Stolen from the person of Edward Lee, while at the Fox Inn, Bagley, on the 17th instant: a double- breasted moleskin Vest, light bone buttons on each side, two brown ones on the right side, blue sleeves, two pockets outside, and two inside ; and £ 1 in Gold. By a man named RICHARD BISHOP, a native of Shrewsbury, a shoemaker by trade, but generally works at farm labouring, about 5 feet 6 inches high, small dark sandy whiskers; dressed in the stolen vest, moleskin trousers, dark cloth cap, with brown earlaps, tied over the top. Information to be given to Superintendent Gougb, Oswestry, or to P. C. 42 Lewis, Cockshull, who holds the warrant for his appprehension.— Brno- street, July 22. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 21st instant, the dead body of a newly- born male child was found in the tank, qonnected with the water- closet in the yard of the Commercial Inn, Burnley. A verdict of ' Wilful Murder' has beeu returned against some person or persons unknown. WILLIAM SHERWOOD, charged with uttering a forged cheque, and obtaining the sum of £ 13 : i No. 8, the Crescent, Belvidere- road, Lambeth, 44years of ape, 5 ft. 7 ins. high, fair complexion, dark brown hair, and auburn whiskers; dressed respectably, and keeps his head down while walking. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, July 22. FROM ROBBERY AND LARCENY THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at the Swindon Railway Station, on the 29th instant, a large gold lever Watch, maker Nicholson and Dent, Strand, London : by a man, about 30 years of age, short and stout, ef very respect- able appearance, and dressed in a grey suit; supposed to have come from Bristol. .£ 10 reward will be paid on recovery of the watch and conviction of the offender. Stolen from the person at Chesterfield Races, on the the 22nd instant : a silver lever Watch, maker — Moss, Oldham- street, Manchester, ' P. C. P. A. J., 1853,' engraved on the dome. Also on the 21st instant; a silver lever Watch, chased back, frosted dial, main finger broken off. Information to be given to Superintendent Carline, County Police Office, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, July 27, Stolen from the [ person of a gentleman in Hanley, Staffordshire, on the night of the a Purse, containing 1 Cheque for £ 240 on the Manchester and Liverpool Bank, Hanley, payable to Lund and Unsworth, signed by Martha Kettle and Charles Adams. 1 crossed Cheque for £ 25 on the National Provincial Bank, Hanley, signed— Gelson Brothers, and pay- able to J. and G. Breadhurst, and endorsed by them. 1 Cheque for £ 12 17s. on the National Provincial Bank of England, Stoke, signed— Per pro H. and J. Walters, H. Walters, and payable to Lund and Unsworth. 1 Cheque for £ 13 12s. on the National Provincial Bank of England, Lichfield, signed — A. Stolen from the person at Middlesborough, on the evening of the 20th instant : a double- cased verge Watch, No. 1045, and has ' H, Robson, 1859,' engraved on inner case. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 25th instant, the office of the Goods Department of the Great Eastern Railway Station, at Fakenham, was broken and entered, and a Cash Box, since recovered, containing a few Receipt Stamps, was stolen therein, the property of the Great Eastern Railway Company; and a quantity of old and Foreign Coins, the property of James Wild, clerk : three Francs, Republic, Louis Philippe and Napoleon; a Prussian Coin, a Thaler ; a J Rupee, East India Company ; a 50 Cents, abcut the size of a Sixpence ; a thirty Reis ; a Coin, size of Shilling, with marks on one side j a Coin, nearly as large as half- penny, with three rows of letters on one side ; a very old Two Shilling Peice; and several other Coins of various sizes, all silver coins ; an old Penny, has been in a fire ; a one- thirteenth of a Shilling, States of Jersey ; a J and i Annas, East India Service; a Half- penny, New Brunswick; a ditto, Nova Scotia; a French Penny and Half- penny; and several other Pieces, size of penny and half- penny, all copper Coins. Information to be given to Superintendent Murrell, Wallingham, or to Sergeant Newland, Fakenham, Norfolk.— Bow- street, Julv 29. Between 8 a. m. and 12 noon on 22nd inst., Barnsley- park Lodge, between Barnsley and Bibury, was broken into, au, i a Sovereign and a man's pair of lace- up Boots ( large size, nearly new, and lightly nailed) stolen therein. Supposed by a tramp, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, and very little whiskers ; dressed in a grey tweed jacket, dark trousers, and bowler hat; carried a small bundle in a red Handkerchief. Information to be given to Superintendent Wood, Constabulary Office, Cirencester, or to Police Constable Bell, Police Station, Bibury, Gloucester- shire.— Bow- street, July 27. A man of the following description is charged with breaking into the dwelling- house of Mr. Henry Maslen, at high, in good condition, ai little white on left bind leg, at fetlock. Chief Superintendent McCrea, Bilston, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 31. i JAMES- SWAN, commercial traveller, late in the- employ of Mr. William Henry Weaver, grocer, of Wolver hampton, absconded on the 29th instant, taking with him a roan broken- kneed Mare and a skeletan Gig. A warrant has been issued for his apprehansion for embezzling several large sums of money, the property of his. employs*. £ 20 reward i will be paid for his apprehension by Mr. Weaver. He is, 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 ov 7, inches high, light hair and com- plexion, light small whiskery shaves on chin, and is a native^ of High Onn, near Stafibrd: Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Wolverhampton, - who liolds the warrant for his arrest.— Bow- street, J- uly 31. Stolen on the night of the 22ud instant from Nether- Hall, Wickham, St. Paul's, Essex, the property of Thomas Brewster : a dark brown mare Pony, 13^ hands high, bang; tail, saddle mark on back, pa^ t of the mane cubbed oif, small - piece out of the fore leg above the hoof, is a high stepper, and; very fast, about 6 years old, and in good condition ;, aijd a,, very light Gig, has a small moveable boas, under the seat,, painted dark chocolate colour, with lines, of white, and the back is stuffed, covered with brown leather, £ 10. reward is offered for such information as will lead to the recovery of the Pony and Gig, and conviction of the offender, or offenders, Information to be given to Superintendent Ackers, Braintree, to Inspector Fox, Castle Hedingham, aDd to. Inspector Hammond, Halstead, Essex.— Bow- street, July 2: 2. Stolen from a field at Pitshill, near Tunstall, on the slight of the 18th instant: a black mare Pony, aged, 12> hands high, Shrewton, on the morning of the 26th instant, and stealing a ! having a dark brown mane, a little whitespot on the chine ; gold scarf Pin and Chain : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light brown hair, small sandy whiskers, and dressed in a short brown coat, grey trousers, very good boots, and at the time without hat or cap ; is supposed to have received a blow on the head. Two Guineas reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the above offender. Information to- be given to the Superintendent of Police, Fisherton, Salisbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, July 27. Further information respecting the burglary at the Rectory at Billingsley, near Bridgnorth, Salop, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 13th instant: a man, named EMANUEL WINWOOD, has been committed for trial at the Summer Assizes, to be held on the 29th instant; he is 40 years of age, 5 feet 7| inches high, swarthy complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, oval face, paralyzed oa right side, and is a native of Bewdley Forest. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, Shropshire. — Bow- street, July 24. Between 11 p. m. 17th, and 6' 30 a. m. 18th instant, the dwelling house of Mr. Thomas Wetherell, Langham- place, in the borough of Northampton, was entered by means of sliding back the window fastening, and the following property stolen therein : 1 dozen pearl handled desert Knives and Forks, plated, and supposed marked ' W.'; 1 dozen fish Kuives and Forks, plated ; and 1 hundred old gold, silver, and copper Coins, including one 5s. Piece of the reign of William and Mary, and one gold Dollar. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Chief Constable's Office, Northampton.— Bow- street, July 22. Charged at Kilmarnock, N. B., with assault and robbery ou the 8th instant : JOHN MUIR, alias CARSON, about 39 years of age, 5 feet 8^ inches high, sallow complexion, iight brown or sandy hair, with beard and bushy whiskers, hazel eyes, stout figure, scar » on both cheeks, one of them very large, has a slight halt in walking, tattooed on right arm with a heart and crown, and ' J. M.' in heart; dressed in dark stripe tweed trousers and vest, grey tweed coat, blue worsted cap with peak of same material, printed muffler neckerchief, side- spring boots, woollen check shirt; has been a soldier, and since his discharge has worked ou railways as an engine- keeper, and at mining ; he has been frequently convicted of theft. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Menzies, County Constabulary, Kilmarnock, Ayr.-* Bow- street, July 22. is in good condition, the property of William Price, coal dealer, Pitshill, near Tunstall, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Baker, Constabulary Office, Tunstall, Staffordshire, cr at any Police Station in the county of Stafford.— Bow- street, July 47.. Further description of the Horse stolen on the morning of the 8th instant, from the Mount, Frome, advertised in the-: Police Gazette of the 13th instant : a dark brown nag Horse 3 years old off, neatly 15 hands high, square cut tail, has. a splint on the outside of the near fore leg, which has bs « blistered, on the off for © leg a small white- haired mark spot about the size of a nut about the knee inside, tail has been docked, and a small wart on the belly. Information be given to Superintendent Deggan, Police Offioe, Frome, Somer- setshire.— Bow- street, July 27. Supposed to be stolen, on the night of the 20th ins&, from a field at Smethwick : a cream- coloured Mare, 15 hands high, black mane and tail, cut short, a little lame on off fore leg-,, small white collar mark on off shoulder, aged, in good condition ; the property of Mr. Jesse Lewis. Information to be given to Inspector McWilliams, Police Station^ Swethwick, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, July 27. Found early on the 20th instant, and supposed tt> have been stolen : four Heifers, 2 to 3 years old, one red and the others strawberry colour. Information to, be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Christie, Newport, Salop.— Bow- street4 July 22, HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING, Stolen from a field near Bilston, on the night of the 25th instant : a black mare Pony, about 5 yrs. old, 12i hands LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Description of two men charged with stealing a quantity of Timber at Manchester ( recovered), on the 23rd instant: THOMAS DOWNS, a carter, 45 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, brown hair, little or no whiskers, fresh looking, and proportionate make; dressed in cord trousers, white linen jacket, and billycock hat; is a native of Manchester, and lately rosided at' 7, Foster- street, City- road, Huline ; is well- known in the neighbourhood of Deansgate, and was formerly a boatman, and is supposed to be known at Runcorn and at Leigh ; and JOHN BERRY, a cabinet maker, occu- pying rooms in the Brownsfield Mills, Great Ancoats- street, t^ ucl residing at No. 64, Oldbam- road, Newton Heath, is 41 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, bald head, and of respectable appearance. A reward of £ 5 will be paid by the owners of the timber for the apprehension of each of the above- named men. Absconded, charged with fraud: LAWRENCE, or LAURENCE, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches- high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, slight moustache, * no whiskers, slight build, round shouldered, extremely small hands and feet, dark eyes, prominent teeth, lisps when speaking, of gentlemanly manners, but dissipated appearance ; has represented himself as the Marquis of Stafford, and signed CROMARTIE LEVESON GOWER. Warrant issued. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Scotland- yard, London.— Metropolitan Police, July 31. Description of WM. ( alias) SOLOMAN PATTISON, of Swainby, near Stokesley, miner, who absconded from Guisbro' on the 25th instant, stealing : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, and a little hair about chin, thin face, and rather fern freckled ; dressed when he left in a velvet jacket, black cloth vest, dark striped cloth trousers, strong boots, and a dark rough Bendigo cap, he left his - eld working clothes behind him. Information to be given to Superintendent Prest, North Riding Constabulary, Geisbro', York.- Bow- street, July 31. Stolen from a- dwelling- house at Bolton on the 28th inst.: a lady's gold lever Watch, No. 33? t! 5, or 33756 ; also a gen- tleman's gold Hoop with hinge and set with hair, and 2s. in Money. On the 20th instant from another dwelling- house : a lady's brown imitation sealskin Jacket, and a black corded silk Cape, trimmed with crape. By a young woman who lodged at each of the above houses one night; about 20 years of age, about 5 feet .2 or 3 inches' high, proportionate make, dark complexion, short dark loose frizzy hair, has lost two upper front teeth, and occasionally wears two false ones ; was dressed inblaek silk jacket, dirty light stuff dress with flounces up the front, black straw hat trimmed with black ribbon and small bine feather, and sometimes wears a black veil, also a large gold- plated brooch with a gentleman's portrait therein, and carries a small red satchel suspended to her belt by a brass chain, containing a large number of pawntickets, two of them relating to two Watches pawned at Liverpool, one for £ 5 10s,, and the other with a Chain for £ 8 ; also two relating to two Rings pawned at Manchester. H.' engraved on outside case; a dark Jacket bound with black braid; dark grey Trousers and Vest. By JOHN BARNFIELD, about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches hig » , light hair and com- plexion, no whiskers, round shouldered, high cheek bones, >& as the appearance of a gentleman's servant; supposed to be wearing the stolen property ; he was last heard of at Wed- nesbury, Staffordshire. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Freeman, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 29. Stolen from a Refreshment- room at Sittingbourne, on the 23rd instant: one black silk Underskirt, quilted, looped with white tape on top, bound with black braid .; one black silk Overskirt, , two flounces round the bottom ; and one violet satin Underskirt. By a man and woman.; the man is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inehes high, fair complexion, and ginger whiskers and moustache; dressed in light over- coat, black vest, light trousers, side- spring boots, high black hat, and carried a' black bag and brown paper parcel. The ( much too large for him), light grey trousers and vest, tand hard billycock hat. Information, to be given to Chief Con- stable Saggerson, North Riding Constabulary, Middlesbro.' — Bow- street, July 24. Absconded from Sevenoaks, on the 17th instant^- charged on a warrant with embezzlement: ROBERT GOUGE, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark completion, black hair, whiskers, moustache, and eye3, and rather downcast look; dressed when last seen in a dark mixture suit, black silk hat, and nearly- new side- spring boots ; smart military appearance. Has served in the Royal Artillery and R Division of Metropolitan Police. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Kent.— Bow- street, July 22. Absconded on the 16th instant from Crawford- street, St. Marylebone, charged with embezzling £ 13 3s. 10s.: a wan 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light curly hair; dressed in light blue cloth coat, cord trousers, and black felt hat. — Metropolitan Police, D Division, July 22. Absconded on the 17th instant, charged with stealing £ 17: a man 30 years of age, fair complexion, and grey eyes ; dressed in dark clothes, high hat,, and is a coachman.— Metro- politan Police, V Division, July 22. Absconded on the 15th instant, charged with embezzling £ 6 12s. 6d., the moneys of his employers : JNO. P. STRIPP,. late of Jessamin- grove, Penge; 34 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, red hair and face, small lump on one cheek; dressed in a » black coat and high black hat. His father resides at No. 40, Arnott- street, New Kent- road, where he is likely to go. A, warrant is issued.-— Metropolitan Police, W Division, July 22 Description of GEORGE WILSON, a native of Man- chester, a stonemason, who was last employed at Lower Bebington, Cheshire, from which place he absconded on the 14th instant, having stolen from his lodgings £ 2 in Gold and a pair of man's elastic- side Boots : he is about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, long features, fresh complexion, dark hair and moustache, whiskers shaved off, and cut mark on forehead ; dressed in a black cloth frock or shooting coat, grey woollen trousers, double- breasted flowered vest, and felt hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Egerton, County Hall, Birkenhead, Cheshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 22. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Obtained by fraud on the 24th instant, of Mrs. E. Thorn, keeper of a general shop, East- street, Faversham, £ 4. By two men, one about 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in dark clothes, who called at the above shop, and represented himself to be a schoolmaster, who kept a number of boarders, and required a quantity of fish- hooks for their use, he wrote a list of the kinds he should want, and left the shop ; shortly after the other man about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair and moustache, no whiskers; dressed in dark clothes, and a hard felt hat, called and represented himself as a commercial traveller, carried a black bag, containing fish- hooks, the kinds described in the list ; he induced Mrs. Thorn to purchase a a quantity of the value of 10s., for which he obtained the sum of £ 4. Information to be given to Head Constable Breary, Faversham, Kent.— Bow- street, July 29. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Missing from his home since the 27th instant, at Redcar: WILLIAM JOHNSON, a young Scotchman, 19 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slender build, large hands and feet, brown eyes, dark complexion, dark brown hair, no woman. is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stoutly j whiskers. This young man left Redcar on the above date for built, and red face ; dressed in black lace bonnet, with ' West Hartlepool, where he arrived and made several calls in coloured flowers, light print dress, pannier of same material, j bis business as a draper, and has not since been heard of ; it gold ear- rings, rings on fingers, and black jacket tied in at! is feared some ill has befallen him. " Simpson, North Riding Constabulary, South Stockton, Stolen from the quarters of an officer in the Infantry Barracks, Canterbury : a gold Pin, maltese eros*; a mosaic Pin; a set of coral Studs and Buttons; a set of coral, shirt Studs ; a set' of pkin gold Studs ; £ 5 in Gold ; and a £ 5 Note, No. £ 7870, the property of Mr. Gridley, 5th Lancers. By a man who has deserted from the 5th Lancers, 23 years of age, 5 feet 7 or. 3 inches high ; diessed in blaek and white mixture suit, black felt hat, new spring- side boots, and flannel shirt with gold studs.
