XnE Police Gazette, OR HUE- AHlKatT. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry, are to be transmitted under cover addressed to the Inspector- General of Constabulary. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspcctor- General. As the Law ( 48 Geo. 3, c. 140, s. 44,) only permits the insertion of Notices respecting Felonies, no other description of Notice can be inserted in the Hue- and- Cry. DUBLIN, FRIDAY, JANUARY 23, 1874. SCOTTISH POLICE. The after described two men, who are brothers, are strongly suspected of being concerned in the jewel robbery here on the 6th or 7th December, 1873, and, as they are supposed to be in possession of part of the stolen jewellery, Police officers are requested to use every exertion in tracing out their where- abouts, and, should any of the stolen pr> perty be traced to the possession of either of them, apprehend, detain, and communicate with the subscriber:— Peter Graham— 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches in height, slender make, face thin and pale, hair black, short thin black whiskers, marks of old sores on neck behind jaw, and a native of England. Michael Graham— private soldier in the Royal Artillery, presently stationed in Limerick — see " Police Gazette " of 5th Janvmry current, where he is returned as a deserter. He was in Dundee on furlough at the time of the robbery. He is years of age, 5 feet 6g inches in height, hair black, eyes hazel, scar on back of left leg, born in New- castle- on- Tyne. DESCRIPTION of John Williamson, native of Connor, county Down, who stands charged, on the oath of his sureties, with having absconded for the purpose of evading justice, he having been admitted to bail by order of the Court of Queen's Bench, conditioned for his appearance at the next Spring assizes to be held at Belfast, to stand his trial on " a charge of firing a loaded revolver at Sub- Constables Roderick Kehoe, James Jordan, and John Hughes, on-'- th- e- 9th.- Octo- ber. 1873, in the barony of Upper Belfast, and parish ofShankill:— Surly appearance, dark sunken eyes ; regular nose, dark complexion, round shaven face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, brown hair; wore a silk ha*, gray Ulster overcoat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; wears two gold rings on each hand, and a long gold chain recently purchased ; is a dealer in old brass and copper. DESCRIPTION of William Mahony, native of Barna- goulane, near Skibbereen, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 5th or morning of 6th January, 1874, in the barony of West Carbery, E. D., parish of Abbeystrowry, stolen 5 sheep ( whi^ h have been recovered), the property of his father, Luke Mahony, of Barnagoulane :— Mark on left cheek- bone as if from recent fall; whiskers and beard recently shaved off; blue eyes, short thick nose, fair complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of age, light brown hair; wore a round hat, tweed frock coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; much given to drink. DESCRIPTION of a person, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th January, at Kiskame, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Kilmeen, arms in his possession, that being a proclaimed district, and effecting his escape from the custody of the Boherbue Police, and taking on him a p » ir of handcuffs :— Thick- set man, short neck, high cheekbones; brown eyes, cocked nose, dark complexion, stout make, 5 feet inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore an old dark blue frock coat, old brown trowsers, old highlow shoes, ragged appearance ; calls himself " Rory of the hills." DESCRIPTION of Cornelius Driscoll, native of Ballinlough, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 20th inst., in the barony of East Car- 1 bery, West Division, parish of Kilmacabea, struck Denis Driscoll a blow of a stick on the head, from the effects of which he died on the following morn- ing :— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, rather long face, stout make, 5 feet 7^ inches high, about 35 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a soft round hat, blue coat and trowsers ; smart intelligent appearance; has a very keen look about the eyes, and has the appearance of a man of determination ;' his hair hangs about the sides of his head as if recently wetted, it is long and straight and rather thin. DESCRIPTION of the under- named boy, who, on the 18th January, 1874, absconded from the St. Joseph's Industrial School at Tralee:— Thomas Moriarty, No. 101, 13 years of age, 4 feet 3 inches high, stout make, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, short nose, large mouth, stern visage, a slight cut under left eye ; formerly belonged to Tralee; his parents reside at Strand- road, Tralee. The school dress, all with Industrial School stamp, consists of— black frieze jacket, woollen stockings Blucher boots. This boy is likely to be found with a tradesman named Roche, a tailor, who lives in or near Abbey- feale, county Limerick. The Manager of the Industrial School will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with 10 « Office of Inspector of Reformatory and Industrial Schools, Dublin Castle, January 22, 1874. DESCRIPTION of Philip Purcell and Thomas Purcell, ( brothers,) natives of Highpark, who stand charged with having, on the 12th of January, 1874, in the barony of Smallcounty, parish of Cahircorney, assaulted Timothy Corbett, and struck him with a stone on his head, thereby causing a fracture of the skull, from the effects of which he now lies danger- ously ill in the county Infirmary :— 1. Philip Purcell— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair ; wore a jerry hat, dark frieze coat, cord trowsers, dark tweed vest. 2. Thomas Purcell— Dark eyes, short thick nose, dark complexion, short face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a jerry hat, dark frieze coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. DESCRIPTION of William Brown, native of Cappa- more, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd of October, 1873, in the barony of Owneybeg, parish of Tuogh, grievously assaulted James Connors, who died from th* effects on 6th December, 1873 :— Thick heavy lips; gray eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 61 inches high, about 70 years of age, gray hair; wore a hat, friezo coat, knee breeches and tweed vest Cappamore, Dec. 10, 1873. DESCRIPTION of William Burke, native of Killura, who stands charged with having, on the 26th o' November, 1873, in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Tuogh, assaulted his cousin William Burke, thereby placing his life in danger:— Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 leet 7£ inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a woollen cap, frieze coat, « ord trowsers, tweed vest. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Reale, native of Knockroe, who stands charged with having, on the 4th inst., in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Grean, fractured the skull of John Meehan, who died from the effects thereof on 6th inst. :— Very broad shoulders, slouching walk; blue eyes, long thin nose, swarthy complexion, long face, medium make, 6 feet 1 inch high, about 24 years of age, brown hair; wore a low jerry hat, dark tweed trowsers, tweed vest. DESCRIPTION of Alick Hanna, supposed to be one of a party who fired at and robbed Mr. Fitzgerald, of the National Bank, on 6th instant:— Stout set, black hair, small black whiskers and moustache, 5 feet 8, or 9 inches high, 26 or 27 years of age ; dressed in black clothes, wore a large gold coloured guard chain round his neck attached to a pretty large silver watch, black cloth overcoat coming to near his knees, a short slit in tail behind, black felt hat of softish appearance, large scarf composed of lamb's wool and of many colours round his neck with one knot; breast of his vest very much open; his overcoat was also open in the breast, and displayed the scarf a con- siderable distance towards the waist, the ends of the scarf composed of many colours. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Frain, native of Kilgariff, who stands charged with having, on the 12th No- vember, 1873, at Kilgariff, in the barony of Costello, parish of Kilebeagh, grievously assaulted Patrick M'Donogh, by striking him with a stone on the head, thereby endangering his life :— Short thick nose, short neck, high cheek bones ; mark of an old cut on forehead ; rather broad face ; brown eyes, red complexion, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a round hat or cap, dark frieze frock coat, cord trowsers, frieze vest. DESCRIPTION of a cow and calf fouflPSri the pos- session of a boy, on the night of the 13th instant, at roSenallis, parish of Rosenallis, barony of Tinna- hinch, supposed to be stolen, viz.:— 1. A three- year- old stripper, well bred, almost red colour, mixture of red and white under belly; white spot on right shoulder, right ribs, right hip, right- hough, and right knee ; white spot on left shoulder, left hip, left hough, and left flank; small white spot on forehead, near right horn ; small bit off right ear; horns rather small and looped— the right slightly cocked; ap- parent marks of three cuts on each hip, thehairhaving the appearance of having been tampered with ; value for about £ 11. 2. A calf, blood- red colour, with a little white on belly; good breed; about 10 months old; value for £ 5. These cattte were previously seen on the lands of a man named John Murray, who has been committed for sheep- sftiaWtig,' Sft^ fwnof on yesterday, claimed them as his property; but the Magistrates refused ordering their restoration.
