Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. W. D. BURNABY, the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that an Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all betters addressed to the Editor snust be firepal « i, otherwise the insertion will not be made, It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Pall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. On the 29th ultimo the body of a male infant Child was found on the sanda near Pettman's Bathing Establishment, Margate : a Coroner's Inquest was held on the 30th, and a verdict returned of Wilful Murder against some person or persons unknown. £ 50 reward will be paid by Her Majesty's Government to any person who shall give such information and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and conviction of the murderer or murderers : and the Secretary of State for the Home Department will advise the grant of Her Majesty's gracious pardon to any accomplice not being the person who actually committed the Murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Information to be given to Superintendent Compton, Town Hall, Margate.— Bow- street, September 26. Whereas, on the 5th instant and following days, various portions of the Body of a female were found in the River Thames, at Battersea, Chelsea, Lambeth, Limehouse, Green- wich, Blackwall, and Woolwich. Description of the Body : supposed about 40 years of age, stout, coarse skin, hair ( two inches long) thin aud dark, short nose ( thick aud round at the extremity), dark brown eyebrows, a thin line of dark hair on upper lip, mole on right side of neck, small pale coloured mole about an inch from right nipple, large white scar on centre of chest ( probably the result of a burn in childhood), small scar ( result of boil) on right arm, scar ( two inches in diameter, from ulcer, abscess, or wound) near knee on right side, perhaps of considerable standing, and ears pierced for ear- rings. General appearance that of a healthy woman. Information to be given to Superintendent Williamson, Detective Department, Great Scotland- yard, London, S. W., or at any of the Metropolitan Police Stations.— Dow- street, September 19. FORGERY. Absconded in November last, charged with forging a Cheque for £ 400 : EDWARD J. B. McVICAR, alias E. T. GOODWIN, late of No. 314, New Cross- road, London, 23 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, blue or grey eyes, no whiskers, moustache growing, rather thin, un- gentlemanly appearance, is addicted to drink, and has always a pipe in his mouth ; was in France and Spain in November and May last, but has returned to England. He is accom- panied by his wife, whose maiden name was Maria Theresa Perwinkler, 21 years of age, dark hair, moderately tall, very quick in her movements, and prominent front teeth. They have with them a Portmanteau, covered in white canvas, with brass nails. Information to be given at the Detective Department, Great Scotland- yard, London, S. W.— Bow- street, September 17. given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Constabulary Office, Gloucester.— Bow- street, September 22. Stolen from the person on the 18th instant, on the race course at Meopham : a gold Geneva Watch, engine turned, No. 7069, gold dial, chased, black steel hands, shield on centre of outside case. Information to be given to the Head Con- stable, Town Hall, Gravesend.— Bow- streel, September 22. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. During the night of the 23rd instant, a store room at the Old Park forge, near Wellington, Salop, was broken into, and about 4 cwt. weight of new and old mill Brasses of various sizes and patterns, were stolen therein ; the property of the Wellington iron and coal company limited. A reward of £ 10 will be paid for such information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. In- formation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Turner, Madeley, Salop.— Bow- street, September 26. Between the evening of the 20th, and lo o'clock on the morning of the 23rd instant, two contribution Boxes, attached to the West Aisle of St. Edmund's Church, Salis- bury, were broken epen, and their contents stolen therein. By a youth, apparently from 15 to 17 years of age, rather short aud stout, who stated at the house where he had lodged that he came from Wimborne, Dorset; dressed in a pair of plaid trousers, round speckled jacket, two dark waistcoats, low flat- crowned black hat, with narrow brim, and had strapped from the shoulder a canvas bag, containing a dark- coloured flute, with one German silver key, and a screw driver ; he carried iu the outside breast pocket a savings bank book, bearing the post office stamp ' Cranborue.' In formation to be given to Head Constable White, Salisbury, Wilts.— Bow- stroet, September 26. Stolen on the 18th instant, at Salehujst, Sussex, by housebreaking : a £ 5 Bank of England Note, supposed to have ' B. F. Huggett' on back ; 34 Sovereigns ; 25s. in Silver; a shilling's worth of Coppers; three plain gold wedding Bings; a silver hunting Watch, maker Attwood, Lewes; aud a small size German silver Watch. Supposed by a man, 50 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, red whiskers, stout figure; dressed in old black suit, high black hat, and carrying an old guano bag. Information to be given to Superintendent Jenner, Court House, Battle, or at the Chief | Constable's Office, Lewes.— Bow- street, September 24. During the night of the 17th instant, the County Lunatic Asylum at Stone, near Aylesbury, was broken and entered, and the following articles stolen therein : a small Timepiece, J in mahogany case ; a pair of Bilver Sugar Tongs, marked ' H.,' and repaired at the bow ; two coloured cotton Tablecloths, 1 one new, with red, yellow, and green stripes alternately, the other of a drab colour, stained in several places with ink ; and two pairs of dark tweed Trousers, partly made. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Denson, Aylesbury, Bucks.— Bow- street, September 22. Between 6 aud 8 p. m. on the 26th ultimo, the residence of the Rev. Carleton Greene, situate in the parish of High Wycombe, Bucks, was broken and entered during the absence of the family, and stolen therein : seven silver Tops from Dressing Case, two oblong shape, and five round, all engraved Jane;' an aluminium Watch, No. 17— 110; a small tube Latch Key, three inches in length ; and about 5s. in Silver j and Copper, from a Missionary Box. Information to be given to Superintendent Sargent, County Constabulary, High Wycombe, Bucks.— Bow- street, September 19. buttock. Information to be given to Superintendent Oliver, Durham County Constabulary, Conuett— Bow- street, Sept. 22. Stolen from the van ' Couise' at Walsall, during last week : a dark brown mare Pony, aged, 12 hands high, a line of black hair along iu back from neck to tail, and in good condition. Information to be given to Chief Constable Cater, Walsall, Staffordshire.— Bow- streel, September 22. BOBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person at the Gloucester Races on the 4th instant : a gold hunting Watch, maker name ' Le Roy' engraved on one side, with bridge of Geneva with persons walking and a horse prancing upon it, and on the other side, an elaborate engraving of a lion hunt. Information to be HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. Description of a man charged with having stolen a Horse at Sheffield, which he rode by Hope, Castleton, and Chapel- en- le- Frith, to Whaley- bridge, where he sold it at a public- house, on the 16th instant : he is about 50 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dirty looking, hump- backed, he walked with a crutch and stick, his right leg seeming shorter than the left ; dressed in a long dark coat, cord trousers, and billycock hat, but he may have bought other clothing since he sold the horse ; he left Whaley- bridge by train, but it is not known where he booked to. He was convicted at Derby County Sessions, January 3rd, 1872, for horse stealing, and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment; when iu custody at Derby he had in his possession a pedlar's certificate, granted at Conway, NW., in the name of John Watson. A reward will be paid for his apprehension. Information to be given to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield, who holds a warrant for his apprehension, of whom photographs will be forwarded on application.— Bow- street, September 24. Stolen on the 23rd ultimo, from 19, Park- street, Camberwell: a dun- coloured mare Pony, aged, Hi hands high, white star on forehead; Harness brass- mounted, lion rampant on blinkers; Gig painted black, picked out with white. By a man, 24 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, and dressed in black melton coat, mixture trousers and vest.— Metropolitan Police, P Division, September 22. Stolen on the 6th instant, from Brooms Cottage, in the township of Iveston, the property of Mrs. Compton : a small- sized red Cow, marked with white on each lisk, face, and tip of the tail, and has a piece of hair scrubbed one hip and the LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Stolen from a dwelling- house at Ogden, in Butteruorth, on the night of the 21st instant: £ 22 17s. and a cotton Bag, the property of William HulL By THOMAS SMITH, a navvy, native of Hatfield, Essex, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, rather dark looking, dark hair, cut short, very slight whiskers, small feet, and has been a soldier ; dressed in old blue pilot cloth jacket, light mixture cloth vest, with- out collar, moleskin trousers, lace- up boots, fancy stitched at sides, and black billycock hat. Information to be given to Superintendent Brindle, County Police Office, Rochdale, Lancashire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 26. Stolen on the morning of the 19th instant, from the dwelling- house of Ann Beck, 8, St. Mary's- place, Stafford : a dark grey waterproof Cloak ; a Chemise edged with needle- work ; a gold Ring with white stones ; a pair of Ear- rings ; and a round common Brooch with red beads round it By a woman who had lodged iu the house for about three weeks, and who absconded : she is about 21 years of age, 5 feet high, stout build, dark hair, dark eyes, fresh complexion, round full face, good- looking, and of good address ; dressed in dark dress, black jacket, white hat trimmed with blue and black ribbon, and of respectable appearance ; she also ob- tained various sums of money from different persons under the representation that she would shortly come irto posses- sion of a large fortune from h » r aunt, who she said resrdes at Hawthorn House, Stamford- bridge, Worcestershire. Previous to her coming to Stafford she lodged at No. 28, Blindsill, Farnworth, Lancashire ; she is supposed to be known at Durham, as she lodged tbere previous to visiting Farnworth. Information to be given to Inspector Bowen, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, September 26. Description of JOSEPH SMITH, alias BLOXSAM, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 3 lis., the money of James Hinks, Great Hampton- street, Birmingham, his master : from 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark complexion, dark full beard, whiskers, and moustache, dark hair, slight build, and walks very erect; dressed when he left on the 17th instant, in a pepper- and- salt coloured jacket, dark tweed trousers and vest, and black billycock hat. He is the son of a superannuated police officer in the neighbourhood of London. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Moor- street, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bcno- sireet, September 24. Description of SIMEON DIX, of Trent Vale, near Stoke, who is charged, in connection with three others now in custody, with stealing fourTurkeys from Shut Lane Head, near Newcastle, Staffordshrre, the property of Walter Shanbotham: He is 19 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, pale complexion, dark brown hair, long features, rather long neck, and throws bis head back when walking ; dressed in light cord trousers, blue cloth monkey jacket, black cloth vest, black billycock hat, and lace- up boots ; is an ovenman at brick works, and it is likely he may be working at some of the brickyards at or near Cannock. Information to be given to Sergeant Tubman, Madeley, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, September 24. Stolen during the night of the 20th instant, from Cross Butts Farm, near Whitby, the property of Mr. Jas. Benson : a drab jean Jacket, two pockets outside, without flaps, and not lined ; a pair of blucher Boots, about half worn ; a pair- red and mauve striped Muffatees ; and a strong bone- hafted Pocket- Knife. By a farm servant who had been employed about a fortnight, and who absconded, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, full face, light brown hair, small light brown whiskers on sides of face, and stout built; dressed iu light jean jacket, with black velvet collar, dark vest, black and yellow striped moleskin trousers, fitting tight to the legs, black billycock hat, and may be wearing a blue flannel shirt. Stated that his father was a farmer, and resided about 6 miles from Scarborough, but is supposed to be a native of Cambridgeshire. Information to be given to Superintendent Ryder, North Riding Constabu- lary, Whitby.— Bcnc- street, September 24. Stolen on the 14th instant, in the parish of Stanton Lacy : 16 Fowls, mixed breeds. By a man who gave the name of JOHN WARD, supposed fictitious, 21 yeare of age. 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, parted in the middle, low and wrinkled forehead, a native of Broms- grove, aud is a nailor by trade ; dressed in dark jacket, mole- skin trousers, jimcrow hat ; has worked at Hereford, aud is supposed to belong to the Hereford Militia. Information to be given to Superintendent Baxter, Church Strettou, or to Sergeant Lear, Bromfield, Salop, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 22. Description of a mart charged with theft of Jewellery, & c., committed at Doune, Perthshire, on the 13th instant, and for whose apprehension a sheriff's warrant has been granted : BERNARD M'GUIRE, alias JAMES MARTIN, alias 2 P U Li C fc OAZiiJi n. DAVID MARTIN or WILKIE, alias JAMES ROBERT- SON, &. travelling watchmaker or jeweller, a native of Ireland, { rat speaks with « Scotch accent, about 36 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 » ches high, dark hair and whiskers meeting under chin, dark moustache, a little bald on forehead, stout make, light hazel eyes, Roman nose, round face, pale com- plexion," mark of cut or burn on top of head, is slightly bow- legged, aud stoops a little when walking ; dressed in black cloth shooting coat, double- breasted black corded rest, black and grey striped tweed trousers ( stripes about half- an- inch wide), light boots, and black felt hat - clothes all good ; is known to the police in several counties in Scotland, and has been convicted of theft in Cupar- Fife, Inverness, and Alloa, and of perjury iu the Sheriff Court at Stonehaven. He takes lod# i » g » iu ft village, anil intends to clean and repair watched, jewellery, and when he obtains a few watches or some Jewellery for that purpose, he absconds and disposes of the articles. Description of WILLIAM BRIDLE, late clerk to W. Partridge, Esq., solicitor, of Tiverton, for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued, charged with embezzling several sums of Money in July last, belonging to his master : about 30 years of age, 5 feet 7£ inches high, very fair com- plexion, very light sandy hair and whiskers, and shaves under the chin ; generally dressed in a blue cloth jacket, with pockets outside, or a black frock coat, vest of same material, fancy trousers, black bowler or silk hat, and elastic- side boots. May probably try to go abroad. Information to be given to Chief Constable Crabb, Tiverton, Devon, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Sept. 19. Stolen at Alsager, on the 16th instant, from a clothes line, whilst in a wet state : a woman's print Dress, white ground with small violet sprig ; and a child's print Frock, blue and white stripe. By a man, about 25 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout built, and no whiskers ; dressed iu white slop, light trousers, brown and grey stripe, light paramatta hat, and fancy duck- beak clogs. Information to be given to Superintendent Rowbottom, Middlewich, or to Sergeant Dale, Hall Green, Lawton, Cheshire. — Bmo- street, September 19. Description of GEORGE BEDFORD, charged with stealing ou the morning pf the 12th instant, from the ' Queen Adelaide' public- house, where he was lodging, a red morocco Purse, containing 12s. in Silver, and about Vs. in Coppers: 25 years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, light hair and whiskers, has a little sandy hair on chin, and nose a little on one side ; dressed in a black soft felt hat, black short coat and vest, aud dark striped trousers. He is a woman's shoemaker by trade, and carries his tools in a canvas bag, made in the shape of a carpet bag. He is well known at Windsor and Slough, having worked there, aud he has a mother residing in the Hackney- road. Information to be given to Head Constable Pike, Police Station, St. Alban's, Herts, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 19. Description of EDWARD STAINTON, alias DICK STAINTON, who is charged with embezzling the sum of £ Z 2s. 5d., the money of the Imperial Tube Company, Bir- mingham, his masters : 23 years of age, about 5 feet 6 inches high, dark hair, red face, slight whiskers, well built, walks slowly, and of dissipated appearance ; when last seen was dressed in a suit of grey tweed, and black felt hat. Infor- mation to be given to Chief Superintendent Glossop, Police Office, Muor- street, Birmingham, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, September 19. Absconded from Crewe on the 15th instant, charged with stealing au old black cloth single- breasted frock Coat, had a red and white cotton Handkerchief in one of the pockets ; aud a Waistcoat and a pair of Trousers, since recovered : MOSES PARKES, labourer, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, slender build, long features, browu hair, large grey eyes, dark moustache, small tuft of hair on the end of chin ; dressed in the stolen coat, with a grey one under, old light cloth waistcoat, very dirty moleskin trousers, cloth cap with Urge top, and old Wellington boots. Information to be given to Superintendent Laxton, Nantwich, or to Inspector Morris, Police Office Crewe.— Bow- street, September 19. Description of CLARA TUTTON, charged with breaking open a small box, and stealing therein: a Sovereign; a Half Sovereign ; three Shillings ; and one Half Crown, the monies of John Harris, of Milverton, in the county of Somerset, on the 16th instant: she is about 19 years of age, 5 feet high, fair complexion, dark hair, with a large plait of false hair on the back of her head ; dressed in a light stuff dress, dark grey waterproof cloak, high black straw hat, with a small red rose in front; has worked 2 years in a lace factory at Newton Poppler, in Devonshire. Information to be giveu to Superintendent Ross, County Constabulary, Wiveliscombe, Somerset, or to Sergeant Talbott, Milverton, whe holds a warraut for her apprehension.— Bow- street, September 19. dealers, Birmingham : he is about 70 years of age, 5 feet Missing from his home at Pilley, near Barnsley, in the 7 inches high, full face, white hair and whiskers, and has a West Riding of Yorkshire, sioee the 89th August, 1873, and very large mouth ; dressed in black coat aud waistcoat, low has not since been heard of : THOMAS SMITH FARMER, shoes, and wore a curb pattern albert chain. Description of a man charged with obtaining by false pretences, from Anna Cranage, cf Regent- street, Wellington, on the evening of the 17th instant, I) 5 lis. : he is from 25 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet C to 8 inches high, light browu hair, long light moustache, supposed false, grey eyes, sallow complexion, no whiskers, proportionate make; dressed in black cloth jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, supposed a black stripe down the sides, black silk fur brown kid gloves, rather good looking, and of genteel appearance, In- forcsaation to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Richardson, Wellington, Salop,— Bow- street, September 2& complexion, grey hair, little or no whiskers, third aud fourth fingers right hand crooked ; dressed in grey suit, tall hat, lace- up boots, common grey stockings, white linen shirt, and brown neckerchief with white spots. Description of two men committed for trial, charged with larceny, at Wisbeach : RICHARD STURGESS, alias GEORGE RICHARD STURGESS, alias RICHARD KELLY, of Long Sutton, dark brown cap, turned up all round, and old lace- up boots; ' B. C.' on right side, bracelet and heart on the wrist; states that he has beeu iu the army.
