Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. O. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the names and Bescriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may bo addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING, At a few minutes past 6 o'clock on the evening of the 22nd December last, Francis Wynn was attacked by a man at present unknown, severely assaulted and knocked down, as he left Wrigley's eating- house iu West- street, in the borough of Oldham, and died on the 1st ultimo, from the effects of the injuries received. At an inquest held on the body on the 9th ultimo, the jury returned a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' against the man who inflicted those injuries. He is supposed to be an Irishman and a shoemaker, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, black whiskers; dressed in billycock hat, old greasy black clothes, aud old shoes. A reward of •£ 100 will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who shall give such information aud evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer, and the Home Secretary will advice the graut of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Chief Constable Hodgkinson, Town Hall, Oldham, Lan- cashire.— How- street, February 25. The man COOK, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 12th January, charged with others with a murderous assault on the gamekeepers at Haywood, n; ar Hereford, is still at large, and is supposed in the works r> n the borders of Mon- mouthshire, Breconshire, and Glamorganshire. A reward of .£ 50 will be paid on the apprehension aud conviction of Cook and the gang, on application to Superintendent Wilson, Hereford.— Bow- street, March 2. 5 or 6 inches high, proportionate make, fresh complexion, round face, brown hair, sandy whiskers turning grey, no moustache; dressed in dark mixture coat, dark striped vest and trousers, dark billycock hat, and lace- up shoes ; ho is a book- keeper, a native of Burnley, and is wanted at Bacup for a similar crime. A warrant has been issued for his appre- hension. Information to be given to Chief Constable Potts, Town Hall, Blackburn, Lancashire.— Bow- street, February 27. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from persons at the Grand National Hunt Paces at Aylesbury, on the 3rd instant : A gold " Geneva hunting Watch, maker Montine, Geneva, a gold Chain, link pattern, and three plated Keys attached. A gold Watch, bearing crest and initials ' H. B.' in blue enamel on back, the property of the Hon. H. Bourke. A small silver Watch, white dial, small black bands. A plain gold Geneva Watch, flat thick glass, initials on back, ' W. W. ( crossed) May, 1866.' A plain gold Watch, no maker's name. Information to be given to Superintendent Denson, Ayles- bury, Bucks.— Bow- street, March 6. Stolen from the person of William Kneeshaw, at Rose- dale West Side, on the 16th ultimo : a silver lever Watch, No. 10755, has push pin aud bow broken off, bears the following inscription ' W. W.' on centre of outer case, and on the back of inside case ' Presented to Mr. William Wilson, with a purse of gold value J10, by the Workman under his charge at the Derwent Iron Works, Consett, on leaving the above works, Dec., 1859.' Information to be given to Inspector Milner, North Riding Constabulary, Kirby Moor- side.—. Bow- street, March 4. Remanded at Leighton Buzzard, till the 3rd instant, a man of the followiug description, charged with stealing from the person : he is f- bout 32 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, whiskers shaved off, hair growing on chin, bald on top of head, scar on bridge of nose, and has a remarkable cast in right eve ; dressed iu dark clothes, and black billycock hat. Travels with fancy tobacco pipes in markets and fairs. Information to be given to Superintendent Clough, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.— Bow- street, March 2. stable Muttlebury, Central Police Office, Bath, Somerset.— — Bow- street, March 4. During the night of the 23rd instant, the dwelling- house of Mrs. Ann Taylor, Church- street, Tetbury, was burgla- riously entered and the following silver articles stolen therein : two Table Spoons, nine Tea, one Desert, and one Salt Spoon, and one pair of Sugar Tongs, some marked ' J. A. T.', and some ' A. T.' Information to be given to Ser- geant White, Tetbury, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, Feb. 27. FORGERY. THOMAS BAIRSTOW or BASTOW, charged with forgery and stealing from railways, some years since a grocer's assistant, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, bald in front and top of head, v « ry light hair or light sandy at the sides, rather long sandy whiskers, shaved on the chiu, mole on the cheek, led mark on the end of nose, cut over the left eye, and a native of Selby in Yorkshire; was tried at the Manchester City Sessions iu April, 1859, for stealing £ 95, and sentenced to 9 months imprisonment, and since supposed to have had 5 years penal servitude for utter- ing a forged Post Office Order; dressed in a grey mixture coat, top hat, and very bad boots. Is well known to the Manchester Police. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Kehoe, Detective Office, Dale- street, Liverpool— Bow- street, March 2. Description of a man charged with uttering forged cheques at Southampton, Brighton, Bath, Southsea, and London, giving the names of EDWARD GAHAN, alias E. H. GRAHAM, alias CAPTAIN WARD, alias R. H. de la POER BERESFORD, late a bank clerk at Quebec, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, brown hair, light brown moustache, no whiskers, fair complexion, proportionate build; dressed in light grey striped trousers, blue diagonal cloth coat and vest, dark brown overcoat, ain- 1 round felt hat; had a brown portmanteau, empty, and hat box with lock broken. The cheques are drawn on Messrs. Cox and Co., of CraigV court, and are uttered on hotel keepers and chemists. Gahan frequents the best hotels and seeks the acquaintance of mili- tary officers, and represents himself to be a cousin of Captain Bannister, the Governor of Maidstone Gaol; he was last seen in London on the 23rd instant, at the Great Western Railway. During the night of the 27th ultimo, the dwelling- houses of Mr. George Ricketts and Mr. Absolom Allen, High- street, Wotton- uuder- Edge, were burglariously entered, aud the following articles stolen therein : two Tea Spoons, marked iu monogram ' P. A. A.,' three ditto, ' H. P. A.,' an old- fashioned Table Spoon, ' E. P. A.,' a Mustard Spoon, ' M. C.,' a Tea Spoon, ' G. P. R.,' and a pair of Sugar Tongs, plain, not marked— all silver; and a dark mixture double- breasted Topcoat, with black velvet collar and plain buttons. Sup- posed by three men of the following description : One about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, light com- plexion, sandy hair, tuft on chin ; dressed in dark cap with peak, strap, and gilt button, dark monkey jacket, mixture trousers, and ( supposed) elastic- side boots. I Another about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 iuches high, thin build, dark hair and complexion, no whiskers; dressed in | sugarloaf black bowler hat, and dark coat with rough collar. The other about 27 years of aize, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, rather stout, light brown hair and whiskers, fresh complexion; dressed in dark soft hat with wire round the brim, light mixture striped coat and waistcoat, Bedford cord trousers with a square patch on the knee, and heavy nailed shoes, with tips. Information to be given to Inspector Welch, Solihull, Warwick.— Bow- street, March 4. Stolen from Butleigh Court on the night of the 25th nit, the property of R. Neville Greenville, Esq., M. P.: a dark brown Cart Horse filly, foaled last May, about 13 or 14 handa high, with a white face aud one or more white feet; also a bay Pony Colt, with dark points, standing about 12 hands high. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Glastonbury, Somersetshire.— Bow- street, March 2. Stolen from Kensworth Lynch Farm, in the county of Hertford, on the evening of the 18th ultimo : a red Heifer, just taken away from her calf, full of milk. A reward will be given by the owner, Mr. George Woodham, to any person who will given such information as will lead to the recovery of the Heifer and the conviction of the thief. It is supposed that the Heifer has been stolen for its milk. Stolen at Walsall on the 24th ultimo : a black Horse, 14i hands high, aged, low condition, hind fetlocks white, hair rubbed off hocks aud head. By a man, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin, fresh complexion, light brown hair; dressed in a black hard billycock bat, light brown overcoat, much worn, woolleu cord trousers, tightly made, and old shoes. £ 2 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender aud recovery of the ho se. Absconded on the 27th ultimo, from Oxford- street, charged with stealing £ 20 : a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair complexion, dark curly hair, no whiskers ; dressed in dark clothes, grey overcoat, and round hat.— — Metropolitan Police, E Division, March 6. Absconded from Darwen, on the 27th ultimo, charged with stealing £ 180 : a book keeper named WM. WILSON, about 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 iuches high, black hair, dark eyes and whiskers, pale looking, aud bad side teeth ; dressed iu black cloth trousers, with white stripe, black cloth coat and vest, blue pilot overcoat, and Duke of Sutherland hat; a native of Ramsbottom, Lancashire, previously convicted, and supposed to be from Bury or Radcliffe. A reward of £ 10 will be paid ou his apprehension. Absconded on the 27th ultimo, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 2, the money's of his employer : a youth, 19 yrs. of age, pale complexiou, brown hair, thin ; dressed in black cloth coat, brown vest, cord trousers, lace boots, brown cloth cap, and white muffler.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, March 6. Charged on a warrant, with a man committed for trial with larceny: GEO. TAYLOR, alias JOHN SMITH, a licence- holder, Office No. 7843, 22 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, mole inside right arm, scars on forehead, lost an upper front tooth ; dressed in dark blue monkey jacket, and round felt hat.— Metropolitan Police, W Division, March 6. Description of CHARLES HENRY GENTRY, who absconded from Reading, on the 23rd January last, charged with embezzliug various sums of Money, received for and on account of Samuel Gostage, his master : he is an upholsterer, a native of Braiutree, Essex, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, long „ hin face, ami rather long beard. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Purchase, Borough Police Station, Reading, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, March 6. Absconded from the borough of Middlesborough, on the morning of the 5th instant: a servant girl, who gave the name of ANN ARMSTRONG, charged with stealing: two Sovereigns; a new brown French merino Dress, trimmed with black velvet; a large grey shawl, with yellow spots iu it; a Neckerchief, puce and white ; and a blaak straw Hat, trimmed with green and black velvet. She is about 18 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, full face, brown hair, stout make, and has a burn mark on right arm which extends to the breast; supposed dressed in the stolen clothes. Information to be giveu to Chief Con- stable Saggerson, Middlesborough, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for her arrest.— Bow- street, March 6. 72 P O L I C E GAZETTE. March 6. Stolen from the house of Benjamin Balls, Chapel- street, Dawley, on the 3rd iustant: a white rjuud tlaunel Jacket, lined with red and black flannel, vflrite bone buttons, has been torn on right elbow aud darned. By a man whe had been lodging in the house about ft fortnight, and gave the name of JOHN JONES : a collior, about 10 vears of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, no whiskers ; dressed < in black velvet jacket, dark grey vest aud trousers with black stripe, black cloth cap, and clogs with watertight tops aud brass eyelet- holes. Information to be given to Chief Superinten- dent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Simcox, Dawley, Salop.— Bow- street, March 6. Absconded on the 2nd instant, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 307 14s. 8d., in Bank Notes, Gold, & c., the monies of his employers Messrs. Barrow, Squire, & Co., Bush- iane, Cannon- street: WLLLLAM SISSONS, a clerk, late of No. 14, Grace field- terrace, Peckham- grove, 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, straight dark hair, bright dark eyes, ruddy complexion, thin face, no whiskers, slight build, blushes when spoken to, carries his bead rather ou one side ; dressed in dark blue overcoat, and billycook hat; carried a handsome railway rug, grey one side, and black and white stripes the other. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement: ALFRED JOHN BIDDLECOMB, late of 52, Marchmont- street, Brunswick- square, about 26 years of age, about 5 feet 7 ins. high, stout build, square set, light brown hair ( thin on top of headt, beard, and moustache, takes snuff, and frequents billiard rooms ; respectably dressed. information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow street, March 4. Two youths of the following description are charged with stealing two brown leather Purses containing about _£ S 10s. in Gold and Silver, on the morning of the 2ud inst., from Mrs. Jane Simpson, eating- house keeper, at Hornsea, in the East Riding of York, where they had lodged the two previous nights: One about 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh com- plexion, dark brown hair, stout make; dressed in a short bhie cloth jacket, black cloth trousers, wore an elastic belt round his waist; striped - woollen shirt, new cloth cap with peak, and Wellington boots ; stated that he was a sailor, and belonged to the ship Audacious. The other is about 16 years of age, 5 feet high, fresh com- plexion, light brown hair ; dressed iu brown cloth suit, black stiff felt hat, and side- spring boots; stated he was a brick- layer. Information to be given to Superintendent Wright, East Riding Constabu lary Police, Station, Leveu, near Beverley.— Bow- street, March 4. Description of JAMES SLADE, watchmaker, native of Windsor, charged with stealing a Watch ( since recovered): about 27 years of age, about 5 feet high, slight, pale com- plexion, light brown hair, no beard or moustache ; usually dresses in black clothes, and deerstalker hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Hayes, Windsor, Berks, who holds a war rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, March 2. Stolen on the 25th ultimo, from a brick yard at Barrow Haven : two Tools, one since recovered, the other is a wooden Clay Tool, shod with steel, which is slightly cracked at the bottom, marked with two small nicks on front of shaft near hilt. By a man, about 45 years of age, near 6 feet higb, small dark whiskers under chin ; dressed like a navvy, aud was traced to Hidi on fame night, and is supposed to be making for the North. Information to be giveu to Super- intendent Fuller, Barton- on- Humber, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, March 2. Stolen from the Commercial Room at the George Hotel, Malmesbury, on the evening of the 24th ultimo, the property of Mr. John Sargent Banks, the landlord : an electro- plated 7- bottle Cruet- Stand, and a small old- fashioned silver Tea Spoon, used as a mustard spoon. The Bottles have since been found on the tnrnpike- road, leading from Malmesbury to Crndwell, the top of the Mustard Bottle twisted off. By a man about 46 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slight make, brown hair, light brown whiskers, and Blight mous- tache ; dressed in a black cloth coat, dark waistcoat and trousers, soft black felt hat, red scarf round his neck, and of respectable appearance. Was traced to Cirencester. He left Murphy's Lodging- house, at Cirencester, on the morning of the 26th ultimo, stealing a Coat, the property of another lodger, and left his own. Stated that he was going to try for work at Swindon, and carried a small bundle tied up in a ltd handkerchief. Information to be given to Superintendent Woodman, Wilts Constabulary, Malmesbury. — Bow- street, M- ar< M 2. cut short, m few dark short whiskers, a email dark moustache, walks badly, having bad corns on both feet; has been a soldier in the 2nd Dragoons, and is supposed to have gone to his father iu London, who, he has stated, l'lves in Kenning- ton- lane, near the Oval. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton, Sussex.— Bow- st., March 6. FRAUDS A3JD AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of a man who gave the name of JOHN McKENZIE ( supposed fictitious), who obtained by false pretences at Ludlow, on the 16th ultimo, eight truck loads of broken Stones, the property of the Clee Hill Granite Com- pany : about 45 years of age, ( i feet high, hair and whiskers turning grey ; wore a black necktie, grey suit of clothes, hard round hat, and a long ulster coat, with bauds of a dark brown colour; he is of gentlemanly address, and well acquainted with railway work, he represented himself to be agent for Messrs. Brogden and Sons, of No. 5, Queen's- square, West- minster, which is false, left Ludlow by mail traiu the same night for Shrewsbury, and frequents hotels aud first class houses. A warraut has been issued for his apprehension. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Brookes, Ludlow, Salop.— Bow- st'eet, March 6. At Midnight on the 5th ultimo, two male Infants, about six weeks of age, aud i. upputed to be twins, were found alive in a field near Orrell- bridge, Orrell- lane, Walton- on- the- Hill, near Li verpool; oue of the children has light hair, and was dressed in a. white flannal dress, email print ditto, and a piece of grey alpaca ; the other has dark hair, and was dressed in white flannel dress, white calico ditto, old white calico night dress, and a piece of pink print; both have blue eyes. £ 1 reward will be paid by the Guardians of the West Derby union for such information as will lead to the apprehension and oonviction of the person or persons who so abandoned the children. Description of SAMUJEL LYNN HANN, charged on a warrant wufc obtaining £?, 13s. 6d. from a Brighton shop- keeper by meaaa of faUe cheques : about 27 yearn of age, about G feet high, dark complexion, full round face, dark hair MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Charged with violently assaulting Daniel Cox, of 21, Crown- street, Fulham : PATRICK CANE, 19 years of age, h feet 9 inches high, dark eyes and complexion, and brown hair ; aud JEREMIAH DANAHA, 17 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark hair, eyes, and complexion : both dressed in black pilot cloth jackets, cord trousers, billycock bats, and lace boots. They are gas- factory labourers, the former resided at 21, and the latter at 11, Crown- street, Fulhani. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, March 6. Escaped from the Police Station, Trowbridge, on the 3rd instant: WILLIAM ANDREWS, about 44 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion, weak eyes, thin whiskers, slight moustache ; dressed in long dark coat, cord trousers, and soft billycock hat; he is a kitchen gardener, and is charged with picking peckets, with his wife, Elizabeth, and two daughcers, Bridget and Mary Ann, who are in custody on the same charge. Information to be given to Superintendent Harris, Police Station, Trowbridge, Wilts.— Bow- street, March Missing from his home at Hazlehurst Farm, HoTdle, on the 11th ultimo, was seen at 6 p. m. same day atChristchurch, and has not since been heard of : GEORGE BOYES, 38 yr. s. of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair, slightly bald, dark whiskers meeting under chin, fair complexion, scar on left thumb ; dressed in dark coat, light trousers and vest, strong boots, and hard felt hat. He was in low spirits, and it is feared some ill has befallen him. Information to be given to . Remanded until the 8th instant, charged with robbery with violence, at Wisbeach : EDWARD KING, late of Middlesborough and Stockton- on- Tees, & c., a labourer, 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes, aud nose rather crooked on left side. The following is a description of two men who were traced to Beverley, East Ruling, with, the Harness- and Cart in their possession, and left them in a field near Beverley, where they have since been recovered': One about 2ft years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, stout and smart build, full face, fresh complexion, dark browu hair, aud no wniskers ; dressed in dark grey tweed shooting coat and vest, dark cord tight- fitting trousers, with raised seams, dark brown cap, with rough sides turned up, and plain strong lace- up boots. The other is about 19 years of age, about 5 feet high, pro- portionate build, dark complexion, dark curly hair, and no whiskers; dressed in light grey or drab overcoat, dark Bbooting coat under, no waistcoat, tight- fitting cord trousers, with raised seams, biack cloth cap, turned up at sides, with peak, aud plain strong lace- up. boots. They speak the south country dialect, and are rather of the gipsy tribe. Description of a licence- holder named WILLIAM JOHNSON, who has failed to report himself at the Loft- house Police Station, as required by the Prevention of Crimes Act: he is 31 years of age, 5 feet 5£ inches high, browu hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion, has a burn mark under left arm, and cut on right cheek, and is a labourer. He was convicted on the 29th of July, 1869, at York Assizes, and sentenced to 5 years penal servitude, and was discharged from Portland Prison on the 16th of August, 1873. Descriptien of WILLIAM HEAVENS, H 6306, who was convicted at Hull on the 3rd July, 1873, and sentenced to 6 months and 6 years police supervision, who has failed to report himself upon being transferred : 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, brown hair, pockmarked, bracelets and crossed flags on each wrist ; has been once previously convicted of felony, aud three times for vagrancy and drunkenness.
