CONTAINING The substance of all Informations received in eases of Felony and of Misdemeanors of an aggravated nature, and against Receivers of Stolen Goods, reputed Thieves, and Offenders escaped from Custody, with the time, the place, and the circumstance of the Offence. The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but not in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The 2< ames of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and Bworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any aiticle in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without bis authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the morning of the 13th instant, the dead body of a fully developed newly born male child was found in a cart on the quay of the Barge Dock in Goole ; the body was wrapped • in an old red flannel petticoat, and covered over with a piece of old sacking; according to the medical evidence the child had died from a fracturo of the skull, caused by a blow from some blunt instrument. At an adjourned inquest held on the 17th instant, the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against some person or persons unknown. It is supposed that the child was conveyed from some vessel to the /; art. Information to be given to Superintendent Green, West Biding Constabulary, Goole, Yorkshire.— liow- sireet, March 18. On the morning of the 18th January last Joseph Grymes was found murdered in his cottage in Bentham Lane, in the parish of Purton, Wilts. A reward of .£ 100 will be paid by the Government to any person who shall give such informa- tion and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction • of the murderer or murderers, and the Home Secretary will advice the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any . accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Superintendent North, Swindon, or to Chief Constable Sterne, Devizes, Wilts.- - Bow- street, March 10. FORGERY. Description of JOHN KINGSTON, who is charged at Newport with having, on the 26th of January last, at the parish of Cariabrooke, in t^ e borough of Newport, feloniously altered a certain accountable receipt, that is to say, a pawn- ticket, with intent to defraud ; he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, and dirty appearance; is a carpenter by trad » , but is sometimes employed as a painter ; was last heard of at Oxford, on the 11th instant, where he applied for relief at the Anti- Mendicity Society's Office. Information to be given to Superintendent Ross, Borough Police Office, Newport, Isle of Wight, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 16. THOMAS BAIRSTOW or BASTOW, charged with forgery and stealing from railways, some years since a grocer's assistant, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, bald in front and top of head, very light hair or ljaht sandy at the sides, rather long sandy whiskers, shaved on the chin, mole on the cheek, red mark on the end of nose, cut over the left eye, and a native of Selby in Yorkshire; was tried at the Manchester City Sessions in April, 1859, for stealing .£ 95, and sentenced to 9 mouths imprisonment, and since supposed to have had 5 years penal servitude for utter- ing a forged Post Office Order; dressed in a grey mixture coat, top hat, and very bad boots. Is well known to the Manchester Police. He was convicted at Crewe on the 4th September, 1873, of stealing a Portmanteau and other va- luable property at Crewe Station, and sentenced to 4 months imprisonment in the name of DAVID BROWN. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Kehoe, Detective Office, Dale- street, Liverpool.— Bow- street, March 11. plexion, brown hair, and small light brown whiskers ; dressed in an old brown cloth coat, grey tweed trousers, and brown felt hat, nearly new. Attends races, selling racing cards, & c. The woman is about 30 years of age, short in stature, and full pale face ; had on a dark dress, dark bonnet, and a red and black plaid shawl, which she occasionally carries cn her arm. She allures young men into some lonely place, and then with the assistance of the man robs them. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Neill, Wantage, Berks.— Bovi- street, March 18. Stolen from the person at Lowestoft, on the 10th inst.: a gold hunter Watch, No. 25321, maker Charles Frodsham, 84, Strand, London ; also a gold albert Chain attached with Charm, with compass on one side, and blood- stone on the other. Information to be given at the Police Station, Lowestoft, Suffolk.— Bow- street, March. 16. Stolen from the person at Bugby Races, on the 5th inst.: a gold double- cased Watch, white dial, maker Marriott, Northampton; a curb pattern Chain, and a chased Locket attached. On the 6th instant : a silver Geneva Watch, No. 12690, and ' T. R. Ker' scratched on back ; an old- fashioned silver verge Watch, single case, maker Clowes; a silver hunting lever Watch, jewelled in 10 holes, engine- turned, ' Liverpool' engraved on plate. Information to be given to the Deputy Chief Constable, Rugby, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, March 13. Stolen from persons at the Grand National Hunt Races at Aylesbury, on the 3rd instant : A gold Geneva I unting Watch, maker Montine, Geneva, a gold Chain, link pattern, and three plated Keys attached. A gold i- hunting keyless lever Watch, with compsnsa- tion balance, polished case, with monogram ' H. L. B.' and crest— a cat, with motto—' A Cruce Salus,' in blue enamel on the back, the property of the Hon. H. Bourke. Stolen from a lady in Windsor, on the 7th instant: a green Purse, containing four Sovereigns ; 15s. 6d. in Silver ; a diamond Ring ; a carbuncle Ring ; and several scraps of Paper. Also from a gentleman : a gold Englisk lever Watch, No. 1870. They are mostly all silver, the stamp on articles of Swedish pattern with irms and motto, consists of an oval impress with ship in full sail, and bearing flag at stern, haviDg oval shield and quarterings underneath, and over the top the words ' Hazard zet Forward' Those articles stated to be marked with plain crest are stamped only with ship in full sail. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the recovery of the property and apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. During the night of the 11th instant, the Co- operative Stores at Pownallfee, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, was broken and entered, and stolen therein: about live pairs of men's elastic- side kid Boots, mock buttons and toecaps; a pair of women's elastic- side Boots, stitched; two pairs of ditto, rivetted ; one or two pairs of children's strong lace- up Boots ; about 15 lbs. of Cheese ; two or three loaves of white Sugar ; and two or three Hams, about 22 lbs. etch. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, County Police Station, Macclesfield, or to Sergeant Garner, Police Station, Wilmslow, Cheshire.— Bow- street, March 13. Charged with shopbreaking, at Manchester : CHARLES ROBBERY AND LARCENY PROM THE PERSON. Description of a man and woman, tramps, charged with having on the 7th instant, robbed Henry Payne, of East challow, near Wantage, Berks, of a Purse and 12s.: the man is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, rather fair com BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen by means of housebreaking, between 7 and 8 p. m. on the 3rd instant, from No. 3 Hut, ' W' Lines, South Camp, Aldershot,, the property of John Stanley Moorhouse, Esq.: a gold hunting Watch, No. 70233, white dial, ' J. S. M.' in blue enamel on outside case. Information to be given to Superintendent Stephenson, County Police Station, Aider- shot, Hants.— Bow- street, March 16. During the night of the 12th instant, Lilliebrook House, Charlton Kings, near Cheltenham, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : two large gold Rings, one white enamel round the outside ( with the name Griszel Cuming, born 1775,' and small glass in front con- taining hair, stamped ' Gold' inside rilg), the other with a blue stone in centre ; a small plain gold Ring, for hair out- side ; a silver gilt Beetle j i, wo silver Geneva Watches, with silver faces; and a quantity of Operculums ( sort of shells from Australia). Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, March 16. Stolen by means of housebreaking from Preston House, near Linlithgow, on the night of the 19th or mcrning of the 20th ultimo : 2 Tea Pots, one large and oval shaped, marked with plain crest on one side, plain part on opposite side, chased all round in shape of a basket of dowers ; one smaller steed, square at bottom, plain crest stamped on one side, and ' P. B. S.' on opposite side, chased flowering round about. 2 Cream Pots, one low round Swedish pattern, chased ight brown hair, fresh complexion, prominent nose, and has ost the first finger off one hand. Was sentenced to 6 years enal servitude on the 23rd of March, 1863, for burglary at Warwick, and has been convicted of several burglaries at irmingham. £ 5 reward and all expenses will be paid for H apprehension. Informaticn to be given to Chief Constable llin, Manchester.— Bow- street, March 13. On the night of the 5th instant, the dwelling- houses of M E. M. Grace, Mr. John Gastrell, and Miss Ruth Taylor, Tl Plain, aud Castle- street, Thornbury, was burglariously enured, and the following silver articles stolen from the hoi; of Mr. Grace : a small Butter Knife and Pickle Fork, notiarked ; nothing was stolen from either of the other hous. Information to be given to Superintendent Ellison, Chiflng Sodbury, or to Sergeant Arthur, Thornbury, Gloustershire.— Bow- street, March 11. HOLSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Tudhoe colliery, during the night of the 7th instant: a dark brown mare Pony, ubout 7 years old, hands high, rough coat, long inane and tail, lias a grey stripe about 2 inches wide down the lower side of each eye towards the mouth, supposed to be marked with the letter * J.' on the hoof of one of the fore feet. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunn, County Constabulary, Durham, Wilts.— flow- street, March H\ A warrant is issued for the apprehension of a man giving the uame of GRAHAM, supposed false, on a charge of stealing a Mare at Tunbridge Wells, on the 4th instant : he is about 60 years of age, 6 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fair com- plexion, little whiskers, grey hair, brushed up at sides to hide partial baldness ; dressed in black coat, red mixture trousers, and a high black hat; has the appearance of a retired coach- man. The mare is a bay, aged, 15 hands high, white hind fetlocks, forelegs used, carries her head and tail well up ; also a Saddle, a Bridle with white front, and a ring Martingale. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the recovery of the mare, and a further reward of £ 5 will be paid for the apprehension and convietion of the offender. Information to be given to Superintendent Wilson, Hereford, or to Mr. E. G. Edwards, Tillington, Herefordshire. — flow- street, March 13. The Horse and Trap stolen from Shrewsbury by a man, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 27th January last, has not yet been recovered. £ 5 reward will be given for his apprehension and recovery of the property by the owner, Mr. George Oswell, Coal Proprietor, Shrewsbury. Information to be given to Head Constable Davies, Shrews- bury, Salop.— Bow- street, March 13. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Wakefield, on or about the 4th instant, charged with embezzlement: THOMAS LAWTON, clerk, 36 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow com- plexion, black hair, bald on top of head, dark brown whiskers, rather thin, wore his beard, but no moustache, thick under lip, long visage, high cheek bones, and thin cheeks, a native of Yorkshire ; dressed in daik mixture cloth suit and black felt billycock hat. Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Chipstead, Borough Police Office, Wakefield, York, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., March 20. Stolen on the 16th instant, from Lewisham- road, Kent: 4 silver Tea Spoons— 3 plain and 1 engraved, a bee hive 1 Dessert Spoon and 1 Gravy Spoou. 12 large Forks. 9 small Ditto. 1 fish Knife. 9 Skewers— 2 with Prince of Wales's feathers at top, 2 with figures of three women, 2 with a crown, and 2 with arrows on top. 3 gold Scarf Pins— 1 has ' Thomas Webb, died 1824, age 29,' engraved on back ; 1 carbuncle, and 1 set with pink stone. 3 silver Watcher— 1 hunter and 2 verge. 1 diamond Ring, single stone, set in blue enamel. 2 dress RiBgs, lady's— 6 pearls and blue stone in centre, and 1 set with opals. 1 pair of Shoes. 2 pairs of children's Boot?. By a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair com- plexion and hair, downcast look, tattooed on arms ; dressed in black suit and billycock hat. — Metropolitan Police, R Division, Mat ch 20. Description of THOMAS BROWN, a journeyman baker, charged with embezzlement, at Headington, in the county of Oxford, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, light hair and fresh complexion ; dressed in light coloured clothes, and is a native of Deptford. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, Constabulary Station, Oxford, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 20; formation to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 16. Stolen from the Rose and Crown Hotel, Tring, about 9 p. m., on the 5th instant: a lady's dark brown Seal- skin Jacket, quilted inside with brown silk, the property of Mr. C. Morgan ; hi so a white Silk Tie. By a niau who slept in the house that night, and is about 40 to 45 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair, lighter whiskers, sallow complexion, rather sunketi eyes; dressed in a dark suit, aiul carried a small black baj. He left between 10 and 11 o'clock on the moining of the 6th inst. Informa- tion to be given to Inspector Goodyear, Great Berkhampstead, or to Sergeant Aldridge, Tring, Herts.— Bow- itreet, March 16. Absconded foom his lodgings at Rhymney iron works, on the 21st ultimo, charged with stealing a silver case Geneva Watch, engine- turned back, white china dial, steel hands with seconds, with about 9 inches of a black horse- hair Guard, aud a flat brass Key attached, the key has ' Faller, Rhymney,' on one side, and ' Watchmaker and Jeweller,' on the other, the property of George Long: THOS. FOSTER, or FOSTERN, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, proportionate figure, light complexion, slightly pockpitted, light hair, no whiskers ; dressed in a dark blue cloth jacket, single- breasted, pockets on hips and one outside left breast, grey cloth vest, buttoning up to throat, a half- worn blue pilot cloth trousers, military boots, ' T. H.' on inside tongue, a new black cloth cap, and a black and red plaid English flannel shirt; he says he is a [ native of Woolwich, and has served in the Royal Marine Artillery, also worked as a labourer in Abergookey coal- pits and Cwmaman collieries, Glamorganshire ; he was seen going into Dowlais on the 27th ultimo, and is now sup- posed to be a labourer in coal- pits in Glamorganshire. In- formation to be given to the Chief Constable of Monmouth shire, Abergavenny, or to Superintendent Fowler, Tredegar iron works, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 13. The two youths advertised in the Police Gazette of the 4th instant, charged with stealing £ 8 10s. from the dwelling- house of Jane Simpson, Eating- house Keeper, at Hornsea, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, on the 2nd instant, have been apprehended and remanded to the 14th instant. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, East Riding Con- stabulary Police Station, Leven.— Bow- street, Match 13. FRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of a man charged with obtaining £ 15 worth of Jewellery at Bootle, near Liverpool, on the 2nd instant, by a false pretence, giving a cheque on Baring and Co., bankers, Liverpool, where he had no account. He is about 37 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers, and moustache ( supposed to be false), has a gentle- manly appearance ; dressed in dark mixture cloth suit, black billycock hat, wears a large link pattern chain with a number of coins attached, and a snake pattern ring on little finger. A warrant has been issued for his apprehension. Informa- tion to be given to the Superintendent, County Police- office, Old Swan, near Liverpool. - Bow- street, March 13. Description of a man who gave the name of JOHN HENDERSON, who obtained by false pretences, on the 22nd of August last, £ 2, from Mr. A. Smedley, of the firm of o. ucaiey Dioiliers, or . helper, Iron founders : 45 years of age, 6 feet 1 inch high, brown eyes, hair turning grey, proportionate make ; dressed in a long dark topcoat, low- crowned black hat, and had a black leather bag with strap over the shoulder. He represented himself as engineer and agent for Massrs. Brasssy and Co., of Birkenhead, and gave an order for a mortar mill and portable engine. He is supposed to be the JOHN STEVENSON convicted at the Manchester Assizes 4^ years ago, of a similar offence ; he also answers the deeription of JOHN McKENZIE, who obtained eight trick loads of broken Stones, the property of the Clee Hill Ganite Company, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 6h instant. Stolen on the 18th or morning of the 19th instantat " Wrexham- street, Mold : a patent lever Watch, No. _ 9245^ ie property of Samuel Roberts. By a man, about 35 yea of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, round full lace, and whiiers all round face ; dressed in light cord trousers, rough ark cloth coat or jacket, billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; ates he has been in the Army. He pledged a white linen airt, on the 18th instant, in the name of John Smith, has ? ame on the collar ' A. Weldon,' No. 6490, which is supped to have been stolen. Description of ALBERT DAVIS, 3688 D, subject to police supervision for 7 years, who has failed to report himself as required by the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871 : 18 years of age, 5 feet 4£ inches high, light brown hair, wound mark on upper left arm, moles on belly and right side. Was con- victed at Stafford on the 4th March, 1873, and sentenced to 12 months for stealing a coat; he was liberated from Stafford County Prison on the 3rd instant, and failea to report himself to the police at Stoke- upon- Trent; he is subject to police supervision uutil March, 1881.
