaker's wax packed inside the back case to make it fit tight, and had attached a long brass Chain, snake pattern : 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, fresh complexion, brown hair, slight and smart build, walks very fast, generally carries a cane, and is a basket maker ; dressed in dark grey suit, or may be wearing a dark cloth coat and billycock hat; supposed to be in London with some circus or theatre. Information to be given to Superintendent Ireland, West Biding Constabulary, Selby.— Bow- street, August 21. Stolen from the person at Lewes Races on the 7th and 8th instant: A gold repeater open- face Watch, makers Rossell, Bentbe, and Co., Geneva, No. 76754, enamel dial, gold case, with ' Balancier Compensee' engraved inside of it, and ' Frans et Conterpivots en Rubies,' and ' H. K.' engraved on the back. A gold Repeater Watch, white face, seconds hands, maker Motter, Geneva, on back 1 Examined by Dent.' A gold Watch, and an Ashantee gold Chain with Seal and Key for drawers ( watch key on the end), A gold Watch, maker Grove, Wigmore- street. A pair of Field Glasses, black leather, with ' 12 mile distance' in gold letters stamped on case. Bristol : a very dark brown horse Pony, about 12 hands high, about 9 years old, with long mane and tail, white star on forehead, peculiar hind feet, which are very small, similar to donkey's feet, very stout, low and wide across the back, with indentations on each side caused by the use of a narrow saddle, is very deep in the neck, and in very good condition ; a low two- wheeled Basket Trap, with springs inside, wheels painted brown with a small red stripe, and new bonds have been recently put on them, one of the shafts has been broken and recently repaired ; also an old set of Harness, silver- mounted. By a woman about 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, slight build, pale complexion, and light hair ; dressed in a drab tight- fitting dress, white hat, and black fall; she stated that she was in the service of the Rev. Mr. Blackburne, Long Ashton, Somerset, who had sent her to hire the pony and trap while his carriage was undergoing repairs, which has since been found to be false. £ 10 reward will be paid as follows : £ 5 for the conviction of the offender, and £ 5 on the recovery of the pony, trap, and harness, on application to Mrs. Burland, as above. Information to be Embleton, the property of Mr. John Armstrong : one shear* ling half- bred Leicester and Aerdwick Sheep, marked with the letter ' A' in tar on near side. Aloo, a three- parts breed Leicester Lamb, marked with the letter ' A' in tar on near side and red mark on back. Information to be given t » Superintendent Spencer, Cockermouth, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, Auqust 17. Further information and description of the Mare, advertised in the P dice Gazette of the 7th instant, as stolen from Tilehurst : the mare has a mark of a cut underneath the mane, about 6 inches from the ears. £ 5 reward will be given on the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the mare. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Crook, Berks Constabulary Station, Reading.— Bow street, August 17. Stolen from a field in the parish of Normanby- by- Spital, during the night of the 5th instant, the property of Mr. J. B. Peinstan, farmer : a brown Cob Horse, aged, about 14 bauds high, white saddle marks on back and tender from pressure of saddle, large scar on off inside leg, and tail cut square and short. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, County Police Station, Lincoln, or to Sergeant Wilson, Normanby, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, August 14. Stolen on the 9th instant, from a field in the parish of Osmaston, Derby : a light brown Mare, 4 years old, 15 hands 3 inches high, white star on forehead, capped and fired on both hocks, a kick mark still sore on off foreleg below knee, and off hind- hoof partly white; the property of William Winfield, Derby. £ 5 reward will be paid an recovery of the animal and conviction of the offender or offenders. Informa- tion to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, Litchuroh, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, Auqust 14. Stolen from a field in the parish of Llaj^ pBter, on the 2nd or 3rd instant : two cross- bred Lambs, one a dark faced wether, the other a tanned faced ewe, both marked with raddle dot on the shoulder. £ 3 reward will be paid for information that will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Constable Wheeldon, Penybont, Radnorshire.— Bow- street, August 12. LAECENY AS D EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Exeter, on the 5th instant : HENRY LAKE, charged on a warrant with embezzling various sums of Money, belonging to his employer. He is about 26 years of age, 5 feet 6| or 7 inches high, very fresh complexion, dark hair, moustache, no whiskers, bow- legged, and stoops in walking. Information to be given to Chief Constable Bent, Exeter.— Bow- street, Auqust 21. Stolen on the 17th instant, in the parish of Andover, the property of Frank Hayler : a black Coat, nearly new, with three outside pockets. By two men who slept in the house on the previous night; one about 50 years of age, long beard and moustache, turning grey ; dressed in dark clothes, and black felt hat. The other about 21 years of age, dark mous- tache, and no whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes, and cap with brass button on each side of peak. Stolen on the 11th instant, from Fordcombe, Penshurst, Kent, the property of Mr. Oliver, butcher : two Kent Ewes, blue or violet, and on face of Watch black; a small lady's Geneva silver Watch and long silver Chain, supposed No. of Watch 1607; the top spring of case broken, and glass very much scratched. By a lad 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, light brown hair, and fair complexion ; dressed in dark marked ' 0.' in red ochre on the rump; supposed to have pilot jacket, brown trousers with dark stripes, and cheesecutter cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Police Station, Slough, Bucks.— Bow- street, August 21. been taken away in a drove of sheep. Information to be given to Superintendent Dance, Police Court, Tollbridge, Kent.— Bow- street, August 17. Description of a Horse and dog Cart, found in the possession of three men in custody at Carlisle, and is supposed to be stolen: a dark brown horse Pony, aged, about 14i hands high, white saddle marks on back, and bridle marks behind the ears, splintered in both fore legs ; a dark green painted dog Cart, picked out with light green, with drab cushions and j Monmouthshire, where he is supposed to have gone, back ; also a set of half- worn silver- plated Harness. The mation to be niven to Chief Constable Jackson. ! Description of RICHARD JONES, charged with steal- ing £ 13, the money of the Sheffield Tramway Company : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark com- plexion, eyes, hair, and moustache, lost two front upper teeth, and is generally well dressed; has been a ' bus con- ductor, and has relatives of the same name residing in Infor- given Jackson, Sheffield, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Boic- st., Aug. 21. Stolen on the 18th inat., from a farm house at Wichnor Bridges, near Burton- on- Trent: an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, a little cracked at the bottom of the dial, maker William Burton, Loudon, and has ' T. C.' engraved on back; a Germau silver Watch, glass broken ; a leather Purse, with steel clasp, containing a Sovereign, two Florins, three Shillings, and a Sixpence ; and a pepper- and- salt coloured Jacket and Waistcoat. By a man, 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, no whiskers or moustache, aud apparently half- witted ; dressed in black hard felt hat, dark pilot jacket and trousers, and lace- up boots, much worn down at the heels. Information to be given to Superintendent Bowen, Police Office, Burton- on- Trent, Staffordshire. Bow- street, August 21. Stolen from the Star Hotel, Maidstone, between the 17th and 18th instant; a silver Geneva Watch, engraved on back ' E. B.,' plain silk Guard attached ; a pair of brown cloth Trousers, nearly new ; and a valuable meerschaum Pipe ; the pipe has been recovered, having been sold to the billiard Stolen between the 6th and 10th instant, from a field at! marker for 10s. By a man of the following description, who men travel the country with what they call wrecked drapery goods : the first having printed cards with ' Capt. Walkerley' on them, which he hands on calling at houses, states his name is THOMAS WALKERLEY, and is a native of Exeter, Devon; WALTER COSTELLO, a native of Yorkshire, hawker ; and THOMAS MILLET, a native of Ireland, but who has lived some time in Wales. They are accompanied by Joseph Walkerley, brother of the first named, and three women, who they state are their wives ; they are remanded until the 24tli instant. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hemingway, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, August 17. Stolen since the 25th ultimo : a mare Pony, 13| hands high, aged, brown, with white star on forehead, one hind fet- lock white, cropped tail, and in good condition. It was seen in the possession of some gipsies, at Onibury, on the 10th instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Stretton, or to Serjeant Lear, Bromfield, Salop. - Bow- street, Auqust 17. 2 POLICE GAZETTE. August 21 occupied No. 4 bedroom at the hotel on the night of the 17th instant: 25 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 iuches high, very dark complexion, dark wavy hair, and long black moustache, supposed to be false : dressed in a dark suit, brown hard felt hat, very greasy, elastic- side boots, and had a wedding ring and keeper on the little linger of left hand ; had with him a black leather bag and brown paper parcel, and represents himself as a commercial traveller. Information to be given to Head Constable Gifford, Maidstone, Kent.— Bow- street, August 21. Further information respecting MICHL. McMANUS, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 7th instant, charged with stealing £ 700, the monies of the Corporation of Black- burn : he is 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, propor- tionate make, oval face, thin nose, small eyes, grey hair, probably dyed black, thin black whiskers, and no beard or moustache ; dressed in a black surtout csat, light cloth trousers and vest, and black silk hat ; of respectable appear- ance, and a native of Hoghton, near | 61ackburn. He . will probably endeavour to go to America or the Continent. He has, under the name of J. Railton and Co., carried on the business of engineers, and^ supplied engines for Rotterdam, Holland, and Germauy. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— By- street, August 21. Description of HOPKINS J. DAVIES, late dispenser of medicine to the Northampton General Infirmary, who hasi absconded, a ® d for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charging him with stealing a quantity of Quinine, value about £ 6, the property of the Governors of the said Institution, on the 13th instant : about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, dark curly hair, whiskers, and moustaehe, and small piercing eyes ; dressed in a brown billycock hat, and brown mixture suit. Was previously employed at the General Hospital, Birmingham, is a native of Wales, well known at Cardiff, and has a son in the Liver- pool Farm Reformatory School, Liverpool. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Northampton,— Bow- street, August 21. Description of THOMAS GEORGE PRICE, who absconded from Merevale, in the county of Leicester, on the 21st ultimo, charged with embezzling several sums of Money, belonging to Mr. John Kilburn, his master : he is an agricul- tural labourer, lately employed aa farm bailiff, 30 years of age, 5 feet D or 10 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair ( cut short) and whiskers ( round his face), small blue eyes, rather long face, mole on right cheek, tooth out right side of upper jaw, and slim build ; a native of Presteign, Radnor- shire ; dressed in a grey tweed jacket and waistcoat, tweed trousers with black stripe down sides, all much worn, and watertight lace- up boots ; carried a small black bag. He is wtell known to the police in Radnorshire and Monmouthshire, information to be given to Superintendent Moore, Constabu- 1 kty Station, Hinckley, Leicestershire, who holds the warrant foT his apprehension,— Bcno- street, August 19. Description of ISAAC BADILY, a labourer, charged at Barnsley with larceny on the 25th ultimo, and for whose ajpr; hension a warrant has been issued: he is 19 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark brown hair; dressed in an old black cloth braided coat, grey cloth trousers, orange striped waistcoat, hard billycock hat, black necktie, and light lace- up boots ; born at Everdon, near Weedon, and resided last in Applewell, near Barnsley. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Sykes, West Riding Constabulary, Barnsley.— Bow- street, August 19. Absconded from Tow Law, on the 1st instant, charged with embezzling various sums of Money belonging to the North Eastern Railway Company : ALFRED PAWSON DELICATE, late booking clerk at Tow Law Railway Station, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet inches high, fresh complexion, proportionate figure, dark brown eyes, light brown hair, cut short, lieht brown moustache, which he dyes dark brown, small face, dimple on chin, low narrow forehead, sharp nose, no whiskers, very smart figure, scar oa left leg, below the knee, teeth irregular in front, forward manners, walks erect, and steps short, states he lias been a soldier, and is ft native of Ripon ; dressed in light trousers with a blue stripe, light vest, short dark brown coat, black silk hat, low lace- up boots, and has a gold albert, but no watch ; he is very fond of horse racing, & c., is fond of smoking and drinking, and fond of singing in public- houses. Information to be given to Superintendent Thubron, Durham County Constabulary, Stanhope, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Boio- street, August 19. Description of JOHN TIMMS, a labourer, charged with stealing a Watch ( recovered) on the 31st ultimo, at Faringdon : 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow com- plexion,- brown hair, and no whiskers ; dressed in blue pilot cloth monkey jacket, very much faded, dark trousers, red scarf tied loosely round the neck, and a blue cloth engineer's cap ; and is lame from the left hip. Information to be given to Superintendent Reece, Faringdon, Berks, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 17. Absconded from the parish of Ruabon, Denbighshire, on the 14th instant, having drawn by cheque, at Oswestry, the sum of .£ 165 in gold and silver to pay wages for his employer : WALTER ORMEROD, medical assistant, 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, beard, and moustache, unshaven, good- looking, cast in right eye, right arm marked with two flags ( union and another), and anchor, dark hair on body, particularly upright in carriage, especially in walking, soft voice, and speaks quietly ; dressed in dark merino under vest, white long cloth shirt, marked ' Ormerod,' lavender worsted socks, light trousers, tight in legs, black cloth waist- coat, narrow black silk necktie, black frock coat, white pocket handkerchief, marked ' W. Ormerod,' gold stud to fasten shirt collar, white cornelian stone set in gold ring, with fleur- de- lis carved, new elastic- side boots, small buttons down one side, and snuff- brown overcoat, name in loop, ' Ormerod,' stitched outside. A handsome reward will be paid by his employer to any person who will give such information as shall lead to his apprehension and the recovery of the money or any portion thereof, on application to Deputy Chief Constable Bradshaw, Wrexham, Denbighshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, August 17. Description of HARRY DENTON, charged at Brighton with embezzling money belonging to his late employer : he is a stableman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, eandy whiskers, hazel eyes, slight build ; dressed in a long brown coat and round brown hat. Also, description of FREDERICK WALKER, shopman and traveller to a tailor, charged upon a warrant at Brighton with embezzling various snms of money belonging to his late employer : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, very little whiskers, proportionately made, anil has a rather peculiar look about his eyes. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- street, August 14. A man is charged at Aldershot, with stealing on the 9th instant, the following Articles : a blue reefer Jacket, black lining sewn in shape of diamonds with blue cotton, pockets on hips, one inside and one ou'tside left breast pocket, two buttons at each wrist ; a black pilot cloth monkey Jacket; a pair of white moleskin Trousers ; a flannel under Shirt; a purple- coloured flannel Shirt; a pepper- and- salt Vest, no collar ; and two cotton Pocket- handkerchiefs. He is about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, very full face, brown hair, sandy whiskers all round chin, upper part of chin and jaws shaved, rough voice, and frequents beer- shops ; dressed in an engineer's slop, dirty and worn, cord trousers, long moleskin vest, horse cloth lining, large white buttons, back six inches longer than front, tight fitting rough cap, flaps tied with strings, very heavy navvy boots, cracked or cut at toes. He is an excavator, lately employed on the London and South Western Railway, at Farnborough, has worked in a market garden at Brentford, and is a native of Gallowstree- common, Caversham, Oxford. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, Hants Constabulary, County Police Station, Aldershot.— Bow- street, August 14. FELONIES. ( Not otherwise described). Absconded from Flint on the 27th ultimo, charged with Rape : PATRICK MAUGHAN, 22 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout make, light brown hair, fresh com- plexion, little or no whiskers of moustache ; has been working in chemical, paper- mills, and other works. Was last heard of in HoyWood, Lancashire. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, Mold, or to Sergeant Ward, Flint, North Wales.— Bow- street, August 21. Found in the possession of WILLIAM FLETCHER, a tramp, who is remanded till the 21st instant: a brown leather Satchel, one pocket inside, and one outside, lined with red morocco, the lock broken off, and strap missing, otherwise in good condition, and is supposed to have been stolen during the races at Epson : Fletcher is about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, blue eyes, sallow complexion, lost two front teeth in upper jaw, second finger on right hand bent inwards; dressed in long grey coat, cord trousers, soft billycock hat. Description of EDWARD HUGHES, a person subject to police supervision, who has failed to report himself at the Police Office, Wigan : 17 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, light brown hair, parted down centre and worn rather long, very feminine appearance, pockmarked about light eye, ears pierced, mole on throat, third right finger- nail deformed, has a cast in his eyes, and is fond of dressing in female attire. He was convicted of larceny at Kirkdale Quarter Sessions, October 29, 1872, and sentenced to 9 months imprisonment and 7 years police supervision. Description of JOHN STAFFORD, charged under the Prevention of Crimes Act, for changing his residence without reporting his intention so to do, on the 27th June last : he is 51 years of age, 5 feet inches high, brown hair, weak eyes, near sighted, and ' T. S.' on left arn-. Convicted at Oakham Assizes, 28th February, 1872, and sentenced to 6 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision. Description of SAMUEL SMITH, under police super- vision for seven years, who was dischaiged from Oakham County Gaol on the 24th June last, stating he was going to Northampton, but who has failed to report himself at the Borough Police Station there, as required by the Act: he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair, two warts on thumb and one on little finger of left hand, very weak eyes, and dimple on chin.
