FOLIC Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear tbe Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be mado and addressed to MB. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. A servant was disturbed and came down stairs, and saw a man of the following description in the house : a stout built man, about 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, had a large greyish beard, ard had on a low felt hat, and a long dark overcoat. The property was conveyed away in a twig basket. Information to be given to Superintendent Raby, Great Witley, Worcestershire.— Bow- street, Nov. 26. During the night of the 21st instant, the offices of Madeley Wood Company, near Madeley, Salop, were bur- glariously broken into and several drawers and iron safes were broken open. A reward of £ 50 is offered by the Madeley Wood Company for such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. A small lantern and several housebreaking tools were left behind by the thieves. During the night of the 18th instant, the shop of Mr. F. Stanford, at St. John's Hill, Sevenoaks, was broken iDto and entered, and the following articles stolen : five silver horizontal Watches, jewelled, one, private mark on inside authority. GIRAUD, a Frenchman, late of Lefevre- road, Bow, 56 years | Between 7 a. m. and 5 p. m. on the 18th instant, the of age, dark sallow complexion, grey hair, whiskers, and cottage of Robert Rand, in the parish of Ridlington, Oxford- moustache, dark eyes, moderate build, and stoops a little ; sljiae, was broken into during the absence of the family, and generally wears dark clothes, loose overcoat, and black billy- j the following articles of wearing apparel stolen therein : a cock hat. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City dark doth Coat ; a grey mixture Vest; a pair of Trousers, of London Police, Detective Department, No. 26, Old Jewry, same material; a hard felt Hat ; and an old black shawl with E. C.— Bow- street, November 26. fringe, a nearly new common Prayer Book was in one of the pockets of the coat. Supposed to have beeu committed by a tramp, who was seen near the cottage about 11 a. m., about 5 feet 4 inches high ; dressed in a light pair of trousers, and grey jacket. Information to be given to Inspector Bowen, County Police Station, Woodstock, Oxon.- Bow- st., Nov. 21. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. On the evening of the 23rd instant, a cottage at New- market, was broken and entered, and six tea Spoons, marked • S. F. R.'; a Sovereign; and a Half Franc Piece stolen therein. A glazier's diamond and a |- inch chisel was used. A reward of ,£ 10 will be paid to any person giviug such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING Stolen from a field at Chasetown, on the night of the 22nd instant : a black Mare, aged, about 15 bauds liigh, blaze down forehead, off hind foot white, and a lump on the near knee, the property of Mr. Vickers, butcher, Queen- street, Chasetown. Last seen about 12 p. m. on the 22nd instant, at ~ ' Wharf. Between 11 p. m. on the 15th and 7 a. m. on the 16th inst., • the dwelling- house of Amon Anscombe, builder, Lindfield, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : two silver Thimbles ; a silver Table Spoon, marked ' J. R.', date about 1747 ; a good black cloth Overcoat, velvet collar, pockets behind, one inside breast pocket, and a small iicket pocket in front at the waist; a pair of woman's Boots, new; a pair of Eye- glasses, in gold frames; two bull's- eye Lanterns, new ; a small Timepiece, in brass frame ; two small pyramid marble Chimney Ornaments ; two glaziers' Diamonds, one damaged ; two pairs of Scissors; six electro- plated Spoons, marked 4 A. E. A.;' seven Dessert and three Table ditto, all marked ' A. E. A. f two Salt ditto; a gold Clasp, cut from elastic watch guard ; from five to six dozen new Pocket Kuives, various ; and about £ 5 in Gold, Silver, and Copper. During the niglit of the 24th instant, the residence of tbe Rev. James Moilliet, situate at Abberley, in the county of Worcester, was broken into and entered, and the following property stolen : eighteen silver Spoons, nine table, and nine dessert ; fifteen silver Forks, nine large and six small ; six silver tea Spoons ; a silver butter Knife ; a silver gravy Spoon ; a pair of silver sugar Tongs, the whole of the above marked'J. M.'; a plated cream Jug ; a plated soup Ladle; two plated Teapots ; four plated egg Spoons; and two plated Stolen from a field at Rorrington, parish of Clunbury, Salop, since the 17th instant, the property of Mr. Jessie Haines, farmer : two cross- bred yearliug wether Sheep, with a punch mark through right ear, and the letter ' H.' on left thigh. Information to be given to Superintendent Caswell, Shrewsbury, or to Sergeant Williams, Worthen, Shropshire. Bow- street, November 28. Stolen from Boxted, near Colchester, on the 21st instant: a cream colour mare Pony, 3 years old, about 12 hands high, long mane and tail, and supposed to be marked with a ' W.' on the withers, shod but not broken. Information to be given to Superintendent Daunt, County Police Station, Col- chester.— Bow- street, November 28. Further information respecting the Horse stolen from Southam on the night of the 14th, advertised iu the Police Gazette of the 19th instant: it is a dark bay or brown nag Gelding, 7 years old, 15 hands 3 inches or 16 hands high, black legs, has two splints on near foreleg, which he throws round in a peculiar manner, and a small patch of white on front of one hind foot. Two men were seen near the field at 4 p. m. : one about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high ; dressed in long brown coat, light cord trousers with leggings, and high hat : the other 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, 45 or 50 years of age, and very much pitted with the smallpox; had in his possession a flag basket, also a mackintosh and stick ; a photograph of this mail can be had. £ 20 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as shall lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Superintendent Palmer, Rugby, or to Inspector Walker, Southam, Warwickshire. Bow- street, November 28. Stolen oa the 19th instant, from a field near the old church, Handsworth, Staffordshire, the property of Mr. S. Taylor, butcher, Lozells, Birmingham : a two- year old red roan mare Colt, with very light mane and tail, and a little white just above one hind foot. .£ 10 reward will be paid for information that will lead to the conviction of the offender or offenders, and recovery of the Colt. Information to be given to Sergeant Steele, Constabulary Office, Handsworth, near Birmingham.— Bow- street, November 26. The bay roadster Mare which was stolen at Ormskirk and advertised in Police Gazette of tbe 24th instant, haa been recovered, having been sold in Liverpool by a man of the following description : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, round full face, whiskers shaved off, small tuft of beard at end of chin of about three weeks growth, and grey hair ; dressed in a long black coat and vest ( such as is worn by grooms), both very greasy and dirty, and old snuff- coloured cap with soft peak. Informa- tion to be given at the ( Constabulary Office, Ormskirk, Lancashire.— Bow- street, November 26. Stolen on the 21st instant, from a stable in Manchester, a brown Cart Horse, about 15i hands high, aged, white mark down the face, three white legs, hair rubbed off the rump, looks rough in his coat, and in low condition ; with a Bridle, a brass in fr^ nt, chain pattern. By JOHN PADLEY, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches 1 igh, brown hair, grey eyes, no whiskers, long thin face, and round shoulders ; generally dressed in black cord trousers and clogs, and has the appearance of a labourer. £ 1 reward will be paid upon the apprehension and conviction of the said John Padley and recovery of the horse. Information to be given at thf Detective Office, Town Hall, Manchester, Lancashire.— Bent- street, Nove'ihbjr 26. Stolen on the night of the 23rd inst., from the premise of the Crown Inn, Cattawade, Brantham, Suffolk: a light iron- grey Mare, 8 or 10 years old, thick- set, chipped knees, arched on forelegs, a fresh, good looking mare, the rop- rty of Robert Allard, of Bedfield, dealer. Supposed by J mail, 3") or 36 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark brown liair; very shabbily dressed. Information to be given to Superintendent Fisher, Constabulary Office, Ipswich, or to Sergeant Farthing, East Bergholt, Suffolk.— Bow- strut, No- vember 26. Stolen from Hamaker, near Chichester, on the night the 20th instant : a bay cart Horse, white blaze down face, black clean legs, collar mark, and long tail, about 15 hands I 3 inches high, the property of Mr. George Juer Bailey. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Pratt, West Sussex | Constabulary, Chichester.— Bow- street, November 24. Stolen on the 10th instant, from a field near Pwllhelig, iu the parish of Llantwitmajor, Glamorganshire : a Colt ana , Filly, sucklings, iron grey colour, the property of Mr. Morgan Jones, Llantwitmajor. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Sadler, Constabulary Office, Bridgend.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen early on the morning of the ISth instant, from a field in Macclesfield, a heavy dark brown horse Colt, rising 4 years old, about 16J hands high, a little white down the nose, hair rubbed off the bottom of the neck near the breast, black flat legs, long back, switch tail, full mane, and without shoes. Supposed by a man about 35 years of age, 5 feet S or 9 inches high, slender make, sallow complexion, large Roman • nose, and small whiskers ; dressed in a dirty grey overcoat, cord trousers, and black billycock hat. He was traced to a j smithy in Gawsworth, where he had the horse shod with a new set of flat shoes, stamped ' W. Holland,' he then had a saddle and bridle on the horse, and a short whip in his band. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension aud conviction of the offender and recovery of the horse. Information to be given to Head Constable Etchells, Macclesfield, Cheshire.— Bow- street, No- vember 21. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a sloop lying at Sharpness Point, during the night of the 21st instant, the following articles of wearing apparel : a pilot Coat; a blue Guernsey, nearly new, marked ' H. C.'; a black cloth Vest ; a soft felt Hat; aud two pairs of half- wellington Boots, since recovered, excepting a guernsey. By a man of the following description : 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, sandy whiskers under chin, and moustache ; there was an old black coat left behind. This man answers the description of the man who robbed the pilot boat on the ISth August, at Sharpness Point, and has beeu traced to Bristol, where he committed a robbery the followiug night from liis lodgings. Information to be giveu to Super- intendent Dursley, or Constable Hawkins, Police Station, Purton, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, November 28. Absconded, on the 22nd instant, charged with stealing an old- f; ishioned silver Watch, No. 1502, steel chain attached, ARTHUR BYE: is 17 years of age, middle height, fair complexion, brown hair ; dressed in dark- blue cloth jacket, cord trousers, and billycock hat.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, November 28. Description of HAROLD SMITH, who is charged with embezzling the sum of £ 23, the property of Mr. Jeffreys, of Ashling, near Chichester : he is 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 or S inches high, full blotchy face, and anchor ou left arm; I dressed iu a black soft hat, slop or jumper, cord trousers, and 8 FOLIUM ( jr A Z K L T E. Stolen from 4he dwell fri^- house of Isaac Gowshall, of Gainsborough, during the night of the 23rd instant: a silver verge Watch, common steel Chain, with a brass Seal and three Keys attached, one of which has ' Woolsey,' stamped thereon. By a lodger, who left the house at 4 a. in,, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark completion, hair, whiskers, aud moustache, very large nose, which is rather purple at the end, states that he was a joiner, and took work at the foundry in Gainsborough ; dressed in a pilot cloth coat, bound round with broad braid, tweed trousers and vest, yellow striped ^ hirt, saft. black billveock JiaL Mid lace- itf boots. ELIZA BOWLES, wife of the above named Richard Bowles, 34. years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, Mng £ r< sh coloured face, dark eyes aud hair, aud stoat figure ; dressed in black or brown silk dress, paisley shawl, ami dark velvet bonnet, with white feather hanging down behind. GEORGE COLE, 24 years of age, about 5) feet 7 inches high, swarthy complexion, dark hair, and slight figure ; dressed in dark coat and trousers, light waistcoat, brown overcoat, nearly new, round hat, and side- spring bpots. Description of JOHN PHILLIPS, labourer, late of Willenhall, Staffordshire, charged with stealing from the dwelling- house of Joseph Bristoe, grocer, of Willenhall, on the 24th instant: one brown plaid Coat, aud one blue pilot Overcoat; also a patent lever Watch, maker's name Isaac Belcher, Birmingham, No. 13990; a silver guard Chain, a suit of black cloth Clothes ; half a dozen nick- el silver Tea- spoons, ' 50' in figures on the back of s ® me of them, and the letter ' B.' inside a calico Shirt, a Necktie, and 10s. in Silver & Copper: about 87 y rs. of age, 5 ft. G ins. high, pale complexion, dark hair and whiskers meeting under chin, rather stout ; has a small kell on left eye, tattoo ed on left wrist in imitation of a bracelet, and tattooed on one finger of left hand ; rather bow- legged ; formerly belonged to the 5th regiment of Foot. In- formation to be given to Inspector Gasson, Police Station, Willenhall, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, who holds a • warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Xovcmber 28. Description of two men charged with stealing ,£ 150Cj from Manchester : DANIEL SANDBACH, 23 years of age, but looks younger, 5 feet 7 inches high, pale looking, slender made, brown hair cut very short, no beard or whiskers; dressed in rough tweed suit, tweed overcoat, pot hat, and of gentlemanly appearance. LOUIS SIMON GILLMAN, 19 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair cut very short, no whiskers, pale looking, sharp nose, thick lips, slender made ; dressed in brown cloth coat and billycock hat, walks with a smart, jaunty air. They were seen together about 1 p. m., the 22nd instant, in Manchester, and it is supposed they were then leaving the City, haviag with them a travelling bag eich, they will no doubt endeavour to emigrate. £ 50 reward will be paid on conviction of the offenders and recovery of the Money, or in proportion, to the amount, recovered. Description of WALTER WICKENS, a native of Basingstoke, wbn is wanted for stealing Fowls valued at 8s., the property of E. Portsmouth, on the 23rd instant ( since recovered) : he is 23 years o£ age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, full face, fresh complexion, no whiskers or moustache, dark browu hair, aud is a groom ; dressed in brown bowler hat, worn rather backwardly, dark eoat, light breeches, and brown short leather gaiters, and is a convicted thief. Infor- mation to be given to Head Constable Hibberd, Basingstoke, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- st., Nov. 2( i. Description of JOSEPH KIME, of Binbrooke, veterinary surgeon, who is charged with stealing three stones weight of Barley Meal, the property of William Dixon, at Binbrooke, about 8' 30 p. m. on the 21st instant : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, sallow rough; complexion, dark hair, thin dark whiskers, blue ayes, rather sunken, is rather an awkward walker, aud takes very long strides ; dressed iu a short pepper- and- salt- coloured coat, dark mixture cloth vest aud trousers, black billycock hat, bright leather leggings, and strong lace- up boots, with brass eyelet- holes, well nailed, and nearly new. Information to be given to Superintendent Henson, Market Basen, Lincolnshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- streit, November 26. Description of WILLIAM CARTER, hawker, late of Bluntisham, Hunts, charged with larceny at St. Ives, on the 6th ultimo : about 46 years of age, 5 feot 7 er 8 inches high, sandy hair, high cheekbones, bald on top of head, ship tattooed on each breast and arms, also ring ou one finger, has a curl on each side of face, and his hair curls " behind ; he has been a soldier, is supposed to have a pedlar's certificate granted by Chief Constable Bicnell, Lincoln, and is supposed to be in Grimsby or Halifax. Information to bo given to Superin- tendent Spencer, St. Ives, Hunts, who holds a warrant for his apjirehension.— Bow- sireet, November 2G. Absconded on the 17th instant, JAS. CRITCHLOW, charged with stealing a silver verge Watch, a pair of cord Trousers, a pair of Boots, and two pocket Handkerchiefs the property of George Harrison : about 29 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair, curly, dark whiskers, and light brown moustache, slightly poekpitted, and cut on upper lip ; late of Ballhay Green, Leek, a labourer; dressed iu black cloth jacket, cord trousers and vest, white slop, buttoned iu front, ' Sammy' hat, and strong lace- up boots. He formerly worked at the Bank- top Goods Shed in Manchester. While in Leek he was em- ployed as a butcher's assistant ; he left there on the 18th ius. iuid went to the Staffordshire Potteries, accompanied by three young men, colliers, who said they came from Smallthorne and Burslem. Description of WILLIAM REEVES, Na 133S7, who has broken the conditions of his licence, in not reporting himself to the Police on change of residence, was convicted at Dublin, in April Commission Assizes, on 10th April, 1S63 for horse stealing, and sentenced to 14 years penal servitude • he is 28 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark brown hair' grey and gettiug bald, hazel eyes, small nose, fair complexion,' round visage, stout make, by trade a cooper, prison trade shoemaker aud boatmau, a discharged soldier, a native of America, cut mark across left thigh, little above the knee, cut mark 011 cap of rightr knee, two small holes on small of back; he was released from Spike Island Prison on the 30th May, 1873, on an order of licence; he took his discharge for Uplyme, Devonshire, but left that district without reporting himself ; he appears in the Irish Hue and Cry of 18th November, 1873, under Kildare, charged with fowl stealing, & c.
