Notice.— It is requested that al communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature ot the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. C. * » * Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is gives, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor fori nsertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letter* addressed to the Editor mast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the names and Descriptions of Deserter. and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 28th ultimo, the dead body of a male Child, about 10 days old, was found behind the door of the 2nd class ladies' waiting room, Rochdale Railway StatioD. An inquest was held the same day, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' returned by the jury against some person, or persons unknown. The body, winch was wrapped in two sheets of coarse brown paper, was left in the place named about 6 o'clock in the morning. The offender was iu possession of a monthly trip ticket from Huddersfield to Southport, and arrived in Manchester from Southport about 9 p. m. on the 27th ultimo ; she obtained lodgings at a temperance hotel near the Victoria Statiou, and proceeded by 5 a. m. train next j day to Huddersfield, via Rochdale, where the parcel was left as described; she stated at Manchester that her home was 1 three miles from Huddersfield, supposed Lindley. She is 1 about 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark auburn hair, thin, pale, hollow cheeks, hazel eyes, dark underneath eyes, slender figure, and is a tobacco smoker; dressed in dark coloured bonnet, black cloth jacket, and stuff dress, colour between brown and yellow, with light brown silk stripes running down the skirt. Information to be given to Chief Constable Stevens, Rochdale, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 3. faded, inside is lined with blue leather, one of the pockets torn, the clasp defective, has a leather handle, and a key attached to a ring with a pink and white string, had a brown morocco leather Purse in it, with black elastic band, also several Invoices, one from Falkner, Brothers, Dale- street, Manchester, one from Roylance & Sons, Manchester, one from Worthington's, Church- street, Manchester, and one from Hall's, Shudehill, Manchester ; also several patterns of Dress Material. Two young men of the following description are suspected : one about 20 years of age, rather tall and slender, sallow looking, either marked with smallpox or fawn freckled; dressed in a dark cloth swinger coat, trousers, and vest, black cloth cap, with leather peak ; the other rather lower iu stature, about 18 or 19 years of age ; dressed in dark clothes, and cloth cap with peak ; both have the appearance of factory operatives. Information to be given to Chief Constable Dalgliesh, Ashton - under - Lyne, Lancashire. — Bow- street. August 7. Burglariously stolen from Woodland House, Bathwick Hill, on the 31st ultimo : a Teapot, two Cream Jugs, a Coffee Pot, a Soup Ladle, two Gravy Spoons, a Fish Slice, a Butter Knife, a Mustard Pot and Spoon, five. Dessert Spoons, four Dessert Forks, eight Tea Spoons, two Sugar Sifters ( one no crest) a pair of Sugar Tongs, sixteen large Spoons ( four no crest), and twenty large Forks ( four no crest)— all silver, eugraved with crest— an eagle on a crown, with a branch; six silver Toddy Ladles, marked ' S.;' a silver Sauce Ladle, no mark; and two plated Egg Spoons. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Bath, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, August 5. On the 29th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Susan Atkins, of Ashchurch. was broken and entered, and 16s. iu Money and six small silver Tea Spoons, marked ' S. M.', stolen therein. Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, or to Sergeant Whitman, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, August 3. On the night of the 30th ultimo, the dwelliDg- house of Mr. Geo. Daft, farmer, Hallaughton, was burglariously entered, and three silver Cups of the following description stolen therein : a Pint Cup, with two handles, inscription ' Presented to George Daft, by W. H. Barrow,- M. P., for the best collection of poultry, at Southwell'; a Pint Cup, with two handles, inscription ' Presented to George Daft, for the second- best collection of poultry, at Nottingham'; a Pint Cup, without handles, inscription ' Presented to George Daft, junr,, for the best ploughman, 1872, at Southwell." Information to be given to Inspector Earp, Southwell, Notts. — Bow- street, A ugust 3. the drag has red wheels and shafts, plain body painted dark blue, light blue cushions, two small ones in front, one large one on the back, and one side of the drag has the paint rubbed off, caused by the wheel rubbing against it. By a man of the following description : 27 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, and dressed in a dark mixture coat and vest, blue cloth trousers, black silk hat, and long top- boots outaide his trousers; of smart appearance. Information to be given to Head Constable Oglethorpe, Preston, Lancashire.— Bow- street, August 7. The dark grey mare Donkey advertised in the Police Gazette of the 3rd instant, as having been stolen from Welham Bridge, in the parish of Holme- upon- Spalding- Moor, the property of Thomas Fowler, labourer, has been found straying and restored to the owner.— Bow- street, August 5. Stolen from a field at Tachbrook, near Leamington, on the night of the 29th ultimo : a fat Sheep ; the skin not marked, and was slaughtered near the field by the side of the Banbury- road, the property of Mr. John Garner. Informa- tion to be given to Inspector Lapworth, Kineton Police Station, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, Auqust 5. Description of BENJAMIN BARBER, charged with steals ' a Pony and Car ( since recovered) on the 27th ult., the property of John Watson, Bungay, Suffolk : he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet high, light complexion, hair, and whiskers, and diminutive appearance; dressed in a suit of black cloth, black chummy bat, and lace- up shoes ; native of Yarinoutli, Norfold, and journeyman baker. He sold the horse and car, on the 27th ult., at Saxmundham, Suffolk, and gave the name and address— William Bowes, biscuit maker, No. 1, Back of Barracks, Ipswich, to which place he took • ticket by the 5 o'clock train the same day. Stolen from a stable in the borough of Bolton, during i the night of the 31st ultimo: a light bay Mare, 14 hands high, in good condition, and has three white spots on her i back. Stolen on the night of the 30th ultimo, from a field in the parish of East Wellow, Hants : a bright bay Mare, aged, 1 long black mane and tail, white star on forehead, about 14 hands high, the property of Sarah Whitcher. Information to be given to Superintendent Kellaway, Hants Constabulary,' Romsey.— Bono- street, August 3. Stolen from a field at Cleobury, Salop, during the night — : of the 27th ultimo, the property of Thomas Hughes : two fat Shropshire Down Ewes, with a cut mark under the right ear. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, UouDty Police Office, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Williams, Worthen, Shropshire.— Bow- street, August 3. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person, from the city of Chichester, I during Goodwood Races : On the 29th ultimo, a large gold chronometer Watch, ' Chronometer' on the face, crest on back with motto ' Yivete et vivate,' and a thick gold linked Chain attached. On the 30th ultimo, at the Chichester Railway Station : a gold open- faced repeater Watch, No. 92, maker Mallet, a small dial on the face shows the day of the month. On the same day and place : a gold lever Watch, a portion of the seconds hand broken off, has the name of ' Blackburne' on it. Also OD the same day and place : a gold Watch, © pen face, maker Barwise, London. Information to be given to Head Constable Pratt, City Police, Chichester, Sussex,— Bow- street, Auqust 6. Stolen from the person On the 29th ultimo, at Beckett- park, Shrivenham : a small leather Purse, containing a Half- sovereign, a Florin, a Sixpence, and an old- fashioned plated Seal with cornelian stone ; a gold lever Watch, compensated balance, capped and jewelled, No. 48O'/ 0, maker ' J. P. Deacon, New Swindon ; and a gold lever Watch, No. 12011, makers Betts, Fairfax, and Co., London (£ i0 reward will be paid on recovery of this watch). Information to be given to Super- intendent Reece, Faringdon, Berks.— Bow- street, August 3. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Swindon Railway Station, on the 29th instaut, a large gold lever Watch, maker1 Nicholson aid Dent, Strand, London : by a man, about 30 years of age, short and stout, ef very respect- able appearance, and dressed in a grey suit; supposed to have come from Bristol. £ 10 reward will be paid on recovery of the watch aud conviction of the offender. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Wilts Constabulary, Swindon. — Brno- street, July 31. Stolen on the night of the 30th or morning of the 31st ultimo, from a field in the parish of Osmaston : a dark brown horse, aged, 14 hands 3 inches high, white hoofs on off fore and hind legs, near fore leg chipped, and fired round hind hocks. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Con- stable Lawson, Litchurch, Derby.— Bow- street, August 7. Absconded from Wigtown, charged with Horse- stealing, BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 5th instant, a dwelling- house and shop was burglariously entered, and the following property and monies stolen therein : three Sovereigns in Gold ; about £ 3 in Silver, consisting of Half- Crowns, Florins, Shillings, and Sixpences ; a lady's brown leather Satchel, colour rather & c.: ROBERT ANDERSON, about 17 years of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 inches high, sandy hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, thin face, and short sighted; while in the Reformatory School, at Stranraer, was engaged at paper- bag making, is a good player on flute, is fond of dancing, and has a relative living in Bothwick's Close, Edinburgh ; dressed in blue bonnet, white canvass jacket, dark moleskin vest and trousers, and strong lace- up boots. JOHN MORRISON, about 16 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, black hair, hazel eyes, dark complexion, narrow con- tracted chin, a buzz in his speech when pronouncing the letter R, a peculiar rocking gait, looks on the ground, a tattooed dot on each hand near thumb, aud has a relative living at Burn's- Iand, Greenside- row, Edinburgh ; dressed in blue bonnet, dark moleskin faded jacket, dark moleskin vest and trousers, capped on the knees, aud strong laced boots. These youths were inmates of the Reformatory School at Stranraer, and were engaged at farm work in the neighbour- hood of Newtonstewirt, when they absconded early oil the morning of the 29th ultimo, taking with them the farmer's Horse and Dog- Cart. They have been traced along the Ayrshire- road to Prestwick, near Ayr, where the Horse aud Dog- Cart were found in a field. Information to be given to Chief Constable Murphy, Wig- town, Wigtownshire.— Bow- street, August 7. Stolen from a meadow in the parish of Tilehurst, duriug the night of the 5th instant: a black nag Mare, 6 years old, 15 hands high, small head and ears, white stroke down face, one hind foot white, supposed the near one, tail down to the hocks over at both fetlock joints behind, and a fast trotter, v^ lue £ 40, the ' property of Mr. Leonard, Tilehurst. Also stolen from a stable at the White Hart Inn, Theale : a set of nearly new Harness, silver plated, girt roughly mended underneath, a ring off near liame, the bearing rim hook off the pad, and a bright plated band across the front of the bridle, the property of MR, Radbourn. Information to be given to Superintendent Crook, Berks Constabulary, Reading. — Bow- street, August 7. Description of a brown ' Mare and Drag stolen from an hotel in Preston on the 3rel instant : the mare has black legs, 5 years old, 15 hands high, and in good working condition ; Stolen from Ebbw Vale Mountain, Monmouthshire, on the 18th June last, a dun- coloured gelding cart Horse, with J black mane, tail, and legs, 7 years old, 13 hands 3 inches . high, black stripe from shoulder to tail on centre of back, off : eye lost, and white hairs on top of shoulder on withers from working under ground, value ,£ 30. A reward of £ 1 will be paid upon conviction of the offender and recovery of the horse. Information to be given to Superintendent Fowler, Tredegar, or to Sergeant Fleming, Ebbw Vale, Monmouth- shire.— Bow- street, August 3. Stolen from a field near Bilston, on the night of the 25th instant: a black mare Pony, about 5 yrs. old, 12i hands high, in good condition, a little white on left hind leg, at fetlock. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent McCrea, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 31. JAMES SWAN, commercial traveller, late in the employ of Mr. William Henry Weaver, grocer, of Wolver- hampton, absconded on the 29th instant, taking with him a roan broken- kneed Mare and a skeleton Gig. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension for embezzling several large sums of money, the property of his employer. £ 20 reward will be paid for his apprehension by Mr. Weaver. He is 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light hair and com plexion, light sma, ll whiskers, shaves on chin, and is a native of High Onn, near Stafford. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Wolverhampton, who holds the warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, July 31. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Charged with larceny ( property recovered), a man of the following description : a painter, about 50 years of age, 0 feet 9 or 10 inches high, hair turning grey, slender figure ; dressed in a dark coat and trousers, and black billycock hat, occasionally wore linen jacket and trousers ; he is well known to the trade iu Lancashire and Yorkshire. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Stevens, Rochdale, Lancaster.- Bow- street, August 7. Absconded on the 2Sth ultimo from Tunbridge Wells, charged on a warrant with stealing a Watch ( recovered) : MARTHA LUSTED, a servant, about 20 years of age, very tall and thin, and has very light hair ; dressed in light cotton dress, black cape with black fringe, black bonnet with white flowers and black strings ; she gave the name of MARIA LE DOUX, and she is supposed to have relations in the neighbourhood of Hastings. Absconded on the 6th ultimo-, from Clapham, charged with embezzling £ 6 : a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fair complexion, sandy hair, lost left eye, and small whiskers; dressed in light grey coat, velvet collar, cord trousevo, and black felt hat. Description of MICHAEL McMANUS, who until recently held the appointment of Borough Treasurer for the borough of Blackburn, and while holding snch appointment did steal the sum of £ 700, the property of the Corporation ; a warrant has been isstied for his arrest: 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, proportionate make, oval fate, thin nose, small eyes, black hair, thin black wliiskers round sides of face, no beard or niotistaehe ; dressed iu black surtout coat, light cloth trousers and vest, and black silk hat ; He is of respectable appearance, a native of Houghton, near Black- burn, and will probably endeavour- to emigrate. Description of THOMAS BROWN, charged upon a warrant with embezzlement : - lately clerk to a tobacco manufacturer, 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, light complexion, small whiskers round face, small moustache, spare build, long features, rather deaf, and has a large blue mark on the leg from the bite of a dog; dressed in a dark tweed suit. A reward of £ 6 will be paid by the owners of the timber for the apprehension of each of the above- named men. Absconded, charged with fraud: LAWRENCE, or LAURENCE, 22 years of age, 5 feet Cinches high, dark complexion, dark browu hair, slight moustache, no whiskers, slight build, round shouldered, extremely small hands and feet, dark eyes, prominent teeth, lisps when speaking, of gentlemanly manners, but dissipated appearance ; has represented himself as the Marquis of Stafford, and, signed CROMARTIE LEVESON GOWER.
