ENGLISH POLICE. WHEHSAS Michael M'Manus until recently held the appointment of borough treasurer for the borough of Blackburn, and, while holding such appointment, did steal the sum of £ 700, the property of the Cor- poration, a Warrant, charging him with tho offence, has this day been issued for his arrest:— 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, proportionate make, oval face, thin nose, small eyes, hair gray but may be dyed black, black thin set whiskers round sides of faco, no board or moustache; drosses in black surtout coat, light cloth trowsers and vest, black silk hat; respectable appearance} he may bo able to dress in female attire; he is a native of Hoghton, near Black- burn ; he probably will endeavour to emigrate to Amorica or some other country. Police officers are earnestly requested to diligently search for him, and, if possible, effect his arrest, es- pecially Police officers of seaports to search out- sailing vessels, assisted by the photographs which have been forwarded for their use. l Information to be given to JOSEPH POTTS, Chief Constable. WANTED, in this borough, on a charge of embezzle- ment of various sums of money, belonging to his late employer", the North- Eastern Bailway Company— Thomas Siddall, a railway goods clerk, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fair com- plexion, thin face, sharp nose, brown hair, little light whiskers on sides of face, shaved chin end; slender figure, turns foet out when walking; is a native of Stanhope, in the co. of Durham; dressed in a darkish plaid mixed suit, elastic- sided boots, and black Billycock hat. Absconded from here on the 4th instant. Frequents billiard- rooms, and a likely person to apply for a situation as a billiard- marker or clerk. If found, to be apprehended, and informa- tion to be given to tho undersigned, who holds a Warrant for his arrest and will pay all expenses. EDWARD J. SAGGERSON, Chief Constable. Borough Police Office, Middlesbrough, August 5, 1874. SCOTTISH POLICE. an old offender, and the gentlemen he imposes upon are naval officers. He writes representing himself to be an old messmate in temporary difficulties, and asking the loan of £ 7, £ 8, £ 10. He addresses his let'ers from some rural place where there is a post- office, and then either calls at the post- office for the letter expected in answer or writes to the postmaster requesting him to forward his letters to some other post- office. Sometimes he addresses his letters from some towns, such as Belfast and Hawick; and when that has been the case, he has stated that he had been getting so much of the money as he required to relieve him of his difficulties, and that he was just on his way home meaning the rural place he had chosen for the address. There has nover been more than one correspondent to the same place, four of which he has had in Dumfriesshire. He has taken the names of J. B. Nicolson, James Stephen, J. Little and Horace H. Smith. The police are requested to make particular search and inquiry for the above- described person, and if found to apprehend and detain, andcommunicate with the Chief Constable of Dumfriesshire, at Dumfries. They are also requested to call at all rural post- offices, and on naval officers, whether at present serving or retired from serving in Her Majesty's Navy, in their respective districts, and leave particulars of the case, so that immediate information may be received of his whereabouts, should he make any further attempt at fraud, which he is sure to do. Dumfries, August 7, 1874. WANTED, on a Sheriff's Warrant, for embezzlement of £ 35— Hugh Sherry, a spirit merchant's traveller, from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stout made, pockmarked, has a large head, Dun- dreary whiskers, no moustache or beard ; dressed in a blue frock coat, gray tweed vest and trowsers, and satin hat; wears an eyeglass. Absconded a week ago. Was previously a traveller in England. Will endeavour to obtain a similar situation. Please make inquiry, and, if found, apprehend, and communicate with A. M'Call, Chief Constable. WANTED, on a charge of falsehood, fruad and wilful imposition, by obtaining £ 60 under false pretences, at Castle- Douglas, on the 21st July, 1874— Matthew Arthur, about 30 years of age, 6 feet 10 inches in height, brown hair, no beard or whiskers, fresh ruddy complexion, stout made ; one of his legs is a little stiff when walking, caused by the bones of his foot having been fractured; dressed generally in a brown tweed suit, black wide- awake hat, white waterproof overcoat. He is a horse- dealer, a native of Ayrshire, and lived for many years at Fen- wick, in that county, but has absconded, and the last trace of him is in Glasgow, shortly after the above crime was committed; if he has not yet left the country, it is supposed that he will leave it; he is well known to the principal horse- dealers in Scotland, north of England and Ireland. Police officers are requested to search for the said Matthew Arthur, and if found, apprehend and detain, and communicate with the Chief- Constable at Kirk- cudbright, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. County Buildings, Kirkcudbright, August 12, 1874. - WANTED at Dumfries, on a charge of fraud, a ^ k^- on of the following description, viz.:— About Vk Jars of age, about 6 feet 7 or 8 inches high, full reR face, small fairish whiskers, walks erect, and has a gentlemanly appearance; dressed when last seen in a light gray suit, black felt hat, and carried » small black bag or portmanteau. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, on the night of the 2Srd July, 1874, Thomas Fleming and Alice Fleming, his wife, were both brutally murdered at Curraghmore, near Mitchelstown, in the county of Cork: His Grace the Duke of Abercorn, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of Down. Ard, at Carnalway:— 1. Thomas Doran— Flatfeet; gray eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, sun burnt face, slight make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, very light short hair ; wore a black jerry hat, gray tweed coat, dark cord trowsers, gray tweed vest, militia boots— 74. 2. Timothy Kelly— Blue eyes, regular nrse, pale complexion, round face, stout make, 4 feet 8 inches high, about 16 years of age, short brown hair; wore a black and white chip hat, dark frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vest, laced boots. D. :— Slightly drooped shoulders, stoops his head a little when walking; gray penetrating eyes, thin drooped nose, fresh complexion, thin face, average make, 5 feet 9 inches higb, 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a bluo and light tweed coat, tweod trowsers, dark vest; overcoat like those worn by patients in an asylum, but cut short; cotton drawtrs with letters M. ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information to the Resident Magistrate or Constabulary as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons who com- mitted the same. By His Grace's Command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by Richard J. Eaton, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Mitchelstown, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of a donkey's cart, the property of Edward Hegarty, which was stolen from the lands of Ballykerwick, parish of Donaghmore, bareny of East Muskerry, on the 6th day of August, 1874:— Body painted red and nearly new, bound all round ; with iron axle, has been in use before and belonged to a covered car, has a nail at either end for a linch- pin ; is the breadth of an ordinary horse cart, the hind setlnck is of iron, there is no name on the cart. DESCRIPTION of Hugh Daniel Begley, native of Knocknague, county Cork, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of August, 1874, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Kilmeen, dangerously assaulted Daniel C. Buckley :— Mark of a fresh cut on upper lip and chin; large nose, common face, stout make, 6 feet high, ahout 25 years of age, fair hair, no whiskers; wore a jerry hat, black frock coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest, strong laced boots. He has been in America before, and will try to emigrate. Kanturk, August 10, 1874. ( 2898 o.— 5455.) DESCRIPTION of John or James Mullane, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of July, 1874, in the barony of Fermoy, parish of Imphrick, hit James Fisher and knocked him down, thereby causing his death:— Blue eyes, rather cocked nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 6 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, sandy hair. DESCRIPTION of the under- named young offender, who, on the 11 th of August, 1874, absconded from the Rehoboth- place Reformatory School at Dublin :— John Magee ( No. 104), 17 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pretty stout make, sallow complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, looks downward, large nose, round visage, an old cut between left eye and ear; formerly belonged to Carlowgraigue, Carlow, where his parents reside. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of— light cord trowsers, light cord vest with calico sleeves, blay calico shirt, blue cloth cap, Blucher boots. This boy may make for some backward part of the country, or probably may enlist. He also absconded on lOtli July last, and was found at Carlow, on 16th of same month. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. Office of Inspector of Reformatory and Industrial Schools, Dublin Castle, 18th August, 1874. DESCRIPTION of Patrick May ( No. 2276), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not reporting himself to the Police on change of residence:— Convioted at Dublin, at June Commission, on 18th June, 1870, for larceny from the person, and sen- tenced to 5 years' penal servitude; 22 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Protestant, single; is a sailor; born at Northumberland- street, Dublin ; resided before conviction in Commons- street: his friends reside in Leeds, England; dark brown hair, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, ordinary nose ( left side corroded from the effects of a sore), ordinary mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage; cut- mark on right cheek, a brown mole on left temple, a large sore- mark on right arm extending from wrist to elbow ; stout make, 5 feet ' 6 inches high. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on 10th June, 1874, on an order of licence. It appears by a report from the Dublin Metropolitan Police, that this convict did not report himself since the 11th June, 1874, nor did he notify to them his change of reeidence. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under the 5 th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871, 84 and 35 " Vic., cap. 112. Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, August 10, 1874. Thomas Flood, ( No. 2277), described in last Hue- and- Cry, has been arrested. Convict Charles Howard, ( No. 2,268,) who has broken the conditions of his licence in omitting to report himself to tho Dublin Metropolitan Police on change of residence, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, lfith June, 1874. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with nnder the 6th section of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871, 34 and 35 Vic., chap. 112.
