As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted it the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, TUESDAY, JUNE 2, 1874. SCOTTISH POLICE. WANTED, at Greenock, on a Sheriff's Warrant, charging him with two acts of fraud, James Duncan, a clerk, about 80 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, has scrofulous marks on both sides of neck, but mostly on the left side, black hair, sallow complexion, roundish face, dark eyes, short nose, whiskers thin on cheeks, wears moustache and beard, ordinary make, Scotch accent, was bred a railway clerk, and was for some time employed in the office of Messrs. Burns and M'Iver, shipowners, Liverpool; usually wore a blue monkey or reefing jacket, dark trowsers, white shirt, and common black tie, and generally went well dressed. On 18th October last this person sent a false tile- gram from Liverpool to Messrs. John Reid and Co., shipbuilders, Port- Glasgow, purporting to be from Mr. James Reid, son of the senior partner of that firm, requesting that a Bank draft for £ 20 should be sent to him at the Grand Junction Hotel, Liverpool. The draft was sent in a registered letter, as desired, and accused got possession of it and cashed the cheque. On 13th February last Messrs. John Kerr and Co., shipowners in Greenock, received a telegram, purporting to be from Captain Pirnie, master of their ship " Culzean," which was then lying at Liverpool, requesting that £' 20 should be sent to him at 85, Duke- street, Liverpool. On the 14th and 16th February, he wrote to the Post Office officials in Liverpool, requesting that the registered letter which would arrive addressed to Captain Pirnie, should be sent to 45, Great Oxford- street, Mount- pleasant, Liverpool. He signed Captain Pirnie's name to both of these letters, and when tlio registered letter arrived it deliverod at 45, Great Oxford- street, and accused again forged , Captain Pirnie's name to the receipt required by the Post Office authorities. As this is a most dangerous species of fraud, and it is believed that the accused will continue it on evefy available opportunity, Police officers are earnestly requested to use their utmost endeavours to have the accuscd apprehended, and on infor- mation being sent to Robert Blair, esq., Procurator- Fiscal, Greenock, or to the subscriber, that he is in custody, an officer will be at once sent for him. DESCRIPTION of Alexander Gordon, native of Tully- rawley, who stands charged with having, on the night of too 21st February, at Ballywatermoy, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Craigs, inflicted wounds on the head of John Treacy, of Dunmining, from the effects of which he died on the 24th:— Very smart active appearance, rather slender make, downcast look ; regular nose, dark complexion, sharp face, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 80 years of age, dark hair; shaved liis cheeks on a lino with mouth, wore his beard from that round and under chin, no moustache; wore a cloth cap with rough edging, moleskin jacket, cord trowsers. The Coroner's Jury found him guilty of homicide, and a Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Ballymena. Ballymena, February 26, 1874. ( 862 o— 1519.) DESCRIPTION of 2 heifers, the property of Timothy Horan, which are supposed to have been stolen from ihe lands of Caherbarnagh, parish of Drishane, barony of West Muskerry, on the 14th inst.:— 1. A red and white speckled heifer, back high at loins; short, stout and straight horns; 2 years old, and value about £ 7. 2. A brown heifer, with dark f- treaks running through, white on left flank, and white spot on left shoulder, horns cocked and in- clining backwards, 2 years old, value £ 7. Macroom, May 28, 1874. DESCRIPTION of convict John Sullivan ( 2266), who has broken the conditions of his licence in not re- porting himself to the Constabulary:— Convicted at Nenagh, county Tipperary, at Easter Sessions, on 8th April, 1870, for larceny of money from the person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude; 30 years of age on conviction, reads and writes badly, is a Roman Catholic, single; by trade a shoemaker, prison trade labourer; born in Cappo- quin, county Waterford, where he resided before conviction; dark brown hair, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, long nose ( a hollow nearly in centre), regular mouth, sallow complexion, long visage, average make, 5 feet 6J inches high; a cut on right side of upper lip ; tattooed on both arms; the tattoo marks are as follows, viz.— a harp, shamrock, and + Erin- go- bragh, also I. H. S. and Britannia on right O arm; the figures of a male and female and a long cross on left arm, and an anchor on back of left hand. The above- named convict was released from Lusk Prison, on 5th May, 1874, on an order of licence. He reported himself at the Constabulary Station, Corn- market- street, Cork city, on the 7th instant, and left on the 14th instant without giving notice of such change at that station. In the event of his arrest, he shoul4 be dealt with under the 5th section of the " Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871" ( 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112). Government Prisons Office, Dublin Castle, May 23, 1874. R., who stands charged with having, on the night of the 7th instant, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Nohavaldaly, assaulted and beateq Daniel Hickey, whose life is in danger from same:— Thick nose, dark complexion, broad face, stout inake, 5 feet 9£ inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a low hard black hat, " dark frieze frock coat, gray tweed trowsers, gray vest. DESCRIPTION of Michael Field, native of Cooleen, who stands charged with having ( in conjunction with John Field, who has been arrested,) on the 13th April, 1874, at Macroom, in the barony of West Mii skerry, parish of Macroom, inflicted such inj uries on Jeremiah Dineen as caused his death:— Smart active appearance, wears a slight moustache, the rest of the face shaved; blue eyes, thin nose, fair complexion, rather long face, smart make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 26 years of age, sandy hair; wore a black coat, light fowsers. DESCRIPTION of Cornelius Driscoll, native of Ballinlough, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 20th inst., in the barony of East Car- beiy, West Division, parish of Kilmacabea, struck Denis Driscoll a blow of a stick on the head, from the effects of which he died on the following morn- ing :— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, I ather long face, stout make, 5 feet inches high; about 85 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft round hat, blue coat and trowsers ; smart intelligent appearance; has a very keen look about the eyes, and THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, JUNE 2, 1874. has the appearance of a man of determination; his hair hangs about the sides of his head as if recently wetted, it is long and straight and rather thin. DUBLIN CASTLE, 28rd May, 1874. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, at the hour of eight o'clock on the evening of the 26th April last, Mr. George Whitford, of Derrynasura, near Mountrath, in the Queen's County, was fired at and wounded by some person or persons at present unknown, when crossing his own yard from his stable to his dwelling- house: His Grace, for the better apprehending and bring- ing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of TWO HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such private information as shall lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Grace's Command, T, H. BURKE1 The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by Thomas Hamilton, esq., the Resident Magistrate at Maryborough, to those who may become entitled to it under the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Dooley, native of Foxboro', and Thomas Ryan, native of Ballinakill, who stand charged with having, on the 11th day of May, 1874, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Aghna- meadle, assaulted John Gleeson, at Park, county Tipperary, by striking him with stones on the head, and kicking him, thereby endangering his life: — 1. Patrick Dooley, fresh cut mark over right eye, and he has a large mouth, very red face ; hazel eyes, regular nose, red complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 80 years of age, red hair ; wore ordinary country dress. 2. Thomas Ryan, stoops his head, and swings his right arm across his body in a manner which would attract attention, wears his hat rather much at the back of his head; gray eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, long face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 19 years of age ; wore ordinary country dress. These men are likely being sheltered in the mountainous parts and bogs of this and adjoining counties. Borrisoleigh, May 17, 1874. ( 1903 c.— 8520.) DESCRIPTION of John Barragry, native of Glass- drum, who stands charged with having, on the 9 th May, 1874, at Glassdrum, in the barony of Kilna- managh Lower, parish of Donohill, violently assaulted Martin Ryan, from the effects of which he has since died :— High narrow shoulders, very stupid and heavy appearance, speaks with a drawl, walks with a swagger, short neck ; regular nose, fair complexion, large teeth, the eye teeth exposed, particularly when speaking; is medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 21 years of age, light brown hair, no beard or whiskers; wore a dark frieze frock coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vest; is a carpenter by trade.
