DUBLIN, TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 1874. ENGLISH POLICE. £ 100 BEWARD. MURDER. WHEREAS, on the morning of the 18th January last, Joseph Grymes was found wilfully murdered in his cottage, situate in Bentham lane, in the parish of Purton, in the county of Wilts, by some person or persons unknown. A reward of £ 100 will be paid by the Government, to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers, and the Home Secre- tary will advise the graut of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Mr. North, Superinten- dent of Police, Swindon, or at the Chief Constable's Olfice, Nursteed, Devizes. ROBERT STERNE, Captain R. N., Chief Constable of Wilts. STOLEN by means of housebreaking, from Preston House, near Linlithgow, late on night of Thursday, 19th, or early on morning of Friday, 20th February, 1874:— 2 teapots— one largo and oval shaped, marked with plain crest on one side, plain part on opposite side, chased all round in shape of basket of flowers; one smaller sized, square at bottom, plain crest stamped on one side, and " P. B. S." on opposite side, chased flowering round about. 2 creampots— one low round Swedish pattern, chased in form of curtains with tassels; one Queen's pattern, with plain crest on side. 1 fish slice, Queen's pattern, with plain crest. 1 dozen large forks, Swedish pattern, with arms and motto stamped on handle. 18 table spoons, Swedish pattern— nine stamped on back of handle with end turned up, nine stamped in front with end turned down, with arms and motto. 10 dessert spoons, Swedish pattern, stamped with arms and motto. 11 tea spoons, plain, marked " A. S." on handle. 2 toddy ladles, plain, marked " P. B. S." on handle. 6 egg spoons, Queen's pattern, with plain crest on handle. 2 butter knives— one plain, marked " A. S."; one Queen's pattern, with plain crest in front of handle. 8 salt spoons— four plain, stamped with letter " S " ; four Queen's pattern, with plain crest on handle. 1 punch ladle, whalebone handle, Swedish pattern, with arms and motto stamped on it. 1 mustard pot, with glass fitting, and plain spoon. 3 fish knives, plated, blades chased on one side and plain on other side, handles chased on both sides. 3 fish forks, plated, handles chased on both sides. 2 small trays, plain, stamped " P. B. S." 1 larger tray, carved round edge, split or cracked about half an inch at one part of edge, not stamped. 2 gravy spoons. 1 sugar basin spoon, for grated sugar. 8 checse forks, Queen's pattern, with plain crest on handle. 2 sauce ladles, Queen's pattern, with plain crest on handle. 3 dessert knives plated. 3 dessert forks, plated. 1 soup ladle, plain. The articles stolen are mostly all silver. The stamp on articles of Swedish pattern, with arms and motto, consists of an oval impress with ship in full sail and bearing flag at stern, and having oval shield and qiiarterings underneath, and over the top the " Hazard zet Forward." Those articles stated tTbe marked with plain crest are stamped only with ship in full stii). Entrance effected by. breaking stone lintel at bottom of pantry window, and pulling out iron stanchion, afterwards piercing wooden shutter in two places, but having been unable to remove inside bar securing shutter, forced one side off the hinges. The parties must have come out by same window, as pantry door was locked, and they had got no farther. Two foot- prints of parties, with plain boots about 11 inches long, observed in shrubbery near house. Search and inquiry respectfully requested to be made at pawn offices, jewellers and watchmakers' shops, and other likely places, with a view to the recovery of the stolen property, and detection of the offenders. In- formation of recovery of property, or any trace obtained, to be forwarded to the Chief Constable of Linlithgow- shire, Linlithgow. ADAM COLQUHOUN, Chief Constable. DireomrTioN of Johnson Green, wanted for em- bezzlement of upwards of £ 23} the money of his em- ployer, for whom he was collector in this city, on the 9; h inst.:— He is about 28 years of age, 6 feet 9 inches high, sandy hair, small sandy moustache, fair complexion, remarkably bad teeth, weak eyes, gene- rally wears glasses; when last seen he wore a brown topcoat, light brown plaid trowsers, and high round hat. DESCRIPTION of Alexander Gordon, native of Tully- rawley, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 21st February, at Ballywatermoy, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Craigs, inflicted wounds on the head of John Treacy, of Dunmining, from the effects of which he died on the 24th:— Very smart active appearance, rather slender make, downcast look ; regular nose, dark comp exion, sharp face, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; shaved his cheeks ou a line with mouth, wore his beard from that round and under chin, no moustache; wore a cloth cap with rough edging, moleskin jacket, cord trowsers. The Coroner's Jury found him guilty of homicide, and a Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Ballymena. Ballymena, February 26, 1874. DESCRIPTION of John Williamson, native of Connor, county Down, who stands charged, on the oath of his sureties, with having absconded for the purpose of evading justice, he having been admitted to bail by order of the Court of Queen's Bench, conditioned for his appearance at the next Spring assizes to be held at Belfast, to stand his trial on a charge of firing a loaded revolver at Sub- Constables Roderick Kehoe, James Jordan, and John Hughes, on the 9th Octo- ber, 1873, in the barony of Upper Belfast, and parish of Shankill :— Surly appearance, dark sunken eyes ; regular nose, dark complexion, round shaven face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 85 years of age, brown hair; wore a silk hat, gray Ulster overcoat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; wears two gold rings on each hand, and a long gold chain recently purchased ; is a dealer in old brass and copper. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Lord Lieutenant, that, at the hour of. nine o'clock, on the evening of the 4th instant John Walsh, butcher, of Askeaton, in the county of Limerick, while standing at his own door, was fiifcd at and killed by some person or persons unknown : His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this murder, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the conviction of the person or persons who committed the same. By His Excellency's command, T. H. BURKE. The above reward will be paid, on conviction, by C. De Gernon. the Resident Magistrate at Rathkeale, to those who may become entitled to it uqder the conditions of this Proclamation. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Reale, native of Knockroe, who stands charged with having, on the 4th inst., in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Grean, fractured the skull of John Meehan, who died from the effects thereof on 6th inst. :— Very broad shoulders, slouching walk; blue eyes, long thin nose, swarthy complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet 1 inch high, about 24 years of age, brown hair; wore a low ierry hat, dark tweed trowsers, tweed vest. DESCRIPTION of Richard Hughes, native of Rose- garland, and Peter Laggan, alias Todd, native of Motallee, who stand charged with having, on the evening of the 12th February, 1874, in the barony of Loughinsholin, parish of Desertmartin, waylaid and violently assaulted John Trainor, of Drumsamney, from the effects of which he is since unable to leave his bed:— 1. Richard Hughes— Blue eyes ( shows a good deal of white), long nose, very fair complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 7 ftiches high, about 25 years of age, fair hair, fair whiskers and beard under chin no moustache; wore a black coat, corduroy trowsers, tweed sleeved vest; thin and young- looking; his cheeks are red and fresh- looking. 2. Peter Laggan, alias Todd— Stooped shoulders and awkward gait; gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair, small dark whiskers; wore a black tweed coat, cord trowsers, sleeved vest* Magherafelt, Feb. 19, 1874. Fitzgerald, the accountant of the National Bank at Castlebar, when returning from Newport, in the county of Mayo, was fired at and wounded by some person or persons at present unknown, and the cash- box, containing a large sum of money, the property of the Bank, was forcibly carried off by the said person or persons: His Excellency, for the better apprehending and bringing to justice the perpetrators of this outrage, is pleased hereby to offer a reward of ONE HUNDRED POUNDS to any person or persons who shall, within six months from the date hereof, give such information as shall lead to the arrest of the person or persons - who committed the same; and a reward of FIFTY POUNDS to any person who shall, within the same period, THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, MARCH 17, 1874. give such private information as shall lead to the same result.
