Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon proporty, may bear the SlgaatHre of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offeuce charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not bo made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Otlice, Pall Mall, London, 8. W.," as they cannot bo published without bis authority. INFORMATIONS. MUEDSF 1ND MALICIOUSLY BOUNDING. Pound on the 27th ultimo, in the liver Clwyd, at the parish of Llandyrnog, the body of a male child, about (> months old, supposed to have been in the water about ( 5 weeks. An inquest has been held 011 the body, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' returned against some person or pel- sons unknown. Description of DOMINICK REGAN, an Irish labourer, who is charged with having set lire to several Stacks of farm . produce on the premises of Charles Broome, Keckwick, near Runcorn, on the night of the 3rd iustaut : he is 17 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair cut abort, Mid grey eyes; dressed in a blue and white checked cotton jacket, " drab cotton cord or moleskin trousers, clo^ s, large woollen muffler, and dark bendigo cap. He was dis- charged from Kn in sford Gaol on the 1st instant. Supposed to have relatives living in Crewe, Chester, and Stockport. Information to be given to Superintendent Aston, Town Hall, ltnucorn, Cheshire, who holds the warrant for his apprehen- j sion.— Bow- street, December 8. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the night of the 26th ultimo, the Orphan Asylum, at Henwick, Worcester, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : about 20 yards of unwashed Calico ; about 20 yards of black and white plaid Challis ; 4A pairs of Sheets, marked ' O. A.' in red cotton in corner; a Counterpane, strengthened with a piece of calico on the inside of each corner ; 2 Pillow Cases, marked ' O. A.'; and 2 work Bags, such as are used by children, made of small check gingham. A reward of .£ 10 will be paid for such information as shall lead to the convic- tion of the offender or olieudera on application at the City Police Office, Worcester.— Bow- street, Decerab. r 8. Between 10 p. m. the 3rd, and 6 a. m. the 4th instant, St Paul's School Room, Macclesfield, was broken into and stolen therein : an 8- day Timepiece, 2 feet 3 inches long, and 8A inches wide, with square front, curved at the bottom, and glass door iu front of pendulum, maker— Cornforth, Mac- clesfield ; also a plain baize Table Cover, 5 feet by 4 feet, and a woman's dark blue woollen Handkerchief with fringe. Information to be given to Head Constable Etchells, Maccles- field, Cheshire.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen between 5 and 6 p. m. on the 5tli instant, from a jeweller's shop iu Halifax, by means of cutting out a square of glass from the window, the following articles : five diamond Rings, one cf which contained a stone weighing 2 carat ; thirty gold wedding Rings, with ' J. & J. W.' stamped on iuside of each ; four silver lever Watches, Nos. on inside of inner cases 4514, p- n, 4- 15, 6832, m- et, 4- 5, 5868, m- et, 4- 5, aud 2052, m- en, 4- 5 ; a Geneva lever Watch, No. 37123, m- jm, 3- 5 ou inside of case ; two Geneva Watches, Nos. 27519 and 27525, and en/- 28/- on inside case of each. Ou the night of the 28th ultimo a Police Constable found two men committing a burglary at the mansion of the Prince Bat thy any, at Newmarket, and one was apprehended and committed for trial : he gave his name WILLIAM THOMPSON, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh complexion, full grey eyes, brown hair, moustache and beard round chin, side face shaven, regular features and oval face, has a small scar on right wrist aud on left thumb ; dressed iu black round high hat, brown cloth double- breasted overcoat, with brown velvet collar, brown silk lining and buttons, bouble- breasted brown cloth underccat, very short aud cut- away, with side flap pockets and right breast pocket, brown velvet collar and brown braid binding, brown mixture trousers with dark browu stripe down the sides, double- breasted black vest with bone buttons, red aud black check woollen shirt, a white collar, and small black silk tie, side- spring boots with buttons on, thick soles, and heels 2 inches high ; had in his possession a powerful jemmy, chisel, wedge, and had flannel slippers over his shoes. The man who es- caped is supposed to be rather taller, and dressed iu grey or light clothes, with black round hat. Absconded, charged on a warrant with forgery : ANDRE GIRAUD, a Frenchman, late of Lefevre- road, Bow, 50 years of age, dark sallow complexion, grey hair, whiskers, and moustache, dark eyes, moderate build, aud stoops a little ; generally wears dark clothes, loose overcoat, and black billy- cock hat. £ 101) reward will be paid for his apprehension. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Northwich, on the 6th iustaut : a silver lever hunting Watch, No. 15883. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Rowbottom, or to Inspector Hindley, Police Station, Northwich, Cheshiie.— 1 Bow- street, December 10. Stolen on the 19th ult., from the person of a gentleman in Manchester : a gold patent lever hunting Watch, engine turned, makers— Finer aud Nowland, Ilolborn, London,' No. 3804, and the greater portion of a gold curb Albert Guaid. £ 10 reward will be paid upon the apprehension aud convic- tion of the offender or offenders and recovery of the property. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at about 11 p. m. on the night of the 2ud iustaut, in the parish of Melton Mowbray : a gentleman's gold Watch, No. 333, maker William Green, Grantham. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Platts, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.— j Bow- street, December 5. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, in the borough of Stalybridge, on the evening of the 3rd instant : a wash i leather Purse, containing 5 Sovereigns, a Spade Ace Guinea, and a Half Guinea. By a tramp, cotton weaver, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, stout, and full i dissipated looking face : dressed in tweed jacket, moleskin. trousers, blue cloth hook- down cap, and clogs : frequents low j beerhouses, and sings comic songs. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field at Holmer- green, iu the parish of Little Misseuden, during the night of the 5th instant : a dark brown mare Donkey, about 6 years old, iu good condition, stout in the belly, aud supposed to be in foal, has the hair rubbed off both sides, and a little white on the nose. Infor- mation to be giveu to Inspector Moore, Police Station, Chesham, Bucks.— Bow- street, December 12. Stolen form a meadow at Boxhill Farm, Dorking, during the night of the 9th instant, the property of Frederick Charles Rickards : a black strong nag Mare, iu foal, 15 hands 3 inches high, rather weak in the fore legs, shoes off behind ; also a bay mare Ponv, aged, about 12 or 13 hands high, rough coat, and lame. Information to be given to Superintendent Lambert, Surrey Constabulary, Dorking.— Bow st, Dcc. 12. Description of a Horse, supposed stolen, detained by the Birmiugbam Police : a brown or bay gelding, aged, about 15 hands 1 or 2 inches high, nearly thoroughbred, black lees, black nostrils, has a white mark on off side of crest near top, was without shoes, in very good condition, and appears to have been lyiug out; was brought to Birmingham on the 5th instant. Information to be given to Chief Constable Glossop, Birmingham.— Bow- street, December 10. Stolen on the night of the 6th instant, from a field near Nuneaton, the property of Mr. Joseph Hood: a thorough- bred brown Mare, 5 years old, 15 hands high, black legs, white mark on back near the crest, burn mark on each fore hoof near the to]) ; has been traced iu the direction of Bir- mingham. Information to be given to Superintendent Austiu, Nuneaton, Warwickshire.— Bow- streit, December 8. Further description of the Horse stolen from Halnaker, near Chichester, on the night of the 20th ultimo : the hair of the mane was much rubbed. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender and recovery of the horse. Information to be given to Superintendent Pratt, West Sussex Constabulary, Chichester.— Bow- street, December 8. Description of SAMUEL ROBERTS, alias SAMPSON ROBERTS, alias BROWN, alias SAM SMITH, late of No. 2, Latimer- mews, Notting- liill, charged with Horse- stealing : he is 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, thia face, fair complexion, light hair, whiskers, and moustache ; usual!/ dresses in a dark brown cloth coat, hip pockets and raised seams, buttoned across the breast, dark cloth vest, trimmed with velvet, aud white pearl buttons, cord trousers fitting tight to the leg, lace- up boots, and black billycock hat, which he wears very much over his eyes, and the brim turned down in front, occ? siona! ly wears a dark grey tweed suit ; he attends horse fairs, travelling the country, and encam'piL - in a van or tent; is well known in Kent and the adjoining counties, and is accompanied by his wife and four children. Information to be given to Superintendent Hedger, Berks Constabulary, Abingdon, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 8. Description of a mau charged with stealing a Horse out of a stable at Gelligriolen, in the parish of Llanfor, near Bala, on the night of the 3rd instant ( horse recovered at Wrexham, having been sold) : 20 or 21 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slender build, light brown hair, rather long face, small light whiskers, speaks English very imper- fectly, and had the appearance of a farm servant; dressed in black jimcrow hat, black cloth coat much faded, with linen jacket or slop underneath, black cloth vest, cotton cord trousers, much worn, and elastic- side boots. Information to be given to Sergeant Williams, Corwen, Merionethshire. Bow- street, December 8. Found in the possession of a man near Penkridge, at 9- 30 a. m. ou the 2ud instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a bay mare Cob, about 14 hands high, rising 4 years old, half bred, tail cut square, white maik on off' side of fore- head, half- moon shaped, slightly broken on near knee, in low conditiou, and very quiet. The man who has absconded is about 19 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, b'ght complexion, I slender make, has lost the third and fourth fingers from j the right hand, a labourer, and a native of Haughton, near Stafford; dressed in a dirty brown tweed or cloth stable jacket, white slop underneath, moleskin or cord trousers, and an old billycock bat, turned up at the sides ; he is fond of low company. The cob is iu the possession of the Police at Pen- kridge' awaiting identification. Information to bo given to Deputy Chief Constable Disney, Stafford, or to Sergeant Barrett, Police Station, Penkridge, Stafford.— Bow- sueet, December S. Stolen from a field near Kemble Wick, since the 1st ins., the property of Mr. William Robert Peacey : a wether Teg, about 14^ lbs., of the longwool breed, has a piece cut out of eud of offside ear, and may have a punch mark in one ear. Iuformati- n to be given to Superintendent Woodman, Malms- bury, Wilts.— Bow- street, December 5. Stolen on the 3rd instant, from a field in Bradwell: two year old cart Colts, one bay, one brown, black legs, and both have small white specks on the face. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Constabulary Station, Middlewich, Cheshire.— Bow- street, December 5. Description of a mau who gave the name of GEORGE MASON, of Stourbridge, who has absconded, charged with stealing a Mare, on the 27th ultimo, the property of Rowland Dunn, of Quarry Bank, in the parish of Kingswinford, since recovered : lie is about 5 feet 5 ius. high, sallow complexion, sunken eyes, rather thin made, light hair, and small whiskers; dressed iu a vest witn sleeves, light trousers, with stripes down the side, and has the appearance of a carpet weaver. Information to be given to Superintendent Mills, Police Office, Brierley Ilill, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 5. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen in Crewe about 3 p. m. on the Sth iustaut: a pair of light cord Trousers; a single- breasteol Waistcoat of the same material; a red and black woollen Shirt ; a pair of light- coloured Stockings ; and a pair of blucher Boots ; the right boot has a new patch ou the right side, and one ou the left side of the heel. By a won an about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build ; had on a bonnet which fits close to the head, a black shawl, and a dirtv brown dress; her left eye is black from a blow, she had a child in her arms about 3 years old, and left Crewe by the 3.40 ji. ni. train, was seen iu Nantwich about 5 p. m. the same day, where she enquiied the way to Malpas ; she is well know'n in Denbighshire; her husband is a p; unter and left her in Crewe on the 7th instaut; she said that she had walked from Oswestry. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Police Station, Crewe, Cheshiie.— Bow- street, December 12. Charged on a warrant with embezzlement : RICHARD CORK, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion, proportionate mane, red hair, cut short and curled at sides, blue eyes, no whiskers or moustache, one leg ( supposed the right) crooked, deformed hip, aud walks very lame; he was formerly a baker's van driver. £ 1 reward will be paid on his apprehension. Information to be given at the Detective Office, Cheap- side, Manchester.— Bow- street, December 12. Absconded on the 29tli ultimo, charged on a warrant with embezzling money belonging to William Francis, a butcher : HENRY CHITTENDEN, a butcher, about 22 yrs. of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, light blown hail, few whiskers round face, of clean appearance; generally wears au imitation sealskin cap, or hard felt hat. Description of GEORGE HEIGHS, late of Gray's Thurrock, who absconded on the 1st instant, charged that being the Relieving Officer to the Orsett Poor Law Union, he embezzled several sums of Money; 43 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, whiskers slightly grey, and moustache. It is supposed that he will emigrate. Information • to be givCn to Inspector Freeman, Constabulary Station, Orsett, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 12. EDWARD WILLIAM BELLIS, advertised in the Police Gazette of the 8th instant, charged with stealing from his employer at High Wycombe, has been committed for trial at the ensuing quarter sessions at Aylesbury, on the 5th proximo. Information to be given to Superintendent Sargent, < ounty Constabulary, High Wycombe, Bucks.— Bow- street, December 12. Charged on a warrant with embezzling £ 50 belonging to Messrs. Wylie and Lochhead, coach hirers, & c., Glasgow ISAAC BATESON, collector of accounts, 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, light brown whiskers, beard and mous- tache, pockpitted, aquiline nose, and has lost two front teeth; dressed iu light overcoat and felt hat; he is an Englishman, and his wife belongs to Hereford; he absconded on the 1st October last. Information to be given to Chief Constable McCall, Glasgow, Scotland.— Bow- street, December 10. Absconded from Middlesborough on the Gth instant, charged with stealing a silver lever Watch, No. 6532 ; a tweed Vest; a Muffler,' dogs' heads with a whip in their mouths on it; and a brown leather Purse, containing £ 1 19s. : ROBERT THOMPSON, about 55 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh looking, bayonet wound on one cheek, hair turning grey, grey whiskers ; dressed in old tweed coat and trousers, old cap and boots ; has been in the Navy, but now works as a labourer, is a native of the north, but is supposed to have a wife aud family about Gravesend. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Constable Saggerson, Middles- borough, Yorkshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, December 10. Absconded from Saffron Walden, ou the 1st instant, charged with embezzlement: ALFRED T. ROWAN, clerk, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown hair, fresh complexion, dark grey eyes, very slight whiskers and moustache, has a slight twitching of the eyes, generally has red spots on face and neck, aud of respectable appear- ance ; supposed dressed in round crown black felt hat, dark blue cloth double- breasted pilot coat, dark cloth trousers, and side- spring boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Flood, Newport, or to Inspector. Allen, Saffron Walden, Essex, who holds a Warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 8. Absconded on the 2nd instant, charged with embezzling £ 5 5s., the money of his employer : a youth, 17 years of age, 5 feet G inches high, dark complexion and hair, thin features, and downcast expression ; dressed iu a black cloth coat, dark trousers, imitation sealskin vest, and black felt hat — Metro- politan Police, C Division, December S. Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from a bed- room at the Nor- wood- arms Inn, Cheltenham : a lady's long gold watch Chain, snake pattern ; a gold Brooch, shape— four or six half moons ; and a gold Ring, set with turquoise and coral. By a man who slept at the inn ou the two previous nights ; about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 5 iuches higfi, thin make, clean face, fair complexion, aud rather light hair; dressed in high silk hat, dark overcoat, dark trousers, and has the appearance of a butler. On the same day he pledged a gold Ring, stolen with the above- mentioned articles, at Gloucester, in the name of Charles Clarke, and gave his address Oxford- street, Worcester, which is false. Information to be given to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucester.— Bow- street, December 8. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 105 : JOHN MACKAY HENDERSON, late a clerk in the Union Bank of London : he is 45 yeais of age, 5 feet 6 iuches high, brown hair, slightly turning grey, fair complexion, not much colour, sharp quick eyes, scanty whiskers, beard, and moustache, speaks with a Scotch accent, and is a native of Dundee. Absconded from Hallatrow, Somersetshire : WILLIAM HURFORD, Station Master on the Great Western Railway, charged with embezzling various sums of money: he is 31 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, dark brown hair, full face, hazel eyes, limps a little in walking; dressed iu black bowler hat, blue coat, blue vest, dark trousers, side- spring boots, with imitation buttons. lie may seek employ- ment on some line of railway. Information to be given to Inspector Liddiard, Great Western Terminus, Bristol, or to Superintendent Emson, Somerset Constabulary, Temple Cloud, near Bristol, who holds a warrant for his apprehen- sion.— Bow- street, December S. Description of a man f., r whose apprehension a warrant is issued, who gave the name of WILLIAM JOHNSON, alias SAMUEL COOPER charged with stealing from a bedroom of the Lord Raglan Inn, Horncastle, £ 8 in Gold, £ 5 iu Silver, and an old brown leather double Purse, on the 4th iustant : he is about 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, hair, moustache, aud whiskers ( small), and rather largo nose ; dressed iu a blue pilot cloth jacket, dark waistcoat, tweed trousers, striped woollen shirt, lace- up boots, aud black soft billycock hat ; he sometimes calls him- self a sadler, at other times a joiner, and talks about Bir- mingham and Coventry ; he lodges at public- houses. He pawned a stolen Watch at horncastle, left on the 4th instant, and was traced to Spalding on the 5th. Information to be given to Superintendent Jarvis, Police Station, horncastle, Lincolnshire.— Bow- street, December 8. Stolen from the cottage occupied by William Plant, at Pigstock, near Newport, Salop, on the 1st instant: an old silver verge Watc1-, having some inscription on outside case ; a pair of men's lacc- up Boots, sprigged and toe- capped, brass eyelet holes, aud loop behind ; a dark blue beaver Coat; a black cloth ditto; a black clotli Vest; a pair of black and brown narrow striped Trousers aud Vest ; a ditto blue and black broad striped Ditto ; a white open Slop with brass buttons ; a calico Shirt with linen front; a plain ditto Ditto ; a silk Scarf, blue on one side and yellow on the other, with flowers; 2s. 3d. in Money; some Bread ; and 2^ lbs. of Cheese. By two tramps : one young and very short, the other about 40 years of age, and tall; one light, the other dark complexioned. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Haines, Whitchnrch, or to Sergeaut Howells, Market Drayton, Salop.— Bovi- stmt, December 5, Description of JAMES GOODHALL, a labourer, who absconded from Eccleston en the night of the 28th ultimo, charged with stealing two pairs of Boots at, Eccleston, 28 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy hair and whiskers meeting under the chin, peculiar- looking about the eyes, and has a deformed thumb ; dressed in dirty- white slop, an old pair of woollen cord trousers, black felt hat, and blucher boots. The Boots have been found sold at a second hand shop iu Chester. Information to be given to Sergeant Palic, County Police, Waverton, near Chester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, iVov. 5. Absconded from Newton Abbot, on the 17th ultimo, charged with embezzling £ 50, moneys of his master, Joseph Sanders Burton, auctioneer aud licensed hawker : ROBERT ORMOND MUTTON, about 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 iuches high, black hair, small dark whiskers, slight dark moustache, grey eyes, has a wart under the left eye, one on the chin, and one on the ear, slightly built, has a mark on tli, e neck, and is slightly pockmarked ; dressed when seen near Bodmin on the 25th ultimo in a dark overcoat, dark trousers, and black round felt hat. Ten per cent, on the amount recovered will be paid for his apprehension. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Vaughan, Devon Constabulary, Torquay, or to Sergeant Nicholls, Town Hall, Newton Abbot, Devon, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, December 5.
