W.," as they cannot bo published without his authority. INFORMATIONS ROBBERY AID LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person of William Young, iu a beerhouse at East Grinstead, on the 12th instant : a double- cased silver verge Watch, maker's name ' Stephen Crundwell, Tunbridge, No. 8571.' Information to be given to Superintendent Kennard, East Grinstead, Sussex.— Bow- street, December 22. Stolen from the person in the city of Durham, on the night of the 20th July last, a silver patent lever Watch, silver face, gold figures, nearly new, maker Waterfield, Willington, with gold albert Guard ( long links) and locket ( engraved ' Forget me not'). Information to be given to Chief Con- stable Wilson, Durham City.— Bow- street, December 22. Description of WILLIAM SMITH, alias GIPSY BILL a horse dealer, who is charged with stealing a Watch aud Chain, from the person of Andrew Dawes, with violence, on the 13th October last, at Birmingham : he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, sallow complexion, small dark whiskers ; generally dressed in brown or grey overcoat, dark tight fitting trousers, aud billycock hat. He frequents horse fairs, aud markets in the Midland Districts. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehenbion. — Bow- street, December 17, On the 9th insrant, between 5 an 6 p. m., four men stopped Wm. Marlow, a groom, in Wiltshire Woods, parish of Tollard Royal, Wilts, pulled him from his horse, cut the reins, and took £ 3 17s. 3d. from his fob pocket : one man rather tall, with light slop or jacket on ; another short, dressed in dark clothes, this man was struck on the head with a whip. £ 20 reward is offered for the apprehension and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to the Chief Constable for Wilts, Devizes, or to Superinten- dent Dann, hindon by Salisbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, Dec. 15. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Wanted, charged with committing the burglary at St. John's, Seveuoaks, on the 18th and advertised in the Police Gazette of the 24th ultimo : HENRY REECE, alias HAWKES, 30 years of age, 5 feet 7£ inches high, sandy hair, no whiskers, sandy stubby moustache, blue eyes, fair complexion, and a bricklayer by trade. Was discharged from Cold Bath Fields Prison, on the 4th November last, after a senteuce of six months ; was liberated from Dartmoor Gaol, on a ticket of- leave, on the 11th December, 1872, where he was undtrgoing seven years penal servitude; his license will expire on the 2nd June, 1874 ; dressed when last seen in dark overcoat, cloth trousers, and felt hat, all rather old. JAMES HURLEY, about 28 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, slight made, no whiskers, and small dark moustache ; dressed in dark overcoat, dark trousers, hard felt hat, and Wellington boots, all nearly new. Well known at Bethnal- green and Whitechapel, London. JOHN CHATFIELD, about 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 ins. high, one tooth out in front of upper jaw, no whiskers, rather full face; dressed in dark cord trousers, raised seams up sides, dark cloth long overcoat, soft felt hat, white wrapper round neck, with dogs' heads on it. Also well known in the neighbourhood of Whitechapel. Information to be given to Superintendent O'Kill, Police Court, Sevenoaks, Keut.- Bow- street, December 24. Description of a boy named E. BROOK, a native of Leyton, Essex, charged with breaking aud entering the dwelling- house of Mr. J. Marsh, of Thame, Oxon, between 10 p. m. on the 17th and 6 a. m. on the 18th instant, and stealing therein : an eight- day Clock, round face, maker Miles on the face ; a snuff- coloured cloth Overcoat; and a black pilot Overcoat, with large bone buttons, boy's size : he is about 16 years of age, 5 feet high, dark complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, slender make ; dressed in a Scotch cap, brown overcoat, grey speckled cloth trousers. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Fernsby, County Police Station, Oxford, or to Inspector Hawtin, Police Station, Thame, Oxon, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 24. Stolen by means of housebreaking from a cottage in the parish of Pennal, Merionethshire, between the morning of the 17th and the night of the 18th instant, the following property : a witney dark cloth monkey Jacket, pockets with flaps on the outside of the skirts, and a breast pocket in the left side ; a black cloth Vest, trimmed with cloth buttons ; a grey cloth Vest; a pair of dark cloth striped Trousers ; two pairs of cotton cord Trousers, one nearly new aed newly washed ; a grey calico Shirt; a red fancy cotton Shirt; a pair of grey woollen Stockings ; a pair of light Half- Boots, the tongue of one missing ; a black and white woollen Muffler ; a plaid Muffler ; and a black felt Hat. Supposed by a man of the following description : 21 years of age, about 5 feet 7 ins. high, fresh complexion, brown or dark brown hair, wide mouth, rather soft voice in speaking ; he is a Welshman, and speaks broken English; has the appearance of a farm servant, and likely to seek employment with farmers ; he is supposed to be a native of Llanfaircaereinion, Montgomery- shire. Information to be given to Superintendent Hughes, Towyn, or to Police Sergeant Roberts, Aberdovey, Merioneth- shire.— Bow- street, December 24. Between the hours of 11 and 2, on the 15th instant, the cottage of Benjamin Fellows, at Garston, near Watford, was broken into, and the following property stolen : a black cloth Coat, with the name of ' Chalk,' written on a small band inside collar; 2 pairs of mixed grey Trousers, not lined ; a dark Vest, a pair of lace- up Shoes, a calico Sheet, and a Half Sovereign. Supposed by tramps. Information to be given to Inspector Chapman, Police Station, Watford, Herts. — Bow- street, December 22. Stolen, by means of office- breaking, from Lockwood Beck Waterworks, near Guisbro', on the night of the 13th or morning of the 14th instant : a leather Box, containing a Surveyor's Level, a Rain- water Measuring Glass in a leather case, a quantity of Note- paper, headed ' Cleveland Waterworks Company.' Supposed by navvies. Information to be given to Superintendent Prest, North Riding Constabulary, Guisbro', Yorkshire.— Bow- street, December 15. During the night of the 9th instant, the workshop of the Millers Dale Lime Company, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a jack Plane ; a smoothing Plane ; several flat Ch'sels ; a socket Chisel; a Mallet ; a Hammer ; a pair of Pincers ; a pair of Compasses ; a Brace and Bit; Files ; aud Saw, all marked ' T. B.' Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Police Office, Bakewell, Derbyshire. — Bow- street, December 15. be given to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, Warwickshire. 1 — Bow- street, December 17. Stolen on the 7th instant, at Han well: a black Cart Mare, light, 3 years old, 16 hands high, scar on off nostril, long tail, in good condition.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, December 17. Stolen from a stable at Park Farm, Oldland Common, on the night of the 10th instant: a bright bay cart Mare, 15^ hands high, in foal, star on forehead, near foot behind white, side bones on both fore legs, the property of Mr. Edwd. Williams. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, on application to Mr. Edward Williams, to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, or at any Police Station in the county of Gloucester.— Bow- street, December 15. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Description of HEZEKIAH EVANS, charged with stealing the mare Donkey ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 15th instant) from Holmer- green, in the parish of Little Missenden, on the night of the 5th inst. ( the donkey has been recovered) : he is about 17 years of age, 5 feet high, and stout make ; dressed in a short fustian jacket or white slop, cord trousers, dirty in front, dark waistcoat and cap ; he is a tinker, but sometimes works for blacksmiths ; he holds a pedlar's certificate for Bucks, issued in October last, and has it endorsed for the Metropolitan District ; he is usually hawking tinware. Information to be given to Inspector Moore, Chesham, or to Sergeant Maneely, Amersham, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, De- cember 19. Stolen on the night of the 17th instant, from a field at Manton : an aged black nag Horse, about 15£ hands high, in very good condition, very small white star on forehead, and both knees chipped. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Rutland, Oakham.— Bow- street, December 19. Description of JAMES WATSON and JAMES LOWTHER, alias ' SMALL JEMMY,' charged with steal- ing a chesnut mare Pony from Harrington, on the 19th ult. the property of John Martin, which has since been recovered. WATSON is 30 years of age, a native of Carlisle, basket maker, 5 feet 5 or 0 inches high, light complexion, thin sandy whiskers, light brown hair, stoutly build ; dressed in brown coat, moleskin trousers, aud cloth cap. LOWTHER is about 20 yrs. of age, basket maker or potter, a native of Carlisle, 5 feet 5 or 6 ins. high, light complexion, large roman ncse, brown hair, aud slender figure ; dressed in old black cloth coat and trousers. These men are well known in Cumberland, and Lancashire. Information to be given to Superintendent Little, Whitehaven, who holds the warrants for their apprehension, or at the County Chief Constables Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Boio- street, December 19. The Mare stolen from Nuneaton, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant, has been recovered. It was found in a stable in Birmingham, which had been hired by a man, who is supposed to have stolen the mare : about 47 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, deeply pockmarked, dark penetrating eyes, dark hair, nearly black, broad shoulders, thick set, thin legs, and has a cut on top lip. Information to LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a shop in Nantwich- road, Crewe, abont 11 a. m. on the 22nd instant : a new grey woollen Shirt, with a white stripe. By a youth, about 15 years of age, about 5 feet high, and sallow complexion ; dressed in an old dark cloth coat, and black cloth cap. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Crewe, Cheshire. — Bow- street, December 24. GEORGE ROBINS, late of 31, Oak Village, Gospel Oak, Kentish Town, is charged with felony : he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, brown hair, cut short, slight mous- tache, pointed beard, no whiskers, blue eyes, fresh complexion, thin build, walks quickly with rather a stoop, small head, which he has a habit of turning quickly, and speaks hoarsely; dressed in heavy rough dark blue overcoat, dark trousers, and cutaway coat, and tall hat. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, Detective Depart- ment, 26, Old Jewry, E. C.— Bow- street, December 24. WALTER J. D. RICHARDS, of Albion- buildings, Tenby- street, and 7, South- grove, Erdington, lately in the employ of Billing Brothers and Whitmore, paper dealers, St. Paul's- squaie, Birmingham, as town traveller, having ab- sconded from Birmingham on the 19th instant, .£ 20 reward will be paid to any one who shall give such information as shall lead to his apprehension. He is 26 years of age ( looks older), 5 feet 9 inches high, dark hair, slightly streaked with grey, round face, high shoulders, and awkward gait. A war- rant for his apprehension is in the hands # f Mr. Glossop, Chief Superintendent of Police, Moor- street, Birmingham.— Bow- street, December 24. Description of WILLIAM GEORGE WATSON, a brewer's clerk, charged at Manchester with embezzlement: 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, slender make, small black whiskers and moustache, black hair, dark com- plexion, high cheekbones, narrow at the chin, stoops a little when walking, slightly in- kneed, and of gentlemanly appearance ; usually dressed in dark cloth clothes and high- crowned billycock hat; is a good singer, and has been in the habit of attending music halls and theatres. £ 10 reward will be paid by his late employers for his apprehension, and a further reward of 10 per cent, on all monies recovered. In- formation to be given at the Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester.— Bow- street, December 24. Stolen from a dwelling- house on the 22nd instant, in the parish of Grimoldby : about 161bs of Bacon, the property of Mark Hewson. By a man of the following description: 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, dark hair and whiskers, meeting under the chin ; dressed in a Scotch cap with ribbon behind, short drab slop, and cord trousers, having the appearance of a farm labourer. Information to be given to Superintendent Thorsby, County Police Office, Louth, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, December 24. Stolen on the 20th instant, from the commercial- room of the Cross Keys Inn, Northampton : two meerschaum Pipes ( one new, the other coloured), the largest is a billiard pipe, with amber mouthpiece, and under the amber near the stem is a dark mark about the size of a pin's head ; the smallest is in a violet and black leather case, and has the name ' Hart- man, Vienna,' inside the case ; and a white silk Handkerchief, marked ' W. S.' in corner. By a man of the following descrip- tion ( who lodged in the above house one night and left with- out paying his bill) : 33 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, very large nose, and ginger- coloured whiskers and moustache ; dressed in dark clothes, grey overcoat, and high silk hat. £• 2 rewaid will be paid on his apprehension and recovery of the property. Information to be given to Chief Constable Keenan, Northampton.— Bow- street, Decentber 24. Stolen on the 18th instant, the property of Patrick Clinton, of Consett: a patent lever silver Watch, with w hite dial, gold hands, and engine- turned case, No. 1236, had a silver Guard attached. By a man who gave his name GEO. ANDERSON, about 20 years of age, about 5 feet 3 iuches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, small thin whiskers, long features, bridge of nose rather flat, slender figure, by trade a blacksmith, and has worked at ship yards and iron, works in the North of Eugland ; dressed in black cloth coat, with velvet collar, moleskin trousers and vest, blue flannel shirt, eheck scarf, black cloth cap, and old boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Oliver, Durham County- Constabulary, Consett, who holds a warrant for bis appre- hension— Bow- street, December 24. Stolen from No. 14, Edgware- street, Edge- hill, Liverpool, 8 F O L I UM ( jr A Z K L T E. December 19. a harp, maker 1 Erards,' black belly, with ornaments at tlio bottom, ami figures of females. By a mau of the following description : 5 feet 4 inches high, face very red with pimples, and wore a ronnd black cloth and round hat. A reward of IDs. will be given for his apprehension. Information to be given to Superintendent Harrap, Edgeside, Lancashire. — Bow- street, December 24. Stolen from the Turk's Head public- house, Eton, on the morning of the 18th instant : two Blankets, worn, which have been recovered. By a mau who slept at the house for the night: a Scotchman, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, light hair, very little whiskers, tooth out in front, and fair complexion ; dressed in dark clothes, grey check cap with peak, aud had a white comforter round his neck. Information to be given to Superintendent Dunham, Slough, or to Inspector Pearman, Eton, Bucks.— Bow- street December 22. Description of WILLIAM ATKINSON, a tramping joiner, who is charged with stealing some Tools, which are recovered at Barton, Lincolnshire : he is about JO years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, brown hair, very much whiskers aud moustache, fresh complexion ; dressed in an old faded black cloth coat, dark vest, checked trousers, mended at the knees, old Wellington boots, and billycock hat; has an Irish woman with him who passes as his wife ; he seeks work at his trade, also as a saw sharpener, begs, aud is very fond of drink, sleeps at low lodging houses ; was traced to Hull on the 18th instant, and is supposed to be making for the north. Information to be given to Superintendent Fuller, Barton- upon- Humber, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, December 22. Absconded from Cheltenhem on the 11th instant, charged with stealing five sets of leather boot Bottoms, four pairs of ladies boot Tops, and one pair of boot Lasts, the property of Mr. Thomas Ryder, their employer : WILLIAM JAMES, a shoemaker, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black curly hair, pale complexion, dark moustache, good- shaped nose, no eyelashes, rather red eyes as though they had once been sore, aud of thin make. And THOS. EDGINGTON, shoemaker, about 40 years of age, and 5 feet 7 inches high rather li^ ht hair, large round face, clean shaved, pugilistic dissipated appearance, stoutly made, wears light clothes, and has his son with him, a boy about 7 years of age. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham Gloucestershire, who holds warrants for their apprehension. Bow- street, December 22. Absconded from Nottingham on the 12th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling various sums of Money JOSEPH RANBY, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, prominent Roman nose, brown hair, small whiskers, no moustache; dressed in blue overcoat, with velvet collar ; has been a com- mercial traveller in the drapery aud fancy millinery trade he lias a relative living in Dawson- lane, Holdness- street. Hull. Information to be given to Chief Constable Poyntz, Boro' Police Station, Nottingham.— Bow street, December 19. Absconded from Holt on the 8th instant, charged with stealing from his master : one brown double- breasted Over- coat with sealskin collar, two pockets behind, and one breast ditto, lined with a kind of black twill; a horse- clipping Machine, Clark's make; and a singing Ditto: HENRY THAXTEN, groom, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, swarthy complexion, small dark whiskers, little hair on chin; dressed in seedy- black coat, drabbed trousers, and white chummy hat; walks rather quick, and may be found amongst drovers. Information to be given to Inspector Mobbs, Holt, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, Deceniber 19. Absconded about the 14th ultimo, having embezzled several sums of Money : HUGH RODGER, late of Wolver- hampton, draper's assistant, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black curly hair, dark moustache, sallow com- plexion, small features, and large eyes; was dressed in a blue ribbed coat, blue Petersham overcoat, lined with black and white plaid, dark striped trousers, aud silk hat. Had with him a dark plaid or check jacket, with trousers nearly to match, and deerstalker hat. £ 10 reward will be paid to any person or persons giving information leading to his appre- hension and conviction. Information to be given to Chief Constable Segrave, Wolverhampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 19. On the night of the 29th ulitmo, several large boxes at the Barron- wood cutting, on the Settle and Carlisle Railway, were broken open, and about 70 lbs. of Gunpowder stolen therefrom, the property of Mr. Bayliss, contractor. Also, on the same night, a wooden Building, used as a blacksmith's shop, was blown up with gunpowder and other damage com mitted. A warrant has been issued for the apprahension of WILLIAM BUTLER, an Irishman, who was discharged from the works ou the 29th ultimo : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, ruddy complexion, and rather dark sandy whiskers round the face; dressed in a faded dark jacket, velveteen or plush fancy waistcoat, diamond pattern of all colours, moleskin or grey cloth trousers patched on the knees, black billycock hat, and clogs ; he is of idle habits, frequents common lodging- houses, aud occasionally sleeps at workhouse vagrant wards. Information to be given to Super- intendent Fowler, Penrith, who holds the warrant for his apprehension, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland.— Bow- street, December 19. of Brighton: twenty- one Bottles of Brandy; a Bottle of Sherry ; and a Bottle of Gin : he is about 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, slight made, brown hair, small light whiskers ; a gentleman's servaut, and supposed to be staying in Edgware- road, London. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Constable White, Town Hall, Brighton, who holds a wan ant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 19. PRAUDS AND AGGRAVATED MISDEMEANOURS. Description of CHARLES WILSON, charged with obtaining Money by false pretences at Hounslow : 42 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, thickly set, florid complexion bushy and sandy beard, blue eyes, and is a plasterer.-- Mctropolitan Police, T Division, December 24. Obtained by false pretences from Charles Vokes, cab proprietor, Rochester, on the 5th instant, by a man who stopped at the Bull Hotel on the night of the 4th : an aged grey cob Mare, lame of off hind leg, a scar on side of fetlock ou off fore- leg ; a small gig painted green and picked out with green, imitation basket work ou each side and back of body, leather dashboard, lamp irons, no lamps, the end of the shafts tipped with brass ; a silver- plated harness, nearly new; a brown- handled gig Whip, silver mounted ; and a carriage' Rug, black one side and mixed colours the other : he is about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, no whiskers; dressed in a black coat, high hat, with mourning band, and of respectable appearance. Information to be given to Head Constable Radley, City of Rochester Police Station, Kent. — Bow- street, December 19. Description of JOHN PETTIT, charged with obtaining by false pretences, from Mr. William Box, licenced victualler, MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS. Description of DANIEL McKENZIE, committed for trial at the borough of Middlesborough for felony : he is 32 years of age, 5- feet 5 inches high, swarthy complexion, grey eyes, dark hair, whiskers shaved off, except at chin end, a labourer, born at Sligo, but generally resided at Glasgow. Information to be given to Chief Coustable Snggerson, Mid- dlesborough.— Bow- strett, December 24. Description of JOHN THOMAS, alias BANNER, charged with larceny, who made his escape from the custody of Police Sergeant Wade, on the 19th instant, whilst being conveyed from Solva to Haverfordwest : 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, blue eyes, very much inflamed, brown hair, proportionate figure, swelling ou right side of neck, and small whiskers on chin ; dressed in dark cloth coat, dark overcoat, with velvet collar, corduroy trousers, black billy cock hat, aud old boots, nearly worn out; a native of Solva, Pembrokeshire. Information to be given to Chief Coustable Stokes, Haverfordwest; to Superintendent Thomas, Pem- broke ; or to Sergeant Irving, Narberth, Pembroke, who holds ; warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Decem- ber 24. He ia well known in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, having travelled with his wife ( who is of low build aud fresh look- ing) hawking scents, needle- work, and wax flowers, which she makes, and he occasionally associates with gipsies.
