All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be in i inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. STOLE?, from a dwelling- house, at Chester, at 7.15 p. m., Tuesday, the 10th March, 1874, ( entrance being obtained through a bed- room window,) the following property, viz.:— A gentleman's gold hunting watch, maker " Ros- kell," Liverpool, and " J. M. T." on case, No. 65,043; a 1ady's gold Geneva," Tresseau, Geneve," ondial, No. 3,143; a gold Albert swivel key. having green stone with boar's head on one side, and " J. M. T." on the other; a diamond ring, set with 5 stones, " E. M. R," and " J. MT." cn the insile; a ring, sapphire in centre and two diamonds, engraved " J. M. T. to E. M. R., J 6th April, 1861;" a ring, with emerald in centre, and two diamond", Indian setting; a lady's necklet and appendage, set with diamonds and rubies; a lady s necklet, with large carbuncle and slide— a photograph of a gentleman on cne side; a diamond brooch, set with 8 small stones and 1 large, and with gold tassel; a Florentine Mosaic brooch, with jessamine and forget- rpe- nots; a Roman Mosaic brooch, pattern— a temple; a silver dessert spoon, initiab " E M. R, 1346 ;" and several other rings and brooches. The above reward will be paid to anyone giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the thief or thieves and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. STOLEN from the bed- room of a public- house in Chester, on the 26th March, 1874 ( a horse- fair day):— A lady's gold lever watch, No. 4940, no maker's name, engine- turned; a diamond riDg, single stone, claw set ; a gold guard ring, in box with glass centre ; a garnet ring, with pearl on each side; a small turquoise and pearl cluster ring; a broad 18- carat keeper; a gold wedding ring, in box with glass centre ; 3 small gold antique oblong box brooches ( 1 reddish gold); a gold secret- link lady's chain; a black enamel and gold lady's locket; a small engraved locket; a small gold seal, white cornelian with owl as crest; a small gold red cornelian seal; a large gold seal, topaz with three initials; an oblong Mosaic brooch with figure of dog, and gold mounted; a gold tie brooch ; a white cornelian brooch, with turquoise sprays, gold mounted ; a lady s very thin gold chain. The above reward will be paid for such irfformation as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves. DESCRIPTION of Richard Murphy, who is charged with having feloniously personated another person at the late Parliamentary Elections for the borough of Dublin, held on the 6th ult :_ He is about 19 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inches high, medium make, dark complexion and dark hair, brown or dark colour eyes, walks erect with a smart gait, generally wears dark colour clothes, he is a grocer's assistant, and was so employed some time ago at "" aghmon, county Wexford, which is his native town. DESCRIPTION of Alexander Gordon, native of Tully- rawley, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 21st February, at Bally watermoy, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Craigi, inflicted wounds on the bead of John Treacy, of Dunmining, from the effects of which be died on the 24th :— Very smart active appearance, rather slender make, downcast look ; regular nose, dark complexion, sharp face, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; shaved his cheeks on a line with mouth, wore his beard from that round and under chin, no moustache ; wore a cloth cap with rough edging, moleskin jacket, c > rd trowsers. The Coroner's Jury found him guilty of homicide, and a Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Ballymena. Ballymena, February 26, 1874. ( c. 862— 1519.) DESCRIPTION of James Smith alias Jumper Smith, native of county Monaghan. who stands charged with having, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankill, absconded to evade trial at Assizes, for serving threatenii g notices during the riots atBelfast in August, 1872:— Scar on left temple, tuft of llack hair on chin; brown eyes, straight nose, sallow com- plexion, oval face, proportionate make, 6 feet ii. ch high, about 80 years of age, black hair; wore a soiled black cloth cap with peak and broad crown such a* is worn by navvies, short blue coat ( much worn), moleskin trowsers and vest, navvy boots. DESCRIPTION of John Brown, native of Bandon- road, Cork, who stands charged with having, on the 28th March, in the barony of Cork, parish of Carrig- aline, robbed Mary Murphy of several articles of wearing apparel, on the public road:— Dark com- plexion, coarse face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 80 years of age; wore a jerry hat, gray tweed coat and trowsers ; he is a rough- looking fellow. DESCRIPTION of a man and a woman, names unknown, natives of Cork, who stand cbargfd with having, on the morning of the 28th March, 1874, in the barony of East Muskerry, parish cf Carrigrohan, seriously assaulted Sub Constables Bowden and Landy, of the Blarney station, by striking them on the head with a hammer and stones, when in the act of arresting them on a charge of having, in a donkey's car, 2 bags of fowl which were stolen :— 1. A man unknown— Stout make, 6 feet 2 inches high, about 40 years of age, light hair; wore a tweed ccat, trowsers and vest. 2. A woman unknown— Stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 35 a ears of age ; wore a black cloak over the head, and was barefooted. They were accompanied by a man named Denis Shea, who is in custody, and states he is from Collins'- lane, Cork. This man is a lag and bone gatherer, and most likely the man and woman wanted are of the same occupation, and will in all probability be found near the same locality. , Ballincollig, March 29, 1874. DESCRIPTION of Cornelius Driscoll, native of Ballinlough, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 20th inst., in the barony of East Car- bery, West Division, parish of Kilmacabea, struck Denis Driscoll a blow of a stick on the head, from the effects of which he died on the following morn- ing :— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, lather long face, stout make, 5 feet 7^ inches high: about 35 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft round hat, blue coat and trowsers ; smart intelligent appearance ; has a very keen look about the eyes, and has the appearance of a man of determination; his THE POLICE GAZETTE, OB HUE- AND- CRY, APEIL 7, 1874. hair hangs about the sides of his head as if recently wetted, it is long and straight and rather thin. James Diver— Large thick lips, prom'nent teeth ; gray eyes, long nose, dark complexion, long face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair; wore a low hard felt hat, worn on back of head, dark coat and trowsers. 2. James Harraghy— Sharp nose, dark complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 46 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a low black felt hat, dark frieze frock coat, dark trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of Philip Maguire alias Roe, native of Gortahurk, and Joseph M'Intyre or M'Intaggart, native of Aughyoule, who stand charged with havicg, on the 17th day of March, 1874, in the barony of Knockninny, parish of Tomregan, with others, grievously assaulted Michael Maguire, by striking him on the head with sticks or loaded butts, from the effec's of which his life is in danger:— 1. Philip Maguire alias Roe— Holds his head doum when walking; gray tender eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age; wore a green necktie with a harp on it. 2. Patrick Joyce, junior— Pockmarked, wants first joint of thumb of right hand, walks slovenly ; gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 24 years of age, fair hair; wore a black cloth cap, dark frieze coat, barracan trowsers, dark tweed vest. 2. Michael Joyce— walks slovenly, h" s a cunning appearance ; dark eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 19 years of age, black hair; wore a low hat, black frieze coat, corduroy trowsers, black frieze vest 3. William O'Brien— wears all his beard except a small portion on the chin ; gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 jears of age, very fair hair; wore a white hat, dark frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. 4. Thomas O'Brien— Loose appearances gray eyes, long nose, fair complexion, long lace, stout make, 5 fett 10 inches high, about 80 years of age, black hair; wore a low round hat, dark frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. 5. John O'Brien— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, very stout make, 6 feet 4 inches high, about 83 years of age, very fair hair; wore a low round hat, dark frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest, 6. Denis O'Brien— Dark eyes, thick nose, dark complexion, regular face, very stout make, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, about 28 years of ago; wore a black jerry hat, dark frieze coat, dark trowsers and vest. 7. Michael O'Brien— Dark eyes, short nose, dark complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 40 years ot age, black hair; wore a low round hat, black frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of convict Mary Hogan ( 1797), who has broken the conditions of her licence in not reporting herself to the Constabulary on change of residence : Convicted at Tralee, county Kerry, at Summer Assizes, on 16th July. 1869, for larceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude; 38 years of age on conviction, is a Roman Catholic, single, prison trade sempstress ; born in Tipperary, resided before conviction at Kerry; her friends reside at Thurles ; dark brown hair, gray eyes, da k eyebrows, long nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 3 inches high. The above- named convict was released from Mount- joy Female Prison, on an order of licence to be at large on the 23rd August, 1873. ft appears by a report from the Constabulary, that this woman ( who had been sentenced to I month's imprisonment in Clonmel Gaol, and who was dis- charged thfrefrom on the I 9th March, 1874,) informed the Police that she would go to Tipperary the same day, but she has not reported herself there. In the event of her arrest, she should be dealt with under the 5th section of the " Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871" ( 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112). DESCRIPTION of John Cassidy, native of Sonaghbeg, who stands cbargod with having, on the 20th March, 1874, at Sonaghbeg, in the barony of Mohill, parish of Cloone, struck Bernard Conlon with a spade on the head, from the effects of which his life is in danger:— Short neck, bow- legged, very wide nostrils, and very activs appearance ; blue e_ t es, long thin nose, sallow complexion, broad face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 86 years of age, b'ack hair, wore all his whiskers ( very black); wore a jerry hat, blue frock coat, white cord trowsers, dark tweed vest.
