Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offonders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the porson requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to ME. C. *#* Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Moll, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without bis authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 31st ultimo, the dead body of a man was found ' ill the Rochdale Canal, near Uuion- st., Ancoats, Manchester,' and is believed to have been in the water two or three weeks. The body is that of a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 or j 9 inches long, proportionate make, dark brown hair, light' brown whiskers, slight sandy moustache, and very regular teeth ; there is a large wound" at the back of the left ear ; the body was dressed in a dirty grey serge or tweed shooting 1 coat, the lining and back of the sleeves being very much • worn, a vest of the same material, a black cloth vest, a pair of cotton cord trousers, elastic- side boots, brown worsted stockings, a grey, black, and white plaid old woollen shirt, 1 repaired with calico, and a dirty red neck scarf; in one of the coat pockets was a cotton muffler, with a blue border round three sides. The body has not been identified. The clothing, & c., is now at Goulden- street Police Station, Man- chester, where information may be given. — Bow- street,! January 7. On the morning of the 28th ultimo, the dead Body of a fully developed newly- born female Child was found in the' Wallhead reservoir, in the borough of Rochdale, and on the 30th ultimo a verdict of ' Wilful murder against some person or persons unknown' was returned by the coroner's jury. The body was stitched up in coarse sacking, tied round the middle with white tape. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Rochdale, Lancashire.— Bow- street, January 6. Description of THOMAS DRISCOLL, who absconded from Bristol about the 23rd ultimo, charged, under the coroner's warrant, with the manslaughter of Michael Quin, at Bristol, on the 21st ult. : he is an Irishman, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair cut short, broad round shoulders, rather stout build, pale face, bridge of nose rather flat, turns up at end, black beard on chin, walks with si swaggering gait, speaks with the London accent, has a low expression of countenance, and is addicted to drink ; dressed generally, when in workiug clothes, in monkey jacket, with white duck jacket underneath, cord trousers, which he ties Ijelow the knee, and dark close- fitting cap, but when other- wise dressed, wears a long dark cloth coat; he works about shipping, and has been im ployed in the neighbourhood of St. Katherine's Docks and Tooley- street, London. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Handcock, Police Office, Bristol, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 5. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 2nd instant, the granary of Joseph Shaw, of Huggate, was broken into, and an old Ham, • weighing about 2 stones, a side of old Bacon, about 5 stones, and a shoulder of Bacon, about 2 stones, were stolen there- from. Information to be given to Superintendent Cordukes, East Ridiug Constabulary, Pocklington, York.— Bow- street, January 7. During the night of the 3rd instant the house of Mr. Renville, White Bridge Farm, near Horsham, was broken into and the following property stolen : a black cloth Jacket with pockets at the side, and mended inside near one of the pockets; a pair of light lace- up Boots ; a silver Watch, maker—' Fowl, East Grinstead', with steel Chain attached ; ii pair of horse- clipping Scissors, and a pair of Common ones ; two pairs of Spectacles, one a brass frame and the other steel. A man, who was seen near the farm is suspected, about 22 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, daik hair and complexion, and thin appearance : dressed in a corduroy jacket and trou sers, and black billycock hat. Stated he should go to Ports- mouth and give himself up as a deserter from the Marines. Information to be given to Superintendent Henderson, " West Sussex Constabulary, Horsham.— Bow- street, January 7. On the night of the Cth, or early the following morning, the premises of William Robinson, sailor's clothier and out- fitter, High- street, Runcorn, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : six pairs of oilskin Trousers, boy's size, marked ' 4s. 6d.'; six ditto Coats, four double make, marked ' 10s. 6d. and 1 Is. 0d.' ; two ditto Coats, single make ; two or three half- lined ditto ; six pairs of elastic sides and half Wellington Boots, much soiled, but have not been worn ; three Brushes, marked on backs, dirt, blacking, and polishing; and a roller Towel, marked ' W. R.' in large letters in ink. Also stolen during same time, and supposed by some person from the adjoining back yard : a white flannel Singlet, and a ditto Petticoat, latter marked ' W. Hailwood.' Information to be given to Superintendent Aston, Police Station, Runcorn, Cheshire.— Bow- street, January 7. Between 9 a. m. and 9 p. m. on the 30th ultimo, the dwelling- house of Mr. Redman, of Virginia Water, - was broken into, and the following property stolen therein : a French Clock, on four cherry- wood pillars, mahogany base, and gilt top; two Tops of a cruet stand, silver ; aud four German silver Forks. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Bungard, Surrey Constabulary, Chertsey.— Bow- street, January 5. During the night of the 25th instant, the dwelling- house of Mr. John Leech, of Loddon, farming bailiff, was broken into and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a brown leather clasp Purse, containing £ 1 5s. in Silver, a pail- case silver Watch, No. 11461, maker Charles Clayton, i; steel Chain, two common Keys, and an old Seal with stone out, attached; and a silver Geneva Watch, No. 3ti, 025, a black silk Guard and common Key attached. Whoever will give such information to Superintendent Riches, Loddou, Norfolk, as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders, shall receive £ 2 reward.— Brno- street, December 31. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen on the 1st instant, from a field at Oxley- lane, Harrow- weald, a dark brown cob Horse, white feet, white star on forehead, scar on left side of face, and 15 hands high. Supposed by three men : one is 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, and whiskers, and dark dress ; one is 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, aud whiskers, aud dressed in blue overcoat, cord trousers ( tight fitting), billycock hat ; and the other is 50 years of age, 5 feet ( i inches high, fair complexion, light hair, and dressed in a light brown overcoat, browu cloth trousers ( fitting tight), and imitation sealskin cap. Had a horse and cart : horse light bay cob, 13i hands, old harness ; cart light spring, painted dark green.— Metropolitan Police, S Division, Jan. 9. Stolen from Haslemere, during the night of the 24th ultimo : a bay mare Pony, aged, about 15 hands high, white , star on forehead, both knees broken. Three men of the following description are suspected : One about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, small whiskers, stout build ; dressed in dark coat, tight- fitting cord trousers, and billycock hat. Another about 30 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, stout build, small whiskers ; dressed in a long jacket with white buttons, tight- fitting dark trousers, and black felt hat. The other about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, little or no whiskers ; dressed in dark coat and trousers, fitting tight, aud black cap. One of these men was seen ou the pony, going towards | Guildford, the other two took train from Haslemere to Guildford, and were talking abaut Dorking. Information to 1 be given to Deputy Chief Constable Barker, Surrey Consta- I bulary, Guildford.— Bow- street, January 9. Stolen from a field at Rhosweal, in the parish of St. ' Martin's, in the county of Salop, on the night of the 4th instant : a white barren Heifer, with a few red spots, and a slight scissors mark on near hip. Information to be given to Superintendent Gough, Oswestry, Salop.— Brno- street, Jan. 9. Stolen from a stable at Harrogate, between 6' 45 and 9 p. m. on the 5th instant: a bay Mare, rising 4 years old, ] 5 hands high, square cut tail rather long, splinter inside left knee, white star ou forehead, and white stripe down face. Information to be given ac the Superintendent's Office, Kuaresborougli, Yorks.— Bow- street, January 7. Stolen about a month since from a field at Redland's Farm, at Evercreech, Somerset : a white two- year old Heifer, marked in the right ear. Information jto be given to Deputy Chief Constable Bisgood, Glastonbury, or Sergeant Williams, Shepton Mallet, Somerset.— Bow- street, January 5. Stolen on the 1st instant, from Guildford : a black mare Pony, recently clipped, in good condition, rubbed on right side by trace ; also a four- wheel Chaise, painted green with white lines, lined with blue cloth, small seat behind ; and a set of plated Harness. By a man of the following description, who hired the above, and gave the name of REYNOLDS, about 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate built, pale com- pltxion, dark bushy whiskers ; dressed iu a dark grey suit, black tall hat, is of gentlemauly appearance. Information to be given to Superintendent Law, Borough Police, Guildford, Surrey.— Bow- street, January 5. Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from Union Cross Farm, West Bromwich : 2 Ponies, one cream colour, about 11 hands high, aged, in good condition, brand mark ' 3* on eaeh side of ribs, and lost two front teeth ; the sther is a black horse Pony, 13 hands high, aged, good condition, and wiite spot saddle mark on back. Information to be given to Sergeant Smith, Poliee Station, Greets Green, West Bromwich, Staffordshire.— Bcrto- street, January 2. Further information respecting the- bay Mare stolen from Park Farm, Oldland Connaon, adveSised in the Police Gazette of the 15th ultimo : the Mare had a flowing mam » and long tail, and both sides were rubbed by plough chains. Two men of the following description wer » seen with a mare the same night, going in the direction of Chippenham. Wilts : One about 35 years cf age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, and dark whiskers ; dressed in dark overcoat, oord trousers, soft bowler hat, and white muffler. ' She other about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high ; dressed in cord-' trousers, dirty slop, and soft bowler hat. They had Ae appearance of low horse dealers. £ 10 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to Mr. E. Williams, Oldland Common ; to Superintenient Rawife, Fishjonda ; or to Sergeant Morley, Oldiand Common, Gloucesi jrjLire.-— Bow- street, January 2. Stolen from a field at Burnhill- green,. Patshull; on the 16th ultimo : a bay cob Horse, 8- years old, about 14 bauds high, right knee broken, star on forehead, little white on near heel, and lump on loin. Information, to be- given to- Inspector McCrea, Tettenball, Wolverhampton, or to Police Constable Cragg, Police Station, Pattingham.— Vow- street, January 2. A warrant is issued against a mau named ALBERT, a German, who has absconded from Wolverhampton on the morning of the 5th instant, charged with stealing an ivory Opera- glass, with leather case; a black cloth Vest, bouud with braid, two pockets inside and three outside ; a pair of blue worsted Stockings ; a light- coloured tweed Jacket, one pocket inside and two outside ; a pair of men's elastic- side Boots, three buttons up the front ; and two black- handled Razors, hollow ground : he is about 24 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, light completion, light brown hair, scar under jaw on left side ; dressed in light- coloured trousers, dark coat, dark striped woollen shirt, and low felt hat. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable Segrave, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, January 9. Stolen on the morning of the 31st ultimo, from a public- house iu Chichester : a brown Overcoat, with velvet collar, pockets at sides, and a small hole in one sleeve near tht- elbow ; a black felt Hat, nearly new ; a black Scarf ; and £> pair of Stockings. By a man who took lodgings in the house- and left in the morning before the occupants were up : he ii about 35 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, brown hair parted down the centre, clean shaved, and is a painter and musician; dressed in a light jacket and dark trousers, and is supposed to be wearing the stolen property ; has been a soldier, and joined the Sussex Militia the day previous in the naoe of GEORGE BAKER. Information to be given to Head Constable Pratt, City Police, Chichester.— Bow street, Jan. 9. Absconded, charged with stealing a Goose, the property of William Parsons, on the night of the 3rd instant: ALBERT WATSON, a labourer, about 5 feet 6 indies high, light complexion, very thin face, small whiskers and long; thiu nose ; a native of Rolveuden, Kent; dressed iu a short white slop, cold troustrs, aud thick lace- up boois. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Butchci, live, Susses*—• Bow- street, January 7, Absconded ou the 29th ultimo, from Kingston, charged with embezzling £ i 10s. : ROBERT WILLIAM DELLY, 38 years of age. 5 feet 1 inch high, florid complexion, long nose, red neck, brown curly hair, scar over eye ; dressed respectably, and wore a high hat, with mourning band. Warrant issued.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division^ January 7. Absconded on the 2nd instant, charged with embezzling £ 2 6s. : a mau, 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow- complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, slight moustache, high forehead ; dressed in a light brown overcoat, black undercoat, tweed trousers, felt hat; speaks English imperfectly.— Metro- politan Police, D Division, January 7. W., or to the Officer Commanding 2nd Battalion Scots Fusilier Guards at Dublin.— Bow- etseet, January 7, ALEY FROSTICK and FRANCIS ATTWOOD, who absconded from > the borongh of Maldon oa the 8th ultimo, charged upon warrants with feloniously stealing from the dwelling- house of ' Thomas Frostick, the husband of Aley Frostick, North- street, Maldon : three Shirts and nine- teen, packages of Drapery and Silks, the goods aud chattels of the said Thomas Frostick, valued i,' 30. Aley Frostick is 44 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, grey iiair, light eyebrows, full fat face, and very muscular, weigh- ing about 18 to stone.; she will most likely be found iu company with the young man who absconded with her, and is charged with the same offence, named Francis Attwood, 17 or K years of age, 5 feet, or 4 inches high, a chimney- sweeper, fair complexion, feroWn hair, and no whiskers he absconded in- a dark blue svercoat, with velvet coKar, s. nd low- orowned browu felt hat ; he is a native of Dronfield, in the county of Derby, but has lately resided iu Napier- street, Sheffield. £ b reward will be paid by Messrs. Bradley Brothers to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension of tlie said Thomas Platts. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield, Yor kshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Uow- slreet, January 2. Absconded from Barnstaple, on the 26th instant, charged with embezzlement: JOHNSON WEBB, 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches hip'j, dark brown hair, florid complexion, Roman nose, and ot genteel appearance; dressed in brown mixture coat and vest, black trousers, and at times wears a black over coat; lies lately been a clerk in a printer's office. Supposed gone to some seaport, with tue intention of going to sea. A " warrant is issued for his apprehension. Informa- tion to be given to Head Constable Longhurst, Barnstaple, Devon.— Bow- stroet, December 31. Desciiptionof AMOS WALKER, formerly of Swaffham, a commercial traveller, who absconded on the 28th ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzling a large amount of money : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskars, growing down the face and under chin ; he was seen a few days since in the neighbourhood of Islington, and is connected with the beer, wine, and spirit trade. All ex, pences will be paid ou liis apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Lambley, Swaffham, Norfolk.— Bow- street, December 31. Description of EDWIN ROBERTS, a tramping shoe- maker or rivetter, who absconded from Oakengates, Salop, on the 16th instant, charged on a Warrant with being the bailee of a silver verge Watch on the 18th instant, the prpperty of Henry Didlock ; also of a silver Geneva Hunting Watch, maker La Trobe, 15, College Green, Bristol, No, 52( 396 ; and an English, verge Watch, No, 5889, the property of Mr. Joseph Rushton, watchmaker, Oakengates : he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair and complexion, little beard at end of chin ; dressed in black cloth coat and trousers, brown vest, and soft black billycock hat; is accom- panied by his wife and a little boy ; the wife is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, pale complexion, has a cast iu both eyes, aud auburn hair ; the little boy is about 4 years of age, fair complexion, and curly hair. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Merricks, Oakengates, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Dec. 31. FRAUDS AID AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. A reward of £ 50 will be given to any person or persons who shall give such information as shall lead to the appre- hension of the four men concerned iu the murderous assault on the watchers in Haywood Forest, Hereford, on the morn- ing of the 31st ultimo ; two of the men are very much marked about the head and facc from blows of a stick : one of the . , , —-, --- - , -- --- , | men, named WILLIAM BINNELL, 13 about 32 years of dressed when last seen at Maldon iu a monkey jacket, dark j 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stoutly built, round features, cord trousers and cap, and has iu his possession a pedlar's 1 little or no whiskers, and weariugdark tweed jacket and vest, certificate, granted at Maiden on the 6th October, 1875, and corci 0r moleskin trousers, and dark soft billycock hat. Another, JOHN BINNELL, is about 23 year's of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stoutly built, round features, little or no whiskers; dressed in dark cloth suit, much worn, and dark soft billycock hat. They are well known in the Forest of Dean and Breconshire. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Wilson, County Police Station, Hereford, or at any Police Station in the county.— Bow- street, January 6. Description of a man who absconded from Sandbach on the 2nd instant, charged with obtaining 4s. 6d. from Edward Sampy by false and fraudulent pretences : he is about 47 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark hair and com- plexion ; dressed in a brown cloth coat, cord trousers, old shoes, and black hat ; goes about the country collecting rags aud bones, accompanied by his daughter aged 9 years, and carries a black oil- cloth bag with him, which he leaves at his lodgings. Information to be given to Superintendent Roubottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, Cheshire.— — Bou- streeet, January 5. - signed by Wm. King, chief. constable, iu the name of ' Francis Attwood, Hythe, Maldon.' Aley Frostick has her little boy, Edward Frostick, with her, who is 11 years of age, very short and thick made, most likely will be wearing a dark velvet jacket with targe buttons and close- fitting cap, dark cord trousers, ritting tight to tlie leg-. They are supposed to have gone to Sunderlaud, near South Dock, information to be given to Ckief Constable King, Maldon, Essex, who holds warrants for their apprehension.— Bow- street, January 5.
