Notice.— It ia requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in referenoe to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. O. %• Whenever it is desirei that any person should be appre- hended, arid the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article : n the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor annst be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, I" all Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. At a coroner's inquest held at Brynmawr, on the 2nd instaut, on the body oi an infant child found in a pool of water on the 1st instant, a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' was returned against some person or persons unknown ; and on the 3rd iustant, MARY CHARLES, of Clydach- dingle, l< » ft her home in the parish of Llangattock : she is 22 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, long pale features, brown hair, dark eyes ; dressed in black velvet hat trimmed with velvet, long brown waterproof, black dress, and strong boots ; she is supposed to have her under clothes soiled. She has lived as servant at the Wellington Hotel, Gloucester, and was dis- charged from there on the 25th of June last, pregnant; she 1 has also lived at the Royal Hotel, Ross, and also at Monmouth ; since she left service she has been learning dressmaking. Her photograph may be seen on application to Police Con- stable ( 3) Wilson, Police Station, Brynmawr, Breconshire, who holds a warrant for her apprehension.— Dow- street, October 13. FORGERY. Description of THOMAS NOON, charged with forgery : he is 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, straight brown hair, slight brown whiskers, florid complexion, scar on nose, right hand quite white, left red and mottled and much smaller, one of his thumb nails much discoloured, well built, and good looking ; dressed iu high black hat, single- breasted melton walking coat and vest, grey mixture trousers, black sailor's knot lie, side- spring boots, military fronts ; has with him a black portmanteau, and black leather bag. Informa- tion to be giveu to Superintendent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— bow- street, October 15. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the night of the 9th instaut, from the person of Henry Cook, of Hutton Cranswick, in Shady- lane, Driffield : a gold lever Watch, gold dial, four holes jewelled, No. 28857, maker J. B. Dobson, Beverley. By two men and a woman; Cook was intoxicated, aud was in conversation with the woman, when the men came up, snatched his watch and made off: the woman is about 25 years of age, fair com- plexion, black hair, and stout i" ure ; dressed iu light print frock, black jackct, aud black bonnet with blue strings and pink flowers; one man is abont 28 years of age, 5 feet 9 ins. high, fair complexion, dark hair, no whiskers, slender figure ; dressed iu velvet shooting coat, and dark trousers ; the other man is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, dark hair, no whiskers, stout figure ; dressed inlight mixture coat aud trousers, aud duck jacket. Information to be given to Inspecter Harper, East Riding Constabularv, Great Driffield, Yorkshire.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen from the person of a gentleman, on the 7th inst. : a very old- fashioned Watch Case, painted enamelled back, with two rows of rose diamonds, had a keyless gold Watch and Case inside, with white dial. Information to be given to Head Constable Turrall, Borough Police Office, Cambridge. — Bow- street, October 10. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Stolen from the ' Ship' inn, at Castleford, Yorkshire, between 1 aud 7 a. m. on tbe 12th instant, by means of house- breaking : a Cash Box, containing about £ 50 in Gold and £ 4 in Silver; eight Promissory Notes for £ 25 each, payable on demand to William Midgley ; eight Certificates for Shares in the Castleford Glass Bottle Company, Limited, bearing the name of Charles Phillips, for £ 25 each ; four Certificates for Shares in the Castleford Gas Company, Limited, for £ 25 each, bearing the name of William Midgley; an Excise License, Wholesale Spirit, for 1873 and 1874 ; an unexecuted Agreement for £ 200, in Shares in the Castleford Glass Bottle Company, from Charles Phillips to William Midgley ; a stamped Transfer of the same, bearing a £ 1 stamp; and a Marriage Certificate, between William Midgley and Sarah Ann Newsham. Information to be given to Superintendent Hall, West Riding Constabulary, Pontefract.— Bow- street, October 15. Between 10 p. m. 11th and 9 a. m. on tbe 13th instant, the shop of Mr. Edward Brooks, tailor and draper, New Market- street, Blackburn, was broken and entered, and stolen therein : a new grey frieze cloth reefer Jacket, with a black a3tracan collar and cuffs, two pockets outside with flaps, a button on each hip for to button on a skirt, and lined with black twilled Italian cloth ; a brown mixture cloth frock Coat, part worn, single- breasted, two pockets outside and one inside left breast, covered buttons with cloth same as coat; a single- breasted Vest, of same material ; a man's black twilled cloth frock Coat, new, lined with grey tweed, two pockets behind, bound with mohair braid, black buttons, two buttons on each wrist; a new black silk Hat; ten or twelve yards of black Italian Cloth; and the first half of a £ 5 Bank of England Note, No. 85656. During the night of the 12th instant, the dwtlling house of Mr. Joseph Stirk, in Evington- lane, Leicestershire, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : 1 old- fashioned electro plated cake Basket, cf filigree pattern. 24 electro plated table Forks, twelve large nearly new, twelve small. 4 large old electro plated table Forks, one marked with the letter ' M.' 5 electro plated Spoons, three table, two salt. 1 round glass Dish, a piece of Bacon, aud about 9 lbs. of Beef. Information to be given at the County Constabulary Office, Leicester, or to Superintendent Burdett, Aylestone, near Leicester.— Bow- street, October 15. During the night of the 9th instant, the dwelling- house of the Bev. J. C. Gillings, in the parish of Northfleet, Kent, was broken aud entered, and stolen therein : a black cloth Overcoat, pockets behind and one inside left breast; a black Shawl; a black and white ditto ; a pair of lace- up Shoes, brass eyelets with hooks at top ; and a wicker ' Basket with two handles. Information to be given to Superintendent Coppinger, Kent County Constabulary, Chatham, or to Ser geant Barnes, Northfleet, Kent.— Bow- street, October 13. During the night of the 7th instant, the shop of Mr. Wm. Daynes, draper, of Brentwood, was broken into, and stolen therein : ten light- coloured silk Pocket- handkerchiefs ; a quantity of Ribbons, of various colours ; several pieces of cotton ribbon Velvet; several pieces of coloured sarcenet Silk ; a red aud green Carpet Bag ; two brown silk Umbrellas; aud two brown tweed frock Coats. By two men of tbe following description, who were traced as far as Barking : one 25 years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, full face, fair complexion, small redish whiskers and moustache : dressed in dark clothes, and hard felt hat. The other about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, florid complexion, no whiskers, nose turned towards the right ; dressed in dark clothes, aud hard felt hat. Both had the appearance of mechanics ; one was carrying the stolen carpet bag, the other had a black leather bag. Information to be given at the Police Station, Brentwood, Essex.— Bow- street, October 13. 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high. Two men answering their descriptions were seen going through Ivey Hatch Gate, about 12 p. m. the same night, in the direction of Sevenoaks and London ; they are well acquainted with Notting Hill, London. Information to be given to Superin- tendent Dance, Police Court, Tonbridge, Kent.— Low- street, October 15. Stolen from a field at Lenithall Earles, Herefordshire, on the night of the 2ud instant : a brown Hereford Bullock, 18 months old, white face, short rough coat, rather curly, and iu good condition. Supposed to have beep taken away in a drove of cattle going fiom Knighton Fair in the direction of Hereford. £ 1 reward will be paid on conviction of the offender or offenders and recovery of the Bullock. Informa- tion to be given to Superintendent Dykes, Leominster, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, October 15. Stolen from a field at Lenton, Notts, on the night of the 7th instant: a black cart Mare, 16 hands high, long tail, white hind feet and hoofs, newly shod, abont 8 years old, the property of Mr. Day, proprietor of a travelling managerie. A man is suspected of stealing the same, about 40 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, having only one eye ; dressed in cord trousers. Information to be given to Superintendent Pale- thorpe, County Police Office, Nottingham.— Bou- ttreet, Oct. 13. Stolen during the night of the 4th instant, from a field at Hand * worth, the property of W. Mayner, Esq.: a dark brown Horse, 15 hands high, aged, near hind fetlock white, shaggy mane, which lies on the left side, switch tail, left forv knee a little swollen, and right flank has been torn. Infor- mation to be given to Sergeant Hackney, Staffordshire Con- stabulary, Handswortli, near Birmingham, Warwickshire.— — Bow- streel, October 13. Stolen from a field at Curdworth, the property of Mr. Stephen Richardson, at about 7 p. m. on the 6th in& tant: a bay cob sag Ho'se, about 14 hands 3 inches higli, black legs with little white on off hind fetlock, white star on forehead, switch tail, aud recently shod on both hind feet. £ 10 reward. Information to be given to Inspector Thomas, Coleshill Police Station, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, October 10. Stolen from a field at Pentretrewyn, near Corwen, on the night of the 24tli ultimo, the property of Simon Williams, cattle dealer, Corwen : six yearling Bullocks, rising 2 years old, sorae of them were black, the others brown and white. Information to be given at the Police Office, Corwen, Merionethshire.— Bonn- street, October 10. Supposed to have been stolen during the night of the 5th instant, from a field at Gospel End, Sedgley : a dark brown Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, a small white star on the forehead, long mane and tail, white hind legs, and in good condition, tho property of Eli Fox. Information to be given to Inspector Tomlinson, Police Office, Sedgley, Stafford- shire.— Bow- street, October 10. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Stolen from from a field at Olton, iu the parish of Solihull, Warwickshire, during the night of the 12th instant: a black mare Pony, aged, 13 hands high, broken knees, white star on forehead, some white marks on fore legs from wearing knee- caps, a few white hairs iu mane, aud bang tail; the property of Mr. Charles Elton. Also stolen on the same night: a bay cob Horse, aged, 14 hands high, some white saddle marks on back, white blaze on face, broken knees ; the property of Mr. Oliver Saunders, of Acocks Green. Information to be given to Inspector Welch, Warwickshire Constabulary, Solihull, or to Sergeant Webb, Acocks Green, Birmingham.— Bow- street, October 17. Stolen from a field at Cheltenham, during the night of the 11th instant, a dappled grey gelding Pony, 14 hands high, 24 years old. Information to be given to Superinten- dent Day, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.— Bow- street, Oct. 17. Stolen during the night of the 13th instant, from Ship- bourne, Kent: a dark brown light cart Mare, aged, white face, three white feet, the oil' fore foot black, and the hair rubbed oft' shoulders ; a light spring Cart, dirty green colour, with the name of ' James Glover, Wrotham, Kent' on it ; and two sets of harness, one nearly new, the other very ol. l. Supposed by two horse copers, who had been hopping iu the neighbourhood : one about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, clean shavsd, bad pn a light coat; the other about LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from the Dog and Gun beerhouse, Ely, about 9 a. m. on the 13th instant: a half Wrapper for the neck, white ground witu black spots, new. By a man who lodged there two nights, about 40 years of age, about 5 feet 11 ins. high, dark curly hair ; dressed in long black coat, and cap; he had a bundle with bim, and was traced to Waterbeach. Information to be given to Superintendent Smith, Ely, Cambs.— Bow- street, October 17. Absconded from Tunbndge, charged with stealing from the person £ 3 13s. 6d., at Wadhurst, Sussex, on the 3rd instaut: ALFRED BBIGGS, 22 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, light complexion, light hair, few whiskers and moustache, slight figure, residence Tunbridge Wells, and is a labourer ; dressed iu old snuff- coloured cloth jacktt, dark cloth vest, light trousers, and old light half boots. Infor- mation to be giveu at the Chief Constable's Office, Lewes, or to Superintendent Peerless, Police Station, Uckfield, Sussex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 15. Stolen from a dwelling- house in the borough of Dewsbury, on the 9th instant : about £ 100 in Gold. By a cab driver, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, fresh com- plexion, rather long face, slender make, leans forward when walking, large feet, no whiskers or moustache, and light brown hair; wheu last seeu he was wearing a black suit aud black silk hat, he lii- d also a grey suit with him, which he may be wearing. £ 5 reward will be paid to any person who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender and recovery of the money, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Absconded from Barton- upon- Humber on the 10th iust., charged with stealing an old red leather Purse, and £ 1 ISs., the property of Stephen Hanger : GEORGE HANGER, 14 years of agy, fair complexion, sandy hair, and full face ; dressed in old blue cloth coat, cord trousers, aud dark hairy cap without peak ; he may now be wearing a blue guernsey. He will probablv apply for a situation ou board some vessel or fishing smack. By a Woman, a tramp, about 30 years of age, middle height, very stout, full ved face, pug nose, and fair hair ; dressed in brown skirt and jacket, bare headed and bare footed. Stolen on the 1 Ith instant, at G p. m., the property of William Lanes, of Whitby ; a flannel Shirt; a Chemise; and a pair of Stockings, siuce recovered. By JANE WATSON, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet S inches high, fresh complexion, dark ever, black hair, and proportionately built; dressed in a light- coloured skirt, bound round bottom with black, some- times wears a brown skirt on the top, brown jacket, black bonnet, with yellow flowers and white glass beads in front, and black and white strings ; si> e stated that she belonged to York, and had walked from there to Whitby, where she arrived on the 7th instant; sue will probably ^ ppiy for employment as a kunclress. Absconded from Bollington, near Macclesfield, on the 20th ultimo, charged with embezzlement: FREDERICK AUGUSTUS WILLIAMS, alias COOK,, an autioneer's assistant., about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, and dark brown curly hair parted in the middle ; dressed in dark tweed clothes : has a ring ou the third finger of his left hand, aud a silver watch in his possession and plated albert Guard with long links attached. He is likely to be fouDd at some cheap Jack's establishment. One guinea reward will be paid for his apprehension. Absconded ftom Gloucester about the 21st August last, charged with embtzzling £( j 8s., the monies of Messrs. R. T. Smith and Co., of Gloucester, Railway Carriers : GEORGE BARNES, a carman, about 35 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 ins. high, sallow complexion, brown hair, sandy whiskers, lately cut off; generally dressed in a striped cricket cap, blue serge jacket, and corduroy trousers. Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester, who holds a war- rant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 13. Description of ROBERT WILSON HUMBLE, charged upon a warrant with embezzlement: about 2G years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, dark complexion, slight build, shaves clean, is a liitle lame in right leg, one little finger contracted, and has a birth mark on one arm as if a brush bad been drawn over it; dressed generally in black and a bhijk felt hat. Has friends at Cottingham, near Hail. Information to be given to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leeds, Yorkshire. Bow- st., October 13. Stolen from the dwelling- house of John Darcy, Maccles- field, on the 1st instant': £ 32 10s. in cash. By JOnN ROBINSON, fish hawker aud native of Stockport, 24 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches' high, stout, fresh complexion, light brown hair, and no whiskers ; dressed in black cloth jacket, cordurov trousers, and blue cloth cap, tied with ribbon on the top. And ABRAHAM BUTTERWORTH, labourer, 23 years ( if age, 5 feet 6 inches high, proportionate make, thin features, and is pockpitted, dressed in rough pilot jacket, white moleskin trousers, black billycock hat, and savs he is a native of Stockport. Information to be given to Head Con- stable Etchells, Macclesfield, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, October 13. Description of two men charged with stealing wearing Apparel from a cottage at Goidstoneheath ( as advertised iu the Police ( i izette of the 29th ultimo) : ROBERT ELLIOT, alias ROBTRT STAFFORD, alias JOHN GRESTY, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, light complexion, rather long features, and little beard or whiskers ; aud WILLIAM TURNER, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, with rather dark complexion. They tramp the country begging, and often stop for the night at Union workhouses. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Haines, Whitchurch, or to Sergeant Howells, Market Drayton, who holds a warrant for their apprehension.— Bow- street, October 13. Stolen from the dwelling- house of Ellen Brindley, Macclesfield, on the 9th instant : one dark lilac print. Dress, partly worn, woman's size; one black scarf Shawl, with ulack fringe ; one light striped woollen Shawl ; two pairs of women's white woollen ( new) Stockings, ; one white linen Apron ; one black Basket with two handles; one small gilt- edged Bible, aud one Prayer- Book. By two women, one of them is about 20 years of age, light complexioned and weak eyes ; the other is 30 years of age, dark complexion, and very masculine. Information to be given to Head Constable Etchells, Macclesfield.— Bow- street, October 13. Description of a gipsy named HENRY WHITE, alias STANLEY, charged with stealing, ou the night of the tith instant, four Fowls, the property of Misses Legg, in the parish of Fordington : about 24 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, very dark brown hair, very dark hazel eyes, sallow complexion, heavy eyebrows, dimple chin, several moles on right side of neck, cut on side of forefinger of left hand, and ; pp of left thumb flat; he generally travels about the West of England with other gipsies, mending cane and rush bottom chairs. He has been previously convicted of larceny in the county of Dorset. A gipsy named WILLIAM JAMES has been remanded until the 11th instant on the same charge. Information to be given to Superintendent Hare, Dorset Constabulary, Dorchester, who holds a warrant for White's apprehension.— Bow- street, October 10. Description of SIDNEY TASKER, late of Corsbam, Wilts, charged with embezzling various sums- o'f Money since May last : he' is apparently from- 28 to 30 years or age, about 5 feet high, rather thick- set, light complexion and hair, very little whiskers, aud has a sqeakiug voice ; is a baker, and is fond of singing in public aud beer- houses. Information to be given to Superintendent Wiltshire Chippenham, pr to Inspector Gerrard, Corsham, Wilts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October It). Stolen from Mr. Bradford, jeweller, Strand, Torquay, about 6 p. m. on the 7th instant, Itf two liieu i whilst examin- ing other rii^ s),' a lady's hall hoop diamond Ring, with three large and four small stones! oue is about 4T> years of age,, 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, is much pockmarked, and lias a foreign accent ; dressed a brown overcoat with brown velvet collar, dark trotisto, and high hat; wfeAvs Spectacles when examining anything ; the other is about 36 years of age, 5 feet 8k inches high, sandy whiskers aud moustache, chin shaved, fair complexion, sharp features, aud very affable in manner ; dressed in a daric coat with side- pockets, dark trousers, aid high hat.
