C. %* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the names and Descriptions of Deserters And Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. the 2nd instant: he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, dark complexion, large c- arse features, point of nose turned upwards, very dark hair, cut short, no whiskers, rather bow legged ; dressed when last seen iu a black cloth coat, pockets on hips, grey trousers, lace- up boots, and soft billycock hat. Further information respecting the Watch stolen from Mr. Joseph Bradley, at Wellington, Salop, Railway Statiou, ou the 27th ultimo, and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 29th ultimo, and following dates, the number of the watch is 3G734. £ 1 reward will be paid by Mr. Bradley, on the recovery of the watch, aud conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, Salop.— limn- street, January 16. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Absconded from Abertillery, on or about the 10th Nov. last, cliarged on a warrant with manslau^ nter : THOMAS WEEKS, alias DUMMEY, a collier, and a native of High Littleton, Somersetshire, 24 or 25 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches or G feet high, Btout made, sallow com- plexion, dark brown hair, aud small whiskers, is a little round BURGLARY AND HOU^ E BREAKING. During the night of the 14tli instant or morning of the 15th, the office of Messrs. Thomas Williams and Co., timber merchants, Neath, were broken and entered, the whole of the drawers, & c., in the office rausacked, aud a new pair of long water- tight Boots ; a blue cloth Overccat, velvet collar, bound with broad braid, torn under pockets, roughly sewn, aud single- breasted ; and three siugle- breasted Jackets, one dark cloth, braided round sleeves, one dark melton, wide braid all round, one dark brown, of slight material, were stolen therefrom. A chisel, such as is used by ship carpenters, was left behind, which had beeu used in an attempt to force opon an iron safe. The office of Mr. G. J. May, chain manufacturer, Neath, was also entered, but nothing has beeu missed. Information to be given to Head Constable Phillips, Neath, Glamorganshire.— Bow- street, January 21. hat, generally wears a muffler round the neck ; he has been working at Maeateg, Glamorganshire, where- he is- well known to the Police; a man named GEORGE ADAMS, who was iu company with him at the time of the robbery, has been apprehended and sentenced to 2 months imprisonment at the last quarter sessions for the above offence. Information to be given to Superintendent Deggan, Police Office, Frome, or to Sergeant Whitting, Police Station, Kilmersdon, Radstock, Bath, Somerset, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bom- street, January 16. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from Bath, cn the 15th instant : a chestnut Mare, 15 hands 2 inches high, white star on forehead, has been fired on hocks, three white fetlocks, rat tail, fast trotter ; a Saddle, by Russell, Bath ; a double rein Bridle, with nose baud. The norse was hired for a ride by a man who gave the name of EVANS, of the following description : about 40 years of age, short, stout, fair complexiou, whiskers under chin ; dressed iu a high hat, aBd dark mixture orercoat, and earrieu a small paper parcel. £ 5 pounds reward will be paid by the owner of the horse for its recovery, and for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offeuder. Information to be given to Head Constable Muttlebury, Central Police Office, Bath.— Baw- st., Jon. 33. Stolen off Kerry Hill, on the 7th instant : fonr brown mare Ponies, with long switch tails, aud unshod, two of them 7 years old, and in foal, the other two rising 3 years old. They were seen near Montgomery on the 9th instaut. Information to be given at the Chief Constable's Office, New- town, Montgomeryshire.— Bom- street, January 19. Description of a tramp, supposed to have murdered Joseph Grimes, who wits living by himself in a lone cottage, at Bentham- lane, Purton, on the 17th iustant : he is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, long dark hair and whiskers, rather round features ; dressed in an old long dark heavy travelling cap, the flaps falling down at the sides, like the broken brim of a bowler, dark vest, with two buttons off, cord trousers, appeared to have been washed several times, and mended at bottom of iuside of left leg, old shoes, - the left one cut in the front of upper, and old black billycock hat, and wore a common scarf of red, white, and black colours; had a canvas bag, and a piece of old American cloth, which lie carried writing paper iu ; left Swindon on the morning of the 15th inst., for Wootton Bassett, and stated he was making his way to the black country. N,, Chief Constable of Wilts, 6r to Super- intendent North, Swindon, Wilts.— Bow- street, Jan. 23. 12 plated Dessert Knives and Forks, pearl haudles. 12 Fish Knives, plated, a dolphin engraved on each blade. 6 ditto, various patterns. 1 plated oval Cake Basket, with rouud twisted haudle. 1 silver Sugar Basin, withoat glass, and Sugar Sifter, marked ' J. F,' iu garter. 1 pair silver Sugar Ton^ s, marked ' J. F.' 2 plated Entree Dishes and Covers, without haudles, marked ' 3' aud ' 4.' FORGERY. On the 17th ins'aut two Post- office Orders for 3s. and 2: respectively were obtained at Frodsham, iu favour of two tradesmen at Chester. The same day, before the letter of advice could reach Chester, a man of the following descrip- tion presented the orders, with forged letters, asking for goods. It was afterwards fouud that the orders had been altered to £ 5 3s. 0d., and £' 2 2s. Od. respectively : he called himself JOHN FOX, about 30 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, thin straggling beard, rather florid complexion ; dressed in a dark tweed double breasted shooting coat, and low black felt hat, with flat rinr. He obtained the followmg Goods : a new silver lever Watch, No. 56,278, plain case, with shield in garter, gold hinges, maker Butt, Chester, private mark ' £ c. c. y.'; and a new blue pilot nap Overcoat, velvet collar, grey tweed lining, and cloth buttons, which he is probably now wearing. Description of JOHN BRIGHTON, alias THE MILK- BOY, charged with embezzling £ 2 2s. and £ Z 10s., the moneys of Mr. George Gowing, farmer, Trowse, on the 9th instant: about 45 years of age, 5 feot 6 iuches high, slender build, light brown hair, turning grey, clean shaved, aud sunken checks. Is well known in most of the principal towns in England as a pedestrian ; ho is supposed to have gone to Yorkshire or Lancashire, and may seek employment as barman. Information to be given to Sergeant Hudson, County Police Station, Norwich, who holds a warrant for his apprehensiou.— Boio- street, January 21. Absconded on the 16th instant, from Quebec- street, Marylebone, charged with stealing £ 27 in Gold aud Silver. A youth, 16 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair com- plexion, aud light hair ; dressed in browu coat aud trousers, black stripe at sides, and black billycock hat.— Metropolitan Police, D Division, January 21. Absconded on the 16th instant, from the London and County Bank, St. Alban's, charged on a warrant with stealing, £ 700 in Gold, which he carried away in a black bag : JOHN BARNET, about 27. years of age, 5 feet 94 iuches high, dark thick hair, rather sallow complexion, thiu face, high cheek bones, slight beard and moustache, and speaks with a strong Scoteh aceent; dressed in brown overcoat, velvet collar, black cloth trousers, aud black deerstalker hat. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Poiiee, Detective Department, 26, Old Jewry, London, E. C.— Bow- street, Jrtnuay >/ 21. Further information respecting JOHN BOYD, adver- tised in the Police Gazette of the 12th instant, who committed the robbery at the ' Grasshopper' public- house, Maidstone, on the 9th inst., when he stole, in addition to the property already described, a Shilling with a hole iu it, a couuterfeit ditto, and two foreign silver Coins ( halfpenny and penny pieces): he enlisted as a Sapper iu 39th Company, Royal Engineers, No. 12322, at Westminster, on the 13th No- vember last, and joined at Chatham on the 13th, from which place he deserted on the 4th instant. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Police Office, Maidstone, Kent. — Bow- street, January 19. Description of a woman giving the name of MARY Alias ANN WILLIAMS, states she is a native of Chester, charged with larceny from a lodging- house at Mold : she is about 35 years of age, tall, well made, dark brown loose curley hair, lost two of her upper front teeth, large nose ; dressed in light skirt with dark body, no bonnet or hat, gene- rally wears an old brewn shawl over her head. Left on the 13th instant. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Adams, or to the Inspector, Mold, Flintshire.— Boiv- ctreet, January 15. Stolen from a hotel in Chesterfield : two Soup Ladles, plain pattern ; and two Table Spoons, plain pattern, one has the letters ' G. S.' on back of handle, which turns upwards, and the other may be marked ' 11. T. M.' or some other letters, all silver. By a man ( who left without paying his bill) from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, bushy beard and whiskers, rather sandy, broad shouldered, and rather bow- legged ; dressed in a long light overcoat, light trousers, black under coat, and silk hat ; he carries an umbrella and black leather bag. Information to be given to Head Constable Horne, Chesterfield, Derbyshire.— How- street, January 19. Absconded on the 14th instant, charged with stealing £ 9 14s. 3d., the moneys of his master : a youth, 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, sallow complexion, black hair, da » fc brown eyes, and pockmarked ; dressed in dark mixture coat and trousers, black cap with French peak, and side- spring boots.— Metropolitan Police, HlDivision, January 19. Absconded on the 14th instant, from Woolwich, charged with stealiug £ 7 Os. 3d. the moneys of Her Majesty's Government : a man 23 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, and second toe of both feet contracted ; dressed in regimentals. — Metropolitan Police, R Division, January 19. Abscouded from Warminster, Wilts, at 2 p. m. on the 12th instant: a ytung woman, 21 years of age, short and stout, round full features, and light hair; dressed in' grey Knsey dress, black jacket, with fringe behind, black velvet bat, with small black feather, uew kid boots, and carrying a small black leather bag ; she is charged with stealing .£ 20 in Gold and Silver. Is likely to try to emigrate. Information to be given to Superintendent Abbott, Warminster, Wilts. — Boiv- street, January 16. Description of JAMES ALDRED, who absconded on the 5th instant, charged ou a warrant with embezzlement: about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, light curly hair, parted down the middle, light ruddy complexion, and of smart appearance. Information to be given to Chief Constable Palin, Detective Department, Town Hall, Man- chester.— Bow- street, January 16. A warrant is issued against SAMUEL BRAHAM, a jeweller, late of Brighton, charged with stealiug £ 600 worth of Jewellery : he is 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache, ( pointed, inclined to saudy); dressed respectable. Information to be given to'Superinten- dent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland Yard, London, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Metropolitan Police, January 16. No. 1676, who has failed to report himself at Donhead, St. Mary, ' Wilts, on the 11th instant, and has changed his residence, without notifying such change, as required by the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871 : a labourer, 30 years of age, 5 feet high, fresli complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, mole under left breast, two nsoles on back, and sear on left hand. He was convicted at Dorchester, 31st December, 1867, of stealing wearing apparel, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude ; was discharged from Portsmouth Convict Prison, 29th July, 1873, on license. He left the above locality about the 24th ultimo, in company with a woman, and they said they were going to London. HENRY LOMAS, about 43 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, grey eyes, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, eruption on face, scar each eye, left thumb, and back of neck, and mole middle of back. Convicted of larceny, on the 17th of May, 1867, and sentenced to 8 years; discharged to Manchester, on the 27th of October, 1873. FRANK MACK, alias McLOUGHLIN, JONES, and MEEK, about 29 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, light hazel eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, right hand crippled, mole right of mouth aud over right eye, scar laft eyebrow and groin. Convicted of larceny ou the 4th of February, 186S, and sentenced to 7 years; discharged to Manchester, on the- 24th October, 1873. JOHN RYAN, alias CORRIE, O'BRIEN.
