Notice.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolen property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or sending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to MB. O. • g8 Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably necessary that on Information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the Advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertioa. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article . vn the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. It is requested that the Names and Descriptions of Deserters and Absentees from the Militia, as well as those from the regular Army, intended for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, may be addressed to " The Under Secretary of State for War, War Office, Fall Mall, London, S. W.," as they cannot be published without his authority. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Found in the river Hyndburn, at Accrington, about 7 p. m. on the 16th instant : the dead body of a newly- born full- grown male Child, wrapped in a piece of old calico, and enclosed in a small fig box, commonly used by grocers, no marks of any distinction upon it; the body appears to have been in the water five or six weeks. An inquest was held on the body, and a verdict of ' Wilful Murder' returned against some person or persons unknown. Information to be given at the Police Office, Burnley, Lancashire.— Bow- street, Jidy 21. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from the person at Perry Barr : a gentleman's gold open- faced enamelled Watch, with centre seconds, and a morbcco leather maroon- coloured pocket Book. Information to be given to Sergeant Hackney, Staffordshire Constabulary, Handsworth, near Birmingham. — Bow- street, August 1. Stolen from a lady on the 24th instant, a lady's gold English lever Watch, engraved cases, No. 22397, and a long gold Guard attached. Information to be given at the Police Station, Lowestoft, Suffolk.— Bow- st., July 30. Stolen from the person on the Worcester Race Course, on the 17th instant : a gold hunting lever Watch, capped, and engine- turned case, No. 6605, maker Wm. Radford, Leeds. £ 5 reward will be paid on its restoration, and such information as shall lead to the conviction of the offender or of offenders. Information to be given to the Head Constable, Worcester.— Bow- street, July 28. Stolen, in the borough of Ipswich, on the 18th instant, from the person of Robert Boon, whilst on the race course, a silver lever Watch ; has a metal chain, a gold key, and two common keys attached ; maker, ' D. and A. Reade, Ipswich, No. 17,665,' value £ 5. Information to be given to Head Constable Mason, Police Office, Town^ Hall, Ipswich.— Bow- street, July 28. Description of JAMES BUTT, charged with assault and robbery at Claverton Down on the 8th ultimo : about 19 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, ard grey eyes, when talking he closes the right one ; he belongs to the 2nd Somerset Militia and also to the Militia Reserve ; he is a native of Frome, Somerset, and supposed to be working in South Wales. Information to be given to Superintendent Morgan, County Police Station, Bath, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 23. Stolen from the person of a gentleman at Handborough Railway Station, on the 15th instant: a large old- fashioned open- face gold Watch, seconds hand, dull face, and bright figures, makers Younge and Son, London, No. 8216. £ 10 reward will be paid on the apprehension and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information to be given to Inspector Hawtin, Police Station, Thame, Oxon.— Bow- street, July 23. BURGLARY AND HOUSE BREAKING. Between 7.30 a. m. and 8.30 p. m., the 19th instant, the dwelling- house of William Whitehurst, of Western- Wood, in the parish of Norbury, was broken into and stolen therein : one pair of black cloth Trousers, nearly new ; one dark brown cloth Vest; one black cloth Jacket, much worn, narrow sleeves, very old fashion make, pockets and flaps outside on the skirts, and one pocket inside left breast; one pair of old lace- up Boots ; and half- a- pound of Butter. Three tramps of the following description are suspected ; one went towards Stafford, carrying a large bundle, is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, broad face, dark complexion, no whiskers, stout make, mark of a burn on left side of neck, wore a dark blue cap with straight peak, a blue striped woollen shirt, and no coat. Another about 22 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, supposed blind of left eye, stout make, and wore a white beaver hat. And the third one is about 17 or 18 years of age, dark complexion, hair cut short, stcut make, wore a cloth cap, light tweed trousers, with stripe down side. Information to be given to Sergeant Blakeley, Eccleshall, or to Superintendent Crisp, Stone, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, July 28. The cottage of Edward Mitchell, at Minster Lovell, was broken and entered between the hours of 8 a. m. and 12 noon on the 25th instant, and the following articles stolen : four calico Shirts, neaily new, with one pleat down the fronts; one black cloth Jacket and Vest; one pair grey Trousers ( tweed) ; one pair of cord Trousers, had a patch of tar on the seat, and been washed once : half- a- pound of Tea, two pieces of Bacon ; and a silk Pocket Handkerchief, gaudy colours. Supposed to have been done by a tramp. Information to be given to Superintendent Cope, Police Station, Witney, Oxon. j — Bow- street, July 28. During the night of the 18th instant, a lock- up shop, in the occupation of Francis Hancock, of Hathasage, was entered and stolen therefrom : a quantity of Leather; one pair of men's light Boots ; a pair of Tops for watertight boots ; one pair of Boots for a boy ( partly made with last left in); and a quantity of Leather, of various kinds. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Williams, Constabulary Office, Bakewell, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, July 25. The cottage of James Thomas, of the parish of Grendon- Bishop, labourer, was broken and entered by forcing the lock, between 8 a. m. and 7 p. m. cn the 23rd instant, and an old- fashioned silver Watch stolen therein, maker Johnson, Grays' i Inn, No. 1424. A travelling sweep and his wife was seen in the neighbourhood of the cottage, the former rather tall, the latter short. Information to be given to Superintendent Harwood, Bromyard, Herefordshire.— Bow- street, July 25. 15 hands 3 inches high, chipped knees, cut over right eye, white saddle marks, long tail, and in good condition. Infor- mation to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, EPPin?> or Inspector Robinson, Police Station, Ongar.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen from a field in the parish of Desford, Leicester- shire, between 1 and 6 p. m. on the 1st instant : a brown mare Pony, aged, about 12 hands high, has had both knees broken, white rose on forehead, a piece cut out of both ears, one deeper than the other, short switch tail, and' in middling condition, the property of Mr. C. Drackley. Information to be given to Superintendent Moore, Constabulary Station, Hinckley, Leicestershire.— Bow- street, July 28. Further description of a Pony stolen from a field in Binsey- lane, near Oxford, on the night of the 19th, or morn- ing of the 20th ultimo : a handsome well bred dark iron grey, or dark mottled mare Pony, 3 years old, about 14. hands high, black legs, long tail, scars inside hind legB, recently broken to ride and drive, the name ' W. H. Wood' was stamped on the shoes. Also a spring Cart, ' Charles Eaton, Oxford,' painted on back ; and a set of plated Harness, with oart collar. A reward of ,£ 10 will be given on recovery of the pony, and conviction of the offender or offenders. Information " to be given to Superintendent Head, Police Office, Oxford.— Bow- sreet, July 28. Found at Northfield, on the 3rd instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a half- bred bay Mare, aged, and in good condition, about 14 hands high, hind fetlocks white, star on forehead, and is slightly broken winded. Information to be given to Superintendent Humphries, King's Heath, near Birmingham, Warwickshire.— Bow- street, July 25. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING. | Stolen on the 25th ultimo, from a field iu the parish of Newport, the property of Mr. James Warren, innkeeper : an aged bright bay Horse, 15 hands 2 iuches high, black mane and tail, white star on forehead, and the hind legs white about half way from the fetlocks to the hocks. Information to be given at the Police Station, Newport, Essex.— Bow- street, August 1. Stolen from a field at Rhigos, near Hirwain, in the county of Glamorgan, some time during the night of the 23rd ultimo : a dark bay Horse, 3 years old, about 15 hands high, with black mane and tail, and black legs, value £ 28, the property of David Morgans. Information to be given to Superintendent Thomas, Constabulary Office, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan.— Bow- street, Auqust 1. Stolen from Coneyhnrst Common, West Chiltington,' between 10 p. m. on the 19th aTid 6 a. m. ou the 20th instant, a light coloured mare Donkey, 6 years old, smooth coat, plain black mark across the shoulders, and in good condition. In- formation to be given to Superintendent Kemmish, West Sussex Constabulary, Petworth.— Bow- street, July 30. Found at Chelmarsh, near Bridgnorth, about the 23rd instant, and supposed to have been stolen : a dark brown t half- bred Mare, aged, about 15 hands high, few white saddle marks, also many grey hairs in front of the head, a small lump just behind where the girths go, rather short tail, in good condition, and a capped hock. Information to be given to Superintendent Ivins, Bridgnorth, or to Police Constable Chase, Chelmarsh, Bridgnorth, Shropshire.— Bow- st., July 30. Stolen on the 22nd instant: a grey Mare, 15 hands 3 ins. high, cut on nose, mark on near shoulder, cut on off fore fetlock, and cropper mark; and a riding Saddle and Bridle. By a man, 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark com- plexiou, hair, whiskers, aud moustache ; dressed in a dark mixture suit, and felt hat,— Metropolitan Police, T Division, July 30. Stolen on the 25th or 26th instant, from White Horse- lane, East Ham, a bay Mare, rising 5 years old, 14 hands high, legs inclined to black, nearly thorough- bred, scar ou side of rump near tail, and branded • H. C.' on hips.— Metro- politan Police, K Division, July 30. Found on the 14th instant, at Boninghall, near Albrighton, in the county of Salop, by Mr. Underhill, farmer, of Boninghall : a briuded aud spotted Heifer, about 2 years old, supposed stolen. Information to be giveu to Chief Superintendent Richardson, Wellington, or to Sergeant Barritt, Shiffual, Salop.— Bow- street, July 30. Stolen on the 19th instant, from Bexley Heath, a black Pony, 12 hands high, hog mane, slightly chipped on knees, and in good condition ; also a basket Chaise, wheels painted red : by a man, 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion and whiskers ; dressed in black frock coat, black silk vest, litrUt trousers, high black hat ; walks lame.— Metro- politan Police, R Division, July 30. Stolen during the night of the 26th instant, from a field in the parish of Stapleford Abbots, the property of Joseph Bray, Esq., of Prigo Park : a daik brown Horse, aged, LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT. Absconded, charged on a warrant with stealing one hundred £ 5 Bank of England Notes, Nos. from 96251 to 96350, dated April 3rd, 1873 : JOHN MANBY NEWMAN, 22 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches high, slight make, grey eyes, fair complexion, brown hair, and blotches on face. He is in company with his brother, 20 years of age. £ 10 reward will be paid for his apprehension. Information to be given to Inspector Bailey, City of London Police, 26, Old Jevrry, London, E. C.— Bow- street, August 1. JANE FIELDER, and FLORENCE GODLEY, are charged on warrants with stealing the following property, belonging to their mistress, Catherine Hayllar, of Oriental place, Brighton, on the 28th ultimo : two silk Dresses ; an alpaca Dress ; a light blue Sash, trimmed with white lace ; a white straw Hat, trimmed with black velvet, bird, and flowers ; a white straw Hat, with black feather, bound with, black ribbon ; a blue velvet Bonnet, with pink rose ; a Chemise ; a pair of Drawers ; and a Sovereign. Fielder is 18 years of age, tall and thin, fair complexion. Godley is 17 years of age, shorter than the other, fair complexion. They are supposed to be wearing the stolen property, and to- have gone to London, have been domestic servants, and will probably be in the company of soldiers. Information to be given to Chief Constable White, Brighton. — Bow- street, August 1. Absconded on the 26th ultimo, from Oxford- street, charged with stealing forty Scarf Pins, viz., eight Labrador ( carved monkey and satyr heads), eighteen crystal scarf ( mounted in gold), dogs' heads, racehorses, and military badges, six gold sporting, horseshoes, stirrups, and racket bats, one cameo, four garnet, shells, or agate ( set with small pearl in centre), two gold ( one boar's head, one greyhound); two crystal Brooches, engraved aud painted, one with terrier dog and rat, after Landseer, the other greyhounds coursing : a man, 30 yrs. of age, 5 ft. 6 ins. high, pale complexion, hollow cheeks, dark sandy hair, thick moustache aud whiskers, shaved under chin, and is a German Pole ; dressed respectably, and speaks with a German accent. Is accompanied by his wife and child ; wife 2S years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, pale complexion, thin, sirall features ; child, a boy, 4 months old.— Metropolitan Police, C Division, August 1. Absconded on the 28th ultimo, from Endell- street, charged with stealing £ 37 iu Gold and Silver and a £ 10 Bank of England Note : a youth, 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, dark complexion aud hair, slight moustache ; dressed in black cloth coat, pockets on hips, dark mixture trousers, soft billycock hat, blue necktie, and sidespring boots - y friends reside at Camberwell.— Metropolitan Police, E Division, August 1. Description of WILLIAM DONKLEY, charged at Newcastle- oia- Tyne on a warrant with purloining six dozen boot Tops : he is about 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark brown hair, dark eyes, dark thin whiskers round the face, slight dark moustache, swarthy complexion, several scars on neck, result of runnings ; he is a fitter and machinist in the shoe trade, is a good workman, and a native of North- amptonshire ; was accompanied by his wife and child when he absconded on the 2: 3rd ultimo, his father resides at Welliugborough, Nottinghamshire. Absconded on the 22nd instant, charged with embezzling £ 160: JOHN SYDNEY JOHNSON, a traveller, 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, stout, florid complexion, dark brown whiskers, and grey eyes ; dressed in dark cutaway coat, wliite vest, grey trousers, high felt hat, side- spring boats, black silk tie, and turn- down collar, wears a diamond ring, set with torquoise, and visits at 99, Church- street, Chelsea.— Metropolitan Police, Y Division, Jul)/ 30. Absoonded On the 26th instant, from Epping- green, charged with embezzling £ 4, the moneys of his master: a man named BARRETT, 20 years of age, 5 feet high, light hair, small whiskers, and stammers when speaking ; dressed in light cord trousers, sleeved waistcoat, with black fronts and fustian buck, speckled willow hat or black cloth cap, and wears a large white neckerchief. Information to be given to Superintendent Simpson, Police Station, Epping, Essex, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— How- street, Jul'/ 30. Description of WILLIAM READ, alias STANLEY, charged at Brownhills, with stealing a Watch : he is about 32 years of age, 6 feet high, rather dark hair, round features, shaves his chin, very long whiskers. The watch is an English lever, capped and jewelled, enamelled dial, sunk seconds, No. 9538, makers ' Smith, Barton, and Walton.' Information to be given to Superintendent Hill, Brownhills, near Walsall, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his apprehension. — Bow- street, July 30. Absconded from Gloucester on the 23rd instant, charged with stealing £ 59 19s. Sd., the property of his employers, Messrs. Nicks and Co., Timber Merchants, Docks: ARTHUR CHARLES CUMMING, a clerk, about 45 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inches high, sallow complexion, dark brown hair and whiskers, the latter turning grey, clean chin ; generally dressed in a high silk hat, black frock coat, with pockety behind, black vest, and check or light trousers. He is a native of Devonshire, and well known in Bristol, Birmingham and London. £ 50 reward will be paid by Messrs. Nicks and Co. ou the apprehension and conviction of the said Arthur Chiirles Gumming, Information to be given to Deputy Chief Constable Griffin, Gloucester, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, July 28. Description of RICHARD RELF, charged with stealing a glazier's Diamond, the property of Laurence Jordan, at Milton- next- Sittingbourne, on the 21st instant : about 40 years of age, 6 feet high, dark complexion, moustache, and whiskers, aud third and fourth fingers of right hand cut off ; dresssed iu a black roofer hat, short white jacket, and old black cloth trousers ; he has recently been employed painting, and sometimes drives an engine. Information to be given to Chief Superintendent Mayne, Police Court, Sittingbourne, Kent. — Low- street, July 28. Absconded on the 14th instant, charged with embezzling £ 20, And stealing a Clark's patent Clipping Machine and a Singing Apparatus, the money and property of his master : a man, 35 years of age, 5 feet 8i inches high, fair complexion, light brown hair, e) es, aud whiskers; dressed in dark tweed suit, and slouched hat A native of Scotland.— Metropolitan Police, T Division, July 28. Absconded on the 22nd instant, from Baker heath- road, Twickenham, charged with embezzling £ 2 13s., the monies of his Master: a youth, 19 years of age, 5 feet high, fair tomplexioii, freckled, light grey eyes, and light brown hair ; dressed iu grey tweed suit, brown wideawake, and lace boots. — Metropolitan Police, T Division, July 28. JOHN PUTMAN, supposed fictitious, charged on war- rant with stealing from the house of Joseph Frisby, at Eckington, on the 22nd instant, a pair of Boots and a pair of woollen Drawers, the property of J. Hurley, and, at the same time and place, a blue pilot Jacket aud a pair of black cloth Trousers, with Hap front, the property of John Payne. The boots, drawers, and jacket have since been recovered. He is about 37 years of age, 6 feet high,, very black hair and eyes, long thin - allow face, and long nose ; much sunk on temples ; small tuft of hair on chin, rather heavy limbs, and slovenly idle gait; works Si's a navvy, and sometimes as quarryman. Dressed iu old lholeskiu trousers, much worn at the bottom of legs, blue pilot jacket, old double- breasted cord waistcoat, with sleeves, slits ou both sides, and double row of white buttons ; old, strong, lace- up navvy boots, and old black cloth cap, with peak, which he generally wears low down on the back of head. Information to be given to Superintendent. Cruit, Eckington, Derbyshire.— Bow- street, July 28. Absconded from Staffordshire, ou the 14th instant, charged with stealing a quantity of Wearing Apparel, most of which has been found pledged : a woman, supposed to be a fortune- teller, about 50 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, very dark, and of gipsy- like appearance; dressed in a black dress, black hat, with broad brim, trimmed with black ribbon. She waa traced to Wolverhampton, where some of the stolen articles were fouurl pledged. Information to be given to Inspector Boweu, Guildhall, Stafford.— Bow- street, July 25. Absconded on the 19th instant, from Empingham, Rutland, charged oil a warrant with stealing £ 1 10 » . in gold, the property of Edmund Hill, his fellow lodger: . JOHN HART, a native of Doddington, Isle of Ely, masons labourer, 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet high, light complexion and hair, cut short, two large scars on light cheek, and iukneed ; dressed iu old pilot jacket, mended at elbows, grey striped cloth waistcoat, fustian trousers, checked wocllen shirt, old bluclier boots, and black muller hat.
