The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known hut not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The ames of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion iu the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without bis authority. Stolen from a gentleman at Windsor Steeplechases, on the 21st instant : a Card Case, silver- mounted corners, which bears the initials ' F. H. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Newcastle- on- Tyne, on the 19th instant: a small- sized gold lever Watch, plain case, enamelled dial, makers Lister and Sons, Newcastle- on- Tyne, No. 4444. Informatioa to be given to Chief Constable Nicholls, Newcastle- on- Ty ne.— Bow- st., March 23. INFORMATIONS MURDEB AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found in the river Aire, in the borough of Leeds : the BURGLARY AID HOUSE BREAKING. The man advertised in the Police Gazette of the 30th ultimo, charged with housebreaking on the Long Mountain, near Buttington, was traced to and apprehended at Middle, Shropshire, by P. C. Owen Lewis, and the whole of the stolen Clothes, & c., recovered ; he is cornn. itted for trial at the Mid- summer Sessions : his name is JAMES PLANT, labourer, a native of Hinstock, near Newport, Shropshire, 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh fact, dark hair, brown eyes, dark sandy whiskers tinged with grey, cupping marks on right side, and a scar on right side of forehead ; he has been twice convicted of felony in Montgomeryshire, more than 20 years ago. Information to be given to Superintendent Strefford, Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.— Bow- street, April 2. pairs of Sugar Tones, one marked ' C.,' the other ' J. S.;' and a very large Soup Ladle, marked ' C.'— all silver ; also 15s. in Copper and a heavy brown cloth Topcoat, with velvet collar. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds, Yorkshire.— How- street, March 30. Stolen by means of housebreaking, from the house of Mr. E. Coombs, of Beaminster, on the 26th instant: a Cash Box, containing £ 2 10s. in Silver, two counterfeit Half- crowns, two counterfeit Florins, a Deed of Nomination of Property at Beaminster, a £ 20 Bill of Acceptance, due to E. Coombs, and a £ 40 Note of Hand in favour of E. Coombs, Beaminster. Information to be given to Superintendent MacHale, Beamiuster, Dorset.— Bow- street, March 27. During the night of the 13th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Lanham, of High- street, Southampton, was broken aud entered, and the following property stolen therein: a silver Cream Jug, stands on three legs; a pair of Sugar Tongs; and a Tea Spoon, marked ' L.' Information to be given to Head Constable Breary, Southampton, Hants Bow- street, March 27. During the night of the 20th instant, rthe dwelling- house of Mr. George Lailey, the Boot Inn, Stanford Dingley, was broken and entered, and about 8s. worth of Coppers stolen from the till. Absconded on the 9th instant, charged with forgery: HUBERT WOOD, late of 76, Shakespere- road, Stoke New- ington, 26 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, florid com- plexion, sandy hair aud whiskers, full moustache, and generally wears an Oxford felt hat and dark clothes. Stolen from various persons at Aintree Baces on the 25th and 26th ultimo : A gold Geneva Watch, engraved cases, enamelled dial, jewelled in 13 holes, No. 2443, made in Lausan. £ 2 reward will be paid for the recovery of this Watch. A silver lever Watch, white dial, gold hands, maker— ' J. Slater, Ormskirk, No. 31536.' £ 1 reward will be paid for the recovery of this Watch. A man, supposed to be an Irishman, who was seen inthe neighbourhood, is suspected : about 50 years of age, 5 fet 3 or 4 inches high, grey hair, nearly white, slightly bald0n crown of head, no whiskers; when last seen was wearing dark jacket with pockets outside, light cord waistcoat, ligt trousers, and black jimcrow bat, and was carrying a shoj thick stick like a bludgeon. He was seen at Upton- on Severn on the night of the robbery, professing quack mation to bo given to Superintendent Hayes, Windsor, Berks.— Bm- street, March 23. Duriug the night of the 17th instant, the dwelling- houses of it. H. Barker, Esq., surgeon, and Mr. D. Allen, grocer, both of the High- st., llungerford, were burglariously broken and entered, aud the following property stolen, viz. : about £ 2 10s, principally* in Gold, from the house of the former ; and a pair of Sugar Tongs aud a pair of Salt Spoons, marked ' D. E. A.;' two Tea Spoons, marked ' G. J. H.', and one ditto, marked ' D. A.;' all silver, from the house of the latter. Early on the morning of the 28th instant, the dwelling- house of the Rev. J. C. Knott, Monckton Combe, was broken into, and the following Articles were stolen from a workbox in the drawing- room : a pair of Scissors, a Thimble, a clasp Knife, a Stiletto, and a small Tea Spoon, marked 1S.', all silver. By three men, one of whom kept watch outside, they were disturbed by one of the inmates hearing tliem aud giving an alarm. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Bath.— Bow- street, March 30. During the night of the 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. Benjamin Spry Stock, of Durdham Down, Westbury upon- Tryiu, was burglariously entered, and the following property stolen therein : a pair of silver sugar Tongs ; a sugar Sifter ; a silver tea Scoop ; four silver tea Spoons ; four silver salt Spoons; a silver drinking Cup; a silver mustard Spoon ; and a silver Cruet Stand, some of the articles are marked ' T. E.\ some ' W. S.' and ' T.' Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Bawle, Fishponds, or to Sergeant Monk, Westbury- on- Trym, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, March 30. Stolen by means of housebreaking, in Leeds, on the night of the 27th instant : a large old- fashioned Cream Jug, marked ' D.;' four Salts, six Salt Spoons, a Teacaddy Spoon, a Mustard Spoon, and six Dessert Spoons, all marked ' C.;' twelve heavy Tea Spoons, queen's pattern, maiked ' J. Description of a man charged with stealiug three gold Rings, the property of Lieutenant Cunningham, 103rd Bombay Fusiliers, now stationed at Newport, Monmouth- shire, on the 12th ultimo: 2l> years cf age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and has a cast in one or bo: h eyes; dressed in a grey tweed suit ( whioh he is also charged with stealing), black hard bowler hat, and military boots. He, is a deserter from the above regiment, and - was last heard of at Portsmouth, on the landiug of the troops from the Gold Coast; he is supposed to be a deserter from the Hussars, aud is a native of Clerkcnwell, London. £ 1 reward will be paid by Lieutenaut Cunningham for liis apprehension. HENRY POYNTON, described in the Police Gazette of the 27th ultimo, charged on a warrant with stealing Cheese at Appleby, Derbyshire, has been arrested.— Bow- street, Aprils. Absconded from Carlton- in- Lindrick, Notts, on or about the 6th ultimo, charged with embezzlement: BENJ. MACHIN UNWIN, relievicg officer of the Worksop Union, about 23 years of age, about 6 feet 8 inches high, fresh com- plexion, light sandy hair, whiskers, and beard ; dressed in a grey mixture suit, and black felt billycock hat. He was last heard of at Manchester, is a native of Sheffield, Yorkshire, 6 inches high, ruddy complexion, high cheek bones, dark hair and eyes, anchor on left arm, and ship on breast; dressed in a dswk blue reefiug jacket, blue trousers aud vest, violet and black striped shirt, black felt hat, aud side- spring boots. May endeavour to go to sea.— Metropolitan Police, E Division,, March 25. Stolen on the 23rd instant, from the ship Corunna, lyiDg in Whitby harbour : a blue double- breasted fine cloth Jacket, velvet collar, bound with braid, three pocket3 outside and one inside left breast, covered buttons ( nearly new) ; a pair of light mixture cloth trousers; a light mixture cloth vest ; a sealskin Cap ; and a pair of old side- spring Boots, recently soled and had new elastics put in. By an apprentice, who is supposed to belong to Southwark, London, about 20 years of age, & feet 5 or 6 inches high, pale complexion, light brown hair, small light beard on chin, aud small light moustache, slender figure ; stated that he had relations residing at Wis- ba » cb, Cambridgeshire, Sunderland, and County Durham. Description of WILLIAM SKELTON CADE, com- mercial traveller, charged on a warrant with embezzlement: about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, light com- I plexion, whiskers round face aud moustache, sometimes wears eye- glasses, and has been iu the Wine and Spirit trade. Last seen at Dewsbury. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Central Police Office, Town Hall, Leeds.— Bov- street, March 23. Absconded from Chaster, charged with stealing a Tarpaulin, recovered : a ticket- of- leave man, known as BOB WOODS, about 27 years cf age, 5 feet 4J- inches high, hair getting thin on top of head, staring black eyes, and is by trade a bricklayer, and nuy be found working at cottage or any common brick buildings ; he married a woman named Shannou, at Widnes last year, she will probably be with him. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Chester.— Bow- street, March 23. Stolen on the morning of the 20th instant, from the Commercial Hotel, Crewe: a black cloth Jacket, pocket in each skirt behind, pocket inside left breast, lined with striped twilled cloth, and two buttons ou each wrist; a single- breo. sted Vest, made of the same material ; a pair of Trousers, made of the same material, lined in the waistband with the same material as the jacket; a black cloth Jacket, pocket outside each skirt with flaps, pocket outside left breast, quilted in the back, torn a little on one sleeve, and darned ; a black silk velvet Jacket, pocket outside each skirt, bound with b'ack braid, and lined with a black material ; and a Vest, made of the same material, watch pocket in left breast, and flat black cloth buttons. By a young man who had been lodging at the hotel the previous night: 18 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, mther light make, dark complexion, no whiskers or moustache; dressed in dark cOat, small grey plaid trousers, and hard billycock hat; carried a black leather bag with him, and left behind him in the bedroom a and is a silver brazier by trade.
