Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information inspecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desiresl that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. A* no charge is made for the insertion of any article ; n the POLICB GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor Blast be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Description of DOMINICK REGAN, an Irish labourer, who is charged with haviug set fire to several Stacks of farm produce on the premises of Charles Broome, Keckwick, near Runcorn, on the night of the 3rd iustaut: he is 17 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair cut short,; and grey eyes; dressed iu a blue and white checked cotton jacket, drab cotton cord or moleskin trousers, clogs, large woollen muffler, aud dark bendigo cap. He was dis- charged from Knutsford Gaol on the 1st instant. Supposed to have relatives living in Crewe, Chester, and Stockport. Information to be given to Superintendent Aston, Town Hall, . Runcorn, Cheshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, December 8. ROBBERY AND LARCENY PROM THE PERSON. Description of WILLIAM SMITH, alias GIPSY BILL a horse dealer, who is charged with stealing a Watch and Chain, from the person of Andrew Dawes, with violence, on the 13th October last, at Birmingham : he is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, sallow complexion, small dark whiskers ; generally dressed in brown or grey overcoat, dark tighi, fitting trousers, aud billycock hat. He frequents horse fairs, and markets iu the Midland Districts. Informa- tion to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, December 17, On the 9tli insrant, between 5 an 6 p. m., four men stopped Wm. Marlow, a groom, iu Wiltshire Woods, parish of Tollard Royal, Wilts, pulled him from his horse, cut the reins, and took £ 3 17s. 3d. from his fob pocket : one mau i rather tall, with light slop or jacket ou ; another short, i dressed iu dark clothes, this man was struck on the head with a whip. £ 20 reward is offered for the apprehension and conviction of the offenders. Information to be given to the Chief Constable for Wilts, Devizes, or to Superinten- dent Dann, Hindon by Salisbury, Wilts.— Bow- street, Dec. 15. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen, by means of office- breaking, from Lockwood Beck Waterworks, near Guisbro', on the night of the 13th or moruing of the 14th instant: a leather Box, containing a Surveyor's Level, a Rain- water Measuring Glass in a leather | case, a quantity of Note- paper, headed ' Cleveland Waterworks Company.' Supposed by navvies. Information to be given to Superintendent Prest, North Riding Constabulary, Guisbro', Yorkshire.— Bow- street, December 15. During the night of the 9th instant, the workshop of the Millers Dale Lime Company, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a jack Plane ; a smoothing Plane ; several flat Chisels ; a socket Chisel ; a Mallet ; a Hammer; a pair of Pincers ; a pair of Compasses ; a Brace aud Bit ; Files; and Saw, all marked ' T. B.' Information to be given to Superintendent Williams, Police Office, Bakewell, Derbyshire. Bow- street, December 15. it endorsed for the Metropolitan District; he is usually hawking tinware. Information to be given to Inspector Moore, Chesham, or to Sergeant Maneely, Amersham, Bucks, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, De- cember 19. Stolen on the night of the 17th instant, from a field at Manton : an agei black nag Horse, about 15j hands high, in very good condition, very small white star on forehead, and both knees chipped. Information to be given to the Chief Constable of Rutland, Oakham.— Bow- street, December 19. Description of JAMES WATSON and JAMES LOWTHER, alias ' SMALL JEMMY,' charged with steal- ing a chesnut mare Pony from Harrington, on the 19th ult. the property of John Martin, which has since been recovered. WATSON is 30 years of age, a native of Carlisle, basket maker, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, light complexion, thin sandy whiskers, light brown hair, stoutly build ; dressed in brown coat, moleskin trousers, aud cloth cap. LOWTHER is about 20 yrs. of age, basket maker or potter, a native of Carlisle, 5 feet 5 or 6 ins. high, light complexiou, large roman nose, brown hair, and slender figure ; dressed in old black cloth coat and trousers. These men are well known in Cumberland, and Lancashire. Information to be given to Superintendent Little, Whitehaven, who holds the warrants for their apprehension, or at the County Chief Constables Office, Carlisle, Cumberland— Bow- street, December 19. The'Mare stolen from Nuneaton, as advertised in the Police Gazette of the 10th instant, has been recovered. It was found in a stable in Birmingham, which had been hired by a man, who is supposed to have stolen the mare : about 47 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, deeply pockmarked, dark penetrating eyes, dark hair, nearly black, broad shoulders, thick set, thiu legs, and has a cut on top lip. Information to be given to Superintendent Austin, Nuneaton, Warwickshire. • — Bow- street, December 17. Stolen on the 7th instant, at Hanwell : a black Cart Mare, light, 3 years old, 16 hands high, scar on off nostril, long tail, in good condition.— Metropolitan Police, X Division, December 17. Stolen from a stable at Park Farm, Oldland Common, on the night of the 10th instant: a bright bay cart Mare, 15£ hands high, in foal, star on forehead, near foot behind white, side bones on both fore legs, the property of Mr. Edwd. Williams. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the couvictiou of the offender or offenders, on application to Mr. Edward Williams, to Superintendent Rawle, Fishponds, or at any Police Statiou iu the couuty of Gloucester.— Bow- street, December 15. Stolen from Walsall on the 9th instant, a light brown horse Pony, aged, 12 hands high, long mane and tail, and a spavin on off hind hock. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, Dec. 15. Stolen from a field in the parish of Kelvedon Hatch, during the night of the 12th instant, the property of the Rev. Mr. Fane : a bay mare Pony, about 13 hands high, white mark on nose, very rough coat, about 6 years old, a sore mouth from ' Lampas,' black legs, long tail, and iu good con- dition. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Epping, or to Inspector Robinson, Police Station, Chipping Ongar, Essex. - Bow- street, December 15. Stolen from a field at Holmer- green, in the parish of Little Missenden, duriug the night of the 5th instant : a dark brown mare Donkey, about 6 years old, in good condition, stout iu the belly, aud supposed to be in foal, has the hair rubbed off both sides, and a little white on the nose. Infor- mation to be given to Inspector Moore, Police Station, Chesham, Bucks.— Bow- street, December 12. Stolen form a meadow at Boxhill Farm, Dorking, during the night of the 9th iustant, the property of Frederick Charles Rickards : a black strong nag Mare, in foal, 15 hands 3 inches high, rather weak in the fore legs, shoes off behind ; also a bay mare Pony, aged, about 12 or 13 hands high, rough coat, and lame. Information to be given to Superintendent Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking.— Bow- st., Dec. 12. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of HEZEKIAH EVANS, charged with Stealing the mare Donkey ( advertised in the Police Gazette of the 15th instant) from Holmer- green, in the parish of Little Missenden, ou the night of the 5th inst. ( the donkey has been recovered) : he is about 17 years of age, 5 feet high, and stout make ; dressed in a short fustian jacket or white slop, cord trousers, dirty in front, dark waistcoat and cap ; he is a tinker, but sometimes works for blacksmiths ; he holds a pedlar's certificate for Bucks, issued in October last, and has LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded from Nottingham on the 12th instant, charged on a warrant with embezzling various sums of Money: JOSEPH RANBY, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, proportionate build, fresh complexion, prominent Roman nose, brown hair, small whiskers, no moustache; dressed in blue overcoat, with velvet collar ; has been a com- mercial traveller iu the drapery aud fancy millinery trade ; be has a relative living in Dawson- laue, Holdness- street, Hull. Information to be given to Chief Constable Poyntz, Boro' Police Station, Nottingham.— Bow- street, December Id. Absconded from Holt on the 8th instant, charged with stealing from his master : one brown double- breasted Over- coat with sealskin collar, two pockets behind, and one breast ditto, lined with a kind of black twill; a horse- clipping Machine, Clark's make ; and a singing Ditto : HENRY THAXTEN, groom, 27 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, swarthy complexion, small dark whiskers, little hair on chin ; dressed iu seedy- black coat, drabbed trousers, and white chummy hat; walks rather quick, aud may be found amongst drovers. Information to be given to Inspector Mobbs, Holt, Norfolk, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension. Bow- street, December 19. Absconded about the 14th ultimo, having embezzle- 1 several sums of Money : HUGH RODGER, late of Wolver- hampton, draper's assistant, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, black curly hair, dark moustache, sallow com- plexion, small features, and large eyes; was dressed in a blue ribbed coat, blue Petersham overcoat, lined with black and white plaid, dark striped trousers, and silk hat. Had with him a dark plaid or check jacket, with trousers nearly to match, and deerstalker hat £ 10 reward will be paid to'anv person or pereors giving information leading to his appre- hension and conviction. Information to be given to Chief Constable Segrave, Wolverhampton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 19. On the night of the 29th ulitmo, several large boxes at the Barron- wood cutting, ou the Settle and Carlisle Railway, were broken open, and about 70 lbs. of Gunpowder stolen therefrom, the property of Mr. Bayliss, contractor. Also, on the same night, a wooden Buildiug, used as a blacksmith's shop, was blown up with gunpowder and other damage com- mitted. A warrant has been issued for the apprahension of WILLIAM BUTLER, an Irishman, who was discharged from the works on the 29th ultimo : abont 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, ruddy complexion, and rather dark sandy whiskers round the face; dressed in a faded dark jacket, velveteen or plush fancy waistcoat, diamond pattern of all colours, moleskin or grey cloth trousers patched on the knees, black billycock hat, and clogs ; he is of idle habits, frequents common lodging- houses, aud occasionally sleeps at workhouse vagrant wards. Information to be given to Super- intendent Fowler, Penrith, who holds the warrant for his apprehension, or at the County Chief Constable's Office, Carlisle, Cumberland— Bow- street, December 19. Description of THOMAS BARNES, a shoemaker, late in business in the Market- place, Warwick, and late Secretary of the Royal Rose Lodge of Oddfellows, Manchester Unity, charged with embezzling a large sum of Money belonging to the Lodge : 43 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, and dark hair ; dress in dark cloth clothes ; he is a good hand at peg boots, a quick talker and walker, and carries his head forward. All his expenses will be paid on his apprehension aud conviction. Information to be given to Head Constable Hickling, Warwick, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 17. Absconded from his bail on the 9th instant, charged with stealing and receiving a quantity of Brazil Nuts : ABRAHAM ISAACS, a Jew, late of 50, Long Acre, and Covent Garden Market, salesman aud fruiterer, 43 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion, black hair, beard, and moustache, scar over left eye ; dressed iu a long loose grey witney overcoat, dark trousers, lace- up boots, and black round hard hat. £ 50 reward. Warrant issued.— Metropo- litan Police, E Division, December 17. Description of HUGH SHERRY, brewers traveller, who absconded about the 10th instant, charged with embezzhug £ 222, at Workington, Cumberlaud : he is about 38 years of age, 5 feet 10 iucnes high, swarthy complexiou, slightly marked with small pox, grey eyes, rather sunk, dark hair, moustache, and whiskers, chin cleau shaven, stoutly made with square shoulders, and walks very erect; dressed in black square lapped coat, dark trousers and vest, silk hat, and carried a short dark blue nap overcoat He is a native of Ireland, and has a slight Irish accent, he is near sighted, and when reading or writing uses a pair of tortoiseshell eye- glasses : will probably be found stopping at an hotel. He is well known iu the Northern Counties, having travelled for different brewers, and is accompanied by his wife, who is about 23 years of age, and smart looking. Information to be given to Superintendent Little, Constabulary Office, White- haven, or to Inspector Smith, Constabulary Office, Working- ton, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street December 17. Stolen from King's Arms Hotel, Prescot, about 4- 30 p. m. 13th inst : a gold Watch, engine turned cases, ' E. Lloyd,' out and inside of case; a plain gold Guard ; a £ 20 Bank of England Note, No. K | 33, 89804; a Check on Parr's Bank for £' 12, signed ' J. Fowler, Z No. 06SSS ; about £ 40 iu Gold and Silver, and some foreign Coins. By two men: one about 36 years of age, rather tall, dark complexion, small whiskers ; dressed iu dark overcoat, and black silk hat The other about 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh com- plexion, light brown hair and whiskers ; dressed in brown overcoat, and black silk hat. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Absconded from Chester, on the 12th instant, charged with stealing £ 51 7s. 4d., the money of Her Majesty's Post- master- General : JOHN KING KNIGHT, 22 years of age, 5 feet 6i inches high, light hair, blue eyes, pale complexion, rather stout, light moustache, whiskers, and beard ; dressed in a pilot clcth overcoat, aud dark suit Has been employed in the Postal Telegraph Department at Chester, as clerk" for three years, but belongs to Longton, Staffordshire.
